Station Rd, 1978, 4am and I'm on a full dance floor clapping and dancing to 'You Better Believe it Baby' - Joe Tex. Didn't get any better really. ........ and No, the ending never caught me out, Honest.
-
I'd think you've got more chance of catching the Clap than hearing a clap on todays scene.....
-
Hardly our finest hour, but still hugely preferable to much of the crap todays DJ's try and pass as Northern Soul.
-
Likewise. And love the intro coz' it clears the floor of the pensioners on the pull.
-
As said above a true Originator. Many people consider Jonny be Goode to be the track which started the 'Rock' genre. (as opposed to Rock & Roll). RIP Chuck.
-
Think I'll pack in the Northern Soul and work full time instead.

Article: Northern Soul and Age in 2017 - Carry On Regardless?
Zed1 replied to Mike's topic in Front Page News & Articles
I often wonder what the 17 Year old me would make of todays scene, ie if on my first visit to Station Rd in 1977 I'd have walked through the main doors to be greeted by a dancefloor full of people who were the same age as my Grandparents...... Have to be honest and say I doubt I'd have made the trip the following week. -
Yep. Might also show some of todays Northern Disco DJ's that there was actually more than Frank Wilson and The MVP's ever played at Station Rd....... Quite literally M8.
-
Was having a search of the loft yesterday morning when I heard the postman delivering our Mail. When I came down our dog had disappeared from his usual spot on the rug in the lounge, and in his place was this...... Ok. it doesn't really Take Sherlock Holmes to work out the culprit but just in case there was any doubt, this is what came running in when I shouted him

For all our sophisticated Tackle, Designer baits and even Fish finders, we're still rank amateurs when compared to a Heron. Stunning Photo Ste.
-
Agreed Pete. Can't for the life of me understand why this isn't played out more given it's the perfect sound and tempo for todays scene. Sadly though most DJ's at todays Pensioners Disco's will just murder the usual Ace Spectrum and James Fountain week in - week out.
-
Sorry people but back cueing can't damage records otherwise most of the DJ's would have to replace their entire collections every month.
-
Ste. One of them shits and pisses everywhere and doesn't do a thing I tell them....... I'll let you decide which.

Our little pooch.....

Long after tonight was all over for the Casino, but long before Dancing in Cafe's and Shopping Arcades.....
-
Looking at a few B&W photo's in a Shopping Arcade is not really much of a trip down memory lane given the area is pretty much unrecognisable from back in the day. Maybe call in your local Chemist on the way (after it's closed) then ask a few of the Wigan locals to chase you through the town centre before getting them to crush you up against the Shopping arcade door whilst shouting 'Stop Pushing at the Back' at you. Also for the full effect ask EVERY person you meet on your trip 'What Time is it M8?' and 'Got any Chewy pal?'.... Eat the Cake etc.

1. Many's the slip, twixt the cup and the ...... Starbucks 2. What venomous reptile was duplicitous in Al Wilson's Northern Soul classic? ...... I thought a Duplicitous was a plant eating Dinosaur? 3.Which of the following is correct: "Inky Winky Woggle Toggle Shoo" "Wanky Skanky Make A buck Or two" or "I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself"?.... The 2nd one, It's the Cover for Bob Sinclairs 'Tribute'

A half pissed baby Giraffe in Lead diving boots could learn a basic NS dance in 20 minutes, it's REALLY not that hard. You don't need Dance lessons unless you've got a thing for Stetsons, cowboy boots and line dancing.

Lee David ... Temptation Is Calling ... Blue Eyed ?
Zed1 replied to Sunnysoul's topic in All About the SOUL
As you previously referred to Ste, It was all so much better when we knew fook all!. Remember on my 2nd or 3rd trip to Wigan 'It really hurts me Girl' was playing and the lad stood next to me said "Is this Crossover?". My serious reply was "Not Sure - I thought it was the Carstairs?". -

Another Fab 'Northern' track derided by the chin molesters as White Pop Crap........ Good job some of us like pop music. -
Ignorance is Bliss. Listen with YOUR ears, not someone else's.

First all nighter record that you remember most
Zed1 replied to Sheldonsoul's topic in All About the SOUL
It's interesting Ste that many of those Tracks I used to love back then I've since been told were in fact just White Pop Crap........ If I'd known this back then Eh!. -

Bobby Diamond and Joey Heatherton are two proper 'Northern' Soul records that sadly don't get the turntable time their place on the scene deserves. Back then I didn't have the fookin first idea the colour of the Artists Skin, to me they were just two fantastic dancers. First niter tune I remember (no idea why) was PP Arnold 'Everthings gonna be alright'. -
FFS Read what I posted.... It's got feck all to do with how good. bad, or otherwise you are at dancing, it's also got feck all to do with how young or old you are. It's about having a little respect for the scene and making at least the most rudimentary attempt to dance in what anyone blessed with the gift of sight would recognise as a northern soul style dance. It's REALLY not that hard, HONEST!. Just more examples of the dumbing down of the scene to suit the party pensioner generation and get numbers through doors. " Eh!, look at me Luv - I can dooo this ere norvern Soul dancing"
-
Exactly...... Sorry folks but I don't buy all this 'Just do what you feel' bollacks, It's Northern Soul , not Disco, or funk, or Jazz or Rock & Roll, and if you can't be bothered to even try and perform the most basic 2-step dance that people would associate with Northern Soul then you're just taking the pi55. Sadly the dance floors these days look little different to your Average Wedding disco, ie full of Dad Dancing pensioners, High Heeled Disco Divas or i-Pods (people you assume must be listening to their i-pods as they are clearly not dancing to the same record as everyone else).
