  1. Sonny Jones Sissy Walk Part 1 & 2 Highly elusive New Orleans FUNK from two of the Crescent City’s most prolific purveyors of the genre - Eddie Bocage & Al Scramuzza legends of the New Orleans Soul-Sound serve notice with some heavy, heavy duty FUNK The huge demand for the “Deep Funker” triggered a reissue on “Vampi Soul” erarly this century, whilst leaving this 60s first press original even more sought after, as awareness rose. Today this is still a seldom seen trophy for those of you who only seek to own, first press originals. Street-attitude reverberates throughout this “JB” inspires hammond prompted stroller, with Sonny in dictatorial-mood chanting out the instructions for the dance… “Ain’t It A Groove” Sonny it certainly is ! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 101.00 Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell Two Can Have A Party C/w You're All I Need To Get By This weeks eye-catching TMG rarity covers a flipside that was the cornerstone to every Youth Club disco in the country during the late 60s and early 70s, consequently beckoning 1,000s upon 1000’s of teenagers in a life of Soul-appreciation. The a-side also provided UK Motown with a classic recording from the labels most-loved pairing. Strong sales on the back of these two winners on one disc. But as a perfect condition Green & White DEMO this is one serious collectors piece as unequaled euphoric recall ignites instantly as that immortal intro of zinging string cuts the air.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 186.00 E. J. Rush Stick Tight (to Me) C/w Hole In Your Soul Until recently this crunching double-slab of New York Northern Soul was virtually unknown other than treasured attention from legendary DJ “Mr. Finewine”. For years it was a totally exclusive New York happening, as another two of the world’s TOP RARE SOUL JOCKS the highly-esteemed Big Apple Jocks, who’s sets consistently ripple with the potent style of 60s Soul dance. To underline that both sides are equally impressive DJ Honky plays one side - whilst Manhattan’s “Dig Deeper Club” DJ Mr. Michael Robinson giving the opposite side equally enthusiastic attention. So let, E.J. Rush aka “Paul Sindab” take you on a runaway truck journey as it crashes through all dancefloor barriers delivering goods on a wave of horns and Sindab’s urgent breathtaking vocal. Relentless, persistent and growing stronger every second until it careers into one mighty bass guitar break, whipping up even more dance-enthusiasm. Both sides in the style of the 60s Soul greats; Wilson Pickett, Arthur Conley, Rodger Collins etc. this too is a drop of the proper-stuff…but that’s not all. Flip it over and again Paul Sindab rides bareback over horns, twanging guitars so-expertly, we dare to say “Otis-style”. Tackling the stop-start production by deftly timing his vocal perfectly into the intricate arrangement.. KILLER REAL-DEAL 60s Northern Soul from the heart… delivering not once but twice over. SO FREAKING RARE!! and time it started to rip in the foundations of a few British Clubs too… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 933.00 Dena Barnes If You Ever Walked Out Of My Life C/w Who Am I A celestial vocal, that has taken us all to Heaven and back for over 40 years and it still sounds as enchanting as ever. Undoubtedly considered one of the finest female records ever played, so there is little we can say to elevate it any higher than it already sits… Other than, to mention the sumptuous flipside “Who Am I”, which I’m not alone in thinking is every note as good - and would give the DJ’s who come out in a rash, at the thought of playing the tried and trusted classic, a mighty fine tune to drop the arm on…. This original Detroit ZTSC stamped press is in just impeccable condition.. two totally clean labels and vinyl to match… what’s not to love? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 602.00 Toussaint Mccall Nothing Takes The Place Of You C/w Shimmy CLASSIC 60s SOUL… in by far its rarest form. Toussaint’s biggest selling single in the USA recognized as one of the truly iconic Deep Soul recordings of the 60s; But of course in the UK in 1967, it sold absolutely nothing. Before you today is a listing for the dedicated British rarity collector who seeks the seldom-seen in the finest condition possible. This 45 is certainly all of that, as gleaming Promo still residing in it’s birth-sleeve. Toussaint’s testament to his love is everlasting, featuring in throw-back 60s movies and several TV adverts over the years. It is indeed peerless Deep Soul. In extreme contrast the flipside allows Mr. McCall to brandish his keyboard skills on a hard-hitting Hammond Boo-Ga-Loo groove.. Two great sides - one highly desirable disc. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 116.00 Mike Watson I Dig Your Kind C/w Love Is A Losing Game This week’s weird and wonderful “Foreign” release, is quite stupidly rare on its USA New Orleans original on ETAH but amazingly enjoyed a brief Canada window too. Solid Northern Soul from the NOLA ETAH production team, who filled the arrangement with pumping horns and slamming piano, with Mike’s guttural vocal strutting in typical New Orleans style; backed up by a full but uncredited harmony vocal-group, unsurprisingly it got covered-up as “Willie Tee” when it was first discovered. A strong Northern Soul dancer “Willie Tee” style, with a very aware cult following.. Flip it over to enjoy New Orleans Deep Soul at it’s most fluid. You will be forgiven for likening it to Lee Dorsey in style and delivery; but again that vocal group enrich the session with their silky choruses. This copy is the first we have ever listed - and the condition is impeccable throughout. Looks stunning doesn’t it.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 166.00 Sharpets Lost In The World Of A Dream Vocal/instr Thank heavens those Northern Soul bootleggers were at times, just too darn lazy to provide any quality control measures within their parasitic activities. The bootleg of this fabulous piece of Girl-Group Northern Soul has not only muffled cassette-standard sound quality but also has a plain boring standard text style white and black label. So click the soundfile and let Roger Bass’s rocket you back to the halcyon days the shimmering Girl sound filling the air at the Niters.. This is definitive Girl vocal Northern Soul..presented on one of the most simplistic but at the same fascinating 60s labels ever designed. This copy is in beautiful clean condition, by the way…as you can hear and see. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 313.00 Jimmy Beaumont I Never Loved Her Anyway C/w You Got Too Much Going For You YOUR MISSION IF YOU DECIDE TO ACCEPT IT!! is a BEAT BALLAD HEAVEN undertaking. Today’s challenge is to find a better example of the genre.. then find one that offers BBH twice over… Then find an example in flawless possibly unplayed before the soundfile was lifted..condition. we could of course add to your task by asking for it in RARE STOCK copy form but we feel it’s an impossible assignment to complete as it is… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 234.00 Soul In-pressions Girl Don't Worry C/w Zing Someone Pulled A String RARE SWEET SOUL? A worldwide shout-out to all Sweet-Soul Guru’s provided the information required to ascertain this is not “The Domestic Five” but actually the “Soul In-Pressions” with two fabulous harmony grooves. James Lately’s name which appears on this labels other seriously RARE and highly sought after 45 on the Detroit based Aquarius label The Domestic Five “It’s An Empty World (Without You Girl)” has been black over. Leaving only co-producer Henry Watkins Jr. visible. This is a mislabeling that has caused much confusion in the past, but does not detract from the pure distilled quality that lies in the grooves. This 45 gives up two superior Sweet-Soul-Strollers of note. … click into two meticulously constructed Detroit Sweet Soul rarities… we know you’ll be impressed. Because almost invariably this 45 is only found in street-used condition - this “find” has stunning, full shine Mint - condition surfaces that as you can already appreciate play flawlessly. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 158.00 Cole & The Grandures I Need You C/w Teenage Correl ONCE HEARD NEVER FORGOTTEN is this the ultra-rare Ginger Taylor cover-up! A suitably contagious Chicago vocal-group Northern Soul dancer, that is near “impossible” to acquire, made doubly-difficult by the flipside being considered one of the “Windy City’s” most-wanted Doo-Wop 45 trophies. Top Jock Ginger’s choice is of course the decidedly different mid-tempo that you will be unable to prevent from getting under-your-skin as the “Cole’s” vocal mesmerizes with beseeching nativity, the occasional “crack” in his throaty vocal making his plea even more convincing, with the Grandures response oh so perfected pitched this record will have you slowly but surely hooked. The flip side as we previously mention is highly-prized Doo-Wop shaker, I know very little about USA most-collectable music genre - but I can feel the attraction. Condition is for the ghetto creation, is fine and clean and plays perfect on the “Northern” with only a few very minor surface blemishes NOT affecting play. Flip it over the play surface is vg+ I did detect a few very insignificant light surface clicks in the very background, not detracting from the overall sound in any way..and that insane sax break beats all I’ve heard recently. RAREST OF THE RARE act accordingly Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 714.00 Harry Deal & The Galaxies I Still Love You C/w You're Always On My Mind We were gonna save this 45 for our yearly CHRISTMAS MINTS auction feature; as this PROMO may never have been out of it’s sleeve before today’s sound was lifted. But a year looking at this Northern Soul treasure would have been too long and I would have played it to death in the office - after all this is a spirit lifting masterpiece with a huge feelgood factor.. Totally enchanting tune, immersed so far into its own simplicity that it is nothing short of brilliance! Likened to those other greats that stroll around unhurried like “Matthew Le Tissier” picking precision passes at will. Or Bobby Kline, Frank Howard, Al McCarther none of those 3 were great footballers but they certainly knew how to calmly amble around never breaking into sweat but triggering a huge shift in mood and atmosphere. This underlines that age-old saying “simple is genius” Not overlooking the fact that that magnificent “Rugby All Niter” reverberated to the flipside “You’re Always On My Mind” courtesy of “outside The Box” DJing by Phil Shields. … two great sides underlining, those suck-slowly “Manship Mints” are not only for Christmas.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 197.00 Dynamics Whenever I'm Without You C/w Love To A Guy I hadn’t heard this 45 for quite some time, but dug it out as a few inquires for the titles availability started to come in, this triggered me to dig. Then I immediately recognized what the “buzz” was all about… Whilst maybe in the last century it would have been consider a fabulous floater but not a dancefloor bomb! But today it is just perfect for crowd .. as sounds like The Stoppers, The Rays, are on the comeback trail ..this title too has all the quality and charm to snugly sits in those so styled sets. Truly beautifully constructed, sumptuous vocals embroidered into a Joe Hunter arrangement gives up a most impressive mid-pacer decorated with magical trumpet interventions. CLASS! and full marks to those DJs endorsing this slick-style of Northern Soul..but then again I am drenched in bias.. This copy by the way is flawless !! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 190.00 Baby Washington Get A Hold Of Myself C/w Hurt So Bad It is quite some mystery why this 1968 45 never achieved a USA release, amazingly British only press. Even more puzzling is the fact not a single track from her highly regarded VEEP album “With You In Mind” realized life as a 45. Only these two album tracks, both of which are stunning Henry Glover, New York conceived Northern Soul beauties, enjoyed a 7” press, in the UK only. So click the oh-so powerful sound-files, to unleash two booming Sister stompers carrying with them, huge presence. They may call Jeanette Washington, “Baby” but as you are about to witness there is absolutely nothing “Baby” about this Divas vocal prowess. Championed by Richard Searling for decades, as are some of the album tracks…but still it is time that everyone worldwide heard these jewels, that USA United Artists completely passed over.. Top Drawer British release Northern Soul - in flawless condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 100.00 Del Chontays Baby I Need You C/w The Hustle It’s been over two decades or more since this 45 turned up, as tiny handful discovery, causing a minor sensation, as it was Butch’s “STARTONES” cover-up at the time circa The Mello Souls era. The soul collecting world couldn’t believe that records of this quality had been left undiscovered throughout the Wigan Casino, Blackpool Mecca & Cleethorpres Pier era and for it to become available to mere mortals was a huge surprise. Aghast at the thought of what the effect such Northern Soul perfectness would have been at the 3 major “temples” of the time. Unfortunately, late 80s & early 90s was not such a fertile time for breaking new “finds” to the masses; so this rough-edged vocal-group stomper, instead slipped underground for more front-room or cassette tape appreciation as Butch “dropped” his secret sound. I think now is the time for this pumping horn driven screamer to breakout into the now burgeoning Northern Soul scene. This is the real-deal, proper relentless rarity with every note offering Northern Soul in its rawest form. Having slept, snooze, slumbered away into barstool conversations, forum musings for way too long now. Time it got heard at a large venue in full swing at midnight - not a Northern Soul heart would leave the floor.. A 45 who’s siesta is over… especially as the flipside is an equally bombastic instrumental that would set clubs like “Dig Deeper” in Manhattan all as frenzy… Two killer sides - get on it….. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 462.00
  2. odd i've just had an email with detroit sounds of friction for sale for £2250 https://www.rarenorthernsoul.com/
  3. Eddie Parker I'm Gone C/w Crying Clown Another MINT heartstopper from the Elephant’s graveyard of unplayed Northern Soul Monsters, comes this NS masterpiece - in the same exact condition as the day it was made, never fully leaving it’s birth-sleeve! Record collecting does not come anymore challenging than this. A dangerously exciting artifact of incalculable importance, that most-all consider as the greatest Northern Soul record ever made, but a few would argue the flipside is even better! In 2015 to even dream of acquiring this dancefloor Leviathan of Northern Soul is somewhat a forlorn hope - but a MINT unplayed copy condition, it would be considered just naive totally hopeless wishful-thinking. Act accordingly not only to own the Greatest Northern Soul 45s ever - but also the one in the finest condition on Planet Earth. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 12,023.00 Cookie Woodson I'll Be True The insanely difficult to acquire female version of the Virgil Henry masterpiece, that is only available on this the stock copy - that seems to have been used as a promo for a last gasp attempt for glean some Radio Station interest in the other side the much recorded Jerry Goffin & Carole King “I Can’t Hear You” which for 70s recording sounds far too dated…so understandably failed miserably. So let’s get back to the masterpiece that lay on the “passed over” flipside. Which had to have come from a special place, that special place was the office of three highly talented writers, Richie Adams, Mark Barkan & Jerry Ross originally given to “Colossus” in house Soulman Virgil Henry who served up a staggeringly soulful groove to lift this label off the ground. Some 46 releases later the composition was handed over to Miss Cookie to create a flipside, and a Northern Soul Trophy was born..as commercially it sold “nothing” underlined by the fact this actual copy is the ONLY copy we have ever had for sale. So click away to hear what Soulful Dance Northern Soul sounds like, as an “impossible” acquisition. Sooooooo stunningly good… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 464.00 Martha Reeves & The Vandellas Show Me The Way C/w Honey Chile It has to be said that many of Tamla Motown’s greatest offerings to the British Northern Soul scene have started their lives as B- sides. This example is one of the finer TMG dance tunes the NS foragers uncovered on the flip of a very minor hit for Martha and the girls. “Show Me The way” is pure Northern Soul with very little commercial frills to attract the general public, thus relegated as a flip. But what it does simmer with is, the recently incorporated influences of the down-the-road rival Ric-Tic Records. Richard “Please Let Me In” “Real Humdinger” Morris, J. J. Barnes & the prolific Sylvia Moy join forces to craft this catchy tune. An attention grabbing dancefloor winner with it’s relentless rattling guitar and drum rhythm. Martha’s vocal was at it’s peak, The Vandellas as “sweet” as ever throughout this magnificent Motown dancer - retrieved from the wilderness of “flipside” obscurity. This 1967 Green & White DEMO is by far and away it’s most desirable form, especially in this utterly flawless condition! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 208.00 Linda Jones I Just Can't Life My Life C/w My Heart (will Understand) Apparently truly great records, you can recall exactly what you were doing, who with and where you first heard it. Well, that’s what hardened Barry White fans declare…. Although I was fully clothed at the time, Pre-Wigan, on one of the Melton Piemen’s Saturday outings to The Blackppol Mecca we heard why at the time “The Mecca” was considered the Northern Soul destination of choice, where Colin Curtis & Ian Levine broke new ground with some exceptional “finds”. How diverse was the scene at that time 1972, when I just stopped negotiating my purchase of Hugo Montenegro - instrumental version of The Four Seasons “Sherry”( heard only minutes before) but the King of The British NS vinyl Steve Glover was far too expensive at £3. This awesome tune hit the air - an ear-catching Harp stroking intro - ooh “The Present - Many’s The Slip” I do like the distinct sound of the Harp - but then a voice from heaven boomed through the enthralling start… Wow! Who was this with a voice that one second was purring like a kitten, the next destroying ear drums and ripping to shreds the listeners hearts. LINDA JONES soon to be heralded as the greatest female Soul vocalist of the last century, sadly died young, leaving the Soul fans everywhere wondering what she would have achieved. Before you today is her most-wanted Northern Soul offering - in condition you rarely see, I’ve lost count of the understandable turntable weary copies we have had through our hands over the last 45 years - but MINT minus in it’s company sleeve in 2015, now that’s a prize! Let’s face it - this is a 45 many would play at least once a day - in fact both sides will be considered the finest of their genre for maybe centuries to come - because when will we encountered a vocal of this calibre again - condition conscious collectors - when will you see a copy not suffering from that loving fatigue of the stylus..? The unassailable legacy of Linda Jones - the world’s great female Soul singer with her incomparable Northern Soul offering… a must own! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 362.00 Eddie Holman I Surrender A listing for those of you who appreciate not only irreproachable condition but also the beauty of the USA WHITE PROMO copy inside it’s birth-sleeve. From the same source as many recent flawless auction listings - this the very affordable end of Northern Soul collecting, but we could not bring ourselves to just “Set-Sale”. That will please most - as at the moment this classic-NS-tune is enjoying a huge turntable renaissance, filling floors countrywide. So those of you with children to feed, wives to shod, dogs to shampoo.. here’s a killer piece of much-loved Philadelphia Northern Soul in it’s rarely seen format and in condition that can only rise in value.. Flawless and gorgeous…it is too. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 261.00 Baby Washington I Can't Wait Until I See My Baby Carefully scrutinizing this UK vision Soul-Art - I believe it’s the finest copy I’ve personally experienced in memory; I’m thinking we could even be the first to play it.. only 50 years of filing and the occasional minuscule sleeve contact hairline blemish in strong light, only just rules out the rarely seen MINT grade. Still snugly hugging the original SUE sleeve and both labels baring no sign of spindle contact - this truly is SUE perfection. So listen to this Big Apple Angel sing Chip Taylor & Norman Meade much recorded Soul Standard. Such an infectious tune, some of Soul greats have took it to their heart - Aretha Franklin to name but one.. So not only a peerless piece of British Soul collecting but also a song ingrained in every Soul Boy / Soul Girl’s lives. Unbeatable condition - Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 164.00 Tams It's All Right (you're Just In Love) C/w You Lied To Your Daddy Few, if anyone asked what Northern Soul 45s by the “The Tams” do you like would ever come up with this title. After 50 years as an overlooked flipside, we feel this listing may trigger a DJ alert, that would inspire a spin or two for those DJ’s in love with the British Red & White DEMO. Turntable wars between Sean Chapman and Nige Brown jump to mind, not only because this Red & White Demo would look glorious, spinning around, viewed on one of those big screen turntable cams. But don’t we all love something fresh whilst those “Twisted Wheel” times are revisited.. We are certainly not suggesting it was played at “The Wheel” even those pioneers may have not appreciated just how good it is..and stuck with the a-side. What we are suggesting is, this 45 is far too infectious and far to gorgeous to be passed over for another 50 years… Click the soundfile and just like me - you will be not only visually hogtied but musically too… as that simple simple piano intro opens up for Charles Pope’s gravel-coated vocal, will have you unable to slip its grip, as the piano returns every time at dead the right time! btw; this 1964 Red n’ White DEMO is flawless! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 105.00 Eula Cooper Standing By Love C/w I Need You More Not many publicly admit private fetishes - but if you stand around any Northern Soul record room, you will clearly hear the grunt, groans and squeals of those vinyl-flickers who suffer from the “Yellow Label” predilection. An understandable penchant in this case, as this is the rare FIRST PRESS of the much commoner and utterly mundane “white” label 2nd. press. Musically moving, vocally imploring, as the young-girl vocal of this Atlanta Soul Princess has never sounded more stricken and beseeching. Under the guidance of Bill Patterson Eula conveys her exquisite sweet-pain so convincingly. BOTH SIDES benefit from the Muscle Shoals Sound, plus Atlantic Records coached Wade Marcus directing the lush strings..why this record is not permanently on the lips of the Rare Soul connoisseurs is a mystery, as both sides give up pure-undiluted Sister-Soul of the highest standard. May we mention, in this original form and in flawless condition this is one very elusive first press - offering up two killer tunes! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 187.00 Fabulous Play Mates Don't Turn Your Back ( On Loving ) Long standing top-want for all who are enamored by rare street-level 70s & 80s Soulful dance. An era when some of the Soul Music’s greatest songs were crafted by D.I.Y. writers / producers on tiny budgets, choosing neighborhood artists to perform their craft. None more so than the Bay Area genius Harold Andrews his output through the 60s/70s & 80s was consistently impressive. The Inticers, Othello Robertson, himself as H. Andrews, and this “The Fabulous Play Mates” his memorable contribution to the Rare Soul collectors scene. This rarity maybe a 1985 project but listen how it avoids the crass disco influences of the period. As highly-pitched backing vocals light the way for a cultured male lead vocal to deliver silky soulful lyrics; but those backing girls & boys elevate this session even higher, as no doubt the skilled Mr. Andrews demands his team to push-the-boundaries, delivering shrill inventive choruses… Altogether dazzling soulful dance capped off with a subtle trumpet solo instrumental break.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 617.00 Bobby Day And The Nature Boys I Don't Need No Information Check this out - most may never have heard this hidden gem before.. you’re in for a treat. After Bobby Day’s initial chart & writing success of the late 50s & early 60’s chart more chart success eluded him. A brief spell as the original “Bob” in the “Bob & Earl” duo proved fruitless, even with his gift for lyrics, this artist struggled to gain anymore more of the recognition; that “Rockin Robin” & “Little Bitty Pretty One” brought him. So enter this inconceivably RARE Los Angeles 45; for some “Northern Soul Respect”; from the autumn of 1965 this record too, passed everyone by unnoticed, as it lay obscured on the flipside of a rather ordinary disjointed recording with “corny” lyrics. But beware, this mostly unknown flipside will claw its way under your skin, by way of a relentless “Don’t It Make You Feel Funky” guitar persistently twanging away in the background as a mistrusting Bobby Byrd vocal compliments the grinding arrangement with a swiping rebellious response. RARE!! ANGRY and shimmering with potential Monster qualities. Adventurous DJ’s do not pass by.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 412.00 Chalfontes He Loves Me C/w Confessin' My Love To You One of those Northern Soul timeless classics that used to suffer from oldies DJ’s neglect. But that trend has begun to to turn, as the search for the brilliant underplayed classics that rammed the club floors in the early 70s is on. In recent times records like Johnny Howard’s - The Chase Is On - is the perfect example of how overlooked and even reissued classics can rise to hit the same heights of popularity they once enjoyed. What an appropriate example this Detroit double hitter is, as Sonny Sanders and Dynamic Hitbound Productions craft perfect Sister-Northern Soul from the first very first note. The relentless beat, delivers the perfect 4 beats to the bar for the NS dancer to immerse themselves in. Add a discreet Mike Terry baritone sax, shrill teammates echoing the chorus, a Motor City instrumental break incorporating a Motown-inspired wailing-sax and then Mike Terry comes forward again to enrich & prompt the arrangement. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL!! Darn good Northern Soul too, that is so pleasing to see on the comeback trail.. But this rarity (as a gleaming Red Stock Copy) is not one-trick Michigan-Pony - flip it over and wham the same team hit you up with everything the topside did, but at a slightly slower pace… Two great sides…. to ease the tedium of “same old - same old” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 357.00 Jerry Williams If You Ask Me (because I Love You) There are classics and there are classics! This homage to Jerry’s wife “Yvonne” stirred more young-hearts into action during the early 70s than any other - in my humble opinion this Northern Soul 45 nailed more people to a life of nocturnal drug-fueled gymnastic weekends, than any other you care to mention. So vastly different to any other Northern Soul 45, so much loved, that even today it induces full bouts of “singing” from a pack dance floor as every single indelible word is carved in our memory. Even after near 45 years since it’s first discovery (strangely as the Spanish “Exit” label release.) Before you today is a fine flawless original 1966 mix PROMO. Looking so very inviting… but first let us click the soundfile & SING! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 211.00 Gwen Davis My Man Don't Think I Know One of Nashville’s most prolific Soul-Lyricists Allen Orange again crafts a thumpin’ slab of 60s Dance Soul. Whilst John Richberg’s staff blend street Blues & aching Soul perfectly into a bulldozing R&B flavoured Northern Soul groove; One that has been sought-after and highly effective-dancefloor destroyer for 3 decades or more Like most all the John Richberg productions, the former housebreaking DJ relies upon blaring horns (usually directed by Bergen White) to enrich the session. This examples just booms with brass as they try to match up to Gwen’s “Big Mama” vocal. The lady digs deep with a defiantly bold delivery, as her man is “caught in a lie”. Squealing girls come to her aid, and those horns grows louder. Potent stuff indeed and Richberg’s team picked dead-the-right lady to lay it down! Fabulous and highly elusive Northern Soul that fits right into what’s filling the floors today - lady’s with balls! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 232.00 Berganees 'cause I Love You C/w Time Is Gonna Change Sweet Soul aficionados you are about to be treated to a double helping of D.I.Y. neighborhood harmony of the obscurest possible beginnings. Arthur Leggin was the driving force behind this double-serving of natural from-the-heart sessions, with the accent being on crafting on-your-knees pleading Soul presumably aimed at their own enjoyment or local fans, as neither sides offers up a single note of commercial intentions. Exactly as the true rare-soul collector likes it. Sweet Soul does not get any rarer, obscurer or more deliberate than this.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 70.00
  4. steve thomas bought him over to bangor north wales for an appearance, might have photos etc , steve,s on soulsource, john was very good imo we had a great night.
  5. Ja Neen Henry Baby Boy C/w Love Is What You Make It Surely, this 100% Detroit Northern Soul sleeper has snoozed for far too long - well nearly 5 decades with never really breaking into the hearts of the NS masses, seems way too long to me. With Dale Warren and Andre Williams collaborating, to rework the original Golden World NS classic by Juanita Williams. Dale & Andre dispense with the lush strings, replacing them with triumphantly meaty trumpets on the intro. Then Ja Neen (aka Andrea) Henry’s vocal slips into place, riding a wave of shrill girl-group backing and a rattling piano slaps. An impressive horn instrumental break, featuring (if I’m not mistaken) Sax-God Mike Terry burping his signature low-blow baritone to great effect..then his saxophone rising up Motown style towards the ends. This take is not as sugary as the original version, which was also fabulously constructed in the true Motown Style of the time.. This Blue Rock weighty rendition does it for me, but then again I’m totally biased, as I cannot think of any record featuring Mike Terry sax-work, that I’m not utterly enamored with. Flip it over, and you’re treated to a Van McCoy NS dancer - not in the same calibre as “Baby Boy” but a darn welcome bonus to this superbly clean Mint - PROMO! May we add, this record is rarely if ever experienced in this flawless state. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 358.00 Sir Charles Hughes & The Village Choir Sweet Hot Lips I always wished the 3.00 minute 45rpm 7” version of this deliciously Soulful Dance journey would never end. Obviously Sir Charles Hughes felt the same as me, left yearning for more “Sweet Hot Lips. This lengthened and uplifted 4:47 12” version with the bewitching instrumental break… is awesome. Village Chior such an highly gifted gathering, who never seem to stretch or strain in their passion to serve up the ultimate Soul Groove. This is near 5 minutes of Soul-Perfection decorated with cooling horns and an highly accomplished jazz guitarist elevating the session to greatness. 3.00 had me begging for more - near 5 minutes almost satisfies…but records of this style make me insatiable…just can’t get enough. This limited 12” press is in pristine flawless condition.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 188.00 Bid on Don't Turn Your Back ( On Loving ) Carl Douglas Serving A Sentence Of Life An highly respected member of that exclusive club of BRITISH ONLY release 45s. That tick all the Northern Soul quality control boxes. Totally RARE Darn fantastic Northern Soul A validated vintage classic and a beautiful head-turner into the bargain But there’s always a reason for some of these Brit-Exclusives capturing the very essence of Norhern Soul - the catalyst in this case being Pierre Tubbs. Pierre collaborated in the studio with the likes of Sidney Barnes, J. L. Jackson etc. Now there’s a pairing that crafted some truly awesome Northern Soul classics. So two years later after rubbing shoulders with the greats of our music, Pierre Tubbs brought traces of New York Soul to the UK giving the then raw 26 year old Jamaican Carl Douglas the job of belting out his fine vocal through, this horn-riddled Northern Soul masterpiece. Huge tune at The Torch, Cats, Blackpool Mecca, pre-Wigan Casino’s birth and another lasting legacy for the relentless British crate-digging troops who left no stone unturned in the exploration for the “next” tune. Oh Boy, whoever first discovered this killer - must have leaped for joy all the way home… Before you today is a fine clean copy, tiny discreet X on label is it’s only flaw. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 392.00 Sidney Barnes I Hurt On The Other Side Having earlier mentioned the influence Sidney Barnes had and still has on the Northern Soul scene, we thought let’s list an example of this man’s extreme talent of serving up memorable 60s dance-Soul. This 45 is considered his finest & certainly most-wanted. A record that Capitol picked up on, for Arthur Wright to get his teeth into; in true Arthur style he totally beefed it up. With Capitol behind it achieved not only very minor sales but also it’s wider availability provided the Northern Soul scene with the copies that turned it into a Torch, Mecca, Cataombs, Leeds Central, pre-Wigan NS Monster.. This, the original version is a totally different story - sold nothing on release; in fact an excruciating rarity as the stock copy, a mythical 45 (never seen in the flesh as the Red Bird press) leaving the extremely elusive PROMO in front of you as the only realistic route to secure a copy. So much more subtle than the brazen Jerry Cook take,so subtle, polished with classy girls cooing & oohing at every opportunity - this is classy, classy Northern Soul that other the brief 70’s Charley records re-issue, has never been bootlegged.. Trophy-piece NS classic with two flawless labels - the vinyl has a few very light surface marks but as you can see and hear it does NOT affect play. Proud ownership await Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 651.00 Audrey Riley Love Can't Live In Chains In the time when the soulful Sister vocal has never been more appreciated, we thought this virtual “unknown” Soulful dancer would cause some interest and fit neatly into some of the more “upfront” DJ sets. A 1977 indie that offers up very little information for the reviewing to build on; both the arranger, writer & producer, like the singer herself are utterly obscure names. But boy does the gathering craft a mean tune. So check out this guitar driven groove that starts upbeat and feverish but like a tortured-carousel ride, this soulful plea rises and falls on a wave of strings and cooing Sisters, but always picking up the beat to keep this soulful stroller going… ideal Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 228.00 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles Come Spy With Me C/w More Love Very seldom did British EMI mess around with a release, once it went to press, but TMG 614 was an exception to the rule. Why an executive decision was made to immediately withdrawn the first press with “Come Spy With Me” on the flipside and replace it with “Swept For You Baby” is baffling, but created a very elusive 45 for the TMG completer to pursue. This copy is in tip-top condition with two flawless labels, two vinyls which are strong clean Mint minus, only revealing the merest surface sleeve contact blemish under focused scrutiny. This is a beauty and no TMG collection can ever be considered finished without its capture. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 112.00 Sugar Simone Suddenly C/w King Without A Throne Without question one of the very hardest numbers in this most coveted of label series to snare. Again, condition is nothing short of miraculous, even the center hole seems to have enjoyed a life of celibacy, as the center spindle hole required a little firm encouragement to push through. This could have been an unplayed copy before making our acquaintance. Sugar draws inspiration from New York’s Brill Building with this fine Dritersesque recording, a mid-tempo dancer scattered with Ben E. King flavourings. Written & produced by himself “Keith Foster” aka Tito Simon this Jamaican Soulman certainly delivers it real… as is proved on the flipside… as Sugar Simone plumbs the depth of despair with a Deep Soul ballad any of the his USA Southern Soul counterparts would have been proud of.. Both sides worthy of the label, both sides offering fabulous examples of their genre on a platter that could not turn up in finer condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00 Bid on My Man Don't Think I Know Trini Lopez Sinner Not A Saint Killer R&B Northern Soul shaker that has become very popular with the dancefloor in recent times. A relentless rattling piano is the key component that lifts this session above the norm, as the effervescent Trini swing into action blending Jazz/R&B/R&R into a compelling dance tune you just cannot ignore. Flawless condition is the main reason for this going to auction, this eye-catching 1964 original Dutch release, comes complete with the original picture sleeve, snugly housing a pristine Stateside 45. Looks gorgeous doesn’t it.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 104.00 Sam Moultrie I'll Always Love You C/w Do Your Own Thing How damn good does this beauty sound today, after avoiding the Oldies DJ overkill, that sadly so often taints a “Classics” kudos. A listing for those many Northern Soul collectors, who relentlessly hunt down the rarest variations of the NS classics"‰–"‰here’s a seldom-seen example with blue & white logo. Instead of the straight black label with silver text. (So elusive!) I remember this tune breaking at Cleethorpes Pier 1975-ish the same night a car full of us traveled up the coast, listening to it on a C90 cassette, that just happened to have Willie Hutch’s “Love Runs Out” as the next song. Fabulous piece of NS Dovetailing for tape-flow. Low and behold, not long inside the Pier, and it got played. Soul Sam sending my ears a glossy shade of “Pea-Green”. On the way home we all knew the words to both the standout tunes on that C90 and sung them at the top of our voices.. a rather unpleasant experience if you sat next to “Spanner”. This seldom seen variation is a flawless copy, looking good in it’s rarest outfit - take a listen to a fabulous underplayed groove that will, like it did me rekindle some euphoric NS recall. PS FUNK fans will be impressed with the flipside - a right good “Hunk-Of-Funk” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 159.00 Diddys Featuring Paige Douglas Agony And Extasy Ludicrously RARE 70s Philly D.I.Y. album from the desk of Charles Earland; offering up not 1 but numerous ALBUM ONLY soulful dance tracks of the calbre you’ve come to expect from this conveyor of all that is fine when it comes to Philly Jazz or Soul, on this platter he blends both perfectly. Vocally impressive with the little known Paige Douglas flexing her stunning vocal through precise dance arrangements littered with occasional glimpes of Charles Earland skill with the sax and keyboard. So check out the tracks of this album we have selected for your critique - we think you’ll be mightily impressed - DJ’s cannot fail with these instantaneous movers at their fingertips - we did not have space for the soulful ballad soundfiles but they are just as riveting. Two labels and both sides of the vinyl are flawless - cover is free of writing, stains or tears but does suffer from a a top-seam split. Which we can professionally repair F.O.C. if the winner so wishes. RARE ALBUMS don’t come much more notable than this rarity, I’m absorbed Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 265.00 Ronnie Forte That Was Whiskey Talkin' C/w Nervous Breakdown A brief 1977 exclusive 45 for Mary Chapman, Queen of Cleethorpes claim for her young soldiers; who not only made “Whiskey Talkin” a monster in it’s time but equally the “Nervous Breakdown” side ploughed a furrow or two on that hallowed dancefloor. Back then it actually mattered not which side you dropped the needle on..both sparked the same response. Those prolific Northern Soul bootleggers however, were only able to lift a poor quality sound from a cassette tape of the “Whiskey Talkin” side leaving the original still highly desirable for its uncompromising booming sound quality and the ” “Nervous Breakdown” side never got bootlegged at all… Two great sides that validated The Pier & The Winter Gardens yet again with tunes born on the North Sea… today this euphoric original copy sounds doubly-right for a belated NS revival… and a Cleethorpes euphoric recall Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 362.00 Leah Dawson & Choker Campbell & Magic City Orchestra My Mechanical Man A listing for those many of you who appreciate the historical, the unusual and conversation pieces that make the rich Northern Soul tapestry so very interesting. I was immediately attracted to this “Test Press”, covered in vital handwritten information and showing the full artist credits that never completely made it into print on the “Gold” original first press. Dripping in Motor City provenance and unleashing an early “Torch” dancefloor favourite that led to an horrid 1972 poor fidelity WHITE PROMO counterfeit, that sadly at the time stopped it’s progress in the coveted Northern Soul “Classic Hall Of Fame” realms. I think it looks great, I also think after hearing how good is it, again; it has gotta be a candidate for an inspired NS Revival spin - “Mechanical Man” is after all way, way too good to be ignored..and this unique example of it looks so cool doesn’t it… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 110.00 on I Just Can't Life My Life C/w My Heart (will Understand) Liz Lands And The Temptations Midnight Johnny C/w Keep Me WOW ! Condition, Condition, Condition. 50 years old and we think our auction vinyl processor was most likely the first person to play it. Stunningly flawless, other than the X and received date MARCH 12 1964 on the flipside label, this fabulous example of Motown Northern Soul is perfect! What a refreshing experience listening to this 45, as both sides are so untypically Motown. “Midnight Johnny” the side favoured by the Northern Soul & Popcorn fans sees Gospel Diva Liz, like a “Soulful” Kate Bush, wail hauntingly away as her vocal glides on a raft of shrill girl group choruses. So very unique in it’s make up, but pushed even further into the “Twilight Zone” by the unconventional use of the serpent-mesmerizing styled clarinet, at an unexpected time. Flip it over - for a meaty piano assisted Beat Ballad you’ll find invading you head, as again Liz turns in a “from the heart” performance assisted by a dreamy harmony backup by The Temptations and an uncredited gathering of girls. Group harmony vocal fans, this is Motown pure “Soul” at it’s finest. If your seeking, the elusive vinyl perfection whilst buying Rare-Soul, Northern or Motown …look no further! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 131.00 Mary Stallings C/w Hewitt & Company You Gotta Git C/w Lame Duck You have more chance of you hearing The Queen trump during her Christmas Day speech, than finding this 45 Mint minus condition. Farcically RARE, Lonnie Hewitt Oakland, California project with San Francisco’s highly regarded Jazz Diva. The prolific Mr. Hewitt manages to fuse R&B, Soul and Jazz into one juggernaut of a stomper, elevated into another league by Miss Stallings undeniable gift for delivering tongue-twisting lyrics without pause or stall, so powerfully it demands “Northern Soul Dance” Classy, classy Northern Soul backed up with a fine Jazz instrumental twist on the session, as a rattling piano steps up in place of the vocal. The presence of Stallings as the singer, seems to have drawn in the Bay Areas most talented jazz musicians as this vocal-free rendition stands up to Cal Tjader, Ramsey Lewis standard scrutiny. As we stated at the beginning, even getting a whiff of this rarity in any condition, is pretty remote… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 83.00 Jessie Davis There's Room For Me Legendary Los Angeles Northern Soul from a man who is no stranger to the superior 60s dance offering. With his “Gonna Hang On In There” held in very high regard by NS aficionados. Here’s his even rare most-wanted 45. The celebrated gifts of Arthur Wright are evident as he guides Jessie through another of his signature full orchestra driven productions, perfectly matched with the artists cultured vocal. In true “Wright” style a backing of blaring horns provide the perfect surroundings for a troop of strident girls to unleash shrill choruses against a bank of zippy strings layering even more oomph into this huge production. Totally classy session carrying an irresistblely smooth richness, we have begun to expect from these two talented characters of the 60s Los Angeles Soul scene. Near impossible to secure in this flawless condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 813.00
  6. Doni Burdick Bari Track C/w I Have Faith In You It’s a good job Inspector Charles Dreyfus doesn’t collect Northern Soul and Inspector Clouseau was the proud owner of the “Bari Track”, just imagine the jealousy and the uncontrollable twitch it would ignite… As this disc epitomizes what Northern Soul is all about, offering up not one but two sides considered the very finest examples of their style. Firstly “BARI TRACK” is recognized as THE Northern Soul instrumental anthem as Sax-God Mike Terry struts his low-blow saxophone that no vocal could surpass - flip it over and you are hit by one of the GREATEST NORTHERN SOUL RECORDS ever made… “I want, I need “The Bari Track” and all costs - why should an idiot like Clouseau have one and a genius like me .. not” Charles Dreyfus 2014 Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 742.00 Milton Wright I Belong To You C/w Like A Rolling Stone The very limited 70s edition, with a vocal laid over Milton Wright’s “The Gallop” has really took off in recent times and now detonates the “Park Your Drink And Dash” to the dancefloor. It’s a MONSTER crowd-pleaser! With the bonus of a sumptuously soulful Crossover offering on flipside, which is also receiving similar attention at those “snooty” utterly Soulful events I like attending.. Two fab sides - immaculate condition throughout - and darn tricky to capture! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 462.00 Joey Delorenzo Wake Up To The Sunshine Girl The hideously elusive ORIGINAL of this potent crowd pleaser. A monster dancefloor detonator for High-calibre DJ’s like Ginger Taylor, Kenny Burrell and Co. who’s main aim is to create an atmosphere and get the rooms rockin’. The intro leaves nothing to chance, zinging strings swipe back and forth, rhythmic bass guitar sparks the senses as it grows louder. Then in comes that impressive vocal booming out uplifting lyrics and then a persuasive instrumental break at dead-the-right time! THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL! Micheal Valvano siphons off every last drop of his plentiful Detroit experience, to create an truly exciting session, with the power to command a dancefloor to swell and the In-House-Energy to lift. Ginger Taylor is without question a DJ who can ignite the masses with his timely turntable picks.. this example he fully knows will rescue any drift in enthusiasm, pulling a set right back in line.. keeping the mood HOT! Proper feelgood Northern Soul and extremely hard to acquire as this the genuine, labels the correct way round - ORIGINAL. This copy has some light surface marks but as you hear it plays loud & clean.. couple of light clicks on the quieter intro. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 902.00 T & T Something On My Mind Small town Massachusetts delivers fabulously soulful independent dancer, that has been highly in-demand for most of this century.. due to plays from the likes of Mick H. etc. All the top jocks who drop the arm on this is rarity are guaranteed that the instantaneously impressive intro with keep the floor moving; Jazzy jangling guitar collides with an expressive Sister vocal, add the horns, the hammond then whisk up a lengthy sax solo and you have a stunning Soulful dancer that just never relents. Strong tune and you can see why it rocketed from it’s humble beginnings up to the in-demand disc it is today. This copy has light surface marks, none of which show on the stylus. Plays EX+ visually vg+ Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 244.00 Jimmy Thomas The Beautiful Night C/w Above A Whisper One the seldom seen British Soul collectors Grails.. And condition is blinding - what more could you ask for? Well you could ask for this 45 to be British ONLY - well it is. You could hope the flipside to be just as brilliant as the Northern Soul classic A-side - it is not - I personally think “Above A Whisper” is far BETTER! Both sides written & produced by the seasoned Ike & Tina Turn Revue member Jimmy Thomas himself. And so darn elusive it was thought to be DEMO only for many years until a STOCK copy unexpectedly turned up. This is top-of-the-tree British Soul collecting not just for rarities sake but also for the kudos it carried as Tony Banks, Leeds Central’s most-coveted 70s All Nighter spin. But also in more recent times when the flip became better known - it too became considered one of the very greatest recordings of it’s genre.. BEAT BALLAD HEAVEN it certainly is. Two mighty, mighty sides in impeccable condition and saturated in Northern Soul history - what more could you ask for? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 300.00 Michelle & The Mademoiselles He's A Wrong-no. Do you strive to own the Unicorn-Rare vinyl - is it maybe your quest to own the 45s, hardly anyone else on the Planet-Earth can lay claim to owning? Well right now you are looking at a Northern Soul recording that fits into that category perfectly. The impressive label credits reveal the “Page Brothers” both Billy & Gene at the helm of this 1967 Los Angeles “impossible” “The IN Crowd” Bros create total Northern Soul with a “vibe” driven dancer featuring a relentless bass guitar rhythm and a persistent saxophone pumping its way towards an impressive solo.. Why this is 45 is ludicrously RARE when these two gifted brothers were involved is something of a mystery - but something in the back of my mind tells me “Michelle and The Mademoiselles” were a “topless” girl band I’m pretty sure I have a photo of them somewhere.. maybe it’s a book-marker in my safely stored Mum’s 1968 Littlewoods catalog… Absolutely Rarer Than Rare… we gotta find another word to adequately describe “Extinct Northern Soul” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 313.00 Christine Cooper Heartaches Away My Boy This Weeks Rare STOCK copy - is such a very special piece indeed - as it comfortably sits in everyone’s top five favourite Northern Soul Sister Classics. and as a STOCK copy data suggests it close to 50 times rarer than the Promo counterpart. So if you want to own one of Northern Soul finest offerings.. this is the form to buy it in.. after near 40 years of frustrating unattainable status - this is a NS Classics value will always be only going one way…. Other than the small bb drill in the label this copy is flawless in every way.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 488.00 Isley Brothers Take Me In Your Arms C/w Why When Love Is Gone This weeks Tamla Motown collectors piece is something very special indeed, because it offers the double delight of two foot-to-the-floor Northern Soul stompers, both considered some of the finest Isley Brothers offerings to rare soul clubs ever recorded. Two frantic real-deal dance tunes.. TMG condition conscious collectors, be assured this copy is utterly flawless; with both labels & both vinyls only revealing the merest signs of human contact with only the occasional brief sleeve contact hairline; but the labels you could be forgive for thinking it was straight off the EMI press. It’s a beauty - a double beauty in fact Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 208.00 Lita Roza What Am I Supposed To Do Ivor Raymonde is a producer who was used to working with ladies had the power to emit an explosive vocal. He of course guided the likes of Dusty Springfield on many of her standout performances. Likewise with the much recorded but comparatively unsuccessful Lita Roza Mr. Raymonde lays down a full orchestra arrangement to compliment Ms. Roza’s booming vocal. Holly St. James style kettle-drums open the proceedings with a cooing girl-group embellishing the backing as banks of strings and blaring trumpets build up the Northern Soul backing. Big vocals - Big productions you cannot ignore them, especially when the two aspects are equally matched. This irresistible 1965 UK Red & White DEMO is is sparkling condition, close vinyl inspection reveals only a few hairline blemishes under light - the Red & White label has the radio station time written in biro 2’ 17” - and the file # to the right (see scan) Incredibly rare offering that most British dedicates will be unable to boast of ownership of this vital 45. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00 Detroit And The Intruders There She Goes C/w Let Me Love You Oh I’ve just come over all weak - I do just delight in these Doo-Wop influenced Northern Soul group dancers and this is, one of the very best. An ultra rare New Jersey recording from the streets of Hackensack, that ripples class on every note, as Woody Gardella manages to fuse the two eras seamlessly together. The soul intro immediately takes flight, soaring of a wave of woah-woahs, as the whisky-worn / nicotine-coated vocal leads with a begging performance, as the backing takes on some 50’s influences with a “Bass-Vocal” Doo-wopping merrily away in the background, sublime! This is highly polish vocal teamwork, as Woody ensures the 60s feel swells as the recording develops, with “Detroit” increasingly imploring in his delivery. Sorry to enthuse so OTT - but this “Just Does It” for me..brilliantly constructed. Deep Soul enthusiasts will immerse themselves into the tortured ballad flipside, that again features those throwback elements of Doo-Wop whilst retaining the pure integrity of SOUL. A few very light surface blemishes none of which show on the stylus. Excellent condition that plays Mint - both sides. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 271.00 Fred Hughes I Keep Tryin' C/w We've Got Love What a complicated business “collecting Northern Soul” can be. Ignorance is bliss? Well maybe it is, but not when your buying 70s counterfeits and thinking they are originals. Fred Hughes on Exodus authentic original 45 was pressed at ARP and of course has an ARP hallmark stamped in the deadwax. Note there are also other pressed outside the ARP run - but all have the EX-1023 matrix with NO TAIL on the scratched in “2” Just like this very elusive WHITE PROMO copy has; an ARP stamp-hallmark sitting in a 2 turn 12.30mm wide deadwax followed by a 27.75mm long scratched in matrix reading EX-1023. Yet another Northern Soul favourite, that after sitting on the fringes of Northern Soul classicdom for decades, is currently enjoying a huge renaissance with all its unmissable qualities bellowing out at many current events, the turntable resurgence has begun. The white promo is of course the ultimate way of owning this raising Northern Soul Star. PS the third scan is of the horrid phony New York counterfeit with the wide 15.25mm deadwax with NO MATRIX numbers - just a very faint “I KEEP TRYIN” in the deadwax..as you see from the counterfeit stock copy the silver text is not sharp - and the deadwax markings are all but meaningless except to the counterfeiter…and the vinyl that super-flexible one the same forger used on Joe Douglas, Sandy Wynns, Casanova Two, Dalton Boys, Marsha Gee to name only a few NS counterfeits that emerged from this same source. Having said that I bet the “unscrupulous” will think of scratching in matrix number.. look for the ARP hallmark that would be near impossible to replicate .. or go for this seriously RARE WHITE PROMO… in just startling condition! Our tip is do not buy any variation of this title with “I KEEP TRYIN” lightly scratched into the deadwax - it is certainly a counterfeit. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 260.00 Movin' Soothin' And The Stone Funk Band Cryin' For Your Love C/w Dealin' With A Feelin' Soulful Harmony vocal-group connoisseurs you are about to be impressed by a Dayton, Ohio area rarity; from the duo who gave us the stunning “Love’s Stormy Weather”. Again with the help of a vocal group, serve up a gloriously Soulful groove, exuding all the gravelly desperation we came to adore in the impossibly good “Love’s Stormy Weather”. James Matthews & Melvin Brown underline the “lost” talent that populates the bars and Nite Clubs of American. It is hard to imagine more grounded vocals than the ones this disc serves up. The slow rap intro fades, as the whole group enter the fray for an on-your-knees meeting of the minds. Excruciatingly soulful …gut twistingly good.. FUNK FANS - check out the meaty flipside - again vocally well endowed as the gathering wade through a maze of Wah-Wah guitars with chants, raps and shouts of approval - Proper raw, D.I.Y. Funk from the streets. Two fine sides, one very elusive 45 covering two contrasting genres with great effect.. Vinyl has some light surface marks but as you can hear plays nice and clean - label are both flaw free. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 108.00 Commands Hey It's Love C/w No Time For You This weeks offering to those of you addicted to the Northern Soul WHITE PROMO copy is just gorgeous. Not only because the two important first press San Antonio, Texas labels are totally unblemished. But the equally pristine vinyl gives up my favourite style of Northern Soul - the smooth-as-silk male vocal harmony NS dancer. As with most-all Abe Epstein sessions, both sides are slickly constructed, fluid movers benefiting from seamless arrangements and beautifully delivered mix of voices, with the lead vocal being super-impressive.. After all this is one of mine and many others fave Northern Soul tunes , presented here in an unmissable format.. Pass by if you can.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 149.00 Buddy Conner When You're Alone Breakthrough 1003 a rare release on the now mythical Los Angeles label with a few Northern Soul treasures to offer. Joey Jefferson again joined by Roy Hayes on this delightful 1970 session incorporating Buddy’s rasping vocal laced through the perfect mid-paced Northern Soul arrangement. Perfect arrangement it may but what makes this elusive 45 so special is the Bobby Bland / Buddy Ace styled vocal. Oh Boy, this guy pebble-dashes the mike on every word he growls out. This NS mid-tempo excellence heightened by a very special vocal indeed. DO NOT confuse this beauty with the 1972 remixed of the same song on Breakthrough 1004 - remixed and ultimately losing all that raw Soulful begging.. as a result. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 240.00 Hun's Review Featuring The Soul Brothers Don't Make Me Love You C/w Danger Zone Relentless vocal-group Northern Soul, defiantly delivered on wave after wave of violent horns, with the lead vocal delightfully overreaching itself in a style that actually adds to the naive charm of it… An heady cocktail of the unsophisticated D.I.Y. production and the 100% determination to make it happen - makes this 45 real-deal Northern Soul - with a reputation that has not stopped growing in recent times, as it’s NS turntable activity increases… In fact this particular 45 appears so frequently on forum or Facebook “wants” we can see this listing creating plenty of interest as these days it only seldom comes to market. As you can see both labels are clean and free of any flaws - both sides of the vinyl only reveal the odd blemish or two in strong light - and as you can hear plays 100% perfect.. Now let me listen again to that lead singers intense vitality one more time… just totally energizing… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 673.00

As few Soul-Boys had access to the USA in the “early” days, it was essential in the search of Norther Soul to tip your local area upside-down. It was after all the addiction of the chase and the extremely remote chance of discovering an unknown or even better one of those British only releases that buzzed with the Northern Soul beat. Jason Knight was one of those UK Grails that we all woke up clutching thin air after dreaming we’d found a copy in a junk shop record rack along with Jimmy Thomas, Fathers Angels, Levi Jackson & Carl Douglas - all gone as soon as we opened our eyes… I personally working alone, I’ve never ever found any of the afore mentioned - and geez I hate to think how much time I spent trying… Before you is a “Junkers” dream come true - a near perfect 1967 DEMO in blinding condition … I can now relax and dream on possibly attainable things like, a harem on the Isle of Mustique, a Tanker Truck of Guinness direct from Dublin, a flat six-pack for a stomach and one chin… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 362.00 Jimmy Wallace I'll Be Back NOTE. Next Wednesday is CHRISTMAS EVE so this weeks auction will finish on TUESDAY 23rd @ at 17.57 live conclusion as always In the genre of Northern Soul Beat Ballad Heaven! Jimmy Wallace sits a the very zenith of this hugely popular style… …little wonder really, as Philadelphia’s general of the studio console Bobby Martin flexes his remarkable skills, blending Jimmy’s sultry crooning with equally impressive horn work. Steadily but surely Bobby ratchets up proceedings, enriching the session step by step until those horns soar high, Jimmy’s vocal trembles with emotion and those slick trumpets punctuate the moving lyrics.. then towards the end Bobby adds the final masterstroke as a vocal-group replies to Jimmy’s pleas… IMMENSE totally IMMENSE!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,226.00 Velvet Satins Nothing Can Compare To You NOTE. Next Wednesday is CHRISTMAS EVE so this weeks auction will finish on TUESDAY 23rd @ at 17.57 live conclusion as always a perennial floor-packer for what seems forever.. but what also seems for ever is, the last time I saw this Northern Soul classic of classics in this format.. Quite easily it rarest design - the large logo WHITE DEMO Monarch recording press with Delta 56769 in the deadwax.. Click the soundfile and prepare to be catapulted back in time to THE CASINO at its height! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 313.00 Jackey Beavers Show We're Not Too Young To Fall In Love C/w When Something Is Wrong With My Baby The seldom seen press on Jackey Beavers own independent FIRST label, before its “Mainstream 713” release, which incidentally, is nearly as hard to acquire as that title, is ONLY available as the very rare STOCK release. So summarizing, which ever label you try to secure this 45 on, it is gonna be one hard quest for ownership. On Saturday I dropped this title into my DJ set announcing it as “a voice to blow you away..!” no need to add to that description as you’ll hear again on the flipside the power of Soulful spit, snarl, growl & purr crash its way into your heart - with a fabulous version of the Sam & Dave anthem Two killer sides one very rare local FIRST PRESS - what’s not to love? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 280.00 Hollidays I Lost You C/w Easy Living NOTE. Next Wednesday is CHRISTMAS EVE so this weeks auction will finish on TUESDAY 23rd @ at 17.57 live conclusion as always A doubly delicious dollop of Detroit - vocal-group delight from the desks of two of the Motor City’s Soul Mentors. We lead with Tony Hester writing, arranging and producing a current Northern Soul “revival” spin that on and off over the decades has resided on the turntables of a few Top-Jocks. Today I and many others drop the needle on this, to a hugely exuberant response. PROPER DETROIT NORTHERN SOUL utilizing the staggering lead vocal of Steve Mancha. Flip it over for an unparalleled piece of Michigan Soul which was credited To J. J. Barnes release on the highly coveted “Rare Stamps” album, listen to “The Hollidays” stir up the emotion, again allegedly Steve Mancha on lead. Two totally stand-out tunes on one disc - and in “dream” condition - as all of you who know about Detroit collectables, this seldom-seem disc is almost never witnessed in anything but “trashed” condition - this copy is a whisker away from Mint minus. PS in case your wondering - this is not my DJ box copy - personally I’d never think of parting..and after listening to these two remarkable sides - we are betting, neither would you… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 823.00 Lee Williams & The Cymbals I'm A Teenager C/w Girl From A Country Town NOTE. Next Wednesday is CHRISTMAS EVE so this weeks auction will finish on TUESDAY 23rd @ at 17.57 live conclusion as always I love all this guys work, with his equally talented backing group The Cymbals. Everything, so fluid, so slick, so tight, so darn soulful. So it comes as no surprise, that it matters not which side you drop the stylus on to, you’ll be treated to fabulously constructed vocal group Rare-Soul. Currently both sides are receiving Northern Soul turntable time, and I’m sitting here still pondering on which side I prefer, yet again. Let’s just say a finer double sider of this much-loved Harmony vocal genre, does not spring to mind. It is New Jersey Northern Soul crossover or if you prefer “Rare Soulful Dance” at its very finest! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 188.00 Brice Coefield Ain't That Right C/w Just One More Night NOTE. Next Wednesday is CHRISTMAS EVE so this weeks auction will finish on TUESDAY 23rd @ at 17.57 live conclusion as always The rarely witnessed STOCK copy in utterly pristine condition.. Gaze long and hard at its beauty, then hear it’s irresistible charms.. with both sides offering Northern Soul excellence as former members of The Untouchables Gary & Chester Pipkin join forces to craft the topside - a meaty horn & vocal group H. B. Barnum guided Northern Soul dancer - one the NS Old-school have loved for decades but amazingly, a 45 that has never been bootlegged or reissued.. go figure that one? Those of you who appreciate the finer end of Northern Soul’s Beat Ballad Heaven, the flipside will move you. The listings on You Tube have been pitched up a little, but I personally prefer the purity of the slow-drag and a pack of squealing girls lifting the session to greatness, as a sublime instrumental break grabs hold.. AWESOME mid-paced Northern Soul Bliss! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 332.00 Z. Z. Hill Make Me Yours NOTE. Next Wednesday is CHRISTMAS EVE so this weeks auction will finish on TUESDAY 23rd @ at 17.57 live conclusion as always UK ONLY as a 45. Exclusively lifted from his extremely rare 1969 British album Action 6004 . Why B&C decided to give this fabulously gritty male version of the Bettye Swann masterpiece, may have been down to Dave Godin’s regular Blues & Soul enthusiastic endorsements of his favourite girl recording. Z. Z. Hill was ideally placed to add his own stamp of authority to Bettye’s young girl plea, as he must have heard it countless times on the Los Angeles Radio Stations as Bettye smashed through the R&B charts in 1967. Whatever the reasons, this was an executive choice that nowhere else in the music world made, triggering the birth of one of the UK’s most-wanted 45s. Even more so, now as it begins to feature in quite a few of the more imaginative NS DJ sets.. This copy is FLAWLESS! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 229.00 Natural Four I Thought You Were Mine C/w Hurt NOTE. Next Wednesday is CHRISTMAS EVE so this weeks auction will finish on TUESDAY 23rd @ at 17.57 live conclusion as always FLAWLESS! yes, an utterly FLAWLESS PROMO! Another euphoric moment revisited from my younger days in that cosmopolitan city, Leicester, that not only has the finest curry houses on the Planet, but also in it’s day was home to some very influential Soul Boys. The Frost Brothers, Chris & Steve, one night spun this track off the Natural Four ABC album in the very early 70s. WOW! what a tune “does it exist on a 45”.. the general opinion that night at the bar, was “no” Album track only. The ever reliable Bob Catteneo came up with a few copies off his doorstep and it soon became a monster spin up and down the land and a very classy tune for it’s time, too. Today, like most all of our Christmas period offerings; This 45 is in “as good as it gets” condition. Still hugging its birth-sleeve… perch to again deliver euphoric recall to those who remember its birth… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 410.00
  8. SOMETIMES IT'S CHEAPER TO SEND TWO OR THREE LOTS DEPENDING ON WEIGHT, YOU JUST NEED TO KNOW THE TIPPING POINT WEIGHT WISE. JOE. PS, DO THEY STILL HAVE SURFACE MAIL, IT WAS A LOT CHEAPER THAN AIRMAIL COMING FROM CANADA A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK FOR SOME LP'S. JUST TAKES LONGER

  11. Jimmy Delphs Dancing A Hole In The World Vocal / Instrumental What sets a man apart from other men, can be many things. But for the legendary Wigan Casino DJ Richard Searling it was his impeccable taste, his ability to sew a set together, ultimately building the club atmosphere as his choices are cued. But with Richard’s finely tune ear, complimented by the understanding of what record would best follow which. His reputation as not only the “Casino’s” Top Jock but the whole of Britains’ during the larger part of the 70’s. This coupled with his connection with the World’s Top-Soul-Record dealer John Anderson and his Soul Bowl record mail order was one of the major reasons Wigan Casino is remembered as the most important Northern Soul venue of all time. Even among the illustrious DJ’s that played the decks of “The Casino” - Richard stood head and shoulders above his teammates.. This listing today is one of the reasons why (it was at the time exclusive) even near 40 years on there is only a mere handful of this the original version by Jimmy Delphs are known to exist. Click the soundfile for a brief portal into Northern Soul’s Glory Years, and a hint of what Richard Sealing and John Anderson brought to a scene that could have been so different - if Tony Blackburn’s “I’ll Do Anything” album, Simon Sousan’s especially made instrumentals or Ian Levine’s Northern Soul inspired productions took hold… Fortunately, John Anderson kept finding the ultra-good and the unbelievably rare - Richard was not afraid to break them, forming a bridge into the 80s, at a very crucial time.. Jimmy Delphs a WIGAN CASINO ANTHEM and one of the very rarest 45’s ever played there.. still sounding awesome today! Vinyl has some light surface marks but plays, as you can hear superbly! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,367.00 Sammy Ambrose Welcome To Dreamsville C/e Monkey See-monkey Do An “100 club anthem”, an Oxford Street signature tune that Ady Croasdell championed during the 80s, as his eclectic taste ensured the 100 Club would not only evolve into a Northern Soul Shrine, but also established itself as the longest running Rare-Soul venue ever! Imagine in the 80s MOD engulfed atmosphere as Ady and team served up a smorgasbord of the Big City Sound, Latin and extravagant Northern Soul rarities during Northern Souls quieter years. Imagine descending 3 flights of stairs into a dungeon of sound to be met by the product of the students of New York’s “Brill Building” - Bob Elgin, Robert Maxwell & Lockie Edwards construct a mighty Northern Soul cornerstone… that up until the 100 Club spins had virtually been ignored by the Northern Soul DJ’s with the exception of Stafford - the unique identity of the 100 Club was starting to take shape.. So imagine owning an absolutely spotless, pristine 1965 Red & White DEMO of this highly-regarded piece of Northern Soul - it’s USA Musicor release is coveted - in this form “Dreamsville” a prestigious and highly esteemed disc. You will NOT find a finer copy…or a more impressive catalyst that dictated a change of course for Northern Soul into “Beat Ballad Heaven” or should we say “Beat Ballad Dreamsville” ? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 642.00 Supremes Where Did Our Love Go C/w He Means The World To Me As all Old-school British Tamla Motown stalkers will confirm, the hits are hard to find in clean condition, nice flawless labels. The PROMO’s are so hard to acquire most collectors, have given up sticking to the shop release copies. Those of you brave enough to try and “complete” the British Motown releases as DEMO’s will also confirm it’s the “hits” that seldom come to market as those irresistible Red & Whites or Green & Whites. To underline this phenomenon “Baby Love” DEMO is particularly elusive and we have only had 2 copies in the last 20 years. Astonishingly “Where Did Our Love Go” Red & White we have not listed a single copy! THIS IS A DEBUT RECORD TO THIS AUCTION Really RARE and this copy is a stunning MINT - with only the lightest, hairline sleeve contact blemish or two reveals itself under strong light. Labels are flawless with the release date on centerpiece of the A side. The TMG DEMO addict will be awaiting another lifetime for a finer copy! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 201.00 Ambers Potion Of Love C/w Another Love Original very first press of this Double-helping of high-calibre Northern Soul. In fact this dual vocal-group stomper epitomizes the very essence of the NS harmony group experience. “Potion Of Love” an old “Torch” favourite, is the side that has been right up there recently highlighting the more imaginative DJ NS oldies sets after the last 4 decades and more of snoozing.. but just listen to the flipside “Another Love” is every note as good. “Potion” is currently filling floors as its renaissance spreads - but surely it is time to get onto the flipside as well.. as not may 45s offer “Two For The Price Of One” of this high standard, do they. A-side condition is Mint - flip side is Ex + and again note this is the 1967 original not the 1973 “Mercury badged” repress. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 199.00 Jaybirds Somebody Help Me C/w The Right Kind As a rather enthusiastic near 17 year old I was introduced to the Soul Club scene by way of a real MOD (who fancied my girlfriend) who took the pair of us, by Bus to the back of the Notts Forest football ground, where 3 boating club houses stood facing the river Trent. The Brit, The Boat & The Union all iconic clubs of the time. But “The Brit” was the one that played SOUL. Eagerly waiting in the throng outside, I was soon at the bottom of the stairs on my way up to Soul Heaven. To this day I can remember the sounds that changed my life, from a disenchanted Gas Fitting apprentice into a relentless vinyl hound. Al Kent - The Way You’ve Been Acting Lately. Hoagy Lands - The Next In Line. Jimmy McCracklin - The Walk. Spinners - She’s Gonna Love Me At Sundown. Jackie Edwards - I Feel So Bad I knew not one title, the DJ never said one word all night - I left The Boat awestruck… wondering where I could find this records, what the hell were they? Exactly like the schoolboy in NORTHERN SOUL THE MOVIE i was hooked, totally enamored by SOUL….and what the hell was that weird version of “Somebody Help Me” they played more than once during the evening.. I had some much to find out. Well “Somebody Help Me” was by “The Jaybirds” and was a TWISTED WHEEL anthem (and should be played in every “Wheel” tribute since) It was so rare way back then, I was laughed at in the Arkwright Street, Select-A-Disc when I asked if they had a copy. Although the other tunes I heard that night eventually made it into my collection - the Jaybirds took far longer.. UK release ONLY and never bootlegged - so imagine my delight when one did come my way maybe 6/7 years later and I got it home to discovered a potential MONSTER Northern Soul instrumental I’d never heard before on the flipside; I was overjoyed.. This copy in pristine - flawless in its birth-sleeve. Brings back so many memories not only for me - but I bet every Soulie who attended “The Brit” or “The Wheel” during the embryonic part of their own Soul journey. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 417.00 Wess Oliver Keep The Faith C/w I Confess (i'm Te Guilty One) Highly colourful but very seldom-seen 1967 Los Angeles Northern Soul backed with a fall to your knees pleading Otis-inspired Deep Soul journey. Which ever side you drop onto, it gives up uncompromising 60s Soul. We lead with Northern Soul with clout - pumping brass prompts Wess Oliver power-pack vocal which rides an avalanche of brass bubbling with Memphis influences. Then obscure arranger L. W. Mulkey pulls a masterstroke when the relentless tempo slumps into bass guitar riff, with the horns subtly changing the atmosphere - ferocious Northern Soul with classy interludes. Deep Soul aficionados who have been frustrated over the years, as it seems the NS jocks have snagged any copies that surfaced. Here a chance to own a superior Deep ballad saturated in every facet we seek in a killer ballad. Emotional, expressive beseeching deliver and yearning horns decorated by a tinkling piano.. close your eyes and this is a “Stax Studio” session with the “Big 0” at the microphone - truly formidable. Condition unlike the only other two copies I’ve witnessed this century, is absolutely flawless Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 220.00 Nicky Newarkers Woman The former Bill Harris - Fool For You - cover up has stood the test of time brilliantly - still today this inspiration fills floors, remembering for all the demand this 45 has been under for several decades now; it has never been bootlegged or reissued, adding greatly to it’s mystique & kudos. The studio marriage of Jesus Alvarez & the consistent Jerry Ross was always gonna give up something special and this 1976 New Yorker is just that. The pairing guides the group through 3 minutes of total 70s dance, managing to avoid the crasser “Disco” cliches that tainted most dance productions of the time, crafting the perfect mid-70s dancer. This is vocal-group Soulful dance at it’s most compelling.. and his copy is flawless in every way.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 513.00 Jean Carter Like One C/w That Boy Ain't No Good It’s been a Northern Soul policy for as long as I can remember for the unscrupulous when they have a flawed record to say “They Al Play Like That” The bad press for fidelity that this NS Classic has received over the last 40 years even had me believing it was mastered poorly. So I started in more recent times paying attention to every copy that has been through our hands… ALL have played flawlessly - so bangs goes the myth on this record “they all play with bad sound” although to be fair I have heard some with inferior fidelity.. more like due to NS turntable hammer that mastering. THIS COPY IS PERFECT never been on the rigorous Northern Soul circuit like many of our December listing especially aimed at Christmas present this 45 has spent it’s life in a “file only” environment. Perfect in every way - still snug inside its bith-sleeve. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 206.00 Adorables Ooh, Boy! C/w Devil In His Eyes A sparkling copy of a current Dancefloor Detonator. Motor City ladies under the spell of Richard Popcorn Wylie ooze out estrogen on every note, as a torrent of femininity spills out. This is Detroit at it’s best and on a label that consistently delivered only the finest on the era. In the early decades of Northern Soul this tune was fighting against a multitude of fine stomping Sister Sounds and the shifting sands of Northern Soul tastes and trends. In the end though pure class always breaks through big on the Northern Soul scene.. nice to see this cramming the floors in recent years - flawless Girl Group Northern Soul. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 411.00 Sherlock Holmes Standing At A Standstill Seldom seen mid-Tempo brilliance. Simplistic Northern Soul that creeps under your skin creating an itch for ownership. One of those records that is so easy on the ear and feet, you think at first this is nice, then you find it sits in your head all day. Whether it be the laid back vocal of the Baltimore, Maryland crooner or the benign horns that gently blow in the background as Sherlock glides through the session.. But this thoughtful arrangement just keeps stepping up the power, when by the ending you are bedazzled by the complimented genius of blending horns and a silky vocal to such great effect. Do not pass by, this record is seriously elusive as very few lucky owners would ever considered parting with this finely tuned treasure. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 390.00 Ward Burton Sweet Temptation Some records just lift your day - today Ward Burton has lifted mine. Not only with remarkable Northern Soul but also with its perfect condition vinyl, flawless labels and music that instantaneously makes your spirits soar. A legendary and completely elusive Northern Soul Trophy, influenced the “Charay” household, who also recorded an “impossible” Sister version by Martha Starr. The Fort Worth, Texas based company who gave us many other fabulous offerings from the Major Bill Smith and his associates. Listen to this perfectly constructed Northern Soul floor-pleaser enriched with rippling vibes, clean crisp guitar, carefully controlled and highly skilled horns, even a mandolin breaks through the arrangement, embellishing even further an already flowing-over production. All this studio activity is the perfect-landscape for Ward Burton’s silky to glide over.. This is SUPERIOR NORTHERN SOUL in flawless condition - that only the very few collectors and DJ’s can boast of ever owning. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,912.00 Purple Mundi Stop Hurting Me Baby C/w I Can't Understand First press of this wonderful dance tune from the Sunshine State.. Mellow intro let’s you know you’re about hear a stand-out, but your expectations could not have been so high as to expect the formidable lead vocal that was about growl his way through this floating stepper. A record that has been “wowing” the throngs who attend the selectively Soulful clubs…Soul Essence, Thorne, The Orwell, Just Soul etc. etc. As this tune is delivered at exactly the right pace for superior Soulful Dance admirers to submerge themselves into.. It’s right up there in a different league to most 70s recordings, with it being sodden-through with despair, disappointment & pain and you still need to dance to it.. .Top Drawer! The flip will delight harmony ballad fans.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 728.00 Smallwood Brothers Day Before Tomorrow C/w You Can't Reason With A Broken Heart ONLY AVAILABLE AS THE HIGHLY ELUSIVE STOCK COPY! The chase for those rare stock copies hiding the jewels of a flipside - the more common mono/stereo PROMO copy doesn’t.. Just like the highly prized Darrow Fletcher this Smallwood Brothers rarity offers up a hugely attractive Philly dancer not available as the promo copy. The totally prolific twins Melvin & Mervin Steals who first came to my notice by writing the unforgettable Four Perfections - I’m Not Strong Enough - before moving onto writing & producing some of the most meticulously crafted 70s Soul - a large proportion of it under the pseudonym “Mystro & Lyric” Atco’s lead side is already a highly regarded Sweet Soul treasure decorated with a full orchestra arrangement. Yes, utterly delicious groove .. a group-harmony masterpiece… so flip it to hear the classy dance side..that has eluded everyone. Contrasting upbeat Philly stormer featuring full vocal group harmony ion the background, the compulsory bank of strings that qualify the “Sound Of Philadelphia”. A huge production showcasing highly-honed falsetto solos, lengthy instrumental breaks and intricate vocal interchanges . Top drawer 1977 Soulful dance - back up with Sweet Soul heaven Two great sides crafted by two highly talented twins.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 157.00 Fabulous Emotions Funky Chicken C/w Number One Fool Catch this one on the “up”! Currently this typically “Philly” instrumental is grabbing some attention from both DJ’s and collectors alike, as the blending of restrained FUNK and Northern Soul works so refreshingly well, when the 60s Philly element is present. It’s been hovering around the borders of Northern Soul DJ choices for literally decades but never quite broke through to the NS big-time… but now is its time, as this Bobby Martin & Thom Bell creation instantly catches the ear, just like the very similar Cliff Nobles sessions featuring Mike Terry’s low-blow Baritone Sax did! You can hear the bari-Sax on this session but whether it is actually Mike Terry or just his influence is a matter for more thought.. Like the record company, we’ve led with the blatant dancefloor detonating instrumental side, but many will prefer the vocal-group side, as the lyrics drop into place so effortlessly. This offering is the rarely seen VINYL PROMO press - in fine clean condition. It did of course first appear on the NICO label - but the recent interest and the fact Soul Sam has just dropped a copy into his DJ box, we feel this Promo is worthy of a little speculation as to where it will rank …this time next year. May we add this VINYL PROMO was pressed from the NICO masterplate - The styrene press, seems to have been born slightly later and remastered and pressed at FRANKFORD & WAYNE. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 221.00

  15. JIMMY ROBBINS - I CAN'T PLEASE YOU
  16. Flowers For Real Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going album broke new territory for Soul music, as all the rules were thrown out the window with lush, lengthy instrumental intros left you begging for the vocal to open. Flowers does the same.. Richard Flowers like so many others must have drawn inspiration from the last century’s finest album - as this single has left me feeling exactly as I did the first time I drop the arm on STML11190. Breathless, left craving for more.. Too much SOUL for one heart to take!! From the California brain behind N. F. Porter’s “Keep On Keeping On” comes a journey to Heaven and back. Drenched, in fact saturated in undiluted passion and emotion. Dripping with desire, a hunger that very few recordings can transmit, just like the “Hamilton Movement” listening is a mood-changing experience, dancing to it is trance inducing… every note exuding class! We repeat “..too much SOUL for one heart to take” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,235.00 Trumains Ripe For The Pickin' C/w Mr. Magic Man This 45 has always been a big favourite of mine - foolproof rare 70s Soulful dance that has graced the soulful clubs since late 70s. How gratifying that it is also now crossing over the the mainstream Northern Soul gatherings engaging a whole new set of fans. Just totally seamless 1977 dance-soul from the pen of a man who has provided so much exceptional material to the Rare-Soul scenes - Keni Lewis does it again. But this 45 is so much more than a just dancefloor flare-up. This is the seldom seen STOCK copy with the highly coveted Sweet Soul side, that does not appear on the more frequent PROMO. “Mr. Magic Man” again from the pen of Keni Lewis this 45 gives up a falsetto from Heaven cradled by an equally impressive tight-group backing. If Sweet Soul gets better than this I’ve yet to hear it… AWESOME Both sides.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 266.00 Pat Stallworth Questions Part 1 & 2 A sweeter Sister vocal you could not find.. than this sexy D.I.Y. production from the streets of Cleveland, Ohio. The intentional simplistic arrangement allows Pat’s seductive vocal ignite the senses. Gently building on the back of a precise drum stroke intro, a softly caressed Wah-Wah precedes a warbling flute, then Ms. Stallworth glides in with a vocal, you could fall in love with. “Crazy About Crossover?” I certainly am, especially went it is as slick as this street-level creation .. this record instantly got to me… and then I heard the flipside… OMG where is this lady now? I need to take her out to dinner… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 411.00 Towana & The Total Destruction Wear Your Natural, Baby C/w Help Me Get That Feelin' Back Again An utterly persuasive slab of California Rare-Soul that achieved fully 3 different label designs, the one before you; Black with silver text being the 1st and by far the rarest. Topside used to be an overlooked treasure, as the Northern Soul fraternity opted to play the much meatier “Help Me” on which Ty Karim flexes her unique vocal, whilst a gang of harmony guys back up her every line, with a pumping hard saxophone blows, then husband Kent Harris brings in strings and the session is complete! Leaving me now wondering why this undiluted slab of proper-Northern Soul didn’t achieve MONSTER status? Especially as Ty Karim is in sparklin’ form.. Until that is, I listened again to “Wear Your Natural” a true MASTERPIECE ! I proclaim… Ty is an undisputed vocal genius, Kent Harris is a genius producer and that saxophonist is pretty competent also. So click the soundfile and be prepared to get blown away, by an inspirational mid-pacer again utilizing a tight vocal-group who do a classy call & answer sequence, lush strings fill the air, shrill girls join the party; As Ty Karim moves on up and slips into top gear. Purring, growling throughout an on-your-knees performance which not many Sisters could attempt to rival. AWESOME truly AWESOME! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 310.00 Theron & Darrell I Was Made To Love You C/w It's Your Love Which side to lead with - NS FUNK is so in the-moment. But the mid-paced soul side is so impressive, we’ll leave the attitude driven horn side until last. “I Was Made To Love You” is totally sodden in beseeching Soul, but the falsetto matched against he gravel-coated vocal is “Peaches & Cream” “Balsamic Vinegar & Olive Oil” “Anchovy & Pizza” the falsetto is set -off so brilliantly by the contrast. From the streets of Wichita, Kansas this duet is so full, you could be forgiven for thinking it is a group pulling this despairing slab of Soul together. Sensational Crossover Northern with a constant funky riff going on in the background and Theron & Darrell duel for the most impressive vocal-pitch as the trumpeter gets down and into the groove. Flip it over, for some “Meat & Potatoes” with a wicked guitar pickin’ screamer enriched by uncompromising horns, blaring out the back-up. Aggressive, straight to the point Rare-Soul-FUNK. Dead-right for todays upfront NS Jocks with the previous side ideal for the more Soulful amongst you. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 711.00 Jimmy Mack My World Is On Fire C/w Go On Breathtaking condition and an insanely Rare PROMO too. Martin Coleman, Mike Valvano & Cholly Bassoline’s magic Motor City mover became an instant Northern Soul monster overnight; epitomizing the very essence of the sound. Encapsulating everything required to make an NS stomper totally perfect. Zinging strings, ear-piercing girls and Jimmy Mack’s enthusiasm have illuminated dancefloors for decades and long will it continue to do so.. But today though, for me at least, it is the flipside that needs blasting out at every Soul event worldwide. In the same vein of the all-time great Detroit mid-tempo’s Buddy Smith, James Lately, George Lemons, J. J. Barnes - Sweet Sherry etc… Jimmy Mack’s “GO ON” sits right up there along side the most soulful ever committed to vinyl. Take a listen, you’ll be totally moving every time.. PS condition is just blindingly flawless in every minuscule way - one brief sleeve brush away from PERFECT! THIS IS PURE NORTHERN SOUL - twice over Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 889.00 Invitations Watch Out Little Girl C/w You're Like A Mystery Irresistible for more reasons than one.. Currently cramming floors up and down Britain with it’s infectious blend of magical vocal-group harmony Northern Soul woven into a New York Latino influenced arrangement. A MONSTER ! This copy is in utterly flawless condition, with two unblemished labels, mirror like vinyl surface. You may never see a finer copy.. or see a fuller dancefloor.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 431.00 William Cummings Make My Love A Hurting Thing Now here’s a TUNE.. real-deal Northern Soul that has remained seriously rare for an age. How many Northern Soul Real-Deal stompers deliver more than this Blitzing Beauty? …. Not many I tell you, not many.. listen to David Fitzgerald’s trumpet driven stomper bristling with class, as he times the horns precisely to punctuate Mr. Cummings pleading vocal whilst insane drumming rattles the tune from one peak to another. Honking Horns, Driving Drums and a truly Vivacious Vocal… it doesn’t get much better than this, does it. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,016.00 Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell Ain't No Mountain High Enough A Northern Soul anthem and certainly one the guaranteed TMG dancefloor-detonator in it’s most-wanted least-seen format. A 1967 DEMO copy in it’s full glorious Green & White attire.. Condition could hardly be finer - and for the UK Tamla Motown collector it will another number to tick off, because upgrade in the future will ever be required. A beauty and flawless. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 174.00 John Lee Hooker I'm In The Mood C/w Boogie Chillun A Blues great with a stunnng piece of R&B. That is so very clean and untouched, this 1965 UK press, the paper chard remains from the die-cut 3 prong dinking can still be seen hanging, even after 50 years. As you would expect, the vinyl is flawless. Rare and in the type of the condition, that the fastidious collector has been seeking to the point of frustration. there is the merest blemish to the left of the WI-361 release number on the a-side. Otherwise this listing in impeccable. SUE collectors, when will you encounter a finer example..? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 77.00 The Jades I'm Where It's At C/w Mother's Only Daughter Forget Cleethorpes Pier - well if you didn’t attend you maybe can, if you did you certainly will never forget that experience. But for me and many other old-timers THE JADES is 100% WIGAN CASINO so impressive was this find - on it’s first play by Richard Searling it was the most talked about tune of the night and so impressive was this mighty-stomper. Simon Soussan was not far behind the striking black & silver REE label press which which flooded the UK quite soon after its Casino debut. The REE label repro was so well put together that many thought it to be the original label at the time, well it wasn’t but before you today is that highly elusive original PROMO press. (I’ve personally never seen a STOCK copy) This NS Trophy comes to us in unbelievable condition, NEVER had any DJ turntable action ever. Still in it’s birth sleeve, with only the lightest of a surface blemish preventing a coveted MINT grade.. In 2014 we doubt a finer copy exists… PS the flipside is an overlooked Jewel of Harmony Heaven! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 793.00 Chants Baby I Don't Need Your Love Not many people who have won CRUFTS Dog Show can claim fame as writing and recording one of Northern Soul’s most-wanted British Recordings! Silky Smooth Chris Amoo Northern Soul groove, with an army of underground admirers. We say underground because in the many decades of it’s discovery there has never been enough copies to go round, for DJ’s it give it the lift-off, unlike some of the other exclusively British beauties unearthed over the years. Go and immerse yourself in what is of the very best British production from the very talented Tony Hiller (check out his work on Deram). Passionate drumming, soaring trumpets pick up the pace as the lead vocal glides above it all. Hiller puts strong vocal group choruses in place and this production is up and running, burgeoning on every note - then it hits the roof! JUST BRILLIANT!!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 131.00 Tom Green Endless Confusion Apparently collectors who know, consider this 1974 UK press one of the rarest ACTION 45s; I tend to agree with that statement, but British rarity is not it’s main attribute to consider… Firstly, it is a truly exceptional early 70s Soulful Dancer, that has graced the Top Jock turntables of the thinking man’s Soul venues. Soul Essence, Just Soul, The Orwell to name but a few.. Secondly and much more importantly this USA production for the more discerning DJ, was a 1973 USA release on EVOLUTION. As a Promo it does not carry the good side. The stock copy I personally have never seen, nor indeed know anyone who has. The search for a USA Stock copy has remained fruitless quest now for literally decades. That is what makes this UK release so precious, it could be the only way to own this stunning tune.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 87.00 Irene And The Scotts I'm Stuck On My Baby C/w Why Do You Treat Me Like You Do Let the debate begin, now that this demonstrative double-sider is on the NS comeback trail. Irene Scott and the Scott Brothers drop two NS Bombs with these killer 1967 Detroit produced Northern Soul dancers. A wowing Chicago/Detroit collaboration that just works so well. From the same session as The Scott Brothers - Smash 2137 - Irene delivers potent Sister Soul under the guidance of Detroit shakers and makers of the time. Both sides written by “Rare Earth” founders Ray Monnette, Michael Campbell (aka Micheal & Raymond) & Bob Babbit. Arranged by the “joined at the hip” Mike Theodore & Dennis Coffey Produced by Funk Brothers bass guitarist Bob Babbitt, aided by Motor City entrepreneur & drummer Norman Sands. With that team you’d expect something special and that is exactly what you get! Thumping Sister-Northern Soul with few rivals!! This Promo copy, is as you’ve come to expect - is utterly flawless! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 166.00 Kim Weston Rock Me A Little While + 3 Without question one of UK Tamla Motown collectors Grails. Ridiculously elusive 1965 EP featuring Kim’s two greatest Motown offerings to Northern Soul as the first track on each side. I’m Still Loving You Don’t Compare Me With Her Take Me In your Arms (Rock Me A Little While) Just Loving you Kim in 1965 was certainly one of Motown’s lesser appreciated by the British public femme artists with all her early releases selling in very meager quantities. Before you today is here hardest to acquire UK 7” release - with her “Ready Steady Go” performance single “A Little More Love” running in as a close second. This lady was soon to become the “darling” of the All Nite Club Soul scene, but by the time that happened this EP was long deleted. Do not pass by, this disc comes to market only on rare occasions. This 50 year old is in fine clean condition throughout and as you can hear plays beautifully, front cover has light creasing (see scan), back cover has light age browning to the top seam. and a very faint almost invisible J B just below the TME release number. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 206.00
  17. four tops # can't seem to get you out of my mind / do what you gotta do martha / vandellas # you've been in love too long / love ( makes me do foolish things
  18. connie clark went for a good price imo, i used to have a yellow boot back in the 70's at least i thought it was a boot ??. just got a blue lable one now.
  19. Connie Clark My Sugar Baby Vocal / Instrumental In short… From the pen of Frank Wilson, comes one of the greatest female Northern Soul recordings EVER! Forget Cleethorpes Pier - this was an historic Wigan Casino ANTHEM! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,413.00 Martells Where Can My Baby Be For those seeking to own very seldom seen, this ridiculously RARE ORIGINAL in flawless condition fits the bill perfectly. Tennessee’s premier Soul Man Clifford Curry writes for his Knoxville hometown band The Martells, who deliver a moody Northern Soul groove, that builds on the back of humming horns and burping trumpets, then those compulsory girls step up to serve us with a finely tuned squealing response, making this recording after it’s laid back intro… PROPER NORTHERN SOUL. Original first press Northern Soul not come any more tempting than this 7” Pimpernel… Just one very light DJ retrieve surface slip blemish on the a-side, otherwise vinyl is PERFECT just like the labels. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 849.00 Lou Pride With Bobby Gamble & Oliver Lady Your Love Is Fading C/w Lonely Room Unicorn-Rare Memphis Crossover Northern Soul dancer, backed with the Killer Deep Funk flip. Although considered precious, this serious rarity was not quite the right style to follow Lou’s “I’m Coming Home In The Mornun” into Northern Soul immortality, but did however steadily grow in reputation due to extreme rarity and shifting sands of Northern Soul tastes, as the upfront and decidedly more discerning Jocks gave it turntable time at venues like Great Yarmouth Soul Essence etc. Then there was Keb Darge’s Deep Funk revolution to expose the flipside and this 45 ascended to double-Grail status. Even over four decades of being pursued by most-every serious Soul collector worldwide still only an handful are known. This copy has a few light surface, but as you can hear in their entirety both sides play loud clean and true…. when will another opportunity arise to corner this endangered species again? ..do not pass by. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,869.00 Earl Connelly This Girl Wicked Philadelphia Popcorn flavoured Northern Soul, infectious to the point of being mood challengingly dangerous! Captivating arrangement of sultry sax blows, tingling piano and skilful guitar picking, blend seamlessly into a tantalizing stroller; conjuring up visions of murky backstreet Nite-Clubs decorated with tasseled Go-Go dancers and mean-faced whiskey drinking gangsters. Right “Under-your-skin” groove, itching for the right DJ who’s not afraid of the Popcorn Sound to spice up his/her set! note: This is the acetate for the rare first press on on Master Sound 12 not the Maycon release. Fidelity of this direct studio cut could not be finer.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 391.00 Little Richie Just Another Heart Break The rare, in fact very rare, “Heart BREAK” miss title of this timeless Northern Soul classic. A symbolism of Wigan Casino in it’s embryonic years, underlining why this club grew so rapidly to become Northern Souls no. 1 choice of Saturday destination. With the Blackpool Mecca giving this iconic disc an unhindered Casino “exclusive run” after one of its DJ was quoted in print for allegedly saying “Little Richie - sucks” When it became a hugely requested NS tune, The Mecca relented, Cleethorpes Pier snagged a copy and we had countrywide lift-off. Then some collector much-smarter than me, noticed there was a rare variation with a typo title…and what is before you today is a universal Northern Soul anthem in its least seen, most wanted form.. Gorgeous isn’t it ! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 785.00 Ollie Jackson The Day My Heart Stood Still C/w Gotta Wipe Away The Teardrops Los Angeles “Motown” from the desk of Brenda Holloway’s discoverer Kent Harris, Jobette West Coast producer Hal Davis, the great Willie Hutch and Royce Esters all join forces and make not one but TWO spectacular Northern Soul dancers. The topside joying huge Wigan Casino popularity, so much so, it was annoyingly swiftly bootlegged. The flipside had been a passed over sleeper until a few years back and “Butch” gave is a long overdue turntable outing and then it became a universal major want. Check out the sheer excellence that either side gives up - you can choose Motowneqsue Northern Soul or flip it for a giant production to pin you ears back. Condition is blinding - in fact so near to Mint we almost gave it that coveted grade. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 323.00 Epics Stop To Turn Around C/w Party Time This weeks RARE Sweet Soul offering, is way beyond rare and debuting the auction. The ambitious “Big Important Record Company” from the streets of Tucson, Arizona release scintillating Sweet Harmony Soul spiked with an icicle sharp falsetto on their tiny label with the quirky logo. Slow pace intro almost immediately kicks in with sky-high notes which the backup enriches with silky slick choruses, whilst the aching falsetto sets the scene. A lengthy piano break and a swirling synth all fuse into one dreamy session, with impeccable timing and pitch creating a super-rare seamless ballad. The flip will interest those chasing urban-Boogie - with a primitive but interesting dance tune. Like many Europeans the complexity and seemingly endless discoveries of serious rarities of this genre, is starting to pique my interest; an interest that has been so very strong within the USA for 50 years or more.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 170.00 New Younger Brothers Keep It Together C/w You Gave Me The Feeling For those of you seeking RARE and looking for something new to hit the crowd with - this is a must-consider. From the streets of Buffalo, New York comes this obscure D.I.Y. double-hitter from the Younger Brothers who completely change styles from floating 70s Northern Soul on the lead side to punchy electric FUNK on the flip. Topside is really strong, featuring a fabulous Sister lead vocal gliding on a persistent guitar rhythm, soaring synth and potent backing vocals keep the session uplifting and fully stoke… tremendous dancefloor possibilities. POTENTIAL IS GLARING for the NS Jock seeking a new tune.. For the FUNK aficionado, the imaginative flipside also benefits from that same Soulful lady’s vocal, rich backing vocals and a wild Wah-Wah underpinned by a twangy Bass guitar Funky dance riff. Condition is flawless, apart from the sticker removal mark on the flipside label.. The obscure - who can resist them? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 221.00 Sy Hightower I Know You're Leaving Me C/w Wild Love The label is stunning but dreary when compared to the Soul that hides in the grooves! What a soulful month November has been for the auction - with The Hamilton Movement laying down a monumental piece of beseeching vocal-group Soul. Now Sy Hightower keeps up the lofty standard with this imploring masterpiece. Listen and weep, as Sy pleads with a vocal that tears at your heart, the girls in the background don’t help lighten the atmosphere with their celestial vocal backing. But that skilled plectrum work, the lush strings and discreet horns elevate this session into Soulful Dance Heaven. Sy’s gravel-coated despair woven so skilfully within a dance groove.. oh what a joy it is, to hear& view records of this calibre… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 638.00 Kurtis Scott Build, Build, Build Part 1 & 2 Thoroughly uplifting string drenched rare 70s Soulful dance! This 1976 production manages to avoid all Disco cliches of the area & time, instead cultivating a huge backdrop of soaring girl vocals, lush persistent strings, driven by a rattling rhythm. Robert Banks in his trademark style again crams everything possible into the arrangement. A very individual recording with no comparable jumping to mind, this is a “stay in your mind” tune underlining the versatility of the broad boundaries the Northern Soul scene boasts; as the record hurtles to an ending of a powerful bass guitar rhythm that becomes a bridge for part 2. Extremely hard to find, due a “falling out” between artist and label owner , who allegedly failed to distribute this single as a result. Extremely hard to forget… as this is “Emperor Of My Baby’s Heasrt” Kurt Harris singing under his more familiar name .. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 162.00 Dean Parrish Bricks, Broken Bottles And Sticks This weeks “Black Is Beautiful” offering is a thing of beauty! Scholars of the “Big City Sound” will be all too familiar with the credits of the label and the booming powerful of Dean Parrish’s voice. When a New York’s studio gathering includes Tony Bruno, Victor Milrose, Bert Keyes, Stanley Kahan and Bill Stanley collaborate only one outcome is possible - Sheer POWER awaits your ears. As Dean paints a vivid picture of returning to his home-ground to be greeted with the decline of his neighborhood, in less than three minutes you can see every demolished brick, every discarded broken bottles and unswept sticks everywhere.. A Northern Soul classic that tells an absorbing story whilst you dance.. for the collector the story is impeccable condition and the captivating vista White, Red & Black… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 189.00 Connie Francis It's Gonna Take Me Some Time Some records just get to you … even more so when they come in the form of a gorgeous Red & White DEMO with the major value added factor of there being NO USA release for Connie’s Northern Soul offering This versatile lady with the voice of an Angel was just as comfortable singing Teen, Pop, Country or Rock & Roll; and as she demonstrated with her Popcorn/Northern Soul killer “Fallin’” she quite happy delivering R&B flavoured shakers. On this exclusive 1962 British flipside Connie travels the same route as “Fallin’” with a totally infectious R&B/Popcorn stroller driven by burping horns, twangy guitar and a cheesy smooth male vocal-group chorus of “Bap Do Dap Bap Bap Do Dap” INFECTIOUS!! But as with all Connie Francis recordings, it’s her extraordinary vocal style that lifts this quirky production into greatness. Her talent to deliver lyrics with a quirking “Southern” twang contradicting her “New Joyzee” roots, adds the final ingredient to this most-unusually irresistible disc. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 45.00 Kenny Hamber Let's Do The Camel Walk C/w Camel Walk Philadelphia Northern Soul does not come any harder to find than this avalanche of dance. Jesse James borrows Kenny Hamber from Arctic Records to work on another of his “Horse” “Camel” “Judge” styled vocal/instrumental dancers that were sweeping the USA scene during the later part of the 60s. Jesse had some substantial hits with his penchant for power, but not is this case. This example hardly got past the promo stage. Surprising because it ripples with that trademark horn arrangement, with sax-God Mike Terry inserting some low-blow baritone sax (as he did on “The Horse”) Kenny Hamber’s vocal struts large, as he screams and squeals his way through this juggernaut of a production. To fully appreciate the depth of the studio musicians present, horns check out the instrumental side for the wealth of horns and Mike Terry’s patience, as always only blowing when it really counts! PROPER NORTHERN SOUL and BEYOND-RARE! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 365.00 Barbara Randolf I Got A Feeling C/w You Got Me Hurtin' All Over An head-turning Green & White DEMO! One of two releases The Los Angeles crew “borrowed” from Holland - Dozier - Holland, this one creating a Northern Soul timeless classic! As the wonderful Four Tops original is given the Hal Davis treatment. A reworking that became a hugely popular British all Niter favourite and for many a Youth Club steppingstone into a full-blown Northern Soul lifestyle. Before you today is the so seldom and highly coveted Green & White DEMO in fine clean condition, with only a minuscule blemish on the flipside label (see scan) being it’s only flaw. Iconic is not too strong of a word to use in this case - it was after all a record that influenced and captivated so many Northern Soul recruits. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 97.00 Thrills What Can Go Wrong C/w No One Google all you want - this 45 with Mint minus vinyl as a British Red & White DEMO is UNICORN-RARE!!!! Absolutely our first copy this century, before that the only other copy I remember having was the one sitting in my “English Collection” in the early 1980s - this is a rare piece indeed. Not only rare but also giving up two spectacular girl-group Northern Soul recordings. We lead with the side the Grapevine label, decided to reissue in 1979 prompted by Wigan Casino reactivation. Typically relentless stompin’ classic style Northern Soul that fitted the Casino dancefloor criteria perfectly. Trademark full throttle Bert Keyes arrangement, pulled together by Capitol Records console wizard Marvin Holtzman crafts magical Northern Soul. The flipside however has never received any form of reissue and will delight devotees of the “Brill Building Sound” as the girls turn out an equally fine Sister Beat Ballad that remains mostly-overlooked. Check out this beseeching Northern Soul stroller driven by a full orchestra arrangement, with the lead vocalist turning out an on-your-knees performance with her besties adorning the song with ever soaring choruses. Both sides are stand-out tunes of their genre, and to be presented in this more-the-rare format is not an opportunity to dwell on…When will you see another Red N’ White.. in this condition? Vinyl is totally impeccable, labels are clean except for a very faint (scrutinize the scan) DELES written on the centerpiece. Collecting British does not get anymore satisfying than this.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 350.00
  20. think i'm looking forward to seeing spellbinders more than mitch ryder next march, even though breakout is an all time fav of mine as it's the first record i ever heard as i entered the wheel for the first time. not to worry it should be a great weekend, joe.
  21. John Drevar's Expression The Closer She Gets C/w When I Come Home A British Pink & Silver Grail! The PINK is so glowing, the scanner fails to pick up its brilliance - but I can assure you if you win this summit of Rare British Northern Soul collecting, don the Raybans before opening the packet - an eye-popping experience awaits - would be an understatement! British only and so elusive the “NS Bootleggers” were unable to secure a copy to meet the demand. So as an alternative in 1979 some obscure singer freshly recorded it. So do not confuse in anyway this potent Johnny Harris production of a Teddy Randazzo, Richie Adams & Victoria Pike composition, with dreadfully inferior version from the Nottingham based Destiny label credited to John Drevars. There is absolutely no comparison.. Before you today is a tune that DJ’s in the 70s were so proud to own and even more puffed-up to play. Overloading dancefloors every time it was played… There is no bootleg of it or even a respectable alternative version - before you today is THE REAL DEAL with totally immaculate vinyl. This listing is in honour of the NS contribution DJ Nev Wherry made during his all too brief twin-deck-career. Here’s to you Nev I remember cl;early your enthusiastic introduction and the crowd reaction when you dropped the needle on this tune at Cleethorpes Winter Gardens… immense! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 909.00 M. V. P.'s Turnin' My Heartbeat Up NORTHERN SOUL THE MOVIE Featured not quite so much as “Time” but certainly iconic Wigan Casino as it headed the timeless mid-70s Granada TV “This England” documentary.. who could ever forget those opening vibes as the molten iron slides from the ladle…those instantly recognizable vibes ring out into “Turn in’ My Heartbeat Up..” A Northern Soul classic now for 40 years - still packing the floors everywhere, we thought this would be an ideal Christmas gift for an old-school Casino member, especially as it’s in neat perfect condition… How much do you love your man? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 442.00 Idols Check Her Out C/w Why Am I So Blue One of the seriously RARE U.S.A. label Northern Soul creations. A barrage of brass crashes into violent drum whacks whilst the racing harmonized vocals become more and more euphoric as they annouce “Baby’s Coming Home” A relentless 2 minutes of proper-classic-style STOMPING NORTHERN SOUL! But do not overlook the fine street-corner harmony ballad on the flipside, raw and decidedly impressive.. RARITY is such that this 45 sits comfortably in the top 5 least-seen, most-wanted amongst the labels plethora of obscure and very limited presses. Condition of both sides could hardly be finer.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 794.00 Edwin Starr Time C/w Running Back And Forth NORTHERN SOUL - THE MOVIE From the toilets of the Youth Club the murky Tick-Tock of the intro could just be heard above leaky toilet cistern, slowly getting louder. He re-enters the dance space and BOOM! Edwin Starr is full-on blasting out TIME! That pivotal moment when “one” record captured your imagination and you are enamored..it’s that goose-bump experience, that spine tingle shiver that hooks you into a life of searching for music that ignites that rare sensation. For me it was Al Kent’s - The Way You’ve Been Acting Lately - steadily getting louder as I climbed the wooden stairs into the Trent side “BRIT” club in Nottingham but for many it would have been “TIME” or something similar; just like the youngster in the movie, you were sent on a journey that for the majority has become a lifetime quest.. I thought NORTHERN SOUL - THE MOVIE encapsulated that “sense of being” completely… Go See It… but don’t expect to see the ultimate Green and White DEMO spinning on the turntables…especially a flawless one. PS the flipside is “Crazy About Crossover” Heaven.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 274.00 Heti Lloyd Soul Sister C/w I Met A Guy You are about ran over by an out-of-control runaway vocal of Heti Lloyd a street-level Texas Sister who vocal is perfectly matched to take on an almighty Tsunami of horns and does a Marva Whitney as she outstrips them The sassy Heti Lloyd surely does pack a punch, carried with attitude and the backing male vocals stand back out of her whirlwind presence, as she hits those high notes with consummate ease. A very convincing piece of Deep Funk with inspiring Northern Soul moments in the chorus. Deep Soul fans will appreciate the slow-drag flipside again supported by a blaring horn section that is drown by that all-powerful Sister’s pipes.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 122.00 Mickie Champion What Good Am I (without You) C/w The Hurt Still Lingers On Straight from the USA - certainly this listing has never endured the rigors of the Northern Soul circuit since 1976! This copy is a NS Virgin, vinyl forensics only reveals the light of sleeve brush blemishes, both sides play perfect. Forget Wigan Casino, this was a total monster at Cleethorpes Pier; a girder-warping dancefloor-destroyer with few equals. Unleash that soundfile and imagine 50 foot about the freezing waters of North Sea turbulence, 100s of NS devotees were stomping their hearts out to pure POWER! Still 4 decades on it has exactly the same affect on solid ground, an instant igniter of the dacefloor rush… as that low-blow sax vibrates your back-teeth and Mikki’s squealing vocal style pierces your bones and demands MOVE (and you’ll be treated to skyward trumpet blasts as you dance!) Today I know many of you “get off” on the sultry Beast Ballad flipside..also totally dominant in its own way. Two great sides.. with little or no human contact.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 417.00 Sandra Wright Midnight Affair C/w Wounded Woman An extravagant encounter with a proper Diva Dance Soul!! Only available as the seldom-seen STOCK copy on the flipside of an equally impressive mid-tempo Soulful Stepper, both sides enriched by a brilliant brass section that screams Memphis!!! Both sides for decades have graced the turntables of the more discerning Soul dancefloors; Soul Essence, Just Soulful, The Orwell etc. etc. Places where the accent is placed on the vocally endowed and musically gifted. We lead with the tough to find “Midnight Affair” as Sandra Wright waits for the horns and the piano to set the scene.. then like a Big Cat, she purrs, whines and pleads for late night liaison. Who could resist being taken off to her den, certainly not me; the thought of Sandra’s sighs, as my alarm clock makes me nearly forget the full blown dance experience she’s delivering… The other side is just as convincing - as the feelgood backing deceives - as Sandra struts into the arrangement with pouting defiance and looking for revenge..again with the horns decorate an already fabulous tune and lifting it into a “must own” rating.. What a voice, what a woman, what horns… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 160.00 Major Lance I'm The One C/w Pride And Joy NEVER ISSUED IN THE USA as a single! UK EMI try and cash in the the British Tamla Motown 1965 explosion by digging back into the Okeh catalog to release this 1963 Chicago session of Marvin’s Gaye - Pride And Joy - and in doing so unwittingly discharging a stunning version of the much-loved Impressions recording “I’m The One Who Loves You” entitling it as an abbreviated “I’m The One” it is a tune that most may have overlooked. Personally I love these one-off executive decisions that create real oddities and rare 45s that would otherwise just sit in the vaults or languish, without DJ-love as an album track. Take a listen to “The Major’s” version, it is a truly fabulous take on the Curtis Mayfield creation, benefiting from the artists so familiar unique voice and style. Before you today is a Red & White DEMO with flawless vinyls - gleaming labels who’s only foible is a half-hearted attempt to neatly “score” the NOT FOR SALE text - check over the scan carefully it is minuscule and rather insignificant in the historical story of this “UNIQUE” British 7”’ other exclusive Northern Soul. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 161.00 Doris Duke I'l Make A Sweet Man C/w What Will Tomorrow Bring A Legend In Her Own Time! Since I first heard this Diva’s phenomenal voice on Dave Godin’s Blues & Soul recommendations, I have wondered what would Doris be like on a dance recording; as her Deep Soul offerings are unparalleled, which her two standout Mojo albums will testify. I had to wait a decade or three, as until recently this Massachusetts D.I.Y. label was mostly unknown but debuting on our auction today, we can now revel in Doris’s mighty vocal spewing out a fabulous rare-soulful-dance groove. She certainly loses none of her penetration on this rich horn & string production. Delivering that expressive lyrics, exquisitely manipulated like only she can. So listen to one of the greatest female Soul vocalists ever attack upbeat dance production, but if you need reminding how superior Doris handles the Deep Soul ballad, just flip it over and it’s like old times, dropping a late night needle onto a Mojo LP and falling into a soothing Soulful abyss. Yes, certainly a “Legend In Her On Time” and this his by far her rarest recording… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 386.00 James Shorter Modern Day Woman C/w Ready For The Heartbreak This weeks sleeper, or should we say snoozer… comes on one of Soul’s most-wanted labels, so saturated in distilled emotion. It is hard to believe this disc has never hit the dizzy heights of the labels other NS giants. Listen and you’ll be incredulous too, as The Masqueraders back up James Shorter’s beseeching vocal, who along with wailing girl group who together take this downbeat recording into an eerie cavernous atmospheric place that defies all the rules of Northern Soul. In the case of this records, it is the flooding emotion you’re dancing to not the beat.. real-deal Soul can do that to you. Like it meaty? Just turn it over for a deceptive bluesy intro, then BANG you’re pulled into a relentless slab of Motor City Northern Soul with the Masqueraders adding depth and richness to this proper-NS-dance groove… Change your mood..just flip it back, you’ll not hear another NS tune carrying that alluring but ghostly depth of sensitivity… genius! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 161.00 Shane Martin I Need You Some consider that Paul Anka - I Can’t Help Loving You - is POP and I’ve heard Shane Martin - I Need You - is too. My opinion is Colour of skin and a previous artists recordings do not count for anything when Artie Schroeck is around. He is after all the common denominator with these two Northern Soul Monsters that have endured for decades bigoted snipes from collectors and NS purists who may think that it elevates themselves in some weird way to collect records by selected skin shades. Certainly NOT Pop but two top-drawer examples of total Northern Soul that only the likes of Mr. Schroeck could manufacture from a session. Shane is currently enjoying a huge Northern Soul renaissance being one of the most-requested tunes of the moment. Rightly so, it was a floor-packer mid-70s and is still having the same effect today. So when a rarely seen yellow stock copy surfaces, we feel auction will ensure it safely ends up in your man’s Christmas stockings.. the morale being, never judge a song by colours, and never judge a man who wears stockings during the festive season. But do judge label colours and condition… yellow stock copy in fine clean condition is no easy disc to find Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 327.00 Hamilton Movement She's Gone On God’s Earth is there a finer example of 70s Soulful Dance? WE THINK NOT!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,769.00 Arin Demain Silent Treatment Discovered in Pittsburgh 1977 to become an iconic Cleethorpes Winter Gardens last in the set play, to rise from that lowly position to high priority on collectors wish lists - and remained there ever since. The “Cleethorpes” DJ habit for playing something really slow and soulful as their exit disc, started out as an “in” joke because the next DJ would be playing to a nearly empty dance floor, which was all in good fun to begin with. But when Tony Middleton’s “Paris Blues” rose from Beat Ballad stroller into dancefloor packer, the search was on for similar discs to spin last. Enter “Ernie Lucas” with a perfect candidate, by any standard of the time “Silent Treatment” was a slower than the norm, but shimmered with so much “Real Soul” the appreciation grew and grew so that this disc joined “Paris Blues” on the DJ most-wanted lists.. Today after decades of fruitless searches and challenging quests of trying to grapple a copy away from the few known owners, or sniping a copy on the internet, ended in total frustration for most all who have tried - in short this is one thoroughly Soulful 45 that is damn-difficult to purchase… especially in this near new impeccable condition… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,024.00 Esquires My Sweet Baby C/w Henry Ralph A briefly released in 1972 on the UK Action label and highly sought-after rare # to find in the series. But insignificant by comparison to this the original USA that so seldom comes to market. So check out this play perfect slab of Chicago vocal-group Northern Soul gazing back at you, from its original company sleeve, looking totally gorgeous but paling against the top-drawer NS dancer that lay in the grooves. This Gilbert Moorer and Bunky Bill Sheppard session exceeds even their high standards of production, with a this horn peppered harmony NS Crossover dancer. The trademark falsetto lead, glides on top of the purring harmony choruses with those horns subtly blasting out with perfect timing, crafting a fabulously Soulful Dance tune. This could easily transmit itself in a top tune,as it has been hidden from view for far too long, an under-the-radar beast about to break surface.. Funkers may well dig the quirky dancer on the flipside.. But, all and Soul-sundry will fully appreciate the eye-popping label scan, rare distributors sleeve and the exceptional music it projects… potential is glaring! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 105.00 Tommy Rodgers I'll Tell It To The Wind C/w Pass The Word A Northern Soul rising star of the moment.. offering not one but two sides of sumptuous NS dance. It was not too long ago that “Pass The Word”, the stompier side was the recording being hunted, but back then, it got lost in the avalanche of better NS recordings entering the country at the time. It seems in our haste for the new discovery, the flipside got passed over. Boy, did we miss a real feelgood tune… until more recently an enterprising Jock flipped it over and now it now features on many a DJ wish list. From the very first lilting guitar pluck you know you’re about to hear a slice of class. A mid-paced winner unfolds on a wave of strings, piano, precise plectrum licks, all supporting a gravel-coated at ease vocal supported by a controlled girl group chorus… lush! Over time tastes change and this builder just creeps up, right under your skin to leave the less subtle, formerly endorsed side behind in its wake… Quite brilliant really.. and you will, just like did, find yourself dropping the arm on this delicacy more than once. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 222.00
  22. VAN DYKES LOOKALIKE BOOT WENT FOR £87 ON EBAY THE OTHER DAY
  23. £4.99 POST IS A BIT MUCH FOR 5 45,s METHINKS
  24. Topics Have Your Fun C/w A Man Ain't Supposed To Cry PROPER REAL DEAL FLOOR-DETONATING NORTHERN SOUL. This is very top-end of Rare Northern Soul vocal group stompers not only by rarity but also by it’s sheer quality. Take a listen to what a authentic Northern Soul stomper should sound like. This 45 has THE LOT! Explosive horn intro, Woo-Woo girls arrow the perfect choruses though the impressive wall of sound. Vocally exquisite with the lead voice cracking with that desirable nicotine-coated grit on the high notes, riding those blasting horns so comfortably until a thunderous instrumental break lifts the recording yet another notch. Flip it over and all the same ingredients are again in place to serve up a beautiful mid-tempo Northern Soul stroller perfect for a surprise spin that not many of the crowd will know. We have spoken before about real-rarity sometimes standing in the way of a records progress to a wider audience. Well, hear is another example, a better undiluted slab of Northern Soul would be hard to find only ingredient missing is a turntable outing or two at the bigger venues.. How totally refreshing would this be, to hear it played to a 2000 weekender crowd instead of Sam & Kitty for a change.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,600.00 Jesse Johnson Left Out C/w A Hundred Pounds Of Clay At last a copy that plays perfectly !! The intimidating brass is the perfect match for Jesse Johnson’s pleading voice. Rattling drum work beats out the dance rhythm that takes on a Motown atmosphere as it build towards an almighty horn bridge.. killer stuff But if you flip it over that’s when Mr. Johnson voice comes into it own with a his version of a New York Brill Building standard; A subtle take of “100 Pounds Of Clay” twists and turns into arguably the best version. Two great sides and rarely witnessed in play perfect condition.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 633.00 Royal ( Texas Slim ) Bell Sweet Little Girl C/w Just Can't Give Up Now RARE Northern Soul double hitter from the streets of Compton, California.. Without n”name dropping” this is the type of tune you only hear at “Lifeline” and few other NS events that pride themselves of a menu of the very rare and decidedly good. Another Big Man with an abrasive vocal generates snarling Northern Soul and still retains that feelgood steps to atmosphere within a horn-blasts. We have lead with “Sweet Little Girl” the labels choice of A-side but without doubt “Just Can’t Give Up Now” edges it into second place as the Northern Soul choice of play, for the very few eminent DJs lucky enough to own a copy. Light surface marks but as you can hear is plays LOUD and clean, both labels are free of writing, stains or tears. This is ONE VERY RARE 45 indeed… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 436.00 Marie Knight That's No Way To Treat A Girl C/w Say It Again This weeks “Black Is Beautiful” is a top-notch Wigan Casino and Cleethorpes Pier classic. The label credits are all too familiar as this 1965 is guided by New Yorks finest. Bob Elgin, Victor Milrose, Tony Bruno & Gary Sherman - Giants of the big production take an equally big Diva and smash it.. When this boomed across from the stage at Cleethorpes the response was huge, full orchestra production and Miss Knight ceiling buffeting high notes - inspiring Northern Soul.. Flip it over for a tune not played at either club because its a too slow but if you captivated by the Big City Soul this ballad will move you, Marie again flexes her muscular vocal on the high notes with immense power. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 389.00 Barbara Mcnair You're Gonna' Love My Baby Attention TMG upgraders and seekers of perfection; this 500 series most-wanted is still snug and flawless sitting in its birth-sleeve. A Top Northern Soul spin for decades now, no sign of it’s popularity every declining. That moody approach, the against the norm style of production, is always and always will be a pleasure to hear and dance to. The gorgeous Barbara’s NS classic in this form is almost alluring as the lady herself.. We repeat condition is flawless.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 522.00 Intruders ( You Better ) Check Yourself C/w It Must Be Love Currently receiving a huge revival on Northern Soul turntables but note all you NS White PROMO addicts - this is no easy find - especially in spanking new condition! One of the early works from the now legendary Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff partnership and in line with that mid-60s era - this is perfect Northern Soul from the pairs preferred group. Click the sound file and hold on - you’ll immediately be aware of why this “Beast” is making an explosive comeback.. But on a White Demo - it is by far and away the rarest form you can own it in…but you WHITE DEMO fanatics will have fully known that already. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 159.00 Split Decision Band Watchin' Out C/w Dazed 1978 Des Moines, Iowa D.I.Y. Funk infused dancer that veers just far enough “left” of disco to deliver a muscular slab Soulful Dance. This 45 has been a dancefloor igniter for several decades now without losing any of it’s instant appeal and benefiting hugely from escaping being bootlegged or reissuing of any kind. So be prepared to be lifted by the mix of honkin’ horn relentless rhythmic cymbal brushing.. providing a seamless background for the harmonized vocal to weave their magic. This is modern DANCE at its most compelling.. So flip it over for an Ohio Players styled Hunk of Funk! Snarling angry vocals bulldoze their way this punchy groove with a mix of chants, squeals and rap punctuated by those already familiar horn blasts.. STRONG FUNKER!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 286.00 Jerry Mccain The Jig's Up This weeks R&B thumper comes on one of R&B’s greratest labels from way back in 1957 and this PROMO copy is still utterly flawless. A typical Keb Darge type spin; upbeat, raucous and uncompromising Jump-Blues dripping with power and attitude. You can’t help but want to move once this coveted tune blasts out. Flip it over for the beginnings of the Deep Soul genre as a despairing Mr, McCain serves up a funeral paced story of being jilted at the alter. Highly rated and never witnessed in this standard of condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 56.00 James Reese And The Progessions Jody's Freeze C/w Let's Go (it's Summertime) Freaking awesome blending of Jazz, Latin & Funk are the ingredient for these two highly skilled instrumentals, evoking visions of dimly lit Big City streets, pimps, car chases and crooked cops. Top side ripples with dancefloor inviting Funk riffs and breaks delivered by a gathering of razor sharp musicians displaying impressive dexterity on every note. Fabulous stuff… those trumpets soar.. Having said that I actually much-prefer the scintillating flipside as the arrangement travels down a more “Crossover” route serving up pure Soulful dance without a word being sung. Again the Latin influence is strong, spiced with savvy Jazz interventions but just shimmering with SOUL and offering up flawless trumpet playing that raises the hair.. Personally “Let’s Go (It’s Summertime)” has really got to me, in a way very few records do - totally STANDOUT dance music with blatant potential to do great things in the right hands.. This copy is flawless in every way. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 105.00 Mikki Farrow Set My Heart At Ease C/w Could It Be PIED PIPER you’ve just gotta own them all… Before you today is the authentic first press original - beware of counterfeits - this is the original MGM thin vinyl with sharp to the touch edge, deadwax carries the “Bed” stamped matrix. The record itself is one of the finest examples of not only the “Pied Piper” sound but also as fine a double helping of Detroit Northern Soul, you could ever wish to hear. Top side is consider “classic” with blaring horns right on the intro and Mike Terry’s Baritone Sax prodding away in the arrangement and all the right times. Pied Piper trademark girl choir adding a rich cloak to carry an impressive sax break and Mikki pleading vocal - truly awesome! Today it is the slightly slower and classier flipside “Could It Be” embodies everything Pied Piper was, the emphasis on orchestral backing of Horns, strings, tambourines, a soaring mixed vocal choir and that Mike Terry Bari burping that precisely timed note. PIED PIPER in my eyes unrivaled as a Soul production team - this 45 validates that statement twice over. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 611.00 Viola Wills You're Out Of My Mind C/w Any Time The Big RED “A” was not an exclusive decoration for those gorgeous 60s British EMI labels; Also the UK based President Demo 45s look totally irresistible, decorasted with the “A” red carpet, clashing so conspicuously with the yellow background. But this 45 is so much more than just a pretty face, it also offers up a vocal & instrumental delight for the Northern Soul dancers from its immaculate vinyl. But the most important value-added factor to this Los Angeles creation from BRONCO Records is this recording is her hardest to secure Bronco recording. Amazing that this Barry White and Jim Ford collaboration hit in it’s homeland. With UK President Records trying to emulate the fabulous success they achieved with Felice Taylor’s - I Feel Love Coming On - UK Club hit. Utilizing those shrill “Mustang” ladies for the choruses, woven into a thoroughly uplifting uptempo Northern Soul arrangement, this 1967 release had every chance of following Felice T. with All Nite Club spins - but it unfortunately was overlooked and fell into obscurity. Full marks to President for digging deep into Bronco/Mustang catalog creating what is today an highly elusive British press with the USA counterpart being equally obscure. This DEMO copy is a glittering Mint - in every way - click the soundfile for lift-off into Northern Soul Heaven…check out the label scan and ignore its beauty if you can.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 144.00 Executive Jam I'm Into Your Love C/w I Want You Back In My Arms Again The blend of subtle Funk Wah Wah guitar, considerate soulful horns are just ideal for today’s Rare Soul Scene as it veers away from the silky smooth Soul towards the choppy, changey arrangements. This one boasts an amazing sax break, that is later mirrored by a similar trumpet response… impressive. Catchy, infectious dancer that has been around for decades now, remaining elusive and highly thought of. Time is right for a revisited uprising of this style as the Top Dj’s seek out Soul with “edge”.. This late 70s New Orleans born is in just perfect condition - and we all know about the chances of locating clean New Orleans rarities are in 2014 in a flawless state… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 168.00 Steinways You've Been Leading Me On C/w My Heart's Not In It Anymore How downright elegant does this PROMO in its company sleeve look? So beautiful it has ignited euphoric recall, to when I first heard this delicious-delight of vocal-group Northern Soul. The now legendary 1973 Simon Soussan sales cassette, this was one of the highlights of the C90, as the gang listened on that Transit van journey up the M6 to Blackpool. Fabulous selection.. Lou Ragland - I travel Alone, Billy Joe Young - I’ve Got You On My Mind Again, Country Store - Caught With My Heart Down along with this recording became earworms for the weekend. So when I had the chance of a copy - I jumped at it - then I played the B-side (not on the tape) and I was in raptures… So much so when my friends wanted my 50 count carry-case of goodies to take to the local RAF base on a Thursday night I handed it over with the instructions “..get the DJ to play The Steinways..!” Well my friends manage to lose the whole box of 45s by leaving it on the top of their car as they drove off - I never found them and have been waiting 40 years for my Steinways to turn up with my deadwax squibblings - John Manship, 25 Baldocks Labe, Melton Mowbray, Leics - firmly scratched into the run-out. My copy by the way was a stock copy - no where near as ravishing as this PROMO that has set me off reminiscing.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 211.00 Workshop You're My Greatest Hit C/w Do It Yourself This weeks Sweet Soul offering carries the power of the rare 70s Soul 45 as a stock copy offering two sides; instead of the promo counterparts single offering. This glorious Jeff Lane production is as sweet as soul gets, a Stylistics clone with full orchestra arrangement of lush strings, clean piano work accompanies a silky smooth lead vocal, aided by a falsetto that takes flight at all the right times. This has been a sought after Japanese want for as long ass I can remember, what I can’t remember is ever having the stock copy with a b-side. The flipside is a Funk dancer that may not set the world on fire but what it will do is complete a collection of this groups only TWO recordings. For the serious about being complete, let me assure you the opportunity to do so with a STOCK copy of this just does not pop up. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 50.00 Cajun Hart Got To Find A Way A British Demo Grail in astonishing MINT condition. A Northern Soul monster that is tough to secure on the USA release, near impossible as the British press, but in this utterly flawless condition..ownership is imperative for the OCD vinyl hound or seeker of Northern Soul classic records in their rarest form; as you just never see this format for sale. We doubt very much if we shall ever encounter the 45 year old in this condition ever again.. Click the memorable soundfile - then act accordingly… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 511.0
