  1. Cheers Kev. Didnt want anything too obscure so stuck with some tried and tested stuff. Hope youre well.
  2. Dont usually reply to these lists things but theres been some belters. So for me i did a CD for someone and it comprised of: Anita Baker - Will you be mine Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers - Does your mama know about me Controllers - Somebodys got to win Dells - Private property Soul Children - What's happening Shirley Brown - This love Zingara - Love's calling David Ruffin - Statue of a fool Controllers - How is it possible Howard Hewett - This love is forever Four Tops - Ask the lonely Tavares - Let me heal the bruises Tower of Power - So very hard to go Dramatics - And I panicked Blue Notes - This time will be different Marjorie Ingram - I have no right to love you Sam Dees - Just out of my reach Nothing other than good, solid sides.
  3. Definitely one to put on my list to listen to.
  4. Fantastic set. Some more to get to know and love. Always loved LS Movement, El Count Executives (both), Young Mods amongst many. Proves that quality will always please no matter what the tempo is.
  5. Just looking again Kev. A few I don't know so I'll be checking them out. But where do you start with the ones I do know? Quality from start to finish - Watch Tower, Joy Incorporated, James Dee, Masterplan, Mantis, Diplomats, Four Mints, Mike James Kirkland, etc etc. Top drawer soul and such a welcome antidote to the turgid fodder of the top 500 and its ilk.
  6. Fabulous stuff Kev. I knew you'd do the business. Gutted to have missed it. Hope there's an opportunity for another.
  7. It's appears to be a bit of a quantum leap to doing a review of an oldies night to labelling certain DJ's as Soul Nazi's. There is no context to that in the review so it can be assumed he just wanted to get it off his chest. Strange.
  8. Amazing sets. So much quality. Well done to all involved.
  9. Linda Jones and the Whatnauts. Solo and group duet of the highest order.
  10. Yeah, I can get the second part. Might need to listen more closely for the first bit, but definitely getting there. Thanks Simon
  11. Kev, it would be in my top ten of all time that's for sure. Simply a magnificent piece of music.
  12. There's a few for me but the one that always baffles me is in one of the greatest tracks ever laid down. Tavares - Let me heal the bruises. I cant just quite get the lyrics in two places. "I'll be the same thing I've always been to you, a hand to hold onto when you needed a friend................................ and baby you know you can depend" "I'll forget my pride and push it to the side......................" One for Kev and the sweet and deep guys, maybe.
  13. Few more from me. Perhaps some leaning towards ballads rather than deep, but often on my playlist nevertheless. Roy Lee Johnson - Take me back and try me Johnny Baker - Accept me as I am Cashmeres - Ain't no coming back Fred Parris and the Restless Hearts - Ain't no use in crying Little Royal - Jealous George Jackson - Macking on you Eddy G Giles - Love with a feeling Elevation - Love won't pay the bills Cicero Blake - Sad feeling Spoilers - Sad man's land
  14. Not checked back through the earlier recommendations but these would be worth checking out. Some might not be classified as deep but definitely heartfelt and uplifting in my book. Jimmy Dobbins - What is love (I found love) Sam Hutchins - I'm tired of pretending. Joe Odom - If you knew her like I do. Thelma Jones. - Gotta find a way Paul Mitchell Trio - Now I know what loneliness is Dynamic Adam - She's gone Original Ensemble - He will take care of you. Don Hart and James Shorter - I shed a tear Wilson Pickett - I sho love you Lee Bates - Key to my heart Lou Courtney - Just to break your heart Duke Earl - Oh boy Roy Roberts - I can't go on Bogen Richards - It won't hurt
  15. One of the best double headers ever closed out the Mar-V-Lus output. The wonderful Ultimations - "If I had it to do" backed by the sublime "Without you"
  16. That's the listening for tomorrow at work sorted. Cheers Steve.
  17. Love that Joe Washington track. Interesting one, the Larry Craig track. Would grow on me. Long time favourites the Dellations and Topics and as Kev says the guys running this are keeping it real.
  18. Beautiful record. Be interested in Lorraine's view on her contribution to this masterpiece.
  19. Just awesome sets from start to finish. Definitely going to have to get to this soon.
  20. Unreleased too.
  21. Problem is with this mix is there isn't enough of it! Some lovely stuff here, Kris and some new to these ears.
  22. About time too, Steve! Looking forward to this one.
  23. This will be my listening pleasure at the weekend. Some top tunes there and some I've yet to have the pleasure of hearing.
  24. Is it Levine that is suggesting this is Willie Tee? His favourite artist? Now that wouldn't stack up would it?
  25. I've seen this clip on numerous occasions and never noticed the absent Tam. But surely the most memorable part of the clip are the threads. They couldn't have had mirrors in the dressing rooms could they?
