  1. The recent thread entitled "Underated Records" got 189 replies. This 'Overated Records' thread is up to 417 replies...... and counting Makes you wonder how we ever had a scene in the first place! ..
  2. New Sainsburys Advert..... https://www.tvadmusic...nd-brand-match/
  3. Only to be expected given many venues are now little more than a teen disco for 50-somethings..
  4. .... and I'd agree with you Len, but lets be honest it's not going to happen, and even if it did who's going to decide and on what criteria?, would it be down to attendance? or Music policy? or just the size of the barmaids tits?.... IMHO we need to bring everything and everybody 'back' under one roof and one banner meaning EVERYONE attending a 'Soul Nite' would always be exposed to at least some new/different music AND in doing so the promoter/DJ wouldn't have to worry about half his attendance running off to the other 15 venues around the corner because they're playing Ruby Andrews on the hour EVERY hour........ but I doubt any of thats going to happen either!.
  5. So any venue with low attendance should close - combine this with the other reply above saying only Niters matter then we may as well just have a Stoke allnighter every week.... Oh fooking Joy!!!..
  6. Seem to recall this being massive at Wigan yet hasn't been picked up by the 'same old' scene....... thankfully.
  7. I'd have thought a trip to a typical local soul nite with the usual piss heads and people in fancy dress would be much more likely to 'put you off Northern Soul for life' than this film..... or indeed ANY film for that matter Also, there were more records played in 'Soulboy' than the average soul nite too...
  8. When I signed up for the scene back in the day everything was under one roof and one banner 'Northern Soul' and at most venues you got a bit of everything, ie stuff you knew (Classics/Current) stuff you sort of knew (underplayed) and stuff you didn't know (rare/new). Despite this format being some what out of favour these days I always thought it was pretty good so a night of this please.
  9. Lots I'd imagine..... I would think there are (as we speak) several classic car forums debating wether the cars in this prog were the correct colour, trim level or model for that year....... Believe me, Soul source has NO monopoly on anoraks.
  10. I'd have thought watching Mr Grohl & Co would have been a far more profitable way to spend your sunday evening.
  11. On the left hand side of the toolbar you see when you're replying is an 'S' with a line through as in S which means 'Strike through', you use this if you want to strike through some text BUT leave it on show, as in 'This thread is Shite great', you must have clicked on this accidentlly. HTH
  12. Proper Nighter music from back in the day.....
  13. Phil.... It's really such a shame that more venues cant follow the 'Grumpy' format - not everyone on the scene want's a night of 'just' same old OR 'just' rare, so a night of a bit you know, a bit you sort of know, and a bit you don't know for me strikes the perfect balance....... after all, isn't this how it used to be?. Looking forward to December.
  14. 9.63 seconds by Usian Bolt....
  15. Speaking of 'ZZ' (or another one) always thought this would have been a staple on the scene today but seems to hardly get a mention..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvuUrVTkhrc
  16. I wonder if lots of people in comedy trousers will turn up and complain their room isn't exactly the same as it was when they last stayed there in 1974.
  17. I must be a dinosaur as well then, Barney...... I prefered the days when there wasn't a venue on every street corner The days before everybody was a DJ The days when a venue had one room where ALL the genres were played The days when people went out in the fashion of the day - not the fashion of yesterday The days when you bought a record 'coz you actually liked it The days when people made the effort to travel countless miles to listen to the music - not just a short taxi ride so they can get pi55ed and dance like their Dads The days when a DJ knew (and was chosen) because he could 'construct' a spot and 'read' a room - not because he has a big wallet and a computer The days when the Music was THE most important thing - not the format it's played on The days when people looked forward to new music - not backward to what they'd heard a million times before.......... Doesn't seem like 65 million years ago does it?.........
  18. Clearly not looking at some of the pic's in the Gallery.....
  19. Given the amount of people wandering around these events in period fancy dress thinking it's still the 3-day week then I'd say a few stalls selling knickers with "Indeed I Do" on the front is nothing to worry about....

  21. It's interesting that back in the day when the scene was nothing like as fragmented as it is now most DJ's were trusted enough to know what the punters wanted (even if the punters themselves didn't know), you tended to get played 'all in the one room' a bit of what you knew (classics) a bit of what you sort of knew (underplayed) and a bit of what you didn't know (rare/new/different). The above IMHO worked well because there was always something for everyone no matter at what stage they joined the scene, also it meant everyone was always exposed to something new ( like it or not). Sadly however galloping across the horizon came loads of middle aged wannabe DJ.s armed to the teeth with a laptop and a disposable income, trouble was the expected bookings didn't come rolling in for them to play out their newly gotten' ebay finds so they all started their own venues, but of course this mean't playing the percentages in order to fill the room hence nites of same old tunes for the party goers.... I'd say the answer to most problems aired on this thread can be found in the Events section of this forum....... sadly.
  22. No I'm Mark Chapman ..... and so's my Wife.
  23. Other than the odd nite I've pretty much given up - seems these days unless you own a Handbag or an Anorak the scene has little to offer.
