  1. Thanks Peter, I hate to go against public opinion but 'm sure that was not the last time we where civil to one another, i wish i could say i remember that holiday however like many of the "dayers" we went to in the 70's i have no recollection at all !!!! Hope you are ok , and family try n get out over Wolvo. now and again ..we are still out and about enjoyinh the music and social side of things, its never going to be how we personally wish. if i could find a venue just playing 70's for ever i'd never want to go anywhere else...but it aint gonna happen ..so i just switch of when they play that awful R n B (ALLEGEDLY). But i still enjoy seeing faces and being out and about with like minded people...perhaps thats not a good way to put it, i doubt many have heads that have a similar content to mine...for their sakes! Hope to see you at the Cavendish 25th Anniverssary 9th June...Paul
  2. The photograph attatched takes us back to summer 1963, in what must be one of the scenes longest "frienndships" Having scootered down from Wolverhampton Staffs.(one on a chad valley the other a triang) we find Pete Smith and Paul Harpo Harpin out and about in Weston Super Mare no doubt intent on mayhem. Their attire and in particular the shorts. not to mention the self confident if a little cavalier look in their eyes tells us these boys mean business.

Oh yes remember them well....got some great stories as well Firstly the night me and Mac caughtthe last Midland Hed from Brum got there it was snowing like hell....anyway we walked down the drive and it was all shut up and deserted we went up to the dairy at the top and thought shit wrong night and no bus ti;; sun 10 am Afteer what seemed like weeks a few caes started to arrive so back down we went...to find they had let all those there in to the place out the snow!!! but when they all hadto come out and pay the Tipton lads tried to hide in the rafters and chaos ensued And you must all remember the night Macs glass eye came out of thr sockett while he was spinning...we went to tell Kingy who didnt believe us until Mac opend the lids to reveal an empty eye sockett...there was an announcement and lights went on followed almost at once by a scream when a bird found it next to her bag Another bnight black H tried to climb in the gents window and somebody nicked his shoe The last night was after some flood if i remember and the parque' floor and warped and lifted making it like erying to dance in fuckin clogs..and that was that if i remember correctly Good times when we were all young and mad for it...where as now were just mad and up....AND LOVING IT

  15. Seem to remember at a Stafford revival Mr. Thorley playing Johnnie Taylor "What about my love" and saying"this was the best record played at Stafford".....and i think he's probalbly right....from a soul perspective!! Did enjoy.......Jessie Henderson, Garfield Fleming, Groovettes(was an oldie anyway on the way back Tony Bowd sold Gary Colborne his copy he'd had from time) Lee Bates Pyramid Ramsey Lewis Trio feat Darryl Coley George Pepp Great olies revived downstairs/upstairs Skip Jackson T J Williams Jock Mitchell Deon J (still remember etc.) plus loads more downstairs in Keith's last hour Demures etc....etc.... Biggest Stafford record.....purley in commercial terms.....Bookker Newberry III Lovetown Haven't yet seen a Stafford newies compilation that hasnt had Wigan, Rotherham and all points n'th sth east n west sounds on it not to mention lots of oldies. I'M A FIRM BELIEVER IN "IF YOU ARE NOT SURE THEN SAY F/ALL"....if i know from my rather limited knowledge imagine how much wiorse it looks to the real record elite!
  16. Ah yes Yate what great times, we first went one night in a Ford Anglia little Ronnie bought for a tenner and after he had 10 mins of driving lessons on a pub car park. Me Azza Dave Shaw Ronnie and Steve Slater how we got there ill never know in one piece but in the morning after running into the back of Neil Russels car while still on the car park it just packed in at Frankley services so we left it n got lifts into the Locarno The Second Anniversary oh dear my worst ever paranoia me n Steve Downing lying under the bingo machines shitting ourselves thought even old mates were squad the lad who drove never ever went to a soul event again i frightened him and his missus that much and they were straight What about all that fancy dress thing there was the lad who dressed like fuckin kung fu and then at about 4am it was daylight inside except for that oldies room darkest ive ever been in fell over kenny hickman in there one night Me and Ste Porter used to go on a ramble as soon as it was daylight in there mooching about for hours, then there was the night Jennifer threw up all over my back as we walked down the steps outside, then another night we lost Carl Sands, first met tim from Coventry there the famous time he went by bus A great night out and lets be honest wigan was a no go zone on sat nights at that time all that white pop shite
