  2. Some very early buys i recall were, The Carstairs, It really hurts me girl, and He who picks a rose, Sandra Phillips You suceded, Olympics The same old thing, Bob and Earl lp on B&C, Given to me by my ex's brother in law were Oh i've been blessed, Eddie Parker Love you baby, Johnny Sayles, Lee Rogers Sock some etc,,, First weeks wages i bought a High Keys demo, then a Garnett Mimms Loookin us demo, and i was off and running. First really big purchase was my Proffesionals from Pep for £30,never paid more until mid 80's for a Little Ritchie black demo £70 and Jimmy Mack demo £90, and its only this time around i have exceeded the ton. ph
  3. First visit i went down in Brian Rae's van, with a couple of cars from Wolvo tagging along. My enduring memory, not musical, was that the steps leading down the place to the dance floor were edged with silver aluminium, and the rather patchy carpet was also held together by strips of silver tape, add to that the strychnene bluey vision haze, and i ended up flat on my face, at least once and afterwards shuffled around as if i had divers boots on. Remember pulling out onr fri night at Neil Rushtons night in Walsall, giving up my lift to Mac Pit, to fing out the next lunch time Mick Holdsworth had crashed, and Mac went face first through the windscreen, and either Planty, or Dawn "bost" their arm, took that as an omen and didn't return to the town until Groovesville last year. 4. Well Smokey, my mate, at various times i've seen him smokin'......boilin'......and even on fire!!!....however thats nothing to do with the inhalation of tobbaco. But as my best man 2 months ago, he was coolin' out Brilliant quiz mate, bought a smile, as well as memories
  5. Looking at the line up i elected to play a mix of 60's 70's and Crossover....rather than be similar to the others playing Donald Height..........."Talk of the grapevine" Ambers............."I love you baby" O V Wright........"Love the way you love" Chekkers........."Lack of love" Frankie Loveman Crocker......."Ton of dynamite" Jodi Mathis...."Don't you care anymore" Rock Candy......"Alone with no love" O'Jays.........."Just to be with you" Invitations....."Look on the good side" Al Hudson and Soul Partners........."When you're gone" TSU Tornadoes........."Cutting the corners" Archie Bell and the Drells......"A thousand wonders" Whispers......."Remember" Mighty Marvellos...."Talkin' 'bout ya baby" Duke Browner......"Crying over you" Prescisions.........."Such misery" Darrell Banks........"Somebody (somewhere) needs you" Darrow Fletcher......."What good am i without you" Spyder Turner.........."I can't make it anymore" Deon Jackson........"I can't go on" Marvin Smith........"Who will do your running now" Nolan Chance......."If he makes you" Anne Sexton........"You've been gone too long" Voices of East Harlem......."Cashing in" Bobby Hutton......."Lend a hand" Carstairs........."It really hurts me girl" With some of the DJ's being held up in traffic, or work commitments, and even a no show, poor Dave was left to start the night and run over time, so i elected to do an early spot, as at both my 50th and 51st i did the same, rather than greet guests, it was a pleasant change to finishing the night. Thanks for the spot PH

  9. December '88, that was the last Cavendish, i believe, after being given the "boot" from the partnership, will not comment further there was just one, the i think one Waggon and Horses, the the move to the Black Horse, all i can say is im not on the vid The attatched pic shows a ad with line up for that night Still nice to see though, special times and memories for many people, and im still proud to be the one everyone remembers as the main player , on both of the nights 82 to 84, then 86 to 88 ph
  10. I went to Hinkley on the Friday, but as my ex from then worked saturdays in retail i also did the Ritz. We had a lift with Mick Holdsworth, Jennifer, myself Crispi, and Ian (Ric-Tic) Popple, now theres a name from time, and with Ian it was quite a "messy" outing. However he did manage to get my "Please let me in" wdj signed by JJ, and Edwins on anothrer, cant recall which??. If i remember they had sorted out the sound probs, as on the Fri. Al Kents piano was not heard at all, never could work out the Lou Ragland thing but he was good Harpo My wife now, Sandi won the Ric-Tic jacket in the raffle at Hinkley, all i can say is if we had been together at the time, it would not have made the home journey, however she did keep it and sold it many years later, when the need arose pic shows Elaine from Kiddi in the coat thingy.
  11. I've been going out 'n' playing up for years. Lets be honest here, if someone came up with a storyline that simply mentioned the regular adventures and situations we find ourselves in week in week out, it would be turned down as a work of pure fantasy, beyond belief....best we continue our soul journey with like minded people, how many instances have we had over time when commerciality has been a bane on the scene. Personally i see enough people dancing week in week out, simply geting down to the music, all that coreographed dance stuff is bollocks. Just let the music and its unique feelings get you on the floor. The only thing on the telly in our house is a picture of the cat!!!!!

Who are these people?? Why are they in my house?? They appear to be a right bunch of degenerates, so therefor my question is answered, they are there cause they are comfortable in my company, as we are all on the same mission...livin it to the max
  13. For me its always been the case....never understood people dancing to tunes never played before, at times i've seen the floor begin to empty as the tunes been revealed, and then the old classic, with those records with unusual breaks or endings that leave people either carrying on past the end or not getting there. That does not however detract from the fact that in many cases first hearing will be enough to know if you like it or not, rare occasions find you changing your opinion, but it is rare, Narbay and Daybreak are the only two that immediatley spring to mind for me. Also no mater how many hearings and other peoples love of tunes, i still find things such as Rita and the Tiaras, Arabia Guitar Ray etc....as bad as i first thought they sounded...but as i always say "we can't like 'em all.
  14. SALVADORS....STILL GETS ME EVERY TIME!!
  15. Eddie Kendricks..."Can't help what i am" Controllers..."Pictures and memories" Relatives..."Leave something worthwhile" Fantastic Four..."Pin point it down" Ronnie Savoy..."Loving you" Remarkables..."Easily mislead" Ambers..."Another love" Deon Jackson..."When your love has gone" Jimmy Soul Clark..."Tell her" Platters..."Doesn't it ring a bell" Spyder Turner..."Your good enough for me" Frank Polk..."Love is dangerous" Candace Love..."Wonderful night" Magnificent 7..."Never will i make my baby cry" Al Foster Band..."Night of thr wolf" Invitations..."Look on the good side" Ron Matlock..."You got the best of me" Rena Scott..."We can make it happen" S.O.U.L..."This time around" Zingara..."Haunted house" All the best PH

  20. Have been moochin; at home, the last day at the shop we called in Ste and Kath Powell were also there, i said can i take something as a momento, we looked in the back, very empty, bot on a shelf was a mirror, with tacky, plastic suround, probaly cost no more than 1/ 6d when bought, i have it here now, Sandi took a large piece of wallpaper that had peeled at the edges! As we chatted i recalled the final Bretby, when they said people coud take away a small item, Smokey went home with a massive fire extinguisher, "well Harpo" said Max, "we wont be beaten", and produced one from behind the counter, its kept in the kitchen at home. We will frame with wallpaper as backdrop, with mirror and from my 50th birthday , there was a book where people wrote comment, and the like, Max wrote me a really nice one, so that and a photo wil go in, not sure we can also get the extinguisher in aswell, But i will make it so it cannot be let off, its memory value far exceedsthat of a chip pan fire LOL PH XXX
