  1. Yes, one of my favourites at the moment. I'll be giving it a spin at The Sleepless Nights 5th Anniversary in Dublin (see Events Talk) Martin.
  2. Ultra Soulful, but we've come to expect no less from Mr. Dees. Thanks, Paul. Can't wait to get the full version of this..... Martin.
  3. I'm a big Chuck Jackson fan too....but Bunny's version wins this one for me......
  4. Adey Pierce of 'Cotswold Records' is one of the best. Utterly Fair in any transaction, over the years I've always came away happy after dealing with him. A true gentleman in the often dodgy world of recording collecting...... Martin.
  5. Looking for an original copy of the Kelly Brothers 'Love Time / First step Down' on the Sims label. Condition & Price - PM or e-mail me at mgoggin@eircom.net Thanks, Martin.
  6. Dang Me / I'm Tired Of Pretending - AGP 106 / Bell 1004 / Bell 90061 (Fr) Big D Breakdown / I'm The One For You - AGP 120 I Can Make You Happy / I Can't Stop Crying - Mala 599 Besides Roger Miller's 'Dang Me' , the rest of the tracks were written by Harold Thomas & Lee Jones of the Masqueraders, who along with the rest of the group, did any backing vocals... Sam has a powerful voice as anyone who's seen him with the 'Raders can confirm. 'I'm The One for you' is a nice deep track too. Martin.
  7. I'll buy a copy off you at Prestatyn Steve......
  8. 2 from 1974 that you should pick up for around a fiver if you haven't already got 'em.... Is That Anyway To Treat A Lady - Jimmy Lewis (Hotlanta) Too Late - Tavares (Capitol)
  9. 2005 That's What Love Does - Vince Montana Jr. feat William Smoke Howard (PSW)
  10. Nice one, and beautiful moody 'What's It Gonna Be' from the Same Lp. Terrific!!! Chris Morgan featured it on one of his recent CDR's.....
  11. The chance to see the actual artists that made these great records, perform live and get some dues..... Roll on Prestatyn!!!
  12. Nice one Karen, trying to get my hands on that 45 for a while. . Another great early deep side from Oscar (that I did manage to pick up) is 'Just Above A Whisper on Spinner.
  13. Nice little memory for you, Tony.
  14. I Love 'I Got What You Need', Mainstring, It's Too Late Now etc. But I've been playing 'I'm On My Way' on Paradise a lot lately over on this side of the water, a bit 'harder' than the tracks mentioned above, but great none the less. Such a shame he's gone. Did you get to see him perform live Tony?
  15. Hermann, I've e-mailed and PM-ed you Re your offer for my copy of Billy Young 'Suffering with A Hangover' . Could you reply please? Martin.
  16. Sorry Derek, I'll have to wade in here too. Delighted that this LP is so highly rated here. One of my all time favourite albums. If you don't have it it'll be the best £35 you've spent this year........
  17. Yes, 'Imagination' is a great soulful stepper, would definitely get into my 'Best of the O'Jays' CD.
  18. There's a link on the Soul-Patrol website www.soul-patrol.com to an hour long tribute to Gerald by Chicago DJ King George. Just scroll down the page a little bit. Some nice tracks on there, a lot mentioned here, plus another favourite of mine by Gerald, 'Baby You Are'
  19. Love 'Hold On' and all other tracks mentioned here Sean, but don't forget the driving 'One Night Affair' on Neptune. I spoke to J. Blackfoot a year or two back and he was talking about playing the Apollo with the Soul Children, and when I asked him who else was on the bill the first name he came up with was the O'Jays who performed 'One Night Affair' which Blackfoot loved. He said that the song's lyrics were considered 'on the edge' for the time (1969) and that the O'Jays were thought of as very 'hip' for doing it and getting on the charts. I really like Jerry Butler's version too, but for sheer 'excitement' the O'Jays version wins hands down. Martin
  20. Thanks for sharing your favourite songs, glad to see Gerald was so respected. Really envy Tony, Catriona and those who saw him in concert. It depresses me when every year we lose more soul talent, but Gerald's death really knocked the wind out of me, poor ol' Eddie.......... Martin.
  21. Just saw on the web that O'Jays lead singer Eddie Levert's son Gerald died yesterday aged just 40. Really nice singer in his own right. I was listening to a favourite steppers song of mine by Gerald called 'Dream With No Love' when I decided to look for any recent info on Gerald on the web and came across the link below.... https://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061110/NEWS99/61110018/1009/NEWS07 I'd be interested to hear does anybody else's favourite tracks by Gerald? Anybody ever catch him in concert??
  22. Ady, Can send you a scan of The Leroy Randolph tonight when I get home, if no -one has done so already.... Martin.
  23. Nope, Doesn't sound like Jimmy, and he confirmed he never recorded those tracks..... Martin. Now that's a track he still does regularly on his show.....
