EX (EXCELLENT) - Disc plays perfectly, but may have minor paper scuffs that do not interfere with the sound quality. There can possibly be a hairline scratch or two but nothing that is obvious or affects play. Vinyl is bright and shiny; label is clean and unmarked. The cover may have minor disc impression (ring wear) or slight corner creases, no wrinkles, puckers, seam splits or writing on the cover. Artwork is clean and unworn and there is no ink wear. Cover is clean but may have minor writing or marks and may show slight wear. There may be just the start of ring wear, where the disc has created a raised area on the cover that resulted in the ink wearing off the paper. There may be slight discoloration or staining, minor seam wear, and/or a small seam split. Corners may have small creases or fraying. VG (VERY GOOD) - Vinyl will have noticeable scratches or scuffs that cause minor surface noise, but do not overpower the music. There will be no skips. Vinyl may appear somewhat dull and grayish. Labels may have small tears, tape marks, larger writing, etc. but still easily legible. There may be wear or deformation of the spindle hole. Covers are worn and used. Seams may be starting to split or may have been unobtrusively repaired with clear tape. (I use special archival-quality, non-yellowing, clear tape for all repairs.) There is moderate ringwear, but the artwork is still attractive. There may be yellowing or discoloration and there may be larger writing, labels, or marks. Corners may have damage or creases and there may be scratches or gouges that otherwise damage the artwork. G (GOOD) - Well-played, dull, grayish vinyl with deeper scratches and wear causing distracting surface noise (hisses, pops, cracks and other nasties). The record will still play through without any skips. Labels may be significantly defaced or damaged. Several (but not all of the following flaws will apply: Seam splits, large marker writing, major seam splits, significant ring wear, damaged corners, tears, cuts, gouges, masking or duct tape seam repairs, or other flaws and damage. EX (EXCELLENT) - Disc plays perfectly, but may have minor paper scuffs that do not interfere with the sound quality. Understood, as i really couldn't believe you were classing BC as R&B However, i hope you're not implying with your comment above that i started listening to R&B when the Boiler started, do you? It's perfectly fine to have opinions of one's own, but i don't understand the need to prove in every message that one knows better, more and before than anybody else. That's a bit of a sweeping statement, isn't it, Marc? I mean, at the end of the day, my city helds one of (if not THE) most successful R&B clubs in Europe And yes, quite a bit of people at The Boiler like funk too, but more in its , let's say, "tittyshakin'" variety... There are R&B collectors/Dj's like Mik Parry that know and like their funk...but then, he's got a funk musical background too; he knows wich tunes are OK for a R&B club and wich ones aren't... I guess you wouldn't play BC at The Hideaway, would you...? You surely agree that "Blues for the B's" and "Damp f'aint" are both funk sides, but with a very different sound...and BC is definitively on the second group. Regarding the rawness and grittiness of soul, i'm all for it...if it comes together with some good -or, at least, half decent- production. Powerful and raw isn't equal to good - at least in my book of references. Rarety doesn't impress me, either Best! Edu

Agreed, BC can't be compared quality wise with something like Herman Hitson...but then, the grittyness, rawness and primitiveness of some funk sides are precisely the factors that make a funk 45 desirable among funk collectors, whereas these same characteristics will immediately put off most of soul fans...another factor why it's sometimes difficult to introduce funk sounds to rare soul crowds (or the other way around... ) About BC deep soul side...well, i'm not a deep soul conoisseur by any means, but it's not such a great soul tune IMO. This is an out-and-out 60's funk record that will have most of the R&B afficionados i know running out the door Don't get me wrong, it's quite a good record in its genre and certainly folk may dance to it on, let's say, "progressive thinking" venues...but (tongue firmly in cheek here, because -as you know- i like/play a wide array of styles, including funk) i find that this kind of sound is still one step away from what people will find agreeable to dance to on most rare soul do's. And, no, it's got nothing to do with the lack of soulfulness or musical quality of those funk sides...it's simply that people don't know how to dance to them . We could also discuss the lyric content of most funk 45's compared your regular "northern" side...but, at the end of the day, i think it'll take a whole new generation of soulies not necessarily educated on the "4 to the floor" school of dancing to make something like Buddy Cantrell a floorfiller.
