  1. Value please of "So glad I found you" on Yan-G. Isit/has it been played anywhere? Any info about the group/label. Also similar details for Young Brothers "What's your game" on Soul Power. Finally, any other known tracks on Otis other than Fabulous Monograms "You are my sweetheart"
  2. Thanks Pete for info - I see Google have bought/about to buy Youtube which hopefully will not make much difference to the concept which is fascinating in it's simplicity.
  3. Brief lesson on how to post from youtube would be useful, mate. In the meantime there's stuff there from Bobby Bland and Tyrone Davies that might be of interest
  4. Cheers Pete, absolute top drawer stuff. David Ruffin for me was THE male vocalist of Motown and whilst this does not come up to the standard of the very best of the Temps I still rate the vocals on this . 70's disco shite! - hope I sussed the irony
  5. Can't play this due to techno difficulties. Will this be the group that did "Tell me baby"?
  6. Every now and then I listen to stuff and think "Not bad but why oh why did that have to be in there" and it makes me like the tracks less. Examples, Lovingly yours - Timothy Wilson. What the f**k were they thinking of with that organ riff that runs all the way through and sounds like it belongs at some pier end tea dance. Similarly, Let me render my service - New Wanderers. Come on guys surely you could have come up with something better than "Cha, cha, cha" in part of the chorus. Not pet hates nor even dislikes just irritating!
  7. The point about older collectors collections coming back to the market is an interesting one. If we consider the demographics of the scene generally we can assume that we are approaching 40 years of scene activity and collecting. If we make a general assumption that collectors start in their late teens/early 20's we have a a fair number of soulies approaching their 60's who if they have not already divested themselves of their collections either piecemeal or en masse may well do so over the next few years or so. Depending on collecting issues at the time, this could have a marked effect on values. I wonder whether or not there has been a comparible period in the last 40 years where prices have been affected by significant collections being disposed of and if not this may partly because when one trend seems to have come to an end the scene has re-invented itself and found alternative styles to collect ie post-Wigan, post-Stafford, post-Keele etc. I'm sure those collectors who did sell off after these periods would have a view. The above is just a general assumption on my part, it's not really based on understanding prices as a whole which seems to be mighty complex and subject to many variables
  8. Ooops!
  9. Jerry Butler - Moody woman, now we are talking! Totally rousing, uplifting piece of vinyl sure to put a smile on anybodys face. Cant quite explain this one because the sentiment is anything but uplifting, but Little Anthony - It's not the same, will always make me feel better no matter the blackness of my mood. Probably has something to do with the superb production and the distinct vocal style.Top stuff!
  10. Better use your head - Little Anthony Get out - Harold Melvin I'm on my way - Dean Parrish The flasher - Mistura The snake - Al Wilson Goodbye nothing to say - Javells Under my thumb - Wayne Gibson My Guiness Book of British Hit Singles confirms that these all made the top 50, there are others and not all the above would have been discovered at Wigan but wre certainly played there. I refuse as a matter of utmost principal to include Sharonettes and the pitiful Wigans Ovation
  11. Top toe tapping tune - anybody who gets no buzz listening to this is dead from the neck up! This is one of those songs that disproves the rule "Familiarity breeds contempt", no amount of hearing will lessen the sheer quality. Good to see Ms Staton still recording, her 2006 "His hands" has been critically received, long may her success continue. Don't know the track listing to "Cover me ", it can be bought on Amazon however
  12. Cut my soul teeth at the Chambers which was a youth club (no alcohol), heard all the early imports and Motown stuff there, also a similar club called the Motown in Shaw/Royton? There has been a Chambers reuinion in the past which was a massive turn out, it was fondly remembered by all who went there, no just the soulies.
  13. Don't know about collecting, my old lady is just content to listen but if she ever conveyed as much passion about collecting vinyl as she does about footie - in the words of a top song " I would gracefully step aside". Come on Rod the 21st century is not that bad - give it a go.
  14. Ok, so not strictly Manchester, but The Magnet in Oldham was a great mid week venue in approx 1974/5. If memory serves me right it was on a Wednesday but cannot remember who the dj's were. Seriously for me the premier Manchester venue in the 70's was the Pendelum. Cellar club with superb atmosphere, walls dripping with condensation, Newcastle Brown behind the bar and a young Richard Searling in attendance ( I think), friday nights and a perfect warm up to the Mecca/Casino. Happy days!!!
  15. Had this on a tape for years probably via Rod Dearlove or George Sharp. Good tune, other OP tracks are maybe better imo, but cannot understand extreme opinions about the track. Value surely down to market forces?
  16. Certainly heard Lorenzo Manley at the Mecca but it's origins may have been elsewhere. I was always intrigued by the title and artist's name which as a 16 yr old seemed somehow very exotic! Many unusually named artists and titles have come and gone since but I definitely remember this one with affection. Not heard the other track but will listen to the soundclip if available.
