That's Eccles from Preston with a handful of gear (and some natty 70s threads)
  11. My first list was from Steve Glover from somewhere in the Midlands. Either Steve or Brian 45 in Manchester. The first "import" I bought was "Oh I've Been Blessed" Bobby Taylor (VIP) from Spin-Inn Disc Centre, Cross Street, Manchester from Kev Edwards or Gary Laine around 1968 I guess...
  12. Anyone looking to part with this depressing little wrist-slasher call me first...
  13. Always looked out for Toby at Soulgate & had fun talking bollocks & the odd half truth. Sad to hear this news this morning RIP
  14. Hi, Is this still available? Trade or cash... Cheers, Nij
  15. We used to live in N London in the late 80s and Keb was a regular visitor. He would often leave his playbox at ours. After one particularly messy party I woke up hung over & went into the living room and knelt down to pick up a few records & other debris. I lost my balance & put my knee down straight onto the Mark IV "If you can't tell me something good" on Brite-Lite which he had recently picked up. Broke it clean in half....he took it in his stride and I gave him what he paid for it. It might have been around a ton, I can't quite remember, but it was cock all compared to today's money. One of the reasons I have a soft spot for the wee chuchter.....
  16. Orig issued on Uptown label as B side to Look Who is Back Again by Slim (Smith) & Delroy(Wilson). Sadly a very lo-fi recording unlike the A-side but a truly soulful ska tune. Mine is in reasonable nick but still sounds poor. Also reissued by Coxsone in 70s. Apparently inspired Lily Allens "Smile" which boosts her cred with me immensely if it's true!
  17. Jimmy Robins "I Just Can't Please You" pretty obvious Buddy Ace " It's Gonna Be Me" another Otis Lee "Hard Row to Hoe" surely....
  18. Val Palmer/Jo Wallace...Val because she understands "old skool stomper" exactly the way I do and Jo because she goes across the board to ska/rocksteady as well as great soul taste...of course both of 'em are top girls too!
  19. Nice enough but it just sounds like a cut of William DeVaughn "Be thankful". There were several JA cuts of that my favourite probably Jackie Mittoo's " A Big Car" for Studio One. Check YouTube
  20. Sam has always seemed ancient....even in the early 70s.....
  21. F**k me, 40 years later I find out Filon's chemical name....bit late to go back to that DDA & check fi' dem....
