  1. Never been into Scooters!, but always owned Bikes, and the same type arguements still apply Those that have always rode/owned Bikes hate the 'born Agains' for giving the 'scene' a bad name. Those that will only own/ride classic British Bikes hate the modern Jap 'Plastic missiles'. The 'born agains' hate those that dress up like Village people rejects and ride Harley Davidsons. They inturn hate the 'Jap crap' and the riders who dress up like 'Powerangers'........... I also own a modern MG rag top, but owners of 'Classic' MGs say its not a 'Proper' one, it's just a Rover with a MG badge stuck on!. 'Passion' has a lot to answer for!!.
  2. As above to frame up for a prezzie for someone....... An original poster size would be nice, but anything along these lines might help!. TIA.
  3. Charlie Chalkie and the Black Bombers. A.C. Tate and the black boots. The 'Five fingered Shufflers'. Major Lance and the boilers. Dick Puller and hand jivers.
  4. Interesting thought! And if true it would not just be 'Our' music where the effect would be felt!. How many of the great 60s rock bands list the Blues as their influence, bands like Muddy Waters etc are quoted by the Beatles, The Stones, The Who, as reasons for getting into Music!. The Standard 12 bar Blues was the backbone of many of the aboves great hits, and how many groups/artists today list the Beatles, Stones, Who etc as their influence??.. I think the music scene today may look VERY different!
  5. So!.......... 'Hey,Hey,Hey!, Yeah,Yeah,Yeah!, I'm getting my kicks out on the floor'....and 'The Chicks are out of sight' Translates to an "Interesting mid-point between the intergrationist agenda in black politics and the civil rights movement" Well fook me!!!.... for the last 30+ years I just thought the song was about some bloke out on the pull, and having a dance??.
  6. If you mean 'Libby' then he is still on the scene, see him at quite a few of our local Venue's!.
  7. Steve. I think you are somewhat missing my point!..... If you said the phrase 'Drug fueled' to the average 'non-believer' it would conjour up an image of Wigan being full of people just sitting around, with belts round their arms, passing around syringe's full of smack, having paid for this by just mugging a local Granny coming out of the Bingo hall..........a 'Stereotype', and clearly not the case!. What pisses me off is why is it just Wigan that the media always refer to as 'Drug fueled?........ The mods had just as many 'Pill heads', but is never refered to as the 'Drug fueled Mod scene', I have never seen a headline saying the 'Ganga fueled Hippy scene', or the 'Mushroom fueled Heavy Rock scene'.. Or is it perhaps that Northern soul people were the only 'Kids' ever to take drugs??.. Garry. (Also clean..... I've just had a Shower )
  8. So at it's peak when Wigan had around 100,000+ members, you are saying that more than half of these only ever joined, and came from all over the country just to pop a few Duramin, bombers, and green+clears??........ 'Drug Fueled' is just a sweeping media statement that implies everyone who went to Wigan was smashed out of there skulls every night, and when you handed you £1 to Ma Woods to get in, she handed you a few chalkies wraped up in your ticket stub!. Perhaps I went to a different Station Rd in Wigan for some 3+ years, but this is not how I remember it, YES it had it fair share of illegal chemicals to help people avoid a peaceful night's sleep, name me ONE youth culture scene that did not??, but whenever the words Wigan Casino are mentioned in the media, the first sentance after is allways some referance to drugs....... not the Music!, not the scene!, not the people!. allways Drugs.... I think you will find that MOST people went to the Casino for the Music!........... or they did at the Station Rd I went to anyway!.
  9. Superb!..... 77 was my first main year so can relate to those sounds as well! Happy days!.
  10. Bit 'Same old, same old' from the usual suspects, but Keb Darge's contributions are well worth a watch!.
  11. Yaaaaaawn!........ Do you work for the Mirror or the Sun then??.......
  12. I think to a degree you can blame the 'tinternet' and perhaps these type forums for much of crap that said/written......... it's the old a 'little knowledge' etc......... I know a guy who is much like you say, ie been there, seen it, done it, and has a washing line full of T-Shirts!.. Never been 'On-line', does not own a PC, and thinks KR is a good DJ!... he just goes out, enjoys the music and goes home!......... Thats it!!.. And TBH whats wrong with that?.
  13. Typical stereotype media comment though whenever Wigan is mentioned.......... The First words the guy narrating says about Wigan are..... "The drug fueled allnignters of the legendary Wigan Casino".......
  14. Thing is though I doubt "sleeping dogs" will ever get much kip on the scene as there are just to many differing points of view!, it's all very well saying lets all have a big group hug, and live happy ever after, but will this happen in reality?..... I doubt it, sadly!. What makes things worse to a degree IMHO, are all these 'Labels' that people keep pinning to certain genre of the music!... You cant just like 'Soul' any more, you have to be into either......... Northern, or Modern, or Crossover, or R+B, or 'Up-front' R+B (WTF does 'Up-front' mean?), then you can add Funk, rare grooves, 60s,70s,80s,90s, noughties, etc etc, not to mention a venue I seen advertised the other day boasting they played "Nu-Northern" and "Broken Beats" ??..... Now WTF is that all about??.. Pinning a label on someone and sticking them in a pigeon hole marked '.......' (Insert the genre of your choice) just alienates someone who perhaps prefers another style, thus making the 'Them and us' situation worse!. Why cant we just like 'Soul' Music??..
  15. Yep!........ along with 'Strange Change' Herb Ward.
  16. Sadly not many can 'Dance the dance' like Keb nowadays........ trouble is after a few pints there are a lot of dicks who think they can!!
  17. Bought a copy of 'Do Me' Jean Knight on Stax from a guy in a second hand shop some 20+ years ago!............. after listening to it I think he did 'Do Me'
  18. TBH I think I am Gay!. I often get the feeling I am a Lesbian trapped inside a mans body!.
  19. Dont often get chance to listen to the show, but caught up with again tonight for the first time in a few years!. Must say makes a great antidote for the same old, same old ultra safe stuff thats played at many venue's, ok whats good on radio does not allways work on the dancefloor but perhaps if some of the lesser known tracks you play was given the chance, it might be!! Keep up the good work!
  20. Been around the scene for some 30+ years, done all the 'Venue's', both old and new, and seen some some great DJs......... Yet the best spot I have heard since RS as Wigan was at a catholic school in Wigan earlier this year by a 'Girlie' DJ.... she was not afraid to play some of the lesser known stuff, both old and new, and her playlist was by no means 'Safe'....... No names, but some of you might know her as the best dancer in the UK!!
  21. No mention of this on his web-site though! https://soul-source.co.ukindex.php?showtopic=36677
  22. 'Better Believe it Baby'. Joe Tex!................
  23. HMmmmm..... If I could only be sure of that??..
  24. 'Nine times out of Ten' Muriel Day.............. F*****G Scares me everytime I hear it!!!
  25. I seem to remember 'I'm gonna share it with you' ( Diana Foster?) and 'Lost Summer Love' (Lorraine Silver) filling the floor at Wigan..... but CC never had a chance after Murial Day!! Speaking of which I got hit on the Head by a copy of said 'Nine time out of Ten' in M's one night......... The Jock had just played it and said "Thats the First and Last time I play that shit!" and with that slung it out, hitting me on the side of the head!! Not affected me though!.........Honest!!
