He gets some awful criticsm of so called soul fans probably because of his commercial success Dave L

  6. Try anglo-american or is it rare soul vinyl now? Or rod at voices from the shadows would have thought they'd have this Dave L
  7. gotta agree with you there ,only showing the Hard Tymes 45 to a mate on Sunday telling him how good it is etc but didn't play him it!it truly is a fantastic piece of deeep soul and from the pen of Roosevelt Matthews the pedigree is there.Garry Cape told me he was driving around somewhere in Illinois when he came across a afro-american ladies hairdressers shop with a big sign on it called ' Lil's purple brush' he said to himself "it can't be" as he knew of the distributors name on the label to this 45,so he goes into the hairdressers and asked if they knew anything about the record turned out the lady owner Lil's brother was in the group and she distributed it from her salon!Garry got what she had left which i think he said about ten copies which he promptly brought to uk ,mine is one of these which i bought of someone who got it originally from Garry, you'd have to prise it from my dying hands!!great playlists from all above open minded collectors ,i'll be come to donnie ....eventually... dave longbottom ps Garry really should write a book!
  8. take zz hill off you mate if you still have it thanks dave L
  9. Isn't the 'j' shaped like a basketball player in a jump position my brother had this record a long time ago and he pointed that out then and was told that a basketball player owned the label cant remember any name though could be wrong but it would make sense looking at the 'j' figure Dave L
  10. buddy ace on teardrop ACE!!! good taste as ever Blake ,only just seen this list! dave L
  11. Aretha "don't let me lose this dream" uk Atlantic for example as well, mine has no signs what so ever of having any spider or solid centre but I've always believed this to be the case that it was uk release with no solid centre and looks like U.S import centre Dave L
  12. Great thread ...one that springs to mind The Whispers "p.o.w m.i.a" on janus...Sir Joe Quaterman and Free Soul "the way they do my life" has a pop at the war and surely The Staple Singers "if you're ready" was a message to get away from the war so to speak Dave L
  13. I took this record onto my younger cousins place who had been banging on about his house music that he was a dj on the house scene locally anyway I told him you don't need music to be uptempo all the time etc at his place he had his dj gear set up and told me most house music was 126bpm so image my surprise when he put Darrell Banks on decks with bpm counter .......it came out at 126bpm great record Dave L
  14. Tis available on Stand By Me album on Chelsea label one of my favourite SOUL records far far better than Temprees version which I like couldn't believe it when it was dropped on us at Bishopthorpe wmc soul night a couple of months ago by a dj with balls (sorry forgot his name) real soul and hem some! Dave L
  15. Geoffs back again had a lot good feedback from his last guest spot playing some fantastic soul from his personal collection which is admired by many totally great unassuming guy as well Dave L
  16. I gave mine away. ..lol... Dave L
  17. Makes me squirm to look at the old soul bowl lists Ian Dave L
  18. I bought Wade Flemons "Jeanette" of pats list around this time for the princely sum of £8! Also Betty Fikes " prove it tome""cant lie to my heart" blue southbound for £10 pat had good bargains on tunes that wasn't getting played domar lists had many as well but terrible to read through and to order of hi Dave L
  19. Totally agree dave an example jesse James "love affair" I was talking to a collector (newish 3 yrs into buying) and mentioned price of this 45 being ridiculously overpriced@£50-60 me having seen a certain dealer around 1990 having stacks of this for a fiver each a price it should still be in reality but new collector says to me "oh that one , , come down in price to £45 now it's cheap! !!" Fuck me with a ragmans trumpet that ain't cheap for a 45 of that availability, and there's many more like them, and many more new collectors that didn't see the real amount of availability, I reckon if you buy records only for the song and etc you won't go wrong but not for investment at the stage of life the average soul fan is at forget it! The point I wanted to make was if you was collecting when records like these were a fiver and that's all you paid for it you've nothing to worry about imo but if you're paying £45-60 now , , you'reon a loser but hey its your money you do what you want with it! Dave L
