Strange realy how our 'freinds' at the other end of the East Lanc's never had any real interest in 'Northern' given nearly all the surrounding towns are real hotbeds of the music.... Perhaps a broader genre coverage may drum up some local interest.
  2. Enjoyed 77 as it was my first full year, but 79 was best music wise mainly due to Dickies playlists........

Just imagine if Hollywood did get hold of this script...... The intro would proberbly go like (accompanied by the instro of Frank wilson)..... "In 1973 a crack Northern Soul DJ unit was sent to prison by a Southern court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to Wigan underground. Today, still wanted by the Soul Police, they survive as Northern soul promoters. If you have a problem - if no one else can help - and if you can find it - maybe you can go to..... the Wigan Shopping Mall....."

  8. MC5 - 'Kick Out The Jams' Iggy Pop & the Stooges - The Passenger
  9. I wonder if it says "Clap now" when the lyrics are going across the screen?.....
  10. The great smell of Brut replaced by that familier smell of urine.... at least it'll remind of the Station Rd Bogs
  11. Ditto..... Nearly every week for 3+ years - throw in a fair few of the oldies nighters and it'd be well over 150.
  12. An excellent analogy, which if you take to it's logical conclusion would mean we'd all hate the Supremes now because they'd have committed the hanus crime of being a success on the NS scene, ergo - the exception which proves our own rule..... That uniquely British trait of Championing the underdog may apply to the NS scene, but that other trait we seem so good at then comes into play, ie 'We build 'em up to knock 'em down'. Edit.. Random observations... Analogy - Analogy Hanus - Hanus
  13. Heard 'The Present' played out a few months ago - REALY enjoyed hearing it again. Always quite liked 'The Night' from my 'yoofy' days - and still a much better track than FW in IMHO....... seem to recall reading (or hearing) that FV always hated this track and never wanted it released.
  14. Soul Step - The Dogs Sittin' in a Corner - Barbara English The Swim - Bobby Freeman Who you Gonna' turn to - Bunny Sigler Centre City - Fat Larrys Band The list goes on........

  17. Sorry Mr Vickers, I've re-read all the other posts and now understand that to 'Contribute anything positive' to your thread I need to slag off a load of 50 year olds and their fashion, sadly however I wont be throwing any of your Buns at peoples baggies so I'll 'go & spoil someone eles thread' as you interestingly put it!.
  18. 'Northern Soul' means whatever you wan't it to mean...... To some, it's that elusive and never ending search for a rare track or piece of Vinyl - to others it's an enjoyable night out once a month with a few freinds...... and no more!. I've never seen any pre-set rules about joining this 'Northern Soul' scene, so who are we to decide what peoples level of involvement should be, or how They choose to enjoy Their Soul music.

This (or a similar) type thread was posted a few years ago and the general concensus was as most have posted on this thread, ie it's pretty comical....... which I agreed with, however..... If people want to waste their cash on NS dance lessons then thats their choice, you can now get lessons in just about every other type and style of dance - so why not northern?......the scene has long since stopped being 'Underground' (the internet and a disposable income put a stop to that) so taking money off people for dance lessons is little different than all the other ways 'todays' scene has found to relieve people of their 'hard earned'...... ........ and lets be honest, I'm sure we all know somebody who could benefit from a few lessons....

Cheers Fella Explains the odd numbering system!.
  21. Older relation went to the above and was given a complementary 4-Record pack which he gave to me a few years later and has been in my box ever since..... Are these boots or a 'pressed up for the event' type thing like a modern free CD?....... First 3 tracks are plain white labels with consecutive numbers (well nearly?) Jerry Cook - Hurt on the other side 031 The Shalimars - Stop and take a look at yourself 032 The Triumphs - Workin'/Memories 034 (what was 033?) Last one is Nolan Chance - Just like the weather on a Green/Aqua 'Out of the past' label.... Any info? TIA

TBH, whenever the 'W' word is mentioned on this forum it just seems to solicite the usual stereotype comments of 'Baggies, Frank Wilson and Hawai 5-0', many on here just see the 'W' word as a point scoring exercise to try in some way to show they're 'superior' and have 'Moved on'....... There are countless 'local' type venus on every fri/sat nite that are never advertised on this forum, many attended by people who used to be regulars of these big 70's venues and may still have lots of pic's etc from those days, because however most of these people arn't DJ's or collectors of Rare Vinyl, they'll have little or no interst in this forum... Perhaps some kind of flyer at these venues directing people to this forum/a website could bring up some otherwise unseen/unknown stuff.
  23. ....... but it was returned in 79..
