Pure speculation but have you listened to Wishing Well?

It lines the cartridge up on a near perfect tangent, the record are cut in a straight line as against radial arm so by putting the stylus on the mark you can square it up, move it backwards and forwards to achieve the setting. NB. it can only be used if you have a headshell it won't work with the Concord type
