Andy Jackson replied to Derek Pearson's topic in Record Sales
Derek I am one of those people who has this, but won't let it go becuase of the quality of the track. Unparalled. Thankfully it remains an underplayed track. I think your value is bang on, but it would cost more to prize mine from my collection. -

It also had the highest women to men ratio in the UK with 7 girls to every fella! No wonder when I joined the Navy the lads in the mess wanted to go to Nottingham for the weekend instead of going home! (please resist obvious jokes about golden rivets and turn in the barrell etc, the memories are too painfull :-) )

Notts Palais gets my vote - dancing to Rob Smith and The Vicar - Saw Junior Walker there. The Bali Hai room downstairs was the Jazz Funk room with a revolving dance floor.

On Solar Sounds and Tapes label? Very rare - £200 is an average price for a mint one although I have seen it for almost £500 (click here for that listing). It is in demand at the moment with the Boogie scene taking off down south.

Where I spent my formative years! The revolving dance floor was in the Bali Hai Room downstairs and was the Jazz Funk venue. This is where Jonathon Woodliffe and Colin Curtis used to play top notch imports to the constantly spinning dancers - The food bar was down there as well. You could get to it either to the right of the stage as you looked at it or when you came in turn right. thanks for bringing this memory back!

I would like to offer up 10 big modern tunes for today, those that have seen action on the dance floors in 2010. I know there are many more, and would love to see other selections but for me these have been the most requested and the best received. Jaheim – I aint leavin without you Richard Earnshaw – In time Brian Culbertson feat Kenny Latimore – Another love Johnathon Butler – So strong Cool Million – Back for more Victor Haynes – Fallin Drizabone – No more sorrow Incognito – Lowdown Brenda Boykin – Love is in town Deborah Bell – Close your eyes Hopefully this time next year this list will be totally different.

Very sad news but not the end of the world. There are plenty of turntables that are more than suited to our scene that have come along in recent years. Us Modern DJs have more to be worried about than the 7 inch jocks. I mean a dusty 60's classic can be played on any turntable and it wont affect its sound quality. Our digitally enhanced stereophonic pan aural sound 12's are more in need of the 1s and 2s. Seriously though, CD's first hit our shops in 1982, 28 years ago. I think Technics have done very well to keep going with them for so long. Just seen the cost of second hand 1210's go through the roof, including those that are for 'spares or repair'.

Hear Hear Anton, that has to be the sentence and explains the problems with our scene at the moment. Too many people buy a few records and decide to put an event on to play them. There is whole new discussion about whether the important thing is the DJ or the records they own, but for me a good DJ can be spotted from the back of a very dark room. The fewer the venues the better the quality.

Where Have All The Modern Rooms Gone?
Andy Jackson replied to ImberBoy's topic in All About the SOUL
I'm with R&K on this one. Crossover and Modern at the moment share a very dodgy pact (like our government ) in the same room. Opinion is edging towards 'proper modern' standing alone and allowing people to enjoy the quality sound of crossover either in conjunction with the main room or on its own. Surely crossover has more to do with Northern than modern. Lashawn Collins does not fit well alongside Marc Evans. I love crossover, and regularly play them out in my sets, but I believe a modern room should be a modern room playing music that originated after the Casino closed down. -
I've got to go with Webby on this one. Plenty of evidence of songs crossing over into the main rooms (which should be a Modern Room). My offerings would be GQ - Make my dreams a reality Clarence Carter - Messing with my mind DJ Genesis - Tribute to Betty Wright
