  5. well after all that jazz....we will do it again when we are ready , there are two many niters as there are too many soul nites, nothing will ever change, we have taken over the marrs bar after the late Pete Robinson, but decided to not do anything as we are all too busy, collecting or otherwise..there are plenty of upfront good niters about, life line being one of them. my thoughts on the upfront niter scene is that you do get a hard core section who will go regularly to a chosen venue, as I have said befor, its an ever-changing scene, and sometimes not for the better, but thats life.we have to suck it up and make the best of everything whilst we all still can , I think we are all lucky to have a choice of places to go,and its nice to look forward to the weekend and swallow some good old soul to satisfy ourselves. as a person who likes rare tunes, I go everywhere when I can, I go to oldies as well as rarer venues, really I please myself, as I do in life when possible.but one thing that I do think is relevant and could really start another bi thread on this is, do we get confused with upfront and just plain I will play anything even if its a load of crap?
  6. our Disciples of soul allniter was upfront but mixed in with some well know stuff as not to scare off people who wanted to hear tunes they knew, we had a good mix of Dj,s some local, some big names .some who dont get to play often. we had it perfect , a great crowd in, 150 approx, local people, travellers, ect, it was two rooms , upstairs a lot of unknown rarer, down stairs more well known , dancers , no stomping oldies though, it worked. it was great, then they sold the venue, still looking for the same type of place it was not massive, it was dingy and dark downstairs . bit brighter up stairs, everything we needed and wanted. Wish we could do it again in the same venue.
  7. well that what we thought ...

  11. It was woody,s all time want for years and when he managed to get it some years ago, it made his soul heaven, we both love it, and it gets played out at every opportunity, we all have different tastes on this scene, and it would not do for us all to be like sheep, so no falling out we never thought it would go for as much as it did, however, if a collector bought it, then price don't matter , for as woody always says to me, a record is only worth as much as you are willing to pay for it,and always believe in your records, and I think they are very wise words
  12. oh dear thank god for the servicemen!

  14. cheers that was a good read! I find things like this really interesting
  15. Did anyone else catch this on BBC radio I, very interesting, they where talking about this single, and how the drum break in it is used all the time especially in drum and bass,I forgot who it was, someone from a well respected Drum and bass group, how ,in fact they got in touch with the the Winston's to ask for there permission to use it, and apparently its used very often over and over again,by all different artists of to-days D&B scene , they never made a penny from it, and where quite honournered by the fact to-days youth and older culture still like their music ! but the drummer who invented this infamous drum effect actually died penniless a few years ago , so I was wondering just how many riffs, rolls ect are used in to-days music what ever the genre. that are taken directley from a sixty's soul record. even though copy right laws exist. I really enjoyed the show, but I dare say some might find this post boring

  21. its been a long time since I walked into a venue, that's only had the doors open for half an hour, to find it packed to the rafters well done to Karl and Shorny, you pulled it off, great atmosphere, dance floor full, managed to queeze myself on it, for the 'Springers' though Big thanks to Ted for taking us, I know he was very tired driving back, far too much time on Morrisons car park I think, Me and woody really enjoyed it, Rosemary I never saw you? but it was so full, impossible to see everyone, but hey ho, once again concratulations for doing something thats close to your heart's
