Ever Given Up Soul?
Other than the odd nite I've pretty much given up - seems these days unless you own a Handbag or an Anorak the scene has little to offer.

Pontins Southport Wkender 19/21 Oct 2012
Pontins were forced to close the camp when several huts on Stalag luft 7 nearly collapsed due to 3 tunnels dug underneath by Soulies trying to escape in 2011. The tunnels (nicknamed Tom, Frank and Wilson) were discovered by Gruppenfuhrer A Bluecoat on a routine chalet inspection after they noticed several pairs of spencers Trousers and White vest tops had gone missing from camp washing lines.

Pete Waterman Northern Soul
Linky please?..... This IMHO is some of the problem of Todays scene, too many good tracks which are deemed too rare for the 'same old' local soul nights but not rare enough for the upfront nights meaning they're unlikely to see a set of decks.

Wigan Casino 4Th Anniversary (Last 30 Mins) Podcast
Got one of these tapes somewhere in the loft from circa 78 which you've inspired me to try and dig out - I do remember it's got similar fantastic clapping to 'You'd Better Believe it Baby' Joe Tex (another sadly VERY underplayed track).

Wigan Casino 4Th Anniversary (Last 30 Mins) Podcast
Thanks for posting this, Pete..... Clapping on the last 3-4 is fantastic and really takes me back, sadly though it seems these were the 'crap years' according to the clever types on here. Thankfully, I'm not very clever so prefer the sound of the clapping to the sound of hands being rubbed across chins.

Chris Evans, Bbc Radio 2 Played Dean Parrish This Morning
Wow!!, Soul music on the radio - whatever will they think of next, Eh?. Remember Dave Lee Travis used 'A Touch of Velvet' as some sort of backing track on his Radio 1 show and there was talk at the time that a 'crew' from Wigan were going to go down to London and Kidnap the DJ, then demand that if he didn't stop playing said Mood Mosiac track they'd shave of his Hairy Cornflake.

Records You Are Embarrassed To Own Up To Liking
And another one - massive at Wigan circa 77 then slagged as 'pop music'...... shame really as I like it and would love to hear it played out again.

Dance Police At Wigan ?
No dance police at Wigan - you danced where you wanted..... Was at the Stoke nighter a few weeks ago and the only saving grace of the evening was watching some of the youngsters there who were fantastic dancers and had clearly been doing their 'homework', sadly the same couldn't be said for many of the rest who despite being into the music for 30+ years (they claim) failed to construct even the most rudimentary of 2-step northern soul dances - we came to the conclusion that some must have been listening to their i-pods as they were clearly not dancing to the same track as everyone else.

Your First Northern Record You Bought,do You Still Have It
The usual 'Footsee' for me. Interesting the stick this track gets yet it's probably responsible for introducing more people to the music than any other..... Anyone know if the missing TOTP footage was ever found?.

Records You Are Embarrassed To Own Up To Liking
Nowt' wrong with Tim and his Tampons - wish I still had my old copy..... Lots of 'Dance' tracks from those days are now considered naff by the chin molesters, for Eg the 7 Dwarfs and The Night Watch are often slagged off as white pop music but are IMHO infinitely superior to Benny Troy or Ace fookin Spectrum which get murdered on a weekly basis on the scene.

Fantastic track and the first 'northern' record I heard on the radio - think DLT used it as a backing track on a radio prog....

New Documentary - Making Of Once Upon A Time In Wigan
Fantastic,,,, Was lucky enough to see the play first time round (Queens Hall, Widnes) and like may others it echoed our time and experiance at Station Rd like nothing thats been done about the scene since - it also shows that there was a little more to Wigan than just Frank Wilson and baggy fookin pants. (like some would have you believe!) Interestingly the only piece of memorabilia I own about the scene is a Poster from the Lowry advertising this very play.

50 Key Landmark Moments In Northern Soul History
The day this was shown on TV..... The reason (if you need one after watching it) it just confirms what many have known for years, ie that the whole scene is now just an embarressing joke.
