Regardless of Dj's and who played what, there are some records that hit you and take you back to a certain place in time. Some records stay in your memory and remain locked in the venue where it made that impact, and never quite gave you that chill when played elsewhere. The 6t's Rhythm & Soul Allnighters at 100 Club did this for me in the '80's, but it wasn't the only venue that accomodated that feel. One of the mainstays for me from then is Brook Brothers-Looking for a Woman, the clunky opening line as it chugs along into the brassy section. Fantastic!!!!
  6. In the 80's at the 100 club, Ady could be seen at the door vetting memberships with folk screaming that theirs hadnt came in post, my names on the door etc. Take that out of the equation and the promoter can concentrate on providing the show. The CCI were vetting memberships and dress code to stop also-rans appearing, this more than likely fueled the in-scene fighting and the "I was a mod before you was a mod" scenarios. At the Annivesary, the younger crowd that had the actual foresight to get advance tickets, well they were on the floor most of the night. Teeth intact and using real shoes. When out having a smoke and chewing the fat, a crowd of four pissheads that asked questions about the event at the door, were courteously persuaded that the event wasn't for them. I would quite comfortably hit an event closer to Scotland with Djs of the same ilk, but doubt that will happen. I love it, warts and all, and am quite sure if the casino was still here (unrenovated), there would be similar issues.
  7. Glad it went well Sooty ;)
  8. Ahll no be buyin it again, that one'll dae.....who's Sean?
  9. Regardless of sexuality, I am thinking more flamboyant and their persona on and off the stage. Were some of these artists carrying their stage presence into real life. Where did they think it would get them if it was only an act, did they think the people wanted these type of acts, did the money men think it would be a money spinner?
  10. LLOYD PRICE BAD CONDITIONS How ironic the name of the record and that my copy is also in the same nick as the one in the video, all water damaged
  11. Sometimes I think about various artists that have been right in the publics face, throwing all they have into their work and creating a persona for all to see. Long before Pete Burns and plastic surgery, artists have been throwing their sexuality, personality and clothing style at us. Listened to Jackie Shane long before I even had an image of the fella(?) and was surprised eventually to see him(?) Little Richard always rocked it up, you just had to pay attention to the guy... Screamin Jay Hawkins, in most cases would be deemed a mental case... This is only three artists, I am sure you can add to it. Were these artists hard to control by their employees? They give away an aroma that they would be difficult to work with on any level. Any more Liberace type individuals?

I have looked at them side by side, the boot is flexible vinyl, bevelled edge and wide run out, these were noted even before I looked at matrix and label. I am sure i can tell just by holding one if its real or not now.

You're right in the context that they couldn't all be played continuously, generally a well placed instrumental in any set is welcome imo.
