Roy Charles Hammond, 1943, New York City, New York, USA. A member of the Genies, with whom he recorded for several labels, Roy C's most enduring moment came with "Shotgun Wedding" (1965). A US R&B Top 20 hit, it proved even more popular in the UK, reaching number 6 the following year, and made the Top 10 again in 1972. The singer later recorded, without success, for Black Hawk and Shout, but "Got To Get Enough (Of Your Sweet Love Stuff)" was a soul hit in 1971. Released on C's own Alaga label, he subsequently secured further success on Mercury. He also wrote "Honey I Still Love You", a 1972 bestseller for the New York City group, Mark IV.
