Beverly Wheeler With The Cameros Don't Shake My Tree Instrumental / Vocal The shifting sands of Northern Soul sees this rarity rising to top of the more FUNK inspired DJ sets, as it successfully blends Jazz/Funk & Soul into a relentless keyboard & Wah-Wah guitar propelled dancer. The incredibly impressive INSTRUMENTAL side evokes vision of wide-brim scarlet hats, wide yellow flares, Afro-haircuts, Cadillacs, Pimps & 60s Ghetto crime. A atmospheric experience so In-Club-Vogue at this time.. Vocally exceptional as Ms. Wheeler does a Towanda Barnes style demolition of the dancefloor; with her fusion of cool-attitude backed by a Tony Steele production utilizing Harps, String Section, handclaps, horns Keyboards, Gospel inspired girl-group backing and all manner of instrumentals supporting the lead - totally bombastic production with an imposing instrumental break pulling the whole thing together. When we last had a copy - actually during the last century when the Funky Northern Soul was not in vogue we sold this 45 for £20.. ouch! but those every changing tastes, styles and demands of the DJ and dancers have in more recent times rocketed this rarity to must-own status. NORTHERN SOUL FUNK at it’s most compelling and very hard to find. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 211.00 Dave Charles Ain't Gonna Cry No More Proper Stomping Classic-style Northern Soul with a huge reputation for rarity. A snarling, growling beast of a tune, that never takes pause for a moment not even to catch breath; a break-neck stomper capable of inciting dance-floor mayhem. I’ve witnessed it’s power to ignite floor-exercises worthy of a Olga Korbut going for Gold. A drop from the real-side of Northern Soul that shimmering with rarity & potency, with a ferocious capacity for dancing-bedlam! Listen and keep still if you can.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 702.00 Jack Hammer What Greater Love This recording knocks me dead and always will do. I actually heard this version before Little Anthony’s original. When a college buddy with a huge collection played it to me. As a fledgling Soul-Boy I was totally mesmerized by the monster production and that potent vocal Jack Hammer delivered. At the time circa 1970 this 45 was only 1 year old, I couldn’t I find a copy anywhere, in fact even today I don’t think I’ve ever found a copy rummaging, ferreting around Britain’s junk-shops in the hope of a vinyl-rush that seldom cmes. This is no easy-find and I just love the tune with it’s kitchen-sink production, as Mike Vickers yet again flexes his musical-muscle with a full orchestral backing. The Best Of British! That I feel needs some turntable time…anyone got a copy in their DJ box? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 77.00 Willie Mason & All The Kings Men Why Been a long, long time since I’ve had the enviable pleasure of listing this rarity for auction. Tremendous version of the near impossible Nat Hall, this Washington, D.C. session takes it by the scruiff of the neck and irons out the rough spots, spewing out feel-good Northern Soul by the bucket load. Echo-chamber resounds with a choking lead vocal ripped through with angst and pleading pain. “WHY” “I Want To Know Now” Mix in some awesome horn work with Willie’s beseeching style and you’re listening to one heaving-monster of a tune. Miss it - we can assure you… you’ll be as sick as a Parrot. as it just does not break-surface very often.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 617.00 Supremes Jonny Und Joe C/w Thank You Darling Attention Motown / Supremes & Northern Soul DJ’s. In 1964 German CBS delved into the Motown Vaults to release “Come See About Me” with different words sung in “German”. With Diana taking lead with her impressive gift for singing foreign languages. Utilizing the backing track to Motown 1068 then adding fresh lyrics. It was of course a non-hit. As it was in various other countries Holland, Switzerland etc. But each country chose a different picture cover. This example being particularly attractive - with a clip with The three ladies suited & booted, sporting big wide grins. This is our “interesting” offering this week - for the Motown completest.. Condition is impeccable - cover totally clean, two flawless label and that deep-rich heavy German vinyl giving up top sound quality. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 42.00 -

Patterson Singers Mr. Soft Touch If you’re ever yearning for a bit of intelligent Soul-Vinyl conversation, just stand at the bar in Great Yarmouth “Soul Essence Weekender” and wise words will flow like Guinness, about other “black” stuff that is so important to us. Bri Goucher purveyor and eulogist of Deep Soul recordings was raving to the point of nearly buying me a drink about this excruciatingly rare & blindingly powerful group-ballad by the “Peterson Singers”. I said I have that and I wanted to air it a radio station set recently but ran out of time! Well two balding old men were getting very excited about it’s rarity and it’s awesome lead vocalist Mildred Lane who struts her chords like no other. So on my return I dug it out - it’s a record that everyone needs to be heard. Deep Soul vocal group recordings do not get more dominant than this New Yorker;Mildred’s vocal dripping with authority and warmth in copious amounts. DEEP SOUL rarity that will turn into a Grail overnight - and not just because “The Gouch” almost bought a round of drinks whilst frothing at the mouth over it…but also because this is one totally Superior-Soul-Session Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 177.00 Lee Walker Slipping In C/w Cold Sand This week’s offering to the Northern Soul R&B enthusiast is a very rare Los Angeles Blues 45, with a stonkin’ slab of thumpin’ R&B sheltered away on the flipside of a very sought after Harmonica driven Blues beauty. As far as I know at this moment in time, this growling-harp-steamroller has escaped all European DJ’s clutches, due to it’s extreme rarity and the demand for the squealing down-home flipside. After the door is rattled and the brief conversation intro fades, a Jump-Blues killer takes over. Willd harmonica sucks and puffs through the air, relentless shaker displaying the mastery of the instrument and what it can emit in the hands of an accomplish player. R&B Dj’s this is dripping with potential. Blues collectors you will never locate a finer copy, two flawless labels and vinyl without a blemish after absconding from 52 years of storage, strainght into my arms. If condition, rarity and quality are the three points you buy your 45s on, this October 1962 platter ticks all 3 boxes. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 99.00 Master Keys Tears Click - listen and melt! An utterly exquisite harmony vocal Northern Soul groove is about to reveal all it’s class for you, with a mid-tempo stroller demonstrating 60s harmony Northern Soul at it very smoothest. Rare early 60s Detroit in near perfect condition! This is pure quality, in dream condition - a record aimed at those of you single-minded and hellbent on owning the world’s rarest NS offerings in the best condition possible. (a couple of light smudges on the flipside vinyl - otherwise this would have been possibly grade Mint) Listen again - it’s a beauty isn’t it… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 163.00 Gloria Scott That's What You Say C/w What Am I Gonna Do Gloria Scott far to brief studio recordings with the master of L.A. Soul Bary White produced what is universally considered the greatest Soul-Sister album of tghe 70s. From that album two stand-out tracks never received USA release as 45’s firstly the amazing Rare-Soul classic “(A Case) Of Too Much Love Making” & That’s What You Say” both of which became Richard Searling signature tunes. “(A Case) Of Too Much Love Making” had a day-out in Australia (the 45 being stupidly rare” but “That’s What You Say” remained an Album only track, until French Casablanca pull them and pressed a 45 PROMO to promote the ” What Am I Gonna Do” album. This offering gives the owner the 1975 a rare chance to own a 7” complete with PROMO insert - special grooved black card Promo cover. Two flawless eye-catching labels. And two recordings that epitomize pre-disco 70s dance-soul at it’s best. Just gorgeous with two side to die for. Other than one mark of the B-side vinyl - NOT affecting play this offering is in truly spanking condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 338.00 The Butlers If That's What You Wanted C/w Your Love UNIQUE! a direct cut with the clarity only an original acetate can offer. This listing is for those of our members, who are very serious about owning the rarest form a unrivaled Northern Soul classics… This Billy Jackson creation rose from Philadelphia obscurity to become one of the GREATEST Northern Soul 45s ever heard. Still to this day the iconic collision of the gentle brushing intro with the trumpets, then the mighty drum-roll signals the start of a wildebeest-charge to the “weekender” dancefloor. So ogle the original studio acetate with no mention of Frank Beverley - slightly shortened title with the flip “Love You Pain Goes Deep)” again shorten different to “Your Love” This was the birth of one of THE most-important records to ever grace the Northern Soul scene,we are treating it as an historical Northern Soul Artifact with no comparisons, at this goosebumps moment.. springing to mind. Bid like you want to own it - bid like you want to leave this earth holding it…. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 549.00 -
Ramsey Lewis Wade In The Water C/w Ain't That Peculiar A MOD and 60s all night Club anthem in it’s most-wanted - least seen format. To the avid British Soul-Collector, this is a jewel, as it is the first 45 Ramsey had released in England and as an unknown artist it sold very little first time round; but on the back of Twisted Wheel, Mojo, Nite Owl, Beachcomber etc spins. It’s profile was lifted, so much so, Pye UK 3 years later re-issued it on Chess 9096 - then it became a countrywide Nightclub, Youth Club & even Fairground anthem White DEMO’s no matter how old you get, they still have the power to arouse Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 320.00 Carlton And His Shoes Give Me Little More WARNING! Play the soundfile aand this record will be in your head all day, all week & perhaps forever. Infectious does not get even close, to describing this exhilarating cocktail of Soul and Jamaican ingenuity. Mid-tempo addictive dancer that just lifts your spirits and the dancefloor atmosphere. For me it’s totally brilliant as I’ve played it 4 times this morning already, I’m hooked this is narcotic Northern Soul! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 112.00 Various Artists The Sue Story Volume 3 Cleaning Women! Cleaning Clean Woman! Was this the Lady Steve Martin was thinking about in Movie “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid” ? No according to legend this was the lady, with the huge broom who tidied up the SUE /ISLAND offices on Cambridge Road, London NW6 But this album is so much more than being a most inventive cover or indeed the rarest in this illustrious series of “The Sue Story”. It also has a 14 track choice aimed directly at the burgeoning English all-nite R&B Club dance audience. Every track hand picked to light up the 1966 dance-floor. A forerunner you may say to the “Northern Soul” compilation album. Britain most collectable record label at it’s good-looking best. Liner notes submitted by another influential man of the time DJ Mike Raven another pioneer and driving of Soul music scene during the mid-60s. It has got the lot, this listing has for the nostalgic amongst us, boasts two clean labels, cover’s only flaws show some light wear to the edges, sparse age “browning” to the back cover’s “white” areas. Two totally clean labels - vinyl inspection reveals only the lightest of hairline blemishes none of which affect play. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 201.00 Patti Austin Leave A Little Love + 3 When I was a young man I was incredibly lucky to do a trade with a Frenchman who had 3 copies of this ridiculously desirable 4 track EP. All were Mint unplayed. Even then back in 1980 I got very strong money on their sale. I always wished I kept a copy. Well now 34 years later one of those copies has found it’s way back to me - in the same condition it left me in. Unless the other two collectors filed their copies and just occasionally gazed upon it’s beauty (like the previous owner did), this example will be the finest copy to come to Manship’s-market since 1980. FRENCH ONLY and offering two of Patti’s finest Northern Soul offerings of the 10 45’s she released for Coral as a teenager and inexplicably not one of those NS killers received a British release. At this moment, you are viewing Patti Austin’s rarest & most-collectable vinyl offer in astonishing condition, that in the future I doubt will ever be matched. Click the soundfile to be very impressed - but not as much as you will be, if you ever privileged enough, to encounter the flawless cover, vinyl & labels of this historical release. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 244.00 Otis Clay The Only Way Is Up Northern Soul WHITE PROMO collectors each-your-heart-out Well I’m not ashamed to admit this 45 is SO RARE I can’t ever remember seeing one before neither can all the other dealer/collectors I’ve spoke to at Soul Essence Weekender last week. Same song each side and it plays perfectly..label has light browning (see scan) vinyl has some light surface hairline but not affecting play in the slightest (listen to the impressive soundfile) So, NS WHITE PROMO addicts will you sleep tonight… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 181.00

Tammaraw I Don't Want To Lose You C/w That's The Way Arthur Fenn’s former “Newday” cover up.. boy that man has taste… Me off course I’m not renown for DJing great modern-soul records - but this baby does sit in my DJ box because I think it’s an utterly top-quality tune, that has not had enough exposure. I’ve often played it in radio sets etc. so I feel pretty privileged to be able to auction this title and again try and highlight a record that should cross over to the Northern Soul rooms for even more plaudits. Do not take my word for it, click the soundfile now… It unleashes an hybrid of carefully constructed soul, laced with a jazz/funk style arrangement. The effect is stunning, so much so I first played it 15 minutes ago and I’ve dropped the arm on it 3 times in succession since. So very classy and made classier with a smokey lead vocal from Val Brown steep in character. This is a TUNE! “Propa” as “Dithers” so aptly put it.. But do not overlook the flipside is a highly-pitched girl-led (Jamie Randall) totally haunting ballad. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 173.00 Edwin Starr War C/w He Who Picks A Rose some of these later TMG 700s as DEMO copies are darn hard to find. As I’m sure avid British Motown hoarders will confirm. TMG 754 as a promo is one of those strange vinyl-anomalies that defy all logic as to why is it rarer than most-other 700’s. But according to our sales data, we have actually ad more copies of the fabled TMG 720 than this example. The a-side is of course a fine example of Norman Whitfield’s genius, that rocketed off Motown in a totally different direction when Mr. Whitfield’s ingenious & individual blending of Psychedelic Funk & Soul caught the public imagination. So to the flipside - same song that The Carstairs made a Northern Soul classic and a Golden Torch anthem and of course a reworking of Jimmy Ruffins current Northern Soul club-favourite. Oddly this side has received only sparse Northern Soul action, surprising considering the punch it packs! Total “Starr” style Northern Soul filled with the energy only Edwin can deliver! Two great sides - one rare PROMO - so to the condition - do carefully inspect the label scan particularly the center hole - the vinyl shards produced during the die-cut process are still hanging there - condition does not get much finer than that tell tale sign of recent stylus-virginity. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 201.00 Bud Harper Mr. Soul C/w Let Me Love You Recenty we have been most fortunate in having in the Twisted Wheel inspired “R N’ B Scene” magazines edition and launched by “Wheel Legend” Roger Eagle. Allegedly Roger was on the Duke / Peacock mailshot for new releases so perhaps the first copy played at that influential Club was Peacock 1939 . But we’re pretty sure other “Niters” of the period would have played it off the now coveted British Vocalion 1965 release. This 45 during the 60s became a Soul-Boys theme tune, as being a MOD/Soul-Boy was so aptly covered by the moniker “Mr. Soul”, it was soon recognized as a classic spin. Later of course the flipside “Let Me Love You” emerged as the Northern Soul spin of choice. Today before you it’s by far it’s most wanted form - Vocalion DEMO’s are damn difficult to find, but when it comes to one of the greatest Soul tunes ever released by Decca - you are talking records that just don’t leave collections once secured. Condition is impeccable; “Mr Soul” side has one very light blemish on the vinyl EX+. Flipside vinyl is Mint -. View the label scans a-side has a radio station file #. and a Decca 2.30 running time stamp. Flipside label is clean. Rarity? Well it’s the first DEMO we have listed in at least 15 years as we have no record of it on our database… and it’ll perhaps be another 15 years before we list another. Saturated with history, kudos and collectabilty. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 109.00 Cecil Lyde I'll Make It On My Own C/w Happy Feeling A deliciously rich early 80’s flipside that has had huge appreciation ion the modern room for decades now. Especially adored for it’s full compliment of trumpets, joined by a bevvy of purring girls with their own contribution. With Cecil’s expressive vocal convincing with it’s determination to “Make It On His Own” - clever tough to give those undredited ladies a verse all of their own. A touch that seals this record as something special. Fabulous dance tune, that avoids any of the disco cliches that polluted soul music productions of the period. Flip it over - for what Cecil chose as the lead side a slightly funkier approach that touches on the commercial atmosphere of it’s time. Al Hudson, Leon Haywood styled chucky-funk. Let’s jump back to the side chosen by the European Soulsters ..so very much better. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 212.00 Marvin L. Sims Get Off My Back C/w Danger Slept for far too long! I’ve personally been clobbering this convincing Chicago creature in recent times when that time in your set is ramped up so high you need the ultimate stomper to explode, to rubber-stamping your hour of turntable activity. This Charles Colbert production is about as fiery of NS gets; Mr. Colbert takes a leaf from Monk Higgins and slaps of the horns heavy n’ thick as Marvin L. snarls, Johnny Sayles style into a thumping Northern Soul muscled-up with all the ingredients a real-deal-stomper requires. It’s a mystery why this was not a Torch or Wigan Casino Monster although both clubs flirted with it. Sustained play would have lifted it high and clear of it’s competitors which in those heading times was a bustling vinyl-crowd of worthy candidates. We & especially me, think the time is now for this dance hall cyclops to take stage. It proper stuff, it’s potent and it so compelling. Deep Soul fans note a awesome gem lays hidden on the flip. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 110.00 -

Village Sound These Windows It’s been an astonishing 6 years seen we sold a copy of the memorable Memphis monster. and this copy is FLAWLESS! Well upon hearing it again all of us will be thinking exactly the same..this needs a revival campaign. It’s a proper-Niter-tune; a frantic but controlled stomper powered by an exhilarating combination of horns and a rousing organ fueling real-deal Northern Soul enhanced even more by the use of shrill girl assisted chorus. Fabulous lengthy instrumental breaks and the blue-eyed vocalist carrying that essential “crack” in vocal that portrays “Soul” Wonderfully elusive and begging for REVIVAL !!!! Another disc from that “File” only collection we were lucky enough to secure.. vinyl and labels are impeccable, you may never see a better one. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 331.00 Notations You Should Know C/w Eleven O'clock My first love, without question is USA male vocal group harmony Northern Soul so when one of Soul most talented (if a little unsung) producers is on the job - you gotta sit up and take notice. Stan Vincent most famous for his “Ooh Baby” The Five Stairsteps hit. Had a way with guiding vocal groups through fulfilling orchestra productions. Let’s take the A-side first .. a total killer of a tune, sees The Notations rise to the challenge of Stan’s full orchestra arrangement with a Mike Terry styled baritone sax burping away at all the right moments punctuating skilfully served harmony vocals…for me this is a masterpiece that has been passed over, mainly due to RARITY! not many can boast this gorg-tune in their DJ boxes. But wait! There’s more, the flip is is only a note behind in quality, danceabilty and craft.. Take a listen to ” Eleven O’Clock” you will be wondering why you’ve never heard of it before.. it’s a stunning piece of work.. like all of Stan’s projects, it’s precise and so finely-forged. TWO great sides - one very elusive disc! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 349.00 Sandy Wynns The Touch Of Venus Eye-Candy from down-under. Especially picked for the growing band of collectors who like to own the Northern Soul true-classics in their most unusual form. An enduring classic dripping with class - Ed Cobb’s submission to Motown that only got as far as Patrice Holloway and a studio “lick it and see” version. Perhaps not “poppy” enough for a 1964 Motown release, but certainly way ahead of it’s time in terms of the fluid seamless dance production. Then Ed Cobb offered it to Edna Wright and a Northern Soul anthem was born. In this form you won’t need us or anyone else to confirm it’s serious rarity. Looks gorgeous, plays beautiful on that high quality Australian-vinyl and those Ozzie’s always bowl us over with their those creative label designs. A Head-turner … Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 358.00 Lee Roye Tears (nothing But Tears) C/w Who Am I There is no better vinyl-investment than Northern Soul true classics in Mint condition - this 45 is another capture from a collection that had no interest in anything but Blues. Everything else was filed in label order, and left alone. No signs of play until we released it from it’s sleeve not a blemish or any sign of aging to either label. This is perfection - the minus is because we are cautious to use the word MINT it is after all 46 years old. A New Yorker that rammed the floors of all the Northern Soul clubs of the 70s..and still to this day it is received with a round of applause.. could we ever tire of it.. Lee Roye himself has always been shrouded in mystery .. but a little investigation states it was initially credited to arranger TOM SELLERS until receiving a more commercially pleasing name. Some great credits this disc has too. Rudy Clark (songwriter suprene), Ralph Bailey (no stranger to crafting NS), Tom Sellers, Bert Keyes & Bob Elgin all pulled together by the production prowess of Jerry Katz.. little wonder this is just helluva tune! PS is Jerry Katz, a non-de-plume for Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz? “Quick Joey Small” tell us, I’m intrigued.. by all the mystery this 45 emits… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 250.00 Maximilian The Snake A MOD anthem that is no easy find on it’s original USA Big Top release but as an immaculate 1961 UK Promo it really is insanely elusive. Maxfield Doyle Crook an inventive musician captures the essence of “Go-Go” with a mix of primitive electro & wailing Sax lightened up by a zinging xylophone effect to craft an instrumental from the 60s still entrenched in the sputnik-age of spacey instrumental. How memorable is this ear-worm that the 3rd generation of British MODS took to their heart and made a huge wanted tune. The beauty of this listing is so much wider than it’s ingenious Boo-Ga-Loo inducing dance qualities; To the avid British collector the sparkling condition of the rare DEMO may prove to much to pass by. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 161.00 -
Hyperions Why You Wanna Treat Me Like You Do C/w Believe In Me NOTE: This is the RARE “WHY YOU WANNA TREAT ME LIKE YOU DO” miss spelled title missing the word “WAY” completely out. Fantastic Los Angeles Northern Soul that lay on my front room carpet after returning from a Los Angeles buying trip with 68 unissed Motown Acetates, Johnny Honeycutt, Four Tracks and many other top drawer tunes of the day after Simon Soussan let me into his recent haul. The focus of coarse was on the big hitters, but one visitor that day looked beyond the obvious, my memory is fading but it was either Gary Spencer, Steve Smith or Butch who purchased this 45 then an unknown. I hardly noticed it had passed through my hands, until within weeks it was a monster tune. As I overlooked it’s infectious quality, in it’s all too brief appraisal. Since then, decades have past and very very few copies have ever come my way, today it still stands and a hugely well received under-played oldie of genuine rarity. Listening today, if titles like The Originals “Baby Have Mercy On Me” were not piled up on my sofa - I would surely have asked a kings-ransom for this killer - back then perceived a one-off. This copy has some light surface marks but as you can hear it plays superbly - and as you can seen both labels are unblemished. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 688.00 Sisters Sledge Brand New Generation C/w Time Will Tell Another spoke in the perpetually spinning wheel of collecting Rare-Soul. 20 years ago this was an oddity, a curious piece from the desk of Marty Bryant, an independent 70s soul offering, giving up not one but two different genres that are currently so much in vogue. Top side is forceful Sister-FUNKER lifted by soaring horns, that lead the way into punchy highly pitch harmony vocals. A strong persistent dancer fitting perfectly into today’s well received and burgeoning Rare Soul Funk scene. Another scene that is currently on the up both sides of the Atlantic is the long-standing appreciation of Sweet Soul harmony, so witness these ladies doing-it-up-tight n’ lush. Again the horns bolster the production as a beseeching lead vocal lays bear her loyalty. Soothing harmony chorus from the sisters as the lead changes hands a couple of times as this recording ascends slowly but surely into soulful-bliss. Two damn awesome tunes - both of which have been waiting far too long time for their recognition as overlooked greats. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 160.00 Steptone Your Love Is Like The Rising Sun Vocal/instru. This week’s Sweet offering - is not only sensationally syrupy it’s a fabulous Soulful Stepper, presumably inspired by The Temptations From the surrounding areas of Detroit comes this “outskirts” Motor City vocal-group beauty out of Novi, Michigan. Who like their better known recordings on Fast Track & IX Chains, it’s Ossie Hobson & Leonard Jones taking the wheel to drive the creamy harmony over a lush horn-lifted arrangement. So very silky you could easily be forgiven for thinking this was “The Temps” themselves. I’m a little annoyed I didn’t taken this beauty to “Soul Essence” last Weekend, as this would have sat in my or anybody’s else’s set so snugly. Hard-To-Find and just so amicably Brilliant! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 131.00 Flora D. Way Out Baby C/w This weeks obscure Northern Soul R&B offering is a rare Chicago Sister-Shaker that was honored on the “Foxy R&B: Richard Stamz Chicago Blues” CD but as a 45 in this fine condition it is one very tough cookie to find. We can find a WWW auction copy anything above used and abused. So listen to a gal who is about to drill a hole in your head with her anguished screech out flanking Harold Burrage’s horn arrangement. The cocktail is an intoxicating urban R&B dancer of the most compelling kind, with Flora’s voice literally knocks you sideways before the robust sax-break takes the recording up yet another level. Check out it’s undeniable power full of persuasive qualities to ignite the floorspace. LOVE IT! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 213.00 Joe Hicks I Gotta Be Free C/w Don't It Make You Feel Funky The very RARE and highly coveted AGC # 2 release that utilizes # 1 issue “Don’t It Make You Feel Funky” as the flipside. So very rarely comes to market as the “I Gotta Be Free” as the a-side. Two thumpin’ Northern Soul juggernauts on one disc with enviable NS rarity kudos. Click the soundfile stand back and be prepared to be steamrollered by two California spring of 1968 runaway trucks! Condition is gleaming! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 742.00

Moses Smith The Girl Across The Street C/w Hey Love (i Wanna Thanks You) Wanna feel 18 again… click the soundfile Want to know why the addiction of Northern Soul vinyl collecting is just as strong now as it ever was - gaze upon the label scan.. … few love affairs last a lifetime… I’m still in love.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 246.00 Troy Dodds Try My Love C/w The Real Thing MINT and perhaps my favourite rare soul label design EVER, so beautiful… So how pleasing is it that this head-turner, is no one-trick Soul-Blonde. It also offers the keeper TWO fabulous examples of Sunny California Northern Soul..or should that read “Foggy” California - as this is one of the peaks within that rich vein of 60s Bay Area Soul. Rick Appling’s collaboration with Troy Dodds, was a meeting of two giant sounds as the production had to marry with Mr. Dodds earthquake inducing vocal..and it does just that note for note the mid-paced steamroller delivers POWER decorated with squealing and consummate horn blows. Flip it over for a side..so far neglected by NS Jocks but so similar in make-up it would be a certain hit, if it got more than it’s occasional airing… we know what Troy’s vocal is about to do; the swooning girls are still there, salivating over that voice; so Mr. Appling pulls as if from nowhere a crazed saxophonist, who does a most-unforgettable break and those lusting girls go totally insane… tell me a record with a stronger girl studio presence than this session ignites… TWO sides just giving it righyt up - and doing it down and oh so dirty! In fact my copy is going back in the DJ box for “The Real Thing” to follow David Coleman’s “Drown My Heart” and The Isley Brothers ” Who’s That Lady-1962” - three mood-swinging Popcorn/Latin/Northern Soulers… Irresistible..just irresistible Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 563.00 Freedom Machine Stop Doubting My Love C/w She Shakes For My Sake This week’s Sweet Soul offering comes from the busy desk of the inimitable George Clinton. On occasion when I hear a truly Stand-Out Soul tune, I seem to inadvertently revert to “food” analogies like delicious, scrumptious, yummy; I now know why, as this sweet-soul masterpiece has left me salivating for more. 3 minutes 27 seconds is just not long enough, I feel some pretentious nouvelle-cuisine chef has just serve me one perfectly cooked pea, surrounded by an insipid bubbly foam for my main course. Oh how hungry am I for more soul of this “Michelin” standard harmony soul. Flawless vocal-group dining laid on a bed of strings, slowly cooked lead vocal dripping in vanilla, surrounded by a julienne of backing vocals so finely cut… it hurts. it’s recordings of this exquisite calibre that momentarily make me forget all the other soul genres. This is a dish best served warm and slowly savored. PROPER REAL DEAL SOUL of the sweetest kind. Flip it over, and in true George Clinton you’ve finished your nosh, so get to the bar ….and GET DOWN! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 53.00 Corletts I'm Getting Tired C/w Lost Without Your Love An early Patrick Adams collaboration with Bobby Robinson crafts two exceptional girl-group Northern Soul dancers. Top side is real-deal “Whoo-Whoo” Northern Soul saturated in booming brass and an ear-splitting lead vocal supported by her shrill classmates. Total Northern Soul, that briskly gives up proper adrenaline-inducing NS dance. Since the heady days of “The Stomper Rules” and it’s premature bootlegging on the styrene “Bobby Robinson” label BR, this rarity has become more coveted for the classier flipside. A mid-tempo dream which carries all the same ingredients but arguably double-the-attraction, as it’s totally perfect for today’s dancefloor. The “Schoolgirl” lead vocal who proclaims she’s been left with a “Hole In Her Heart” makes every word of the poignant lyrics count, as she squeals her pain and anguish caused by lost love. Utterly SUPERB ! and so deserving of the attention it has received from the DJ’s who try and push the NS envelope. Proper double-sider offering value & excellence along with proven rarity. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 337.00 Bobby Barnes Thank You For Loving Me C/w You Make My Life (a Sunny Day) What time is it? - It’s Soul Time..Real-Soul Time!! A moving session from the streets of Phoenix, portraying a man’s gratitude for his lady’s love; This is stronger than anything I’ve heard in recent times. The highly skilled vocal-chords of Bobby Barnes reach out to you on raft of emotional notes of love. Listen how the man’s voice gently cracks as he relives his memories, listen how his voice bubbles up and purrs with delight when he remembers the special times. This is “Soul” storytelling at it’s outer most eye-dampening best! The type of artist I’d love to witness, in a small club playing to an audience who know an especially distinguished Soul-Man when they hear one. This tune is outrageously Soulful, steppers don’t come any more eloquent than this masterpiece. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 150.00 -

Fran Oliver Next Time You See Me Doc Oliver is never one to disappoint… This 45 has been bubblin’ away on the back burner for decades - now starting to break the surface of the imaginative early-doors sets (Get to hear DJ Ann Taylor early-doors now she does a cool-set) Anyhow back to the listing, an elusive Chicago street-level production that instantly catches your attention, with the subtly caressed bongos at the intro. Fran’s “Teri Goodnight” off-key vocal style works wonders with Doc Oliver’s minimalistic approach as an infectious keyboard works it’s way into your brain, enriched by subtle horns. This is smart-producing as the whole mix builds up and has you totally hooked. We think this rarity deserves more than early-doors as you cannot ovoid it turning into a Northern Soul ear-worm… Infectious in the extreme, drenched in potential for the BIg-Ticket.. like so many tunes just requires that Ann Tayloresque DJ to push the boundaries of our music… with this this 45 though you can be pretty sure the DJ before and after you, will most-probably not have a copy… Go on stamp your mark… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 110.00 Denise La Salle A Love Reputation C/w One Little Thing Highly desirable PROMO. WE have never seen a “Green” label promo and because the other Billy The Kid Emerson releases are also “Blue with silver text” design. I think it’s safe to presume that this is the “First” choice of colour on this release. Classic/Timeless Northern Soul that without exception sucks them up off their chair like the mighty Tarpon taking a fly. Dumps the flock on the dance-floor and your DJ set is up and running.. it’s a “banker” for NS reaction. So if you care about owning it’s rarest format - this PROMO copy is it. Condition ..you could not wish to meet better.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 255.00 Premonitions In Love Together C/w Baby Baby Another genuinely RARE vocal-group Northern Soul rarity that has been patiently for decades, awaiting call up to the front-line. There is no real formula, as to what breaks the price-barrier and what snoozes away in the very best collections, talked about on forums, bar stools and in the bedroom; as the bored wife has to again listen to her record collecting husband’s perversions of owning the seldom-seen scarcity bubbling over with NS potential. So DJ’s and collectors looking for a worthy new addition to spark your life into action, we solidly believe this listing can only go one way in price.. Topside is an uplifting zippy harmony Northern Soul dancer full of finely honed vocals that retain a street-level honesty, as naivety triumphs over perfection. Fabulous Northern Soul but even then it pales to the masterpiece that lays hidden on the flip. Just like The Astors on Stax 139, this 45 underlines there is more than the Northern Soul crowd who are willing to dive into their deep pockets for disc with the right vinyl-pedigree. “Baby, Baby” is for me and many others is a 60s Sweet Soul treasure. Listen and weep, not only for the mood-changing quality of the emotion portrayed but also for the fact that most collectors will pass through this life without being able to jump out of bed and play this to his or anybody else’s wife. RARE and so darn good, BOTH sides… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 307.00 Sam & Bill I'll Try C/w I Feel Like Crying Super elusive 1967 British PROMO. The short lived partnership of Bill Johnson and Sam Gary only produced a mere 6 45’s which is a shame as these guys vocally-surged with Southern Soul angst producing ballads every note as good as the most coveted 60s Soul-Braces on the circuit. This very elusive promo delivers value on two fronts. “I’ll Try” being a superb example of Northern Soul that in more recent times enjoyed huge MOD scene adulation and the flipside universally considered Deep Soul par excellence. So before you today is the most desirable way to own this double-hitter. and immaculate British DEMO with a date stamped center piece still sung in it’s birth-sleeve. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 122.00 Curtis Lee & The Kcp's Everybody's Going Wild C/w Get In My Bag Wow! how often do you see this fabulous Northern Soul stomper as the 1967 British PROMO! Label owner Jack Taylor & Robert Gallo again craft thumping Northern Soul for their highly regarded New York based Rojac label (Robert/Jack), which UK CBS had rights to release during the mid-60s. Not only is this format insanely hard to acquire, it also gives up shocking levels of Soul-potency that must have sent shivers down the backs of the Twisted Wheel congregation. The side we lead with is searing Northern Soul, high-octane injected, rasping drop of the real-thing. Flip it over for the side that Jack & Bob considered held the most-chance of sales and your treated to an explosive Hunk-Of-Funk! That has been receiving lots of attention from the DJ’s who like to shake it up, in a different direction. Two fab sides one extremely rare disc that will have those British DEMO addicts extremely excited. This copy has fine clean vinyl both sides the only flaw we can fine is a tiny unobtrusive “x” and a sticker blemish on the orange “A” side. (see scan) Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,347.00 Exits I Don't Want To Hear It The gathering of Jimmy Conwell, Godoy Colbert, Sir Hank Graham again serve up stand-out vocal group Northern Soul. Another rarity that is crying out for more club turntable exposure than it has received over the years - but we can forgive because it is these guys rarest offering on the label. In signature style Jimmy Conwell’s pleading vocal reaches out to us all, gliding along an unobtrusive arrangement adorned with creamy harmony vocal chorus and a considerate horns that only blare out as the vocal pauses. A true sign a masterclass soul-producing. This NEEDS to be heard - it is a sleepy-beauty who requires just a kiss to stir and impress.. at this very moment totally under-valued, in the future who knows what price - especially as a Mint - copy seldom come to market. Do not overlook the the bonus of the lush instrumental version on the flipside showcasing Sir Graham’s production skills without Jimmy’s overwhelming, decidedly heart wrenching lead vocal. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 212.00 O'kaysions Girl Watcher Call me old fashioned but I do appreciate the “first” original local labels and don’t we just adore those cheesy group shot Picture Sleeves with a most-unlikely bunch of good-looking guys serving up classic Northern Soul! From the backwoods of Wilson, North Carolina to achieve a “Gold Record” when the power of ABC distribution turned this into a huge hit and of course a big 60s Brit-club hit also. A Twisted Wheel classic spin - but in these clothes, so very desirable for those of you who appreciate “firsts” Complete with it’s rarely spied Picture Cover, it’s sparse but beautiful gold text on black label.. Vinyl has a few light marks but as you can hear it plays superbly - the Piccy sleeve I could gaze at for an age wondering how these guys served up such a compelling “soul” club dance experience; of coarse it was “The Beach” influence - but don’t they don it well, even if their dress sense comes into question… a little Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 66.00 Appointments Keep Away C/w (funny Feelin') Stepping Closer The work of East Coast Soul Master Gene Redd is right up there with the very most respected writer/producers. This listing represents one of his rarest 45s, a fabulous vocal-group Northern Soul dancer that so seldom comers to market. Take a listen to the soothing intro that turns into layer after layer of mood changing soul, as Mr. Redd constructs the session. Nothing is spared as the pleading vocal begs “space” and the backing singers raise the bar from cooing to squealing as the emotion blows up. Gene mixes harmony with and lush instrumental into a top-drawer slab of Northern bridged by an impressive instrumental break. FANTASTIC STUFF! Flip it over over and it’s NOT “Funny Feelin” but the highly sought after “STEPPIN’ CLOSER” (Dart 3510) with all the “in vogue” ingredients for today’s scene as Gene gets a tad FUNKY; utilizing all the same assets to again craft a belting piece a Northern Soul this time with “edge”, as the horns whip up a rage and the girls enter soul-frenzy as the Prince Of Musical-Assertion keeps ramping up the production. Want it rare, want great value for your investment, this jewel offers that in abundance..lush top side, and the “miss-press” chunk-of-FUNK flip. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 572.00 Wm. Green & Marty's All Stars Pretzel ”..and now for something completely different” A Tittyshaker of Tsunami proportions and it’s “Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat” RARE! I’m not sure what was in the cocktails at “Marty’s” that evening but this Hollywood throng kick out a killer hammond led Boo-Ga-Loo shaker decorated in horns, and an “high as a kite” saxophonist who rattles the club to it’s foundations. You want a “Tittyshaker”? you dig the “Organ”? you appreciate musicians who just “Let Loose” ? …this recording of William Green at “Marty’s” delivers the lot!! Rare? ever seen “Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat” ? I’d never seen this 45 before… you could well be the only DJ playing it! We think it’ll turn heads and palpitate the crowd, just like it did back in 1962 Hollywood… a KILLER that’s f’sure… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 67.00

Arabians (please) Take A Chance On Me C/w You Upset Me Baby Beautifully flawless PROMO of this fine Detroit-born slab of Northern Soul. A dancefloor favourite for decades but surprisingly never bootlegged…always a record you can drop into any set at anytime and be guaranteed the floor will not dwindle.. and one I find that allows a slightly obscurer vocal group rarity to comfortably slot right in behind it. Another fine Detroit James Hendrix session with the invaluable skills of McKinley Jackson guiding the dance arrangement. This is silky, solid Northern Soul from a source that consistently gave up finely tuned Motor City 60s Northern.. Note this PROMO is the VINYL press variation - and do not overlook the equally captivating flipside Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 210.00 Jean Terrell Rising Cost Of Love C/w I Had To Fall In Love From her coveted album “I Had To Fall In Love” comes this fabulous version of the sought-after Darrow Fletcher 45 on Atlantic; and just like Darrow’s prize, this version too is very tricky to snare as the 7”, as it’s again ONLY on the STOCK copy. This seldom seen stocker is MINT - in every respect ,so take a clear listen to a lady who’s vocal took her to Motown top replace Diana Ross in the Supremes in 1970. Jean vocal carries a truckload more soul - which took the Supremes away from their encroaching entrenchment into “Pop” as the new trio cut their crowning glory “Stoned Love”… 5 years later Jean was with A&M for an all too brief solo career. Her album is rightly considered one of the finest “Sister-Soul” solo albums of the 70s. As she joined Philly virtuoso Bobby Martin who along with Len Ron Hanks & Zane Grey craft a forceful fusion of funk, soul & jazz whilst lushly applying those Philly strings… a wondrous groove. Awesome stuff and as this stock copy - annoyingly elusive! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 79.00 Delbert And The Stewart Sensation Stewart's Sensation C/w How Far Can Our Love Go? We like different: .. and it seems most of our long term customers all love the weird wonderful things you can discover whilst digging below the surface of soul music. The Delbert Stewart D.I.Y. Cincinnati, Ohio project is so delightfully primitive, that is the whole attraction of it’s being. Every week we try and make our selection of 15 as diverse as we possibly can. This weird one ticks all the boxes to be heard, it will no doubt polarize opinion as Delbert jumps from a hammond propelled funky jazzed-up vocal group dancer on one side - to a vocal harmony ballad on the other. Funky side only has brief vocals introducing the band, then a banging hammond driven by a crazed keyboard player takes over.. wild to say the least. Flip it over and it’s the side Delbert lead with locally - an off-key “Roshell Anderson” style deliver is supported by a shrill group echoing support. atmospheric setting is lifted again by a pedestrian but persistent hammond organ. Both sides scream “independent” production but the charm and endeavor of this street-level enterprise shines through.. Comes in perfect condition along with it’s “Radio Station Response Post Card” that unfortunately for Delbert never got used.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 12.00 Major Lance Um, Um , Um, Um, Um, Um + 5 British ONLY SIX track EP complete with unique laminated cover. 1963 was the year the innovative pioneer DJ Roger Eagle kicked off his now fabled “Twisted Wheel” all-nighters. With one of this EP’s tracks “Monkey Time” in 1964 lighting the way for what was to become an unparallelled NS admiration of this renowned Chicago Soul Man. As all his recordings over the coming years featured in British club sets. This EP however throws up a few tracks NOT issued on a single in the UK or USA “Hitch Hike” “The Bird” “Keep On Loving You” never made 45. With Major Debut Okeh recording “Delilah” never enjoying an issue as a c7” in the USA. overlooked is the last track side two “Keep On Loving You” a Curtis Mayfield project carries Northern Soul potential to this day. So an EP with so much to offer - in fine clean condition - and bonus sleeve notes by the legendary WVON DJ E. Rodney Jones. It’s got the lot.. 6 cool tracks, one “pop-art” kinky cover, historical sleeve notes and genuine rarity + fully 6 great recordings covering The Majors early years. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 97.00 Eugene Remus You Never Miss A Good Thing (with Strings) C/w Gotta Have Your Lovbin' An historical 45 - second release of this fledgling label, that was about to take the world by a storm! Berry Gordy the persistent perfectionist went back to the studio 14th of September 1961 with right-hand-man Smokey Robinson; adding strings (like he did on a few rethinks the previous and first Motown release by The Satintones springs to mind.) on his productions - this improvement made no difference whatsoever, as this Motown 1001 45 sold “zilch” later becoming the highly-prize “with strings” trophy-piece. a-side matrix :H-55510 mix WITH STRINGS! deadwax matrix L8 0W 7990-1A b-side matrix :H-55509 mix NO STRINGS! deadwax matrix L8 0W 989-1B The most difficult task whilst trying to gather up all the wicked variations Motown manufactured is getting these early street distributed 45s in acceptable condition. Rhythm Machine Originasl 1976 Press 231488RARE 1976 original press! Not only a killer album offering up a fine-blending of FUNK, Vocal Group Northern Soul, slick Crossover dance-groove & some stunning Sweet Soul. We have taken a soundfile a cross-section of this 7 man gathering crisply honed versatility. 5 tracks with have lifted from the 8 tracks on offer. The condition is as follows both labels are flawless, close inspection of the vinyl reveals light surface marks, light insignificant surface blemishes NONE of which transfer to the stylus. Check out the fine clean soundfile, it plays a strong clean excellent. The COVER we have as always scanned both sides - front cover as was the habit in those days has received a neat “cellotape” strengthening around the top / bottom & spine (see scan) - back cover has a light water stain bottom right (see scan) There is no need to stress the importance of this ultra-hunted album - as the sound-files and seldom seen status will do all the talking. A LP Grail of momentous importance.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 146.00 Billy Miranda You Could've Had A Good Thing Going C/w Count Your Teardrops From the same guys who ran that intriguing East Coast label “Sound Of Soul” working out Brooklyn & Queens; Eddie, Robert & John E. Gray produced some fine ground-level Northern Soul in the shape of E. J. Chandler, Sandy Waddy etc. But this is the “Gray” family’s triumph with BOTH sides giving up mighty Northern Soul winners that as of yet have never been re-issued or bootlegged. This 45s genuine rarity has kept it from the “Bad Boys” clutches, whilst it’s reputation has steadily swelled over the decades. Top side is an amazing clone for “Roy Hamilton’s - Cracking Up Over You -” whether that be by design or just a coincidence, the recording shimmers with “Crackin’ Up” similarities making it so readily received by the dancer (not that the crowd ever hear this goodie) again rarity the main cause. Flip it over for a tune that has also been held in high regard by those more dedicated collectors who never stop looking past the obvious, and obviously the Gray’s thought it worthy of an A-Side listing.. again BIg City vocal boomer. BOTH sides are humongous vocal Northern Soul belters whichever one you play. Listen as Billy purrs, snarls & growls his way through both sides with consummate power and calm… so impressive. Two great sides - one extremely highly regarded disc - for obvious reasons Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 433.00 J. J. Barnes Baby, Please Come Back Home C/w Easy Living GROOVESVILLE BABY GROOVESVILLE. Lifted from the legendary 1969 UK Stax album that gave birth to one of Northern Soul’s finest “Sweet Sherry” to this day ranks high of my short list of exit day tune for church. Such was it’s effect on me as a youngster attending “The Cats” Having said that Don Davis’s “Groovesville” production-machine has literally 100s of stand-out soul recordings to it’s credit. The world talks of the “Motown Sound” but Don’s productions also had a unique sound all of it’s own - right up their just behind “Pied Piper” as my preferred “sound Of Detroit”. Before you today are TWO fabulous examples of his work, this time with Detroit-Doyen J. J. Barnes who’s vocal lifts off like a train entering a tunnel, J. J. sounds off a warning of the treat that is with about to overwhelm - flip it over and J. J. again inspires with his sultry take on Melvin Davis’s soul-masterpiece earlier credited to the Holidays.. Two thoroughly tantalizing Detroit-Delight - The Sound of Groovesville nothing much compares.. to it. This 1969 UK DEMO is a sparkling Mint minus throughout.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 151.00 Maestro & Company Featuring Jay Poole I Love You C/w Funky Music (to Spank By) Soul man Jay Poole this time a few miles away from his usual Westchester, Illinois recording haunts, as he aids Maestro & Company on the vocal of this Greenville, South Carolina child. Two very strong soul sides covering two contrasting genres. Topside we lead with is an heavenly soulful stepper, with Angel-like girl-backing lead the way for Jay Poole to penetrate your soul with his exquisite pleading. The subtle unobtrusive backing of gently caressed cymbals, the lovingly blown horns and swirling strings pad the sessions. But just listen to those session ladies - wow they soar up and over the production taking the song and Mr. Poole’s being to another level . KILLER MID-PACED STEPPER! Flip it over and the gang get on up into FUNK mode…as Charles Madison flexes his diverse talents and brings the horns to front with “Kool” styled dance - the girls are still there but in a totally different mood as PMT kicks in and they feel the defiant groove perfectly. Two forceful tunes from two very “in-vogue” rare soul genres of the moment.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 131.00 G. Davis & R. Tyler Hold On Help Is On The Way First spun by the legendary “Cats” DJ Blue Max “Millward” who used it as an introduction to his set before it took off big; achieving a wider appreciation @ Cleethorpes Pier/ Wigan Casino/ St. Ives etc.Today this New Orleans instrumental classic is leading the charge back into the Northern Soul instrumental sound - sparking in the last few months several requests for this oldie..and as if by fate one walks through the door. So the “instrumental NS Sound” is back, after at least two decades of falling completely out of favour, until recently the non-vocal is back in vogue. George Davis & Alvin Red Tyler turn in a masterclass of guitar picking reminiscent of Cal Green Los Angeles sessions as the duo pluck away with a mixture of blues/Jazz & Soul. The horns lifting it to another level.. Memories are made of this and how refreshing to hear it again.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 132.00 -
Soul City Cold Hearted Blues C/w Who So You Think You Are Double helping of angry attitude driven Philadelphia Northern Soul. The sides we lead with is currently making waves throughout the Northern Soul as a DJ choice when the room needs a good shake up! The partnership of Mike Lewis & Stuart Wiener famous with the NS crowd for many 60’s Philly creations..veer slightly off their normally smooth and easy style production with an angry raucous stomper that smacks you in the face ans the lead vocal gravel coated throat growls out the lyrics. But in true Lewis/Wierner style the session is decorated with a high pitch Girl chorus, strengthened by a male vocal-group presence. Blaring horns weld it all together for a sensational slab of proper-Northern Soul that for decades was a neglected flipside. The previous preferred choice for turntable outings was “Who So You Think You Are” which is every note as good (if not better), with an even stronger habitation of vocal group back up. Fabulous bass-vocal supporting girl group shrieks and deafening horns. Two totally audacious recordings dripping strutting arrogance. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL - with a balls! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 234.00 Eddie Daye & The 4 Bars Guess Who Loves You C/w What Am I Gonna Do SHRINE TIME ! A….and a beauty it is too - total vocal group Northern Soul - with Harry Bass again working his magic on another compelling horn-driven Northern Soul dance arrangement littered with vibes and both male & sister harmony back-uo…. THIS IS PERFECT NORTHERN SOUL! Although the a-side is gob-smacking Northern Soul, do not overlook the Deep Soul flip side, with the $4 Bars supporting Mr. Daye’s unwavering distressed pleading. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,614.00 Essence Of Love I Want To Share My Love With You A Eugene Smiley not for the first times offers exceptional & rare Kansas City dance-soul. Upbeat, relentless dance production showcasing a strong n’lively lead vocal chasing a swift string propelled backing track. Some delightful key changes will keep the dancers captivated - fine sax interventions but again the principle pleasing-feature that lifts this track up into “stand-out” is the persistent vocal-group chorus supporting the lyric at ever possible moment. Strong dancefloor with all the ingredients for dancefloor-ignition and it’s rare too Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 168.00 Marvelettes I'll Keep On Holding On C/w No Time For Tears Lovely clean “Factory Sample” British TMG 518 in immaculate condition still living in it’s original birth-sleeve. I’m struggling to find a flaw on this 1965 Motown classic that emerged as a All-Night club dance classic throughout the 60s with the magical-power to still have the same effect 49 years later. Northern Soul classic, Motown girl-group perfection and in the standard of condition that will not require any future upgrading. Vinyl on both sides only reveals light paper-sleeve contact blemishes - and these are not easy to detect. both label & the birth-jacket are immaculate also. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 211.00 Johnnie Hoyle What About Me C/w It Won't Be This Way Always SO RARE! Independent Nashville Northern Soul backed with a sheering aching Deep Soul ballad, with both sides emblazoned with an emphatic sister-vocal - almost recreating a male-falsetto feeling, comfortably cradled by a horn and a subtle hammond arrangement. This is “Real” soul with a beautifully constructed mid-tempo dance stroller, every note as good as any “greats” that sit in this much-loved design. A shuffler of immense quality and style, as she pleads for answer for her neglect. Flip it over and Johnnie displays “hurt” on another level, with an on-your-knees testament of love; again supported by Tennessee horns & hammond. Keni Lewis What's Her Name C/w Drug Traffic The writing talent of Keni Lewis pairs up with an equally impressive wordsmith in the shape of Detroit & New York producer Robert Bateman, a man with a very impressive Northern Soul Curriculum Vitae. Hidden away on a Funky side that enjoyed brief “Mecca” spins from Colin Curtis, is a luscious vocal-group crossover from the “Rambunctious” boys at the controls. Keni contorts his vocal on the intro, as a neat diversion for what is about the unfold. Soothing start is suddenly elevated by an uncredited vocal-group enriching the production with some ultra-smooth harmony cooing & arrhing throughout the a convincing dance arrangement. Stylish in the extreme, just what you’d expect from amigos with such a glittering pedigree. Flip side Bateman draws from the Motor City and Norman Whitfield’s inventiveness with a Temps-esque thumping piece of Funk with the few opening notes ironically “borrowed” neatly from “Get Ready” - maybe? At this moment in time a “Funker” has possibly not been aired since a couple of 70s Saturday nights out in Blackpool. Two strong sides of conflicting genres but spectacularly strong and frustratingly rare! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 188.00 Bobbi Row And The Englishmen Why You'd Put Me On C/w Fact Of Life Put Arthur Wright and Don Julian into the same studio, you have every right to expect something different and infectious. Don Julian, was undoubtedly California’s premier purveyor of the vocal-group soul-sound, crafts a dreamy Northern Soul stroller, with Arthur Wright constructing the plodding backing track. The combination you’ll find is one of those tunes that becomes a Northern Soul ear-worm. Sultry builder bristling with all the creaminess of Don Julian’s “Larks” recordings. To grab a little radio station attention they name Bobbi’s vocal backing boys as “The Englishmen” - personally I’ve never heard any Englishmen who could deliver silky harmony back-up like these guys do.. This listing is for those of you who seek out records you just never see and dripping with level of quality, that I find hard to believe it never sold a bean upon release… Truly beautiful rarity - elusive in the extreme Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 102.00 Tom Green Endless Confusion 1974 British release offering up a spectacular blend of Jazz/Soul/Latin and a pinch of funk. Making it absolutely ideal for today’s ever-changing NS scene that seems to have rooted itself in upfront, harder edged soul-dance grooves of late. This 45 has of course already had some turntable action, several DJ’s have championed it over the decades with great response but never quite going “viral” to become known by the wider audience. That is why we’ve listed it today - with feeling that maybe the last time was not quite the right time - it certainly is bloated with all the ingredients today’s dancers are appreciating.. shrill girls, twangy funk directed guitar work and a sandpapered lead vocal perfectly spewing out the imaginative lyrics… Rarity, would be better describe as very scarce UK ONLY..although it is not as apparently it received an homeland release in the USA on Evolution 1082 but I know of no-one who has a copy.. So if you DJ with a real-cool dance tune - that only seems to be attainable on it’s highly elusive 1974 UK press - then do not pass by - as you may not spy another for quite some time.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 188.00 J. B. Bingham She's Gone C/w Keep On Walking The Los Angeles collaboration between H. B. Barnum and J. B. Bingham gave birth to one of my all time favourite 70s recordings “All Alone By The Telephone” epitomized everything I adore about the 70s anti-disco dance productions. So imagine spending years looking at his other wonderful 45 on United Artists and receiving far-east wants requests for STOCK copy only. Well, the double sided promo was hard enough to find and in fact delivers another finely honed soulful dance tune, that is only nano-beat behind “Telephone” It is no exaggeration I spent decades wondering what the flip would sound like - as for me Barnum & Bingham were such a magical combination. Well, here is a debut for the auction, the STOCK copy with both sides - that I suspect will ignite interest from the land of the “Rising Sun” But I also have a sneaky feeling those SOUL completists, who frequent the corridors of “Soul Essence” could well give them a run for their money… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 113.00 Richard Temple That Beatin' Rhythm C/w Could It Be “You know dancing is a part of life…” Legendary Northern Soul classic from the halcyon days of Wolverampton’s “Catacombs” Club - when avid readers of Blues & Soul would quickly skip past all those artist features, charts etc. As the most-important feature was “The Cats” advert and what wondrous snippets of the clubs latest plays were they displaying? Ironically when the name “Richard Temple” first graced those must-view ads, the word from further up north was there’s was no such artist, it’s a cover-up; named after the street the Club was situated on “Temple Street” Wolverampton, a pilgrimage for growing hoards of the early 70s pre-Wigan Soul-fraternity. Before you today, is in our experience the rarest Mirwood Northern Soul PROMO in near perfect condition. Both labels are flawless, as is the vinyl, except for a couple of extremely light fingernail brushes on the flipside vinyl - obviously not affecting play. A-side vinyl is a wonderful Mint -. The Cats signature tune wearing it’s white-suit and looking irresistible - but do not overlook the supremely soulful mid-tempo flipside - that just oozes class. “Could It Be, that I’m Fooling Myself…. could it be, you gave your love to someone else?” Sorry, this item has already been won! Rotations I Can't Find Her C/w Searching In Vain Stunning.. vocal group dancer that enjoys a strong underground following.. Don’t be fooled by the tinkling minimalistic intro, this tune suddenly changes gear and purrs uphill gathering pace as it goes, from one sublime moment to another. The expressive lead vocal delivers sweet pain as the perfectly fused harmony flirts with the lilting backing track . I’m a real sucker for this style of Northern Soul so please forgive me when I say this really is a tune to get “Over-blown” about. Funk followers may enjoy the “Whitfield” inspired flipside. For me, the streets of Cleveland have given up a vocal-group masterpiece in the form of the “I Can’t Find Her” side…truly awesome. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 456.00 Eddie Burns You Better Cut That Out C/w I Am Leaving This week’s R&B offering is one rare Detroit thumper.. From the man who Motown took under their wings during the early 60s releasing 3 45s on the Harvey label all of which are highly sought after, not just by the Motown archeologists but also by the Northern Soul R&B jocks appreciative of Eddie’s naturally aggressive vocal presence. This example of his work is far, far rarer than his better distributed “Harvey” outings this is Motor City dance-blues from the streets ..born in Virginia Park area of Detroit, an obscure Joe Von Battle project using his own private label. Both sides pump it out - we’ve led with the “You Better Cut It Out” side which carries a mighty-punch; with the flip a little more subtle in it’s approach. Click the double soundfile we think you’ll agree both sides are ripe for NS exposure. Not only is this 45 seriously elusive - it is also in stunning condition, most probably unplayed before being acquired from that “File only” collection. We doubt it would be possible to find a finer copy or indeed discover a more likely winner that has yet to grace those imaginative “no boundaries” R&B sets. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 102.00 Artistics Girl I Need You C/w Glad I Met You A contender fir the greatest vocal-group Northern Soul double sider ever issued in Britain - at this moment I can’t think of a better one. Chicago’s reply to Motown’s male vocal groups, deliver two fabulous 1967 constructed dance tunes. Both sides carry that magically uplifting happiness feel, that only the very best of it’s genre can inspire. This gathering are without question sit in Northern Soul virtual “Hall Of Fame” as most every recording they ever made appeals to it’s followers. This listing will appeal to those of you dedicated not to the British release NS classic but also those committed to upgrading their collection to it’s finest possible summit of perfectness. This PROMO copy is beautiful Mint - in every respect. center hole looks only a passing stranger of the spindle. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 261.00 Patti Austin Leave A Little Love C/w My Lovelight Ain't Gonna Shine No More Rare BLACK STOCKER with the seldom seen BOLD SILVER text..this 45’s rarest and most-attractive format. 16 year old Patti borrows Lulu’s original British Decca recoding, injecting a purity only young girl Soul-Sister of Patti’s high-calibre could hope to deliver. The opening bars drip with teenage pain, then Bert DeCoteaux lifts the rhythm and the atmosphere switches over to an uplifting Northern Soul dancer, with the genius of Henry Jerome’s full orchestra guidance, this Les Reed & Robin Conrad composition floats into another dimension. Flip it over and two of the Soul’s stalwarts join forces to write a plodding horn driven mid-tempo Joey (My Ship Is Coming In) Brooks & Barbara English compose another imprerssive NS stroller. Looks gorgeous, sound fabulous and seldom seen in this eye widening form. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 145.00 Earl Van Dyke 6 By 6 C/w All For You Oh yes totally flawless 1970 Promo that was the very first EMI release on TMG that was sparked off by the then still underground “Northern Soul” scene playing it at the clubs from their treasured 1966 import of SOUL 35028. The influence of Northern Soul in the year 1970 was igniting all manner of “meet-the-demand” releases from all the UK’s major labels. This particular PROMO as all TMG addicts will verify for some inconceivable reason is extremely hard to track down… this copy is factory fresh (if you look closely the shards of gossamer-vinyl are still attached to the spindle-hole) It don’t get no better than that… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 184.00 -
Jessie Davis There's Room For Me Haunting moody Northern Soul benefiting from a that man Arthur Wright stamping his moniker on yet another Northern Soul juggernaut from one of the scenes revered artists. Near every recording Jesse made in Los Angeles during the 60s is a Northern Soul trophy-piece, with his complicated crooning snugly fitting the big production, which on this occasion Arthur Wright builds up to an instrumental break crescendo, crafting just foolproof dancefloor cuisine. SO RARE - I’ve personally not heard this out in the clubs for a few years now… we consider this ripe for relaunch and certain it will draw that appreciated round of applause from the throng, that only truly great tunes receive..especially when no ones expecting to hear it. TOP-DRAWER NORTHERN SOUL.. that rarity has ensured it just ain’t heard enough. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 966.00 Crow Your Autumn Of Tomorrow C/w Uncle Funk So different ! many consider this as the 45 that freed up the floodgates of acceptability, as the envelope of what was “Northern Soul” was pushed wide open. As the minestrone of bold-brass, insanely delivered through a misty veil of Psyche, Funk and innovation creating an incomparable NS floor destroyer… …because when the volume is ramped right-up,..the dancefloor is already in full sway..you can expect only one result.. MAYHEM! The near-anonymous genius of Stan Vincent comes though in an all-powerful wave of undiluted Northern Soul excellence; with no attempt whatsoever at any note appealing to the masses. That’s why this well-respected NS classic still to this day polarizes opinion. My opinion is THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL at it’s most inventive and most-compelling… Flip it over for a FUNK MONSTER !! …what more could a boy ask for? Perhaps some recognition of Stan Vincents plethora of Soul-achievements would be a good starting point. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,020.00 Buck And The Sixteenth Movement Fool, Fool C/w Trust Me This Night Extremely rare vocal-group trophy! We’ll lead with the harmony stroller side (an effortless delicacy, a masterclass of it’s genre) for a D.I.Y. production this carries all the weight of an Impressions or Temptations session. Crisp harmony callings endorses a wonderfully expressive lead.. A killer sweet-ballad of the very highest calibre. Now to move onto the even better flipside, that I envisage as the “Soul Essence” “Saturday afternoon” nominee for the Throne of most Soulful-Dance-Tune; Even though it got brief wider audience as a national release Playboy 6001 but still tough to find. This is a neglected a mid-tempo experience ,that has just blown me away - with it’s highly polished approach to line after line of beseeching lyrics, wrapped in a duvet of strings.. just TOO MUCH …it’s records like this that remind me SOUL is the greatest music on Planet Earth.. especially when it’s an precisely produced street-level session with no intention of using commercial over-production methods that wreck so many major label recordings.. Well if you like them Unicorn-Rare drenched in mythical soulfulness, check out both sides of Raymond Buckner and his crew…they are awesome..with “Fool, Fool” being a Sweet Soul Grail of extreme elusiveness. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 137.00 Just Bobby I'm A Winner An under-the-radar California indie that has flirted with the “Modern” rare soul DJ for many years now and used to be obtainable last centruy.. This century this 45 is seldom it ever seen for sale - upon refreshing my ears, it still ripples with all the qualities I remember buying it for. Dominating Horns make an intrusive entrance blaring the way clear, for an unusual gnarled vocal to catch your attention. Whiskey & tobacco worn vocal chords with a lifetime of tales to tell, is just perfect for a song about a tough life and being determined to become a winner. Jazz & soul influences converge to deliver a fabulous dancefloor experience, flip it over and it’s just what your wishing for - the same vocal serves up a delightfully emotional Soul ballad. The mysterious “Just Bobby” has a voice that you just know has experienced it all… Bobby Montgomery by any chance..? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 322.00 Archie Bell Harder And Harder With the “Beyond Compare” experience of Great Yarmouth’s Soul Essence looming large on the horizon. It’s sleek dance-soul like this that gives you a taste of the style you will be bathing in for 3 days from 11th. 12th. 13th. of April this year. It’s a place where quality of the tune is far more important than rarity, but having said that, many of you will already know this 1981 Philly delicacy was never issued as a 45 in USA. As a UK disc it never gt off the ground, neither did the splendid album it was plucked from. So delight in it’s captivating blend of full orchestra presence with a Jazz/Funk twanging guitar forcing the dance-beat throughout. Producer David Morris Jr. certainly fills the gap left by The Drells absence…. Mood-changing dance soul - very hard to find in this form - and a lasting testament to the 20 years or more of the “Soul Essence” DJ’s have raising the soul-bar right up to and past the ceiling.. Just fabulous ain’t it… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 258.00
