Otis Lee Hard Row To Hoe Gary Spencer’s former Lee Blackmore and the Soul Searchers cover-up that rose from the sleepy hollows of East Anglia to shake the dancefloors of Britain throughout the early 90s right up to today’s Niter’s.. The Earth-moving rhythm makes for a compelling dance-draw.. as moody Blues, is sweetly infused into a cocktail of honkin’-horns, whirling-keyboard nonchalantly driving the rhythm - the seasoned Otis Lee vocal fits snugly into this laid back style of arrangement… enriching the session with each and every word… I particularly love the ending with the “rapping” close.. Sounds as good today as it ever did; dare we say this tune is more popular now than it’s ever been and this copy is a shocking MINT still in its plain birth-sleeve. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 832.00 Jimmy Burns Can't Get Over / Where Does That Leave Me So very much rarer than “I Really Love You” and way more soulful too..does Rare-Soul collecting get anymore satisfying than this? This is Top-Drawer Northern Soul Crossover at its majestic-best. This beauty screams “Soul Essence” Saturday afternoon, “Simply Soul” “The Orwell” “Just Soul” or any Rare & Under-played room anywhere in the world.. Underplayed because hardly anybody owns a copy - underplayed because this is Real-Deal Chicago Soul for the decidedly-discerning-dancers only. Pure distilled SOUL - it don’t get no better than this.. Flip it and weep - impossible to acquire Deep Soul at it’s most moving as Jimmy asks “Where Does That Leave Me” aided by subtle male vocal-group support, delivered at exactly the right time..bliss! TWO SIDES TO DIE FOR!! … and unfortunately most all of us will die, without owning a copy…. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 798.00 Enchantments I'm In Love With Your Daughter Part 1 & 2 When first unleashed on the unsuspecting British Northern Soul dancefloor, this rasping-romp as aptly covered up as “The Detroit Shakers”. Because from the first note to the last, this baby shakes the house… But perhaps from a collectors viewpoint there are two more important factors to consider; condition of both vinyls and both labels is flawless; plus as you have already recognized this is the rarely encountered ORANGE label variation as opposed to the “light blue” label press… So strap yourself in, click and hold on tight.. the Enchanters are about to whisk you off on a bumpy Northern Soul journey.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 462.00 Symphonies That's What Love Will Do / Need Someone To Love We have no doubt you are viewing, at long last, this 60’s quintessential independent Soul label’s RAREST 45, But this vinyl “Big Foot” is so much more than just a previously seemingly nonexistent number in this highly collectable series - it is also a superior slab a Sister-Harmony-Soul that will awaken every one of your senses, as the girls convincingly portray their despair ,so sweetly on BOTH sides. Topside is a Rose Marie McCoy “warning” of what love can do to a young girls heart & mind… excruciating Deep Soul. Flip it over to be stopped in your tracks by the lead vocal’s grief-stricken search for “someone To Love” cradled by a her girlfriends rich harmony choruses. Two sides of premier “Sweet Soul” that both pull you into an abyss of emotion.. So acutely rare we have no qualms about shouting from the rooftops; this is our FIRST COPY in memory and how pleased are we to be able to present it to you today.. Listen & weep… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 151.00 Embraceables Let My Baby Go / Here I Go Pearl Jones and the girls with a double helping of real-deal Detroit Northern Soul on an iconic Motor City label.. Seldom seen for sale…and begging the question why this driving-female-force is not on everybody’s lips asking why this tune is not one of Northern Soul’s most-wanted with the Rarest Of The Rare genre… After-all it does surge with every fundamental characteristic required to moooovve the Northern Soul dance-floor. Pearl’s lead vocal is just perfectly pitched for those pleading lyrics.. .. then we check out the label credits, revealing two Detroit studio virtuosos in the form of Dale Warren & Johnny Powers were directing proceedings; all is now clear why this is such a distinctive tune.. The same pairing constructed the flipside - I cannot wait to drop the needle on it for the first time in memory… WOW it’s every note as impressive - brilliantly sulking mid-tempo blending strings with horns, the ideal cradle for haunting girls and that leading voice to spring from. How long can this killer lay neglected on the flipside… not long… as it has totally blown me away… wait for the instrumental break and Pearl’s eerie rap at the end… resist ownership if you can.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 413.00 Jimmy Ruffn I've Passed This Way Before / Tomorrow's Tears Jimmy’s follow up to his biggest hit “What Becomes Of The Broken-Hearted”. Saw Motown again enlisting the services lyricist James Dean & William Weatherspoon to see if the pair could match his previously Top 10 chart position each side of the Atlantic, with another “Sad-Song” Although this wistful-stroller “hit” it was not as big and Jimmy’s chart positions never again hit the heights of “Broken-Hearted” But still considered a top Motown classic that in this form as a TMG DEMO it is considered a premier collectors piece… So listen again to Jimmy’s vocal perfectly interpret the “Sad Song” like only Jimmy Ruffin’s vocal could, whilst benefiting from a Motown full orchestra back up - most likely the vocal of The Originals & The Andantes augmenting proceedings.. To own this great song in this format is of course the ultimate… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 110.00 Eloise Laws Baby Doll Unissued 1972 Invictus recording with the delectable Ms Laws, who never disappoints.. If, like me you adored her “Love Factory” NS classic; this mid-tempo delight, that never left those Detroit vaults will certainly flip your stomach over… as it carries that familiar atmosphere that became Holland - Dozier - Holland trademark after their liberation from Motown… It’s all there, the convincingly beseeching Eloise Laws vocal crouching in desperation between lush strings, piano, bongos, cymbals and guitar. The imploring lyrics so perfectly served up, whilst riding fabulous strolling Northern Soul dance rhythm… VERY SPECIAL!! but what would you expect from Invictus…”special” was their norm This 10” studio acetate offers up the 45rpm 3.14 edit and the lengthen 33rpm 3.49 minute takes, the later take is low volume but the3.14 take belts it out loud & clean - awaiting for the DJ to wow the crowd with… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 455.00 Round Robin Kick That Little Foot Sally Ann Northern Soul dance styles of music may have changed many times over the years but the “Old-School” Niter Boys will need no reminding that “Round Robin” was a MONSTER Twisted Wheel spin.. Such a “Monster” it received the nod from Leicester’s “King” of the rare soul reissue when in 1968 it was the 8th. record in the series of 28, on the now highly-sought-afger Soul Sounds label. At the time it was 4 years old and a near “impossible” to find 45. That’s why it was honored with a “Soul Sounds” limited press. now nearly 50 years later, before you is the gorgeous head-turning WHITE DEMO with darn-close MINT vinyl and two near flawless labels labels…just a very light grease mark from a previous file # sticker. Dog-Rare and dripping in history and glittering in sublime condition… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 85.00

Andre & Zero Plus Sparkle In A Woman's Eye / Chump Change When a record you’ve never seen before come with a dedication on the label “To Aunty Mary - Andre” you know you are looking at disc that most probably only got as far as family and friends. And that is a crime, as Soul harmony of this quality.. te world needs to hear. This weeks Sweet Soul treat is a ghostly silky-string decorated mid-pace stroller displaying luxurious vocal that sail high above the jazzy arrangement.. A razor-sharp falsetto slices the air on a flying-carpet of harmonies prompt by a constant plucking of a single violin string… an impressive string break marries the whole production together. Classy stuff Andre, very classy I bet you made Aunty and the rest of the family proud…. now the world can hear your Sweet Soul masterpiece Flip as you’s expect from the title is a slice of Chicago street-funk.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 577.00 Rain Out Of My Mind Near Impossible… as this unicorn-RARE, Red/Black & White label design Promo and… baring no resemblance what so ever to the very first copy ever played on the Northern Soul scene by inimitable DJ “Poke” at Cleethorpes Pier - he debuted this tune over the North Sea as a miss-pressed Brownstone 4202 with the label reading “Vicki Anderson - I’m Too Tough For Mr. Big Stuff” A far cry from Miss Funk herself to girl-vocal Northern Soul - and it was quite some time before it’s true I identity was know. Even back then and absolutely now, I don’t think I’ve witnessed more than a couple of copies with this THREE-COLOUR PROMO design. A listing that will spark long-thought from those many of you in hot-pursuit of the Rarest Format, when it comes to amassing the real-deal Northern Soul classics.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 138.00 Herbert Hunter Happy Go Lucky Now here’s a man who could sing a logarithms book and it would sound immense! Welcome, Ted Jarrett’s prodigy, the crooner who gave us the immortal “I Was Born To Love You” with his other top-drawer Northern Soul contribution. But this time it is so very much rarer. It has always mystified why one particular 45 on a label is rare and another just impossible. Our data reveals this “Happy Go Lucky” as infinitely rarer than his better known classic, but pulsates with all the same qualities.. That huge vocal, the uplifting Ted Jarrett production, the squealing enthusiasm from the backing girls. It’s all there - it’s only the unquestionable rarity that has stunted it’s growth from growing into an equally revered tune.. Having said that there has been some inspirational Lone-Wolf DJs over the years who have been solidly behind it, giving birth to a strong underground appreciation… Well here’s your chance to join those “Lone-Wolf” Jocks and add more weight to it’s elbow…What ever takes to become a NS dance-floor-favourite this 45 has it all - except blanket exposure… the shackles of genuine rarity strike again. This is a tune that begs to be set free.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 162.00 Ty Karim You Just Don't Know / All In Vain The under-recorded but highly appreciated “Queen Of Los Angeles Soul” 60s Soul that is - when this indomitable songstress’s every recording was a flawless testament to the neighborhood talent that crafted exactly what the European Soul collected was drawn to… and this lady is universally considered THE best California ever offered. Before you today is this radiant lady’s most-valued 45; in sparkling flawless condition - with the topside exploding with every component that makes Northern Soul great, and a flipside that gives up an on-her-knees performance that is consider her finest “Deep Soul” moment. The incomparable Ty Karim at her vibrant best… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 985.00 Willie Mitchell Driving Beat - 7" Jukbox Mini Lp Amazing this near 50 year old, remains unopened, still sealed, complete with 85% shrink wrap intact plus as you can see the 6 titled inserts for the jukebox are still “as new”. As are the two thumbnail album cover replicas awaiting 1966 jukebox display. For the serious condition-conscious Northern Soul classic original hunters, It does not get better than this.. The six tracks read like they were especially selected for a “Willie Mitchell does Northern Soul” CD Everything Is Gonna Be Alright Nick-O-Demus The Champion pt 1 That Driving Beat Fat Cat Smiley Noting that the floorshaking soundfile sample is from a long ago listing and is only for reference… … snippet reminder of why legendary Northern Soul turntable master John Vincent made this “at the time” album only track “The Champion” the biggest dancefloor-detonator in the UK. Sheffield’s Samantha’s Allniter signature tune and a Wigan Casino anthem…Mr. Vincent was never one to compromise.. FULL-ON Northern Soul being his trademark for decades.. This &” 6 mini-lp was John Vincent’s launchpad for what became a near 40 year NS love-affair and still today igniting the dancefloor dash as the few opening bars are unleashed.. We repeat - still seal and unplayed. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 261.00 Unknown Girl Group Gonna Be Some Lovin' / Don't Let Your Heart As far as we know this magnificent circa 1964 girl group acetate is unique… and never released. Feelgood New York, Motown-inspired Northern Soul mostly likely produced by girl-group doyen Richie Barrett. Using one of his many girl-vocalists he could call on… …maybe Beverly Marcel, Shelia Ferguson or even a Veneers unissued session, but this is of course is all Manship conjecture, as the label reveals very little. One thing is for certain this “SPECTORIOUS” production was hanging onto the coattails of Phil Spector and his huge success at the time; Lenny Hodes’s brazen use of “Spector” name may have been considered disrespectful, but the Spectorious set-up did craft some outrageously fine Girl-Group recordings of its own. Notably Arlene Smith - Good Girl - and the label did enlist some of New York’s finest, Junior Bea, Sammy Lowe, Richie Barrett and the drumming usually provided by Pamama Francis. This recent “find”, at this moment in time we can only guess who’s singing, who’s producing, who anyone is on the session… One thing is for sure, your ears are treated to superlative mid-60s Girl Group ideal for the Northern Soul circuit. Whilst the serious Girl-Group collector will be gagging to get his hands on…the raucous flipside saturated by an insane saxophonist.. I love rarity, but I equally adore mystery especially of this high quality…Any extra information about of this jewel is of course most-welcome.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 225.00 Troy Johnson I Want You / This Ain't The Way Late 70s Los Angeles Soulful dance rarity; a deliciously uplifting mover bristling with brass, shrill ladies and an acutely pleading lead vocal. Jimmy Jones directs the horns, that frantically stab through the lilting arrangement, but so precisely time so not to overwhelm the vocals leaving the recording a crisp clean dancer rippling with Soul. Love it. The side Jimmy Jones decided to lead with is also a worthy listen. The pace drops but none of the beseeching delivery, squealing girl back-up or those potent horns, everything is again present and correct.. Two strong sides with “I Want You” being a long-appreciated “Soulful Dance” must have.. Radio Station I.D. stamp on one label is its only forgivable flaw. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 282.00 Carolyn Crawford When Someone's Good To You / My Heart An eye-watering Red & White DEMO from this highly regarded Motown-Angel with her only UK single release from her impressive Motown offerings. As you can see & hear - condition is blinding.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 162.00 Mamie P. Galore No Right To Cry / Do It Right Now The much-loved Chicago Songbird, with her most-wanted, least seen and finest Northern Soul recording. Mamie Galore became the Northern Soul Darling circa 1970 when her “It Ain’t Necessary” hit the very top of the then flourishing Northern Soul scene. With youngsters like me reading Blues & Soul adverts for the Top-Clubs of the time, sitting in awe oggling the play listings of artists I knew nothing of… Catacombs adverts would amaze with their invitation to come and hear; Johnny Sayles, Richard Temple, Mamie Galore etc. During the early 70s there was rumors of an even better Mamie Galore recording on Sack. The mind-boggled and it was some time before I heard it and even longer before I actually saw a copy in all its glory, residing in Soul Sam’s DJ box. Owning this 45 has always been an unreasonable challenge to complete. Super-Rare and giving up “perfectly” crafted Northern Soul from Wally Roker’s & Monk Higgins “Special Agent” team. Click the sound file and wonder what if this Mamie recording was found before “It Ain’t Necessary”? What a test that would have presented the collector/DJ to try and emulate the standard the Catacombs was setting… Near 45 years later this 45 is still 1000’s of times rarer than her St. Lawrence anthem… and dare we say.. some way better. This copy has some light surface marks but as you can fully hear it plays clean & true… Take note, Deep Soul depressives take time to hear the sorrowful flipside.. truly unobtainable DEEP! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 388.00 The Motown Story Compiled By Blues & Soul 1970 The utterly rare 1970 compiled by Blues & Soul (5 Shillings) MOTOWN STORY. A stand alone limited run celebrating the 10th. Anniversary of the “Motown Sound” A jaw-dropping 36 page part colour publication that basically misses nobody out. Artist pictures and articles on Diana Ross & The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Four Tops., Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Mary Wells, Kim Weston, Tammi Terrell, Jackson Five, Edwin Starr, Marv Johnson, Rare Earth, Bobby Taylor, The Contours, The Egins, Jimmy Ruffin, Kiki Dee, Chuck Jackson, Jr. Walker, Marvelettes, Spinners, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles,Gladys Knight & The Pips, Martha & The Vandells, Brenda Holloway, Blinky, Velvelettes, The Fantastic Four, Shorty Long… individual bio and picture of every one of the above.. Plus an up to 1970 “complete” Tamla Motown UK Discography of 45s and albums.. and just to show how much discographies of the time were inaccurate 1/2 the release are missing - personally I love that touch of nativity within this truly fabulous tribute..easily the finest of its type. Fine clean condition - the Discography has the previously owners collection noted -n another nice touch for historical provenance… 5 shillings or 25 New Pence in 1970 - today priceless referencing… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 36.00 Inconquerables For Your Love / Wait For Me RESERVE NOT MET You are viewing one of the planet’s rarest Northern Soul 45s! Not only ludicrously-impossible RARITY but also a magnificently raw-vocal-group dancer from the highly lusted-after FLODAVIEUR label. Dave Polk’s Soul / Jazz vehicle for local Los Angeles talent; guided by his impressive skills for producing fine Northern Soul with a difference. Not forgetting his belated reputation for stand-out Jazz & Doo-Wop released on his Vistone label. A grievously overlooked genius by the USA public was Mr. Polk… Dave made his Northern Soul mark in the late 90s with the discovery of the fabulous Antellects 45 “Love Slave” still very rare today. But this absurdly-rare-NS-Ghost is even harder to acquire, as the vocal-group flipside is considered a Doo-Wop trophy-piece. Take a listen to this staggering example of vocal-group Northern Soul, whilst the serious Doo Wop collectors check out the flipside.. … then cast your eye over the “brilliant Yellow-vinyl” label scan.. totally awesome vista! We think you’l agree with us, as we shout “this is our most-impressive auction listing in quite some time…” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,021.00 Dobie Gray What A Way To Go It has always puzzled me why this record has been Dobie’s rarest 45 for 4 decades and more. All his other 60s 45’s are relatively easy to locate; but this baby has been a Northern Soul ghost, relentlessly elusive almost a vinyl apparition. Super-Rare it may be but that is not its only attraction. Click the soundfile to liberate addictive-feel-good Northern Soul. Simple but zippy piano intro is lifted by blaring horns, wailing flute and Dobie’s blossoming enthusiasm, weld together for highly effective Northern. Like all stand-out recordings this session grows and grows..mushrooming into an uplifting dancer you’ll find yourself singing out loud. Another fab-tune tat has suffered over the decades from it’s own severe-rarity… A surefire “Niter-Sound” if I’ve ever heard one… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 189.00 Outsiders Time Won't Let Me Oh the beauty of the British Red & White DEMO dazzles again! The Outsides one of those few “Blue-Eyed” gatherings that just had the knack of consistently spewing out dynamic Northern Soul. Influenced by Tom King’s penchant for the “Soul” sound, mixed with his mindset for rebellious dance music The Outsiders “sound” ripped into Wigan Casino’s atmosphere every Saturday night. This was rightly a huge hit in the USA but in the UK upon release, it fell through the cracks completely unnoticed by Radio stations and collectors alike. Seldom encountered as the 1966 British release… but as a near perfect Red & White DEMO it’s something of trophy. Listen to uncompromisingly bold Northern Soul - then gaze upon its undeniable beauty… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 161.00 Carl Douglas Serving A Sentence Of Life This is what we said about the last promo copy we auctioned An highly respected member of that exclusive club of BRITISH ONLY release 45s. That tick all the Northern Soul quality control boxes. Totally RARE, darn fantastic Northern Soul, validated vintage classic a beautiful head-turner into the bargain But there’s always a reason for some of these Brit-Exclusives capturing the very essence of Northern Soul - the catalyst in this case being Pierre Tubbs. Pierre collaborated in the studio with the likes of Sidney Barnes, J. L. Jackson etc. Now there’s a pairing that crafted some truly awesome Northern Soul classics. So two years later after rubbing shoulders with the greats of our music, Pierre Tubbs brought traces of New York Soul to the UK giving the then raw 26 year old Jamaican Carl Douglas the job of belting out his fine vocal through, this horn-riddled Northern Soul masterpiece. Huge tune at The Torch, Cats, Blackpool Mecca, pre-Wigan Casino’s birth and another lasting legacy for the relentless British crate-digging troops who left no stone unturned in the exploration for the “next” tune. Oh Boy, whoever first discovered this killer - must have leaped for joy all the way home…! Before you today is the Insanely-Rare STOCK copy! View scan and prepare for a saliva gush.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 319.00 Fire I'm Good For You / Freedom A listing for those of you who seek genuine obscurity giving up quality dance soul.. look no further THIS IS RARE!!! At the beginning of the summer of 1968 with San Francisco mourning the “death Of he Hippie” and “Haight-Ashbury” flowers wilted. Local record producer and lyricist Ray Columbus turned to Soul; guiding local Bay-Area band “Fire” through this terminally RARE double helping of vocal group Northern Soul. Blaring horns, rattling kettle-drums make way for an urgent lead supported by equally enthusiastic harmony vocals. Relentless horns keep the jerking dance rhythms pumping away as the vocals get more and more exuberant. Flip it over and the same musicians are thumping out those honkin’ horns, rumbling drums, this time the arrangement gets a little Funkier with the vocal-group responding to that challenge brilliantly.. RARE? We never even knew it existed..!!! A Manship Auction debutant… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 88.00

TWO BIDDING EACH OTHER UP AGAIN

Supremes Stoned Love Picture the scene…October 1970 a young upstart Northern Soul DJ had just received his regular “Record Corner” new releases - opening the packet, a USA Motown 1172 stared back at him.. straight onto the turntable went “Stoned Love” ! As you’d expect it took the man’s breath away… he could not wait to get this tune on the decks tonight at Wrexham’s hot-spot for Soul… “Pepper’s Place” . On the hour every hour SOUL SAM spun “Stoned Love” to an overwhelmed audience..by the end of the evening it was Martin Barnfather #1 tune.. the rest of course is history as Frank Wilson’s masterpiece, soon became a the UK release hitting # 3 in the charts.. The point being, for the last 45 years Soul Sam has lost not a crumb of his enthusiasm for being first with the “New” sound.. Respect Martin Respect! Oh the record - it is an unblemished spanker of a 1970 UK Demo - bristling with Northern Soul kudos.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 189.00 Butlers With Frank Beverly Because Of My Heart / I Want To Feel I'm Wanted Beyond RARE - beyond words!! Look, listen and swoon…after all it is a record, everyone should try to own at some point in their life - but very, very few ever will. RAREST OF THE RARE but so much more than that… THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL at its utmost finest BOTH SIDES!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 3,024.00 Terrible Tom We Were Made For Each Other / Loving Cup Rare STOCK copy addicts, a more perfect example of the genre would be hard to imagine.. An instant Wigan Casino anthem from its inception… An aggressive, angry tune - a proper raise-arms inducer as the “Woo’s Woo’s” instantly hit fever-pitch immediately after, that urgent drum roll opening … The growling gnarled “Tom” vocal is inexplicably out-shone by those penetrating girly shrieks - this is “Woo-Woo” NS at its most explosive! Loud, positive & destructive; not a punch pulled as the session builds & builds.. Visions of highly sprung backdrops, out of control spinning and the sea of arms held aloft as those girls nail the choruses.. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL In a format and in a condition that rarely comes to market - do not pass by.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 362.00 Groovettes Think It Over Baby / Ain't A Thing You Can Do About It Philadelphia boy, Billy Jackson’s brief flirt with California Soul gave birth to one of the most-wanted of all the Northern Soul girl-group rarities. As this, relegated to a B-side, gives up the sound in its moodiest form.. Utterly captivating, as a gathering of sulking girls, are driven forward on wave of rhythmic drums and pounding piano work, a typically inventive Billy Jackson arrangement, elevated even higher by the intrusion of the low-blown saxophone.. The alluring lead vocal, gives up an on your-knees plea for a second-chance and when the sax revisits the session is lifted into Northern Soul immortatity… A record that you can never tire of hearing - stand-out and so decidedly different from anything else you’ll ever hear. AWESOME!! Give the flipside your ear also, as Billy Jackson thought this was good enough to lead with.. Please note, the blinding condition of this rarity - both vinyl and labels are utterly flawless…ACTUALLY THE FINEST COPY I’VE EVER SEEN! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,007.00 Jackie Wilson He's So Fine Stupidly hard-to-find Original 1958 British press. This is his very first album release, so very hard to find, no matter which country it comes from. As a British copy with near perfect vinyl, this album is a prize indeed. Both sides of the vinyl are so very clean, A-side vinyl has only one light blemish across track 1 & 2 so light no needle evidence sounds. B-side vinyl is totally clean Mint -. Both labels are Mint -, center-holes reveal only light signs of sparse spindle intrusion. Original 1958 poly-lined inner sleeve is Mint - Front cover is free of tears, writing, sticker marks or unsightly laminate creasing. Carefully check the scan you may notice two very light black + purple stains (under the laminate) this on the front-right-top, they are tiny and not intrusive on the eye. Back cover this flaw is carried over covering a slightly larger area. Please inspect high quality scans of front & back covers for the visual - stains are very light and the only discernible flaw this whole album carries.. This 1958 history making first release for one of Soul’s “True Icons”…ridiculously difficult to acquire. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 186.00 Otis Busch Can I Depend On You / Peace Of Mind Most likely the highly regarded Jerhart label’s first 45, seemingly one of Chicago’s “impossibles”. Strap yourself in for an out-of-control juggernaut of Northern Soul R&B from the desk of one of Windy City’s most-effective Soul producers “Bob Lee” Most-all of Bob’s “Hawk” productions are stand-out top-quality examples of street-level D.I.Y. limited press Soul. With a vast majority fitting perfectly into the “Northern Soul” socket. Notabe the equally elusive “David Gage’s” revamp take on the same song “Can I Depend On You” This example is ridiculously obscure, only my 2nd copy in memory and both have the labels reversed. Which probably answers the question of it’s serious obscurity, as with many miss-pressed 45s, they end up discarded and destroyed and in this case pressed again on the “Cha-Cha” #730 this too is so very hard to locate. So click the soundfile to discharge totally persuasive neighborhood R&B profiting from Mr. Lee unquestionable talent for crafting the potent session. The compulsory squealing girl-group, honkin’ horns and a whiskey-worn vocal fuse for a compelling dancefloor-bomb, saturated in all the right ingredients required to turn-heads. Rare and begging to meet an enthusiastic DJ seeking something to spin, that every other Jock don’t own!! Deep Soul enthusiasts will enjoy the flipside.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 277.00 Grover Mitchell What Hurts Philadelphia’s finest come together to make the most outrageously brilliant slab of 70s Northern Soul. It is a mystery to me why this hasn’t become one of the NS scenes biggest tunes… it has of course graced the more-discerning events turntables for decades now… but the more pure Northern Soul establishments, it sadly seems to have been overlooked. So darn good.. take time to listen to this Len Barry & Sherman Marshall collaboration delivering thoroughly inspired 70s Soulful dance, thankfully avoiding all those annoying “Disco” cliches that destroyed far too many Soul infused dance-recordings during the 70’s. Told you…totally brilliant isn’t it. .. So now consider owning this delight, in by far its most-desirable least-seen format. An immaculate British DEMO inside an original company sleeve.. Irresistible! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 121.00 Ray Pollard The Drifter C/w Let Him Go (and Let Me Love You) The thrill of the chase, the find, the capture… When I was 10 years of age my biggest buzz of my first decade was actually catching Christine Carter in the school playground.. cornered, unable to escape.. I stole the kiss I dreamt about.. 4 years later, that elation was totally eclipsed, when, with my Dad watching I scored a 15 yard volley from an Ian Newham cross for Melton Swifts one Sunday morning - the perfectly sweet contact I made, still stays with me today.. Many years later whilst stalking the river Eye with my young son, a free-line piece of cheese tempted a monstrous 6lb Chub to my hook and eventually onto the bank my most impressive fish I ever caught.. Yesterday I was rummaging through a box of neglected 45s and I found this stunner in immaculate condition… s Sorry to Christine, my Dad and the glittering fish; But all of the three above memorable moments in my over 60 years of rather ordinary life.. cannot compare to the tumultuous euphoria of the vision this Red & White PROMO of one of Northern Soul most-coveted British releases… Vinyl finds - you can’t beat them. Opening the packet after achieving ownership of this legendary trophy, will no doubt be, like me, in your top 5 most-memorable moments too.. Condition is blinding.. one light brief surface blemish.. from years of isolation. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 680.00 Hitsville U.s.a. 2 See You In March! Dear Swinger & Friend.. that was Dave Godin’s opening greeting for his groundbreaking HITSVILLE U.S.A. fanzine.. this example dedicated to welcoming the Motown Revue for their March 1965 tour of England - see tour schedule.. This example is the very RARE Tamla Motown Appreciation Society February 1965 20 page booklet crammed with essential reading: Marvin Gaye feature with two photos Temptations - 1 photo Ike & Tina Turner feature as the “People We Like” (who are not Motown 3 pages of Record Reviews Lamont Dozier feature + photo Clive Stone’s 4 page report on his visit to Detroit The HOT 20 CHART - and so much more .. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 106.00 Kenny B. Love Doesn't Live Here Any More / Say It Ain't So A Deep Soul trophy-piece shrouded in mystery. The first assumption was that this New York conceived Deep Soul treasure, was the work of Kenny Ballad, but according to the world’s foremost Deep Soul guru John Ridley, he is now having second thoughts of the singers identity, after consulting Japan’s leading Soul experts. The conclusion being that maybe this is not Kenny Ballad but some other New York obscure Soul-singer, with maybe a solitary 45 to his name. So listen to why the eminent-doyens of the sound find it necessary to discuss in depth, this superlative ballad. Horace Ott conducted horns recoil as the impressive vocal grapples with the despairing lyrics, sympathetically soothed by a Gospel-inspired Sister-choruses. As Kenny B. vocal cracks, squeaks and begs as he pleads to “be free”, those horns respectfully purr away in the background. Top-Drawer Deep Soul - it don’t get any better or obscurer than this Windsor King production. Flip it over to encounter a potential Northern Soul “Funk-infused” monster.. But the ballad-side is so impressive - my enthusiasm for Northern Soul offering has been dampened. So very RARE and rightly deserving of the focused worldwide discussion.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00 Unknown Girl Group Spellbound As far as we know this New York 10” acetate is unissued, so if you’re the type of DJ who covets exclusives - look no further - click the 100% Northern Soul soundfile and prepare to be dazzled by this superior version of The Poppies album-ONLY recording. We got lucky when this “exclusive” came back to us in a deal with a man who’s DJ explotites have taken him off on a more Funky journey, as he turns his back on distilled-Northern Soul, for ventures new… This is undiluted Proper Girl-Group Northern that I would like to tell you more about - when we first sold it in the early part of the century we did uncover with some help who the artist was…this info has unfortunately left me over the ensuing years… What we can say without contradiction, is the lead vocal on this recording, is a swoon-worthy voice of an Angel, an alluring siren that instantly hooks you into multiple needle-drops. Perfect Northern Soul for the dancefloor; as most-all will remember the Poppies version from their Cleethorpes Pier - Wigan Casino days.. and these mystery girls do it up - even sweeter! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 234.00 E. J. & The Echoes Put A Smile On Your Face / People Say Stock copy junkies, we think you’ve been adequatey looked after this week - So how about the equally “ill” white Demo buffs. Our files reveal this is a tough one to find - especially with two totally perfect labels and neat clean vinyl. But this listing is so much more than just a label vista…this tune has grown in reputation beyond all recognition in recent years as the pleading mid-tempo is now an acceptable “drop” at the more-astute venues… Click the sound file and prepare for a real-Soul experience from Detroit’s E. J. Gronda and the boys; This lush production, where every participant is deeply conveying the pain…an anguished Manny Holcolm lead, enriched by 3 part harmony & the compulsory soothing girl choruses; with a rhythmic guitar shaping the mood. That works just as well for the absorbed dance-floor shuffler, as it does for the Soul armchair-activist. Spectacularly Soulful, strutting this page in its rarely witnessed attire… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 110.00 Du Shons You Better Think It Over C/w Take These Chains (from My Heart) A truly stand-out Chicago Northern Soul girl group killer, that just does not turn up for sale, in this current century; especially in this flawless condition! Burgess Gardner & Chuck Bernard team up to write & produce steamrollering Northern Soul, that rattled the foundations of Wigan Casino and the stanchions of the fabled Cleethorpes Pier. Those blaring horns sending extra ripples out into the North Sea, as the stampede for floor-space triggered by those invading horns and the intrusive low-blow burping Sax. This is a Northern Soul Oldie screaming to replace Sam & Kitty as the 15 times a weekend play.. is it because even the alternative 2nd “Down To Earth” press is also elusive, that this just does not get the NS turntable time it so obviously justifies. Click the soundfile and await Real-Deal Northern Soul benefiting from a “no- corners-cut” FULL-ON floorshaking production, lacerated by ear-piercing bad-attitude ladies. Sweet Soul harmony aficionados, you need to check out the dreamily soulful flipside. That same beseeching lead vocal, cradled by a team of male vocals doo-da-da-wopping away in the background. The horns have been tamed, adding a befitting sorrowful atmosphere to such a poignant song. Two killer sides - with the topside a strong candidate for this years belated renaissance of The Wigan & Cleethorpes neglected tunes. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 344.00 Powerhouse You Turn Me On C/w Classy, rare and totally infectious, Illinois indie. This 1980 Soulful Dance groove has the power to pull you into its slow-burn atmosphere, as the swirling keyboard jells the contagious rhythm. Lead vocal uses just enough attitude keeping it smoothly flowing, until a deliciously pitched vocal-group harmony joins. Slow-burn indeed, as this Funk infused dancer surges on with wave of horns, chorus and an ever increasingly exuberant lead vocal, prompted by compelling guitar picking.. Love this the more I hear it - this really is a tune that creeps under your skin. The flipside doesn’t disappoint either - as the sax-man leads with a mellow intro into an inviting mid-paced stroller using all the ingredients of the a-side. Tight harmonies, sultry saxophone headline in another finely crafted recording Two great sides, with the a-side perfectly fitting today’s tight criteria for dance-floor acceptance.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 72.00

Records That Will Always Remind You Of A Venue
JOE TORQUAY replied to stokesoulboy's topic in All About the SOUL
Mitch ryder -breakout # twisted wheel first record I ever heard on my first visit as I was going down the stairs in 1966, so it will always be my favourite 45, -
Eddie Finley Sad Honored Night C/w Heavy Hips Take some time out now…and witness one of the greatest street-level testimonies to Soul ever recorded. A neighborhood production that ripples with anguish from start to finish; truly amazing Deep Soul, delivered at a pace where the horns drive this session towards “Northern Soul Crossover” greatness… Utterly ideal for those upfront venues with rooms dedicated to distilled “Soul”, as this is a drop of the real stuff…Listen how Eddie Finley serves up an on-your-knees performance, hitting those heights that only a man who has lived with heartache can ever hope to give up. At times his vocal cracking under the weight of his misery, but always holding key, as the horns thrust the song through the ceiling! AWESOME! Flip it over and you can again witness those honkin’ horns that drove the A-side, with no vocal embellishments. A whirling organ replaces the vocal and a Funky Texas groove unfolds…But I found myself continually flipping back to the phenomenal Soulful experience of the A-side…just outstanding. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 749.00 Philip Upchurch Combo You Can't Sit Down Part 1 & 2 Another “Twisted Wheel” choice title, looking so very “chilled” inside its colourful “Nipper” sleeve enveloping a gorgeous Red & White Demo label… A million seller for this talented Chicagoan who a few years later contributed so much towards those innovative “Rotary Connection” albums for Chess. But back in 1961 Phil Upchurch was at the forefront of the birth of hammond Boo-Ga-Loo with this rattling good instrumental best-seller. An ideal bridge for the early MOD scene as the transition from Modern Jazz to R&B gathered pace. continuing to be a dancefloor favourite throughout the 60s. A huge USA hit it may have been, but to find it as the non-hit UK copy is thrilling but as the highly coveted Red & White DEMO. That is rather special capture for the serious British Soul vinyl addict, especially in this fine clean condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 108.00 Sunrise Movement Running Wild Part 1 & 2 A rumbling Monster Detroit Funk infused Northern Soul. Absolutely perfect for today’s amalgamation of sounds the Rare Soul dance scene is currently turning into. This 45 offers a essential combination of extreme-rarity, coupled with pure-rebellion, that transfers itself to the dancefloor with a compelling relentless rhythm charged by a studio full of attitude. An angry dancer rippling with power.. This is exactly the mode that crosses over so well from which ever style room you’re DJing in. A Colossus of it’s genre.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 259.00 Bud Harper Mr. Soul C/w Let Me Love You After all these years the sheer beauty of the British Promo still does it for me… This week I thought two “Twisted Wheel” anthems in the demo format would be cool to see. Starting with this 45, that all by itself created nicknames for many a dedicated 60s British Soul-Boy, just how many of that band of fashion-conscious R&B/Soul lovers call themselves or were christened by buddies as “Mr. Soul” is not calculable.. but every English town seemed to have one.. all the way from ” 2809 Eratus Street, Houston, Texas 77026” to the United Kingdom the term “Mr Soul” meant something… Before you today is the UK birth of that iconic disc, in startling condition complete with its birthday clothes. Today though “Mr. Soul” may have taken a backseat to the flipside, that has more recently graced Northern Soul turntables - as “Let Me Love You” perfectly fits the current NS criteria. From Houston to Manchester and Mr. Soul’s everywhere, real cool name to be known by.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 163.00 Harold Burrage I'll Take One C/w A Long Way Together Let’s get serious! Not many British Soul aficionados can boast of owning this “Rarest Of The Rare” UK Sue. Two Chicago Northern Soul crunchers, that even on its original South Michigan Avenue, M-Pac Records release #7204, it is insanely rare! As this UK SUE press in a totally flawless state, still wearing the original birth-sleeve - we can validate as one of SUE’s endangered species. Click on the soundfile to unleash two snarling Chicago beasts from the desk of the driving force behind the M-Pac/One-derful group of labels; Jimmy Dodd, Otha “Otis” Hayes, Milt Bland & Verlie Rice again team up with impressive consequences.. But what is really impressive with this 45 is the blinding-condition and the “Beyond-Rare” status. Do not pass-by you may never see another… and certainly not in this eye-popping condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 130.00 Mary Wells Bye Bye Baby Original 1963 UK press from Motown’s lady-of-the-moment. In 1963 Mary Wells was the Queen Of Motown (see Brenda Holloway - When I’m Gone). This her first of two UK press albums. This copy is in impeccable condition - Both vinyl surfaces reveal only a few very light blemishes in strong light, plays perfectly. Both labels are flawless, retains its original lined inner sleeve which is also perfect. Front cover is a strong excellent with no distracting flaws other than light corner bump (see scan) The only real is on the back cover, bottom seam has a “browning” from aged tape residue (see scan) In 2015 we are really pleased to be able to offer this 52 year old Motown collectors-piece in such fine condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 89.00 Sonny Fishback Heart Breaking Man / I Won't Take Back These Words The power of Robert Banks guiding the equally powerful Sonny Fisher’s vocal. This release is the rare version filed as “CAMEO PUBLISHING & S. Fishback” as opposed to “Kodel music” Publishing version on the same label and release number. Most-unusual to issue two different takes, and we are certainly unsure which one was first or even why it happened. But what we are sure of is whether it be “CAMEO” or “KODEL” they are both exasperatingly RARE! Click on the sound-file to discharge a horn driven Northern Soul stomper, with a more controlled arrangement; classier than the wild alternative stomper. On this take Sonny vocal is eloquently precise, as are the shrill girl-group with their echoing chorus. But what is not mellowed over are the intrusive horns that dominate throughout the session. This is rare NORTHERN SOUL with a dash of subtlety. Flip it over for a Deep Soul treasure, Sonny is defiant as he shuns his love, obstinately refusing to apologize for his angry words, ignited by the multiple hurt he has suffered, hammering home his determination with the lyrics “But Remember, What I Told You When You Left.. And before I Take You Back, I’d Rather Be Buried In My Grave.. I Won’t Take Back These Words…” Two superb sides - one very elusive disc..Unrepentant Deep Soul of the very highest calibre Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 366.00 Sugar Bear & The Sensations What About Me Girl C/w It's Won't Be Long This weeks “Sweet Soul” Rarest Of The Rare also carries the bonus of a neat slow-burn mid-pace dancer on the flipside. The superior Sweet Soul side first with alternating lead vocals that work so within the comfort of a rich harmony background. The imploring lyric pierce the air in a beautifully woven tapestry of Soul. Begging, pleading, beseeching Soul seamlessly delivered on one super-obscure platter.. Flip and the pace lifts - the mood elevates but the harmony suffers not a jot, these guys are good, they are tight as a drum, as fluid as a tap.. a mid-tempo dance groove I’ve certainly never come across before and a bowl of Sweet Soul that’s made me hungry for more Ridiculously RARE - do not pass by Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 131.00 Bobby Paris Night Owl There are Northern Soul Classics and then there are Northern Soul anthems. THIS IS AN ANTHEM In its rarest form - a neat clean PROMO copy in its birth sleeve. No further comment required Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 200.00 Jack Montgomery Baby, Baby, Take A Chance On Me (vocal & Instru) A listing for those of you who insist on the rarest possible Northern Soul classic variations. Here is a pristine PROMO copy offering both the vocal & instrumental on one disc. 99% of the time in our experience PROMO copy means “vocal” on both sides. Instrumental being invariably only on the tricky to snare STOCK copy. This is a most unusual variation of this Detroit conceived Northern Soul winner. Check out the soundfile, then ponder on whether you would like to own this magnificent Motor City dancer, flawless and in by far its rarest form Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 188.00 Jr. & The Soulettes Ten O'clock, Loving Kids / Fue So completely different to anything you’ve heard - take time to absorb this “School Project” from Oklahoma City. Primitive but utterly contagious Soul-Weirdness infused with Funk and progressive thinking. This 4 pupil gathering, build an haunting organ backdrop, suddenly torn by a ear-piercing lead vocal, enriched by a mysterious Alto-Sax weaving a trail through the recording. A persistent organ never wains and the vocal presence gets fuller. Flip it over for the instrumental version - its so different you may =need another play or two - but beware this D.I.Y. session with “The Professor” will snake under your skin for today’s ear-worm.. I told you it was different - no need to underline the ridiculous rarity kudos it carries. A listing for those who seek out the wholly obscure “Outside The Box” Soul. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 33.00 Herb Johnson Carfare Back C/w Gloomy Day As far as Rare Soul Collectors are concerned Arctic is Philadelphia’s most treasured label. Totally dedicated to Soul giving up some the the city’s beat-loved 60s classics, whilst hiding within its enviable catalog, some of Northern Soul’s most cherished rarities. Here is a Kenny Gamble & label owner Jimmy Bishop collaboration underling the wealth of product it released. This is one of the labels “impossibles” not only offer upbeat 100% Northern Soul, but on the flip it gives up one of the greatest Deep Soul recordings to ever come to vinyl.. A-side is quintessential Northern Soul saturated with all the characteristics to set the dancefloor alight! and ONLY AVAILABLE as the STOCK copy. Flip it over for a sorrowful Deep Soul journey complete with sound-affects, but the “Dynodynamics” production team inject just enough oomph in the backing thus crafting an exquisite “BEAT BALLAD HEAVEN” experience. TWO KILLER SIDES: noting that unlike other top-drawer Northern Soul 45s this label released, this example has never been reissued or bootlegged. Before you is a rare opportunity to own a monumental piece Philly Soul!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 428.00 Brooks Bros Looking For A Woman C/w Two Great Lovers Relentless Detroit Northern Soul - proper real-deal bruiser - palpitating dancer decorated with the Mike Terry baritone, baring horns, synchronized “call and answer” vocals delivering Soulful “hey-hey” shouts” n’ squeals whilst maintaining silky smooth harmony throughout… Some tune - this is - never failing to stir the crowd with its muscular presence..an undeniable surefire dancefloor-detonator.. For a pause check out the Deep Soul flipside that many “Deep” fans consider right up there alongside the Motor City’s other profoundly painful songs.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,514.00 Brenda Holloway When I'm Gone C/w I've Been Good To You A song that was first earmarked as Mary Wells’s follow up to the highly successful “My Guy” for release on Motown 1061 but instead Mary Well’s version never got released and Brenda Holloway’s take became a minor USA chart hit - failed miserably in the UK, to rise up to become an iconic Northern Soul Motown for the Los Angeles songbird. “My Guy” was so huge, 20th. Century Fox came forward to sign Mary Wells and with not too much persuasion, Mary headed for “Filmsville, never to repeat her Motown success even though “Fox” tried everything to emulate the “Motown Sound” Before you today is the version Motown did release in its 1965 British format in totally sublime condition. Flawless in every respect and looking just as alluring as that irresistible offer Miss Wells received. TMG addicts - find a better copy if you can! Sorry, this item has already been won! Tropics Hey You Little Girl C/w The Happy Hour Now here’s a goodie that doesn’t come our way very often - in fact the last time it graced our auction was fully 8 years ago. We can think of, no stronger validation of this 45’s elusiveness than that. From small-town Reidsville, North Carolina this D.I.Y. 60s 45 again exhibits that feelgood “Soul” influenced dance-sound that was so prevalent throughout the 60s Carolinas music-scene. In some cases these recording gave themselves well the thrivng “Beach Music Scene” but in almost all cases providing the British Northern Soul scene with perfectly constructed Northern Soul, without even knowing it. Just how many independent “Soul inspired Beach aimed” recordings graced the Northern Soul scene over the decades is hard to say, but it is well into the 100’s. Before you today is one of the “special ones”, with it’s instantly recognizable finger-clicking simplicity intro, an ear-opening guttural wailing of vocal that quickly disappears to be replaced by a dreamy Falsetto lead, then the booming wailing bounces back - WHAT A FABULOUS INTRO - I can think of no other records that starts with such ingenuity. The two contrasting vocals continue to bounce off each other, contesting who can bring the most to the recording… DAMN FANTASTIC! Love it to bits, and it’s been to long since I heard it last.. for good measure we’ve recorded the flipside - which pales against such enthusiasm but well worth a listen too… You could not dream of owning a finer example of the 60s “Carolina Sound” or indeed own a finer copy - this one is pristine in every way. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 516.00 Little Joe Cook I'm Falling In Love With You Baby C/w Doodle Pickle The insanely elusive ORIGINAL!! Fabulously clean 1965 press of this simultaneously massive Wigan Casino & Cleethorpes Pier anthem circa 74/75 Monster. Whilst Soul Sam was uncontrollably fiddlin’ with the amplifier controls, behind the twin-decks at the legendary Pier; most likely Richard Searling was calmly inciting synchronized hand-claps & backdrops from his lofty stage lookout. What a memorable sight those two legend DJ’s would have witnessed 130 miles apart, straight across the breadth of England, the mirroring of a steaming hot cauldron of a club, ram-jam full of young dancers driven by the energy of mid-60s Philadelphia. It is a vision that has stayed with all who attended… Today I think the previously overlooked Funk-Boogaloo flipside may grab the attention of a few jocks for a possible “rare” spin… but the A-side is iconic Northern Soul so rarely seen for sale! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 452.00 Sly & The Family Stone Dance To The Music The withdrawn ORIGINAL DIFFERENT MIX to the UK Direction press that “hit” An immaculate copy of the 1968 withdrawn 45, that alleged only lasted a matter of days before it was quickly deleted, by an executive decision to release this “club” winner on the CBS’s vehicle for “Soul” and released on the Direction label using a slightly different take! The rest is history, as hot on the heels of Cliff Nobles “The Horse”, this title surpassed all before as the dancefloor-detonator of the day. An immediate “Disco” smash, that still crams the dancefloors of the UK today. Before you is an immaculate, seldom seen for sale STOCK copy in super clean flawless condition. Two perfect labels and two vinyls that hardly reveal a blemish. Utterly Classic!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 198.00 Johnny Praye Can't Get Too Much Love Relentless Northern Soul tyrant!! Floor-destroying arrangement embellished with the most-convincing gathering of backing girls you could ever wish to hear. THIS 45 HAS EVERYTHING required to provoke that spine-tingling Northern Soul buzz you get as every inch of the floor is covered with tricky footwork and focused hand-claps! Euphoric Northern Soul at it’s most convincing - we know the label scans will have caught your eye - now click the soundfile to have your NS heart entangled. Unstoppable.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 798.00 Frankie & Johnny I'll Hold You From the first glimpse of this 45, all my worst fears were confirmed… I am an incurable Record-Anorak who experiences a bigger thrill from holding the outrageously rare, than from any of my other weird-penchants. But I know I’m not alone in preferring to fondle “impossible” vinyl, than the wife… This listing is UNIQUE 1966 UK Decca in house Test Press of what is a completely timeless Northern Soul classic. Check out the flawless, rich sounding soundfile - even though visually both sides of the playing surfaces reveal multiple light surface marks, it plays as you have already heard - Loud, Clean, clear and true. Not a single murmur , click, pop or crackle can be found on the full length soundfile provide. Although it looks Vg, it plays Mint minus! The beauty of the “test Press” not only lies in owning something unlike any other variation but also the depth of sound quality is sensational, because it will have been the “first” press of the virgin factory stamper! Unmissable 45 - British Rare Soul collecting at it’s most thrilling! Tell the wife about it - she’ll completely understand.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 392.00 Rosco Gordon Just A Little Bit C/w What I Wouldn't Do I see this male take on the Tiny Topsy monster is hitting DJ play lists… How about this gleaming, utterly immaculate 1963 UK press to impress the turntable voyeurs with ? Give ‘em some uncompromising, totally thumpin’ NS R&B in not only an highly desirable format, but also in the unbeatable 60’s EMI fidelity on that top quality robust vinyl - oh it sounds so rich! Spy the scans, listen to the sound-quality and resist if you can.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 68.00 Changing Scene Magic Love C/w Is Your Hand Where It's At Continuing our weekly journey into the depths of Rare Sweet Soul, this time we have a stylish piece, that just steps over the line into a fabulous “stepper” of the quality you’d expect to hear @ Just Soul, Simply Soul or the legendary “Soul Essence” events. Check out the “Co-Town 1440” test press and release “Soul As Sweet AS You Like It!” Lush strings take to the air, as the falsetto cuts the air cradled by violins and full male vocal backing. Fabulously fluid mild-pacer dripping with classy Soul and an equally finely crafted arrangement as horns come to join the session.. Whether it be Sweet Ballads or pure-steppers that grabs your attention we think this rarity covers both bases.. or maybe it’s FUNK that floats your boat.. Flip it for a FUNKY dancer with attitude and skilled Wah-Wah driving the guys angst.. All’s good with this 45.. so good! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 69.00 Titus Turner Big Mary's WOW! What an historic 62 year old vision of beauty! On everybody’s favourite label, in its full glory complete with the seemingly “always” push-out TRI-CENTER, this 45 looks completely irresistible. The twanging guitar on the intro of “Big Mary’s” instantly triggers visions of an distinctively attractive jolly n’ sexy Madame in charge of “dark” goings-on in a hideaway-den of iniquity. Smokey, blues man in the corner, turns a blind-eye to the choices of recreation; couples hanging onto the drinks-crowded bar as the Sax-Man suggestively blows his reed; Titus snarls with evocative excitement, presumably in anticipation of a good night ahead…at BIG MARY’S Who could not want to attend.. Equally who could not what to own such a gorgeous disc, bringing all manner of speculative-lusting with it’s R&B Rhythms…cradling that growling vocal. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 110.00 Senators I Shouldn't Care C/w Wedding Bells Street-level 1962 seriously RARE vocal group Doo-Wop from Washington,. D.C. with a tasty Northern Soul candidate hidden away on the flipside. Headed up by James Junior Isom who Soul fans will maybe recognize from his wealth of Soul Group activity though the 60’s and 70’s. This example is one of two release the “Washington Senators” had under the guidance John Dickerson, this one being so obscure they forgot to put the “Artist Text” on the label. (See Scan) and afterthought handwritten “Senators” credit. Click the soundfile to witness an off-the-wall Northern Soul stroller that has yet to be absolutely “discovered” by the world’s most-dedicated sound-scourers. A fabulous mid-tempo NS groove saturated in potential, lead vocalist reminding me of “Cole” in Cole and The Granduers, that is doing so well for Ginger Taylor at the moment. An infectious mid-tempo littered with all the street-corner nativity we’ve all come to love on these early 60’s D.I.Y. sessions. After this fruitless release the group then moved on to bigger things recovering from this April 1962 neighborhood flop - the Washington Sanators were soon morphing into the The Satisfactions - Smash Records, later popping up with several releases on Lionel. After that no 45s but to their credit, a much sought after album on Hot Wax as the “Satisfactions Unlimited” Raw, hard beginnings and determined hard work paid off for James Junior Isom, here is his rarest NS creation - and I LOVE IT! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 58.00 Tommy Dodson Iii Cooperate C/w You Don't Know (how Much I Love You) STONE MINT!! Los Angeles rarity giving up two fabulous examples of two highly sought-after genres. Leading with the topside Tommy guided by the prolific “Sam Cooke” mentor Rene Hall; Tommy barks out a relentless stomping Northern Soul over the top of blaring, occasionally belching brass with squealing girls driving home a splendid Northern Soul dancer - proper robust thumpin’ dancer - a seldom heard floor-destroyer of immense power! Flip it over for “Soul As Deep As It Gets” as you listen to one of the most-treasured of all Deep Soul rarities, in a few seconds you will tell you why.. it has despair dripping from the grooves, a funeral paced piano fills in as Tommy’s emotion takes pause; and cooing, wooing girls adding another layer to the man’s intense misery, as he tries to convince his girl - she “Don’t Know How Much He Loves Her” Two stand-out recordings - of pure quality covering two seriously collectible genres, remembering this record has only been played ONCE each side for the imposing sound-files to be lifted.. Rare Soul collecting - It don’t get no better than this… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 260.00 Troy Dodds Rise Up And Walk We are going for contrast this week - covering as many bases of collecting Rare Soul as we can. We think this West Coast big production fits in nicely with that guideline. Bay area crooner Troy Dodds is overseen by prolific writer/producer George Motola on this 1962 Los Angeles session. We all adore Troy’s rich vocal, that has embellished many a California session but his pre-El Camino work, has maybe slept for too long. Be prepared for Troy to yet again prick your ears up, as Mr. Motola adds sleek girl choruses to the guttural lead, then up steps the almost compulsory Sax-man with an expanded solo, further elevating this muscular recording. If you like the Big vocals this ones sits comfortably into a polished Motola production.. Big vocals, Woo-Woo girls, long Sax-break .. what’s not to love? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 74.00 Carl Hall Mean It Baby C/w You Don't Know Nothing About Love It matters not which side you drop the needle on - The thoroughly individualistic vocal of the Carl Hall, is right up there with the Northern/Deep Soul greats like Darrow Fletcher, Walter Jackson etc. for having that little extra that stands them apart from the crowd… Carl almost squeals but not quite, as the control of that squealing, transforms the lyrics into a heart-trembling rasp of distilled emotion. Even on this speedy, uplifting Northern Soul session with the studio doyen Jerry Ragovoy the purity of his just spills out the speakers. This record has bubbled under the mainstream Northern Soul scene for decades, I can remember it on rare sales lists from Brian 45 Philips when I was a wee lad; and still its remains mostly overlooked by the masses..but for the seasoned old-school NS scholars this is a sleeping giant. Decorated with everything you’d ever wish for in a Northern Soul spin. Vocally MASSIVE, full production just rushes along in perfect 4 beats to the bar Northern Soul fashion, as Carl Hall’s vocal swells as it gets more and more beseeching…FABULOUS stuff!! Deep Soul fans - check out the passionate flipside to hear a voice that is up there with the chosen few, who really stand out .. and the production is mountainous! TWO GREAT SIDES and it is the rarer Yellow stock copy too.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 187.00 Shorty Long Out To Get You C/w It's A Crying Shame This weeks Tamla Motown offering is the labels 11th. release, and one that failed miserably with both USA & UK sales. A 1964 William “Mickey” Stevenson project underlining Mickey’s ear for the more aggressive-black-directed Motown dance-sessions. This “Jerk” “R&B” styled dancer rides on a potent Earl Van Dyke piano rhythm, a far cry from Motown’s aim to break through into the Billboard “Pop” charts, with Mickey making no attempt to entice the “white” buyer, allowing Stevie Wonder to hijack the session with a lengthy insanely-wild blues-harmonica intrusion. Fabulous Northern Soul appreciated R&B shaker, being the final result. Flip it over and its a clone of the a-side, with the pace dropping but none of the feverish R&B energy lost. Condition in bright light is impeccable - vinyl only gives up a few brief hairline blemishes, plays perfectly. Labels as you can see, along with the “Orange wavy-top TMG Sleeve” all are immaculate! OCD - TMG addicts, this is a beauty - whilst not overlooking the two staggeringly fine R&B shakers this 45 offers. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 136.00 Nipper The Dog His Masters Voice - 1950's Souvenir This is the most pleasing piece of memorabilia I’ve had the pleasure of seeing in memory and it’s stupidly RARE! Iconic His Master Voice - Middlesex Factory Visit memento. dimensions are: boxed 75.00mm x 95.00 mm X 38.00mm unboxed 62.50mm x 85.00mm x 32.oo mm Apparently in the 50s, if you visited the EMI Middlesex pressing plant, you may have been lucky enough to come away with this “NIPPER THE DOG” souvenir. This near 60 year was wrapped and unopened until it met me. Still enshrined in the original brown paper wrapping, inside the “Middlesex Ariel” picture of the record pressing plant - inside lay “Tutankhamen” like a tiny “Nipper the Dog” and his record player. Super rare and in perfect condition, entombed, untouched and now ready to be displayed in your record room.. NOT SURE IF AL WILLIAMS HAS BEEN SOLD OR NOT, IT SAYS RESERVE NOT MET AT THE TOP AND ALSO SAYS SOLD AT THE BOTTOM. -
Al Williams I Am Nothing C/w Brand New Love RESERVE NOT MET “Without You - I Am Nothing, Nothing At All…” That is most probably what the Northern Soul collector is thinking right now - if this Top-Drawer Detroit-dominator is not in your collection today, it is a chasm that must be filled before you leave… Both sides give up Fred Bridges & Richard Knight creations - both like most of the pairings endeavors are the very pinnacle of the true Northern Soul sound. “I Am Nothing” has been perched at the summit of NS collecting for decades, it’s impressive rarity, holding up every year since the 70s. The flipside for those of you digging below the surface, will consider every note as good as the iconic top-side. Both sides shimmer and strut, with the Sound Of Detroit sparking off every note. Al’s despondent vocal emits despair whilst riding a rich dance arrangements, girls & guys choruses cultivate two of the greatest Northern Soul conceptions ever released… THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL - twice over. vinyl is beautiful both sides - labels do not suffer from the dreaded “La Beat” flood.. but the A-side label has a pen “swirling” see scan - flipside label is PERFECT! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,491.00 Joe Douglas Something To Brag About C/w Crazy Things The AUTHENTIC ORIGINAL press. Beware of vinyl pressed New York counterfeits from the same source as Me Williams, Sandy Wynns, Carstairs, Fred Hughes, Dalton Boys, Casanova Two and countless others. This is the ORIGINAL legitimate matrix stamped 60s made real-deal. Both sides provide you with potent Northern Soul. The A-side features sax-god Mike Terry on one of his many Philly sessions with Bobby Martin pulling the strings on this relentless dancer, prompted throughout by an insistently burping baritone sax. BRILLIANT NORTHERN SOUL is not going over-the-top. Flip it over, and just like Yvonne Baker’s Junior recording. Philly studios are offered the loan of a Jack Ashford & Mike Terry collaboration for the flipside. “Crazy Things” is drenched in Detroit luster from start to finish. A mid-tempo giving up it’s original identity with every stroke of the piano and the subtly supporting horns.. TWO STAND-OUT SIDES - do not settle for that fake bendy repro… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 312.00 Ascots Anytime C/w Sometimes I Wonder Washington, D.C. vocal group Northern Soul you can never tire of. Like all this group’s recording this is scintillating vocal group Northern Soul from the top-level of the genre, as Donald Walden & Rosco Bowie once again convey the aspects of his style so perfectly. Stabbing horns, soaring trumpets carry male vocals through a Northern Soul groove of pure-quality as tghe Ascot not for the first time flex their superior blending of voices to the max.. I’m addicted to this style and just adore the horns breaks and the soaring vocals that build to crescendo as the session draws to a close - you can physically feel their enjoyment in their work. Flip it over, the boys again display precise timing, tight-harmonies and soulful delivery with a consistency that makes this offering a double-delight with the B-side fully deserving of same amount of attention as the “A”.. Vocal group NS at its very best!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 374.00 Various Artists Switched On Blues Serious MOTOWN collectors here is something rather special! Motown 10 track testament to Detroit R&B Perfect vinyl on both sides… Both PROMO labels also perfect Original full colour LP-advert inner-sleeve “as new” Cover is free of any writing, stains, seam splits, ring-wear or any other detracting flaw. Cover spine, top and bottom seams reveal the light wear of shelve life (see scan). This album is a beauty, a rarity and so different musically to the “Motown norm” it is an essential acquisition - do not snooze on this listing - finding another comparable copy would be a foolish-vinyl-dream. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 38.00 Tony Cummings The Sound Of Philadelphia One very hard book to find - the highly regarded 1975 chronicling of The Philadelphia sound by Tony Cummings. An early in-depth burrowing into behind the scenes; the birth, growth and world domination of 70s Soul. The unstoppable Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff machine that became the second USA City to be honoured with those three coveted words “THE SOUND OF..” before it’s name. This is a 1975 publication written by a seasoned Soul journalist who had already edited the early 60s fanzine “Soul” which grew to become “Soul Monthly” which eventually morphed into the now iconic “Shout” magazine. Later he took the reigns at “Black Music” magazine, which rivaled “Blues & Soul” during the early part of the 70’s. Tony Cummings could not have been better informed or experienced in the Sound Of Soul, to write such an engaging book - which unfortunately didn’t sell well at the time, but is now rightly considered a major-collectors item of its genre. This copy could hardly be finer, a minuscule light fray top back cover is the only defect i can find… If you’ve not read it - it is a must - plus it is full of fabulous archive black & white pics. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 30.00 Johnnie Taylor Blues In The Night C/w Watermelon Man Taken from JT’s 1967 LP “Wanted One Soul Singer” But as a 45 both sides unissued as 45s, in both the USA & England; but French Atlantic/Stax recognized two winning tunes when they heard them - or did they? As compelling a dance-track as this is - it too, like so many other masterpiece dance-tracks before them - sold absolutely zilch upon release. Oddly the French LP series “Formidable Rhythm & Blues” Volume 7 the sleeve states it came from actually does not have this track on it. Leaving Johnnie Taylor’s finest Northern Soul 3 minutes one damn tough recording to secure. If you want potent full-volume to DJ with, forget the EP or LP route - hunt down this high fidelity French 45 with the picture sleeve.. it is loud, clear and utterly irresistible.. Like a snake charmer, the guitar rhythm pulls you in like a cobra out of the basket and into the light - the sax breaks through, the horns flood the air and Johnnie nicotine coated, whiskey worn vocal does the rest!!! MESMERIZING!!!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 363.00 Christine Cooper Heartaches Away My Boy A listing especially aimed especially at those of you in pursuit of the legendary Northern Soul classics in their seriously rare and least seen clothes. Here is a gorgeous Promo - with the jumbled-up P A R K W A Y logo adorned with the two shields; pressed in Los Angeles the spring of 1966. How thrilling is it for the old-school collector to encounter this pinnacle of Sister-Northern-Soul in this head-turning form. A Jewel in any Northern Soul assemblage - just stunning. Radio Station notes and date received on label - the playing surface has light surface marks but as you can hear from the full soundfile provided it plays loud, clean and true. RARE in the extreme and every time I hear it - my fave Northern Soul girl-tune! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 421.00 Drake & The En-solids Please Leave Me C/q I'll Always Be There The extremely elusive PROMO copy in “as new” condition. Chicago vocal-group Northern Soul you scarcely see as the DEMO copy - in “as new” condition? May we suggest hardly ever… A sparkling horn propelled stomping foot-to-the-floor acrobatic Northern Soul; with real class injected by highly-honed harmony vocals cradling the pleading leading man. But those horns.. WOW they go long, hard, thrusting their way to the front of the production. In-Your-Face or what? PROPER NORTHERN SOUL!! Flip it over, the boys calm down a little but lose none of their razor sharp harmony delivery. This has got to be a firm-candidate for Just Soul or Soul Essence wet Saturday afternoons or certainly Guinness drenched snug evening spent at Seriously Soulful in Bristol. Too awesome not to have its turn at all this deluxe venues.. If you wanna own this double-delectation of Soul - do it the hard way A MINT PROMO is the way… your mate ain’t gonna own one… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 136.00 Coasters Love Potion Number Nine A gleaming 1971 UK Demo! Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller revamp their 1959 “Clovers” recording with their long standing association with the Coasters and the result is staggering.. Check out what 12 years on has done for this memorable recording - fabulous Northern Soul filled with the Latin influences of New York. Idea for today’s Northern Soul sets that are embracing the Latin flavoured recordings. This one particularly benefiting from a sensational Herbie Mann styled “Flute instrumental” break, tight vocals and relentless “Spanish Harlem” horns..surely this is a sleeper waiting to cause a stir.. especially if it’s spinning the turntable in full Green & White Glory! Condition is flawless throughout… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 122.00 Ray Pollard It's A Sad Thing C/w All The Things You Are I’ve just read on the internet that Ray Pollard was a well regarded voice , who was most famous for being a member of “The Wanderers”…I’d like to adjust that rather insipid statement slightly.. Ray Pollard has THE voice that is worshiped by many 100’s of thousands of Northern Soul devotees spread across the globe.. with his recording “The Drifter” weighed-in as one of the most-precious NS recordings of all time…drivel “well regarded” indeed.. this man is “The Baron Of The Beat Ballad” To add credence to that statement here is another United Artists recording with the power to change your day… Only a full orchestra could ever embellish Ray’s dominating vocal and when it carries all those “Spanish Harlem” production cliches, New York screams right at you…with another spectacular performance by a Northern Soul Demigod .. with one of the most emotive vocals ever pressed to vinyl… You see, I personally consider Ray Pollard so highly - I’ve not even mentioned that this stupidly rare 1966 UK press is the intensely-desired RED & WHITE DEMO in so near pristine condition… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 193.00 Marvelettes I'll Keep On Holding C/w No Time For Tears The sun is streaming through my office window and I’m sitting here thinking how long is it now? .. that I’ve been in love with the British Tamla Motown label. For literally decades I have trawled the 45 RPM boxes (like we all have) the sight of the “Orange Wavy-Top” sleeve, sets my pulse racing. The eyes instantly focus, not on the artist or the title but the TMG number to the middle right of the label. Does it start with a 5 or a 6, even a 7 could be OK ..is it a hit or one that slipped past the radio jocks and failed to sell…a rarity? A 5!! wow!! a non-hit Wow again…! The Marvelettes.. Wow! - I’ll Keep Holding On WOW WOW!! the slow-motion slide out of the sleeve … flick it around in the July sunlight and it only reveals the lightest of blemishes.. Mint minus…WOW! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 156.00 Drapels Wondering (when My Love Is Coming Home) C/w Please Don't Leave Me RARE, PERFECT, DEMO! In honor of one of Soul’s most distinctive Sister-Voices, the under-recorded and sadly recently passed Wendy Rene’s vocal assistance on this Memphis rarity, offering up two ends of the Soul collectors spectrum, in their very best light. We lead with a deliciously constructed Northern Soul mid-tempo from this mixed vocal group, in which Wendy Rene and relatives plead their way through an imploring mid-tempo dancer, with Wendy’s answering within the chorus, enriching and deepening a solemn plea with the NS dance-arrangement. This 45 is RARE, and in this perfect condition - almost impossible - that is maybe why, most of you have never heard this lady within a group before. Flip it over and we encounter seriously sorrowful Deep Soul decorated again by an on-your-knees lead male vocal and Wendy Rene’s highly pitched vocal cutting through the session. Mary Frierson aka Wendy Rene found fame late in life as her best known Stax recording “Bar-B-Que” went USA wide as a TV advert, but finished her recording career at Stax mid-60s to concentrate on her commitment to a Gospel Choir. This is easily her obscurest Rare Soul contribution, bequeathing so much for the serious Soul and Northern Soul addict. Click again and enjoy the voice of an Angel supporting a fully armed vocal-group. LOVE IT - both sides. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 86.00 R 'n' B Scene Vol. 1 # 4 1964 Edition 4 Of The R&b Scene Chorlton-Cum-Hardy was not the birth place of chronicling Lancashire-Soft-Porn but it was certainly the editorial-centre for the very beginnings of Northern Soul, captured within this extremely rare 1964 edition 4 of Roger Eagle’s “R&B SCENE” The Godfather of Northern Soul Roger Eagle’s enthusiasm seeps from the pages of this “Black Music” saturated fanzine. The winning bid was £ 56.00 Marisa Gatti Love's What You Want VERY RARE DETROIT - Sister Northern Soul ! Collecting Detroit Northern Soul doesn’t get much obscurer than this press from Sound Inc. A Mike Valvano project on a most-imaginative label logo that always makes you smile, but the smokin’ moody production hidden in the grooves jolts your mind straight back into serious collecting mode as the sight of the labels, equally impresses. Three of Detroit’s prolific providers of Northern Soul come together to craft this unusual session - Mike Valvano, Cholly Bassoline & Jeannine Greer team up; With Jeannine Greer writing solo on this sulking Motown City mover. A tune that has been talked about for decades, appreciated by the few that own a copy.. like so many Northern Soul heirs to turntable action, this 45 has suffered a little from it’s own weight of rarity. In the right hands at the right venue this would cause more than a casual jog to the turntables for more info… A serious cult item - do not pass by… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 389.00 Ogletree Brothers Gonna Keep A Check On You C/w Falling In Your Love Crazy About Crossover? I 100% am!! especially when it’s as obscure and as fluid as this offering. But it’s the seamlessly-soulful vocals that steal the show.. on this classy dance flip side.. The Brothers themselves lead this D.I.Y. 45 with the Deep Soul ballad as the a-side. Oh so soulful as the gently delivered lead vocal, gets caressed by calming horns and a seamlessly rich male harmony chorus. Fabulous blend of Sweet Soul sinking into the Deeper depths of Southern Soul. Two great sides, private press, D.I.Y. Georgia Soul at it’s most captivating.. Condition is near perfect in every way.. Richard Dickson One Last Chance C/w A Thousand Miles Away Yes we all appreciate, in fact adore this iconic Los Angeles label; Bobby Womack, The Furys, Delores Hall, Fi-Dels, Jackie Lee, Pat Hodges, Fuller Brothers, Watts 103rd., Street Rhythm Band..a label littered with stand-out California artists and truly great Northern Soul Records.. But how many you own, or even seen or heard this the labels RAREST 45 by a country mile.. So very rare? You would expect it to be a below par song or country & western or something wrong, to make it sell virtually nothing… but no this is “vocal-group” harmony Soul of the highest calbre.. Well it had to be, because the highly-admired Bobby Sanders was the main man in its making. The Artist/Producer behind a plethora of L.A. Soul/R&B recordings on the Soul Town, Pick-A-Hit labels etc - writing and producing for the likes of The Younghearts, The Tempo’s and many more.. Before you today is “The Rarest Of The Rare” 60s Sweet Soul ballad, mysteriously credited to a single artist but obviously a 100% vocal-group session. Truly beautiful and drenched in emotional Soulfulness, as we listen to a masterclass in the falsetto delivery and harmony support. Flip it over for a magnificent mid-60s adaptation of the Shep & The Limelites classic… But “One Last Chance” stands head and shoulders above anything of this style I’ve heard in years… Noting that it will most-probably be your “One Last Chance” to own it……..it really is THAT RARE! The winning bid was £ 186.00 Paris Sleepless Nights C/w Wishing Well From the Los Angeles Motown nerve centre, with all the office Big-Boys taking part in the construction of this mighty-slab of Jobette music. Written by Chester & Gary Pipkin a pair who crafted a smorgasbord of 60s Northern Soul for us to feast upon, and Frank Wilson’s right-hand man Marc Gordon come together to craft uncompromisingly floorshakin’ Northern Soul. There also, making sure mighty “Paris’s” vocal flowed was Jerry “Do I Love You” Long and the “Indeed I Do” Frank Wilson pulls the whole production together. A real-dream-team of Californian masters of the studio console.. you’d expect something out of this world - that’s what you get! When the Jobette Boys hand the song sheet to the man with the Gargantuan vocal ! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,665.00 Adventurers Easy Baby C/w (these Days) A Good Girl Is So Hard To Find This weeks timeless Northern Soul classic promo, we were going to save for our “Manship Mints” promotion at Christmas - but that’s a long way away.. so here before Easter is a chance to own an utterly flawless Premiership Classic NS oldie. Check out those two “as new” labels and rest assured I’ve been angling the vinyl under the office lights for some sign of human-contact and failed! It’s as near MINT as you could ever wish for.. I seriously doubt this has see any turntable action since its birth in 1967. Blackpool Mecca, Wigan Casino, Catacombs, Cleethorpes Pier you couldn’t name a 70s Soul Club that didn’t shake to the sound of that distinctive guitar intro - signaling the dancefloor-dash. One for the OCD Northern Soul memory seeker - as this is PERFECT condition just PREFECT! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 512.00 Sir Henry Ivy He Left You Standing There On the back of huge dancefloor appreciation, this rare 1977 Memphis Cross-Over dance groove that has recently rocketed in demand. Upon clicking the infectious soundfile, you’ll fully understand why, as the exuberant horns insist you move, as Henry Ivy’s vocal fills the arrangement with emotional lyrics, neatly blending Real-Soul with a potent “dance” production. An indie that fortunately ignores the burgeoning “disco” scene of 1977, allowing Henry to deliver “Memphis” Soul within an inspirational upbeat dance atmosphere.. Little wonder this tune is HOT! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 440.00 Mr. Floods Party Compared To What This weeks “Affordable Offering” is actually no easy 45 to find these days - especially as the original GM Detroit release that broke surface in the UK on the Ember label from which became a Wigan Casino Monster! This, now elusive USA original of the Gene McDaniels composition that Roberta Flack, Les McCann & Eddie Harris first released in 1969 through it’s Atlantic Records conception; carries all the qualities and so much morte punch for the British all nite dance clubs it set alight, circa mid-70s and unsurprisingly still having the same effect some 40 years later. If you are going to own this NS Anthem may we suggest in this form - it is disappearing fast.. condition of course is beautiful. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 160.00 Garnet Mimms It Was Easier To Hurt Her C /w So Close Mark Twain…. “Buy Land They’re Not Making It Anymore” New York’s finest come together on an outpouring of regret. In the mid-60s The Brill building occupants prided themselves on the full “nothing spared” productions, with the presence to trigger watery eyes in grown men. Lyrics that reminded you of every mistake in love you ever made, voices that speared the heart and girl choruses to fall in love with. Not many chefs of this style of Soul were better at fusing those ingredients than Jerry Ragovoy, Bert Russel & Garry Sherman these guys really were at the top of their game. To prove this point, just listen to Garnet Mimms and the artistry that has gone into this impressive recording - the Beat-Ballad is a lost-art of music. Nobody will ever capture this atmospheric emotion style ever again. John Manship “Buy A Beat-Ballad They’re Not Making It Anymore” This is “Beat Ballad Heaven” in the most fabulous eye-popping condition… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 51.00 Cal Green And The Specials I'll Give You Just A Little More Time C/w Spanky Very rare Hollywood, Northern Soul from a guitarist of neighborhood renown…But this is no guitar instrumental like his “Stormy” or the highly rated “Trippin’ this recording is a fabulously uplifting summer of 1968 Northern Soul groove. Subtle intro features an effortless vocal cradled by equally fluent girl-group answering chorus, that features throughout this “builder” grabbing a hold of you as it progresses. Seamlessly flowing mid-tempo that is right up there alongside the greats of this style but yet to find its true value, as exposure over the decades has been sporadic to say the least, rare spins by the few DJ’s that actually own a copy. Having given this fine example of our music, a more focused listen - I’m already regretting listing it - as my style of sets at the moment would benefit greatly from it’s inclusion. Well what’s done, is done … it won’t be he first or last time I’ve sold a 45 I should’ve kept! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 451.00 Marvin Gaye I Heard It Through The Grapevine C/w Need Somebody As a Green & White DEMO this is one real-tough cookie to acquire - as a recording, Norman Whitfield’s twist on Gladys Knight’s original is utterly iconic. I was in my last year at school, when a friend’s parents fortunately went on holiday. She held a quiet Friday night party for the King Edward VII’s 5th & 6th forms and all of Pieland’s MODS.. Having been embarrassed early on in the evening by my Big Brother falling into the trap of drinking a “Topped Up With Piss” pint of lager put in front of him, and one of my classmates running through the quiet Leicestershire village of Frisby wearing the hostess’s mother’s Baby Doll lingerie, I myself had my eye on other prizes - I needed to investigate that stack of records in the corner… It included the latest Motown hit, Marvin’s “Grapevine”, the song I remember most from that delinquent night in. In the early hours the partygoers started to flake out in every corner of the house. The “Dansette” DJ had grown tired of loading the spindle with 8 new choices and just left the arm pulled over to the right, which effectively triggered.. REPEAT!! REPEAT!! REPEAT!! REPEAT!! Marvin was the song on the turntable and it played constantly for hours and hours. It caused such annoyance, it was ruled by the older boys that if anyone took it off, they would be severely punched.. I would have gladly taken a good punching, if I’d have known then how darn good the flipside was.. Stunning Northern Soul on the back of a Motown Anthem, sitting here in its rarest form and in the finest possible condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 150.00 The Grooms Slow Down C/w I Deserve A Little Bit More For only the 2nd time this century we are more than delighted to be able to offer the “rarest of the rare” from the Norfolk, Virginia’s Church Street community. The birth place of so many great Virginia Soul recordings especially from the competing desks of Frank Guida and Noah Biggs, two leaders in the City’s recording scene. This 45 is a Noah Biggs and E. Payton project; Biggs conceded his Shiptown label, was viewed as a vehicle for lifting local talent into view of larger labels. e.g. The Anglos - Shiptown recording, enjoying a nationwide shot at success through Scepter/Wand. This will explain the ridiculously rarity of this highly sought after 45, offering up two fabulous Soul recordings mirroring the Church Street neighborhood. We lead with the fabulous blending of Funk/Soul crafting an ideal dance experience for today’s Northern Soul upfront DJ’s. Tight harmonies from this 4 man band ride on a raft of Horns, crashing cymbals, persistent wah wah guitar leading to a lengthy instrumental break leaving you longing for those silky harmonies to jump back in, which they do at exactly the right moment. Flip it over and you’ll be immersing yourself into a pool of despair, which the lead vocalist gives the impression, this is a personal experience; with sublime trumpet caressing and his teammates soothing backing, brings together one of the most-moving Sweet Soul experiences I’ve heard in quite some time. Two magnificently Soulful sides, that are just too elusive to think about… Vinyl has some light surface marks but as you can hear plays well, with both labels in impeccable condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 160.00 Rotations We Want Freedom C/w Don't Ever Hurt Me Girl One of very few known copies in the world, a handful of this Philly creation entered the country during the 80s, as a promo only tester with the error on the A-side that should have been pressed as “When He Slowly Moves Away” but plays “Don’t Ever Hurt Me Girl” a cool tune, but this 1970 recording was issued on Law-Ton 1550. Manny Campbell’s error actually induced the birth of an extremely rare record - as today it is the “We Want Freedom” flipside that is causing collectors whisperings and curiously secretive inquiring (before the lid blows of the can) and everybody joins the hunt to own “the original”. This was after all the original first release for the fabulous string-driven “We want freedom” oh so very soulful .. oh so very rare in this the original form! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 25.00 Kell Osborne The Lonely Boy Song C/w Quicksand On its Northern Soul debut “Quicksand” was the preferred side to spin, today the flipside “The Lonely Boy Song” is the one making a huge impact on the dancefloor, just like “Quicksand” did before it. Those “Page Boys” Billy & Gene even from their outset, were never ones to skimp on a production. Both sides are driven by a fully equipped orchestra to compliment Kell’s rich vocal (that could have so easily become a Temptations ingredient, if Kell hadn’t have left Detroit & his friend Eddie Kendricks in 1960 to further his career in L.A.) This double-helping of muscular Northern Soul showcases his vocal powers perfectly. The scan & the soundfiles also illustrate its near perfect condition of the much -rarer STOCK copy. Double header of irresistible charm… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 267.00 Tommy Bush & The Earnest Scott Band I Don't Like It ( But I Love You) Everybody’s favourite label - the “Sassy” Kitten thoroughly deserving of the label-art recognition it enjoys. …but what lay hidden in the grooves would terrify any “kitten” to death, as “Blues” man Tommy Bush roars out ferocious Northern Soul, growling rebelliously though a cage of plucking Blues guitar and snarling brass. This is no “Moist Pussy” - this is Simba with a thorn in his foot… This is “King Of The Northern Soul Jungle” This is a Northern Soul Beast.. even though it’s presented on the cutest label from the bush… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 589.00 Mitch Ryder And The Detroit Wheels Break Out Salivating British Eye-Candy in just the most sublime condition! Red & White’s do not get any more alluring than this Twisted Wheel anthem. Even back in those halcyon days of the mid-60s, as a Red & White UK promo this 45 was one an highly prized, seldom if ever seen trophy-piece Check out those two flawless labels, we guarantee the vinyl is in the same impeccable state….now unleashed the fury of young Detroit - a tune every one of you knows off by heart - but it still has the same effect it had on you when you were 16…doesn’t it a totally timeless classic in it’s must-own form, the addictive RED & WHITE! Flirtations Stronger Than Her Love C/w Settle Down The authentic original west coast promo copy delta # 64784 with the top-quality fidelity. A New York “dream-team” constructed girl-group Northern Soul anthem that in 1975/76 filled the dancefloors of all the leading NS all-night clubs. As the extraordinary writing talents of Sidney Barnes, Horace Ott arranging skills & Herb Abramson producing know how, all comes together in one 2.47 minute experience of Girl Northern Soul at its most effective. Classic from the Top-Drawer but maybe as we get a little mature in our tastes we can now look at the fabulous down-beater on the flipside. Again it’s Sidney Barnes yearning lyrics that pull you into a whirlpool of Soul as Siren-like the girls lure you into one incredibly fine mid-pacer. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 425.00 Elaine Armstrong Sad But True C/w Precious Minutes (i Can Really Call Mine) Only once before have I had the pleasure of auctioning this phenomenal double helping of Pure-Soul; I was taken aback not only by it’s extreme rarity or by the mighty-presence of this solitary 45 release of a lady with an astonishing vocal. But by the story of Elaine Armstrong herself, a history making young black girl who in 1965 broke the last University segregation at Hattiesburg, Mississippi as she along with Raylawni Branch; flanked by 6 Policemen the pair the first Afro-American students to attend the last remaining Mississippi University still stubbornly holding on to the “Segregation” ruling.. What a talent this lady was as this “Blow-U-Away” disc proves, as her one Nashville studio session created totally Top-Drawer Black Music. A-side is a Marva Whitney standard Deep Funk destroyer, as Eliane co-writes with producer Charles Spurling an ear-bleeding juggernaut of a tune! Bulldozing dancefloor-detonator showcasing a young vocal with the power to burst eardrums.. This is DEEP FUNK at it’s most potent! Flip it over and one of Nashville great providers of Pure Soul gives Elaine a tune that lacerates your gut, stabbing your heart as that sublime vocal portrays Robert S. Riley’s poignant lyrics with passion belying her tender years. That’s it.. this great lady’s one and only offering to Soul music.. how sad is that ..i could listen to her all day… every day. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 245.00 Sonny Jones Stolen Moments Rare urban New Orleans Soul … don’t you just love it! Especially when it emerges from two of the Crescent City’s most industrious music talents, Al Scramuzza & Eddie Bocage collaborate again, molding uncompromising horn propelled Northern Soul, soften slightly by a team of girls, lovingly adding the chorus.. shrill and sweet in contrast to Sonny rasping. Essentially this recording is a “call & answer” duet started off with a pleading girl-request “for one moment” but there is no Sister credit on the label, even though this mysterious lady owns a beautifully purring vocal. Flip it over for an highly coveted “on your knees” Deep Soul ballad, shimmering with all the same ingredients as the A-side but taken down to a funeral pace by sorrow-filled Sisters and a droning hammond. Two perfect examples of 60s New Orleans Soul, distilled with the street experience . Very seldom comes to market and condition is blinding! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 184.00 Tranells Blessed With A Love Buckle Up!! THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,784.00 Harold Andrews You're A Winner C/w We Got To Get Back Together Note this is NOT the known ballad version.. but a mysterious F-2655* mix, which is right-on-the-money upbeat Northern Soul. (You can Compare the huge difference between the two mixes on You Tube). You will find this “unknown” version massively of more interest to the Northern Soul collector. Click the soundfile to hear the undeniable potential for an extremely rare attention-grabbing Northern Soul to take hold.. Yet again the Californian Mr,. Andrews delivers something special - not only with this vinyl-anomaly. But also with the flipside - a slab of Deep Soul “Otis” would have been proud of. Two fabulous Soul cuts - with today’s lead a real-find! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 205.00 Hit Pack Never Say No To Your Baby C/w Let's Dance The mysterious Hit Pack could just as easily called themselves “The Roberts” On this 45 the gatherings one and only single for Motown was created on both sides by Robert Staunton & Robert “Stick To Me” Walker, with allegedly Robert Dobyne booming out the vocal, on a proper uncomplicated Northern Soul stomper, flip it over for some gritty Detroit “Tittyshakin’” Boo-Ga-Loo. Surprisingly “noncommercial” for Motown riding high in 1965 but not surprising that this release failed miserably in Great Britain, with the Brits fully occupied with adulation for The Supremes, The Miracles, The Temptations, Four Tops etc. etc. Tamla Motown condition conscious worriers, can rest assured an upgrade of this flawless example would be too challenging to contemplate. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 175.00 Ivorys Please Stay C/w I'm In The Groove Note this is release # 470 the FIRST press of this NS floor-magnet. Seldom if ever seen for sale - we must point out that the label has had restoration (see scan) writer credits neatly added - the vinyl has surface marks but plays but plays magnificently. Carefully check out the soundfile lifted directly off this highly desirable disc. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,164.00 Masqueraders How C/w I'm Gonna Make It The Masqueraders undoubtedly one of the most talented Soul teams ever assembled. Over the years recording for a multitude of labels and I’m finding myself unable to think of one single track I don’t like. The Masqueraders - consistently delivering quality.. was their brand.. Before you is their most-coveted 45, not only because it was released on one of Detroit’s most-sought-after labels but because it gives up not one but two utterly magnificent Northern Soul dancers. The topside may today, be considered a classic, but it is equally well received at the “rare” venues, as it is at the oldies orientated events. Never suffering from too much exposure. The flipside must be held in equally high-regard by those who scratch below the surface for their tunes, as most feel it is equally mesmerizing. As the lead vocal changes from a creamy soulful schmooze to a snarling angry guy on a mission, stating his case hanging onto a thumpin’ dance arrangement. Against all odds this copy, is one the few “La Beat” 45s that escaped the trauma of flooding and has two very acceptable labels just a couple of insignificant h2o zits (see scan). The vinyl is truly immaculate underlined by paper-chard still hanging from the punched-out center hole, evidence of almost no human-contact. A 45 that is so very, very challenging to find this Detroit double-helping of perfect vocal-group Northern Soul in this near flawless condition. Click the sound-file to remind yourself just what a superior offering the 45 is… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,114.00 Helen Shapiro Stop And You Will Become Aware Everything that could be said about this British only “Hurricane Smith” crafted Northern Soul stompin’ classic, has already been said and requires no repeating… I really don’t feel I could lift this 45’s desirability or reputation any higher than it already is.. So let us just mention CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION! You will not acquire a finer, cleaner, unblemished copy than this near perfect offering - it is without question the finest example I’ve seen in memory. No DJ action whatsoever just a precious admired file copy and utterly flawless in every respect! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 261.00 Betty Winston C/w Bobby Robinson Spellbound C/w Ain't No Sun (since You've Been Gone) Recent “forum” discussions about this unissued Detroit Northern Soul beauty - jogged my memory to thinking I have an acetate of this somewhere; then purely by chance, a month later I found it. Only God knows how long it has been languishing in unfiled, unprocessed stock, but how refreshing was it to hear again the genius of Richard Popcorn Wylie? From the late 70s when Richard Popcorn Wylie’s unissued work was appearing on UK RCA’s Grapevine labels. ie Betty Boo “Say It Isn’t So”, some acetates of recordings not used as Grapevine 45 releases, got circulated to a few privileged NS DJ’s. Before you today is a 7” UK cut acetate aimed at DJ use… “Spellbound” being a stunning example of “Popcorn’s” work and of course his consistent rare-talent for crafting, what later became peerless Northern Soul. As a bonus there’s a cool version of “Ain’t No Sun (Since You’ve Been Gone” on the flipside… I’d like to tell you more of how in came into my possession but I honestly can’t remember, it may well have been decades ago… sacrilege!! ..as this killer requires to be in a NS DJ’s box, as Northern Soul of this calibre begs to grace the club turntables again… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 476.00 Barbara Dane I'm On My Way Hard-Core Madame R&B dancer - orginal first version of a gleaming clean “white” label promo copy - not to be confused with the later and inferior version on Capitol. 3 Trey press is the only way to acquire the meaty, in-your-face defiant version. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 260.00 Roger Washington You're Too Much C/w I Need Somebody Floor lifting New York R&B infused Soul Dancer. An impressive Joe Davis D.I.Y. project with the reliable talents of Larry Lucie adding weight to the lyrics. Top side travels a bumpy blend of screeching horns and highly strung guitar work as Roger Washington enthusiastically spits out his appreciation of a beauty with a lady with “Big Brown Eyes” perfectly mixing the Soul Sound and the R&B Blues attitude, supremely bridged by a spectacular Sax-break. Flip it over to be moved by strolling Deep Soul ballad also featuring that skillfully plucked Blues- Guitar. Two strong sides, but more importanly this 45 is tough to find in clean condition. ie Sparkling labels and near flawless vinyl; close inspection of both sides reveal one light blemish not affecting play whatsoever. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 186.00 Ester Byrde Touch Me Take Me Vocal & Instrumental The 1975 original version that many think superior to the better known Rita Wright on 1978 UK Jet. Which ever “take” you prefer, there can be no disputing which 45 is the rarer of the two. With this listing pressed on a tiny independent London enterprise and suffering from limited promotion and stunted distribution. If my memory serves n=me correctly the Soulful Stepper by Rita Wright was discovered first and exploded into “monster” status on the 90s capital soulful stepper scene. The original is so much sexier, with Esther’s vocal sparking a male lusting that Rita cannot match. Seldom seen for sale and this copy as you can see and hear is immaculate Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 70.00 Romeo Taylor When You Made Love Part 1 & 2 A dreamy Soul ballad from this highly talent street-level label owner. We his mind firmly fixed, you do get the impression this song was especially written and performed for the lady in his life. As Romeo delivers a real-deal Romeo performance of passion. John Manship Auction Results 4 -2 - 2015
JOE TORQUAY replied to JOE TORQUAY's topic in Look At Your Box
hi, moved to north wales in 66 a few weeks before the world cup, used to go back over the years, remember the scotch club in ellacombe as it had had a few names before that, we used to go to the yacht and the 400 club which was right on the harbour side, lot of scooters around in 66 we went on runs to plymouth and exeter among other. a club called the key club in plymouth, went there a few times. most pubs wouldn't sell scrumpy to tourists as it was too strong for them, pubs that did watered it down or only sold half-pints. -

Soul Incorporated My Proposal Let’s Get Serious - Very Serious A Michigan Monster! and a record that so few Northern Soul collectors can boast of ever owning… From the mind of a Northern Soul icon - Cecil Washington - who writes, arranges and produces this mighty-mover. The Off-Beat lead vocal flirts with the horn crammed arrangement creating the perfect Northern Soul experience, uplifting feelgood dance-demander; lifted to even greaster heights by a perfectly timed and utterly compelling guitar instrumental break that just seals this 45 as one of the all time greats in the Rarest Of The Rare genre. Two label are immaculate - a-side vinyl is so near perfect. The insignificant flipside vinyl has a few light marks.. So rare this is the first time it has made an appearance on the Manship Auction - do not pass by! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 3,867.00 Out Of Sights Tears Don't Care Who Cry C/w I've Got To Be Me One of five 45s this stand-out vocal group released for Cleveland based SARU label. In previous years this energetic vocal group workout was maybe a little to Norman Whitfield inspired for Northern Soul attention. But as we all know, times they are a changin’. FUNK is “In”, vocal group Funk especially popular as this recording see-saws from fluid Northern Soul back in Funk and then back again. Lou Raglands influence evident throughout the session.. The hardest thing about acquiring this elusive 45 is condition. We’ve had over the years the occasional scratchy example - but in flawless condition this disc is a challenge. In the past for Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00 Tony Martin Talkin' To Your Picture Do You Seriously Collect British Tamla Motown 45s? Are you one of those painfully particular types, looking for the “impossibly” flawless DEMO’s. Those impossible 45s in perfect condition…? Well, here’s one hardly anybody on Planet Earth owns in a flawless state… So any TMG collecting curmudgeons, we advise you not bid on this, as you will find there is absolutely nothing to pick fault with.. Perfect Red & White DEMO’s - the very pinnacle of TMG collecting.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 86.00 Billy Thompson Black-eyed Girl C/w Kiss Tomorrow Good-bye Wand Records the darling-label of the Northern Soul aficionados, is right up there alongside Okeh etc. The diverse wealth of product, the mysteriously RARE 45 where only a handful are known, the standout Soul Greats like Chuck Jackson, Maxine Brown have kept this label close to NS Hearts for decades, by constantly having the power to tantalize the collector. Billy Thompson’s only record for Wand underlines the net Scepter/Wand cast whilst releasing independent recordings. This Boston, Massachusetts production was made possible when two active musical locals Herschel Dwellingham & Barry Richards came together to cover Danny White’s highly emotional Deep Soul song “Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye”… with the Northern Soul thumper written by those producers languishing on the flipside… Now considered a top-quality underplayed certainty, jogging a few old-school minds back to the mid-70s when this 45 was receiving the turntable action it deserved, but fortunately never having the dubious honor of being bootlegged so remaining high up in the NS coveted league today. If Scepter/Wand fascinates you as much as it does me, there is an in-depth, painstakingly researched book by Steve Guarnori entitled “SCEPETER/WAND FOREVER which should hit the market very soon. Revealing many previously undocumented facts on the company, artists and it’s records… it will be utterly unmissable…. as is this Rare and totally immaculate condition 45; a STOCK copy giving up mesmerizing Northern Soul and Deep Soul on one elusive disc. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 181.00 Sam Cooke Another Saturday Night Your formative years after leaving school, shape in many ways your musical tastes, clothing preferences and your future lifestyle. I had already been introduced to Soul music by my elder brothers friends, all MODS although my “Bro” had lousy taste in most everything including music. I started to frequent the MOD preferred haunts - one of those being the “Bali Hai” room downstairs at the Nottingham Palais. How cool was this I thought Soul music and plastic Palm Trees and at midnight the dancefloor revolved - boy I had arrived (having never heard of The Twisted Wheel, The Mojo etc) the real hip places. I considered the “Bali Hai” the center of my fashion & music universe. To this day I can remember the DJ’s top-spins Guy Darrell “I’ve Been Hurt” Bob Keene Orchestra “Winter Again” and I loved Sam Cooke’s “Another Saturday Night” I eventually after Select-A-Disc foraging trips I owned all three. Then I was taken to The Catacoombs, The Mecca, Va Va’s and the “Bali Hai” was just a bad memory, except the incomparable Sam Cooke, a man I still delight in listening to today. But what really gets me with this record is this offering is the “DEMO”, can’t even remember the last time I saw one.. a timeless all time fave from my youth and looking so alluring in this rare form. I bet I’m not the only Soul Boy with this type of wincing recall…who would buzz inside in the presence of this Promo.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 42.00 Various Various Soul Memorabilia What an interesting collection of Soul goodies - all original 60s memorabilia. inc: Two stunning artist pics 8 by 10” authentic original promo glossy photographs of two highly respected NS Divas. Fontella Bass & Jackie Ross. The highly sought after British SUE and British ISLAND 1967 catalog Please NOTE” Island catalog has 28 pages and includes all the Sue listings” includes the incredibly RARE 1963 “RHYTHM & BLUES GAZETTE” which just preempted the birth of the TWISTED WHEEL by a few months, underlining the underground R&B movement bubbling up. plus as a bonus of a rather “used” but utterly fantastical 1963 10 page Motown catalog entitled “It’s What’s In The Groove That Counts”. We would without exception, stand this item alone and auction it. But there are some non-authentic autographs in it. really nice package.. that could never be repeated - EVER!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 93.00 Barbara Howard I Don't Want Your Love C/w The Man Above Foolproof Sister Funk for today’s Rare Soul Scene! Rattling rimshots, Squealing vocals, screaming sax, honky horns, twanging bass guitar, angered girlfriends doing the chorus.. ..do we need anything else? Yes we need - attitude, defiance, angry PMT fueled belligerence… and the combative Ms Howard delivers it all….by the truck load! Real Deal modern dancefloor FUNK from a lady you’d be wise not to antagonize… Dreamy Soul Ballad fans - the flip also showcase’s this Sisters vocal prowess… with a heart. , Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 143.00 Moments You Said Girl Group Northern Soul at its best! Finger-clicking, hand-clapping Motown-inspired recording benefiting from an emotionally-exquisite lead vocal and outstanding support from her girlfriends “Hey! Hey!!” choruses. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL - sister-style This mid-60s Brooklyn New York conceived dance groove, we just never see in clean condition, as you can tell this copy is just sublime - hardly a blemish - occasional sleeve brush hairline nothing else to spoil the vinyls perfectness. Flipside label is signed by writer/producer William Linton which some will see as a provenance bonus. Essential to own.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 784.00 Berry Gordy Jr., To Be Loved - An Autobiography The rarely seen and highly sought 1994 ORIGINAL FIRST EDITION HARDBACK ISBN 0-7472-1417-4 Complete with original dust cover with everything in near perfect condition. For Motown aficionados this 432 page autobiography is not only essential reading, the hardback is also the original UK press - so very hard to find in this flawless state. A book to be cherish and treasured for life, if Berry Gordy’s unsurpassed Black Music success story is a source of inspiration to you. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 36.00 Age Of Bronze I'm Gonna Love You C/w I'm In Love Vinyl vs Styrene! Has never been more important than when encountering this sumptuous double helping of 60s vocal-group Soul. The Gold label styrene press, sadly more often than not has suffered DJ stylus fatigue in varying amounts. The topside being a glorious Northern Soul dancer it will over the years have had to deal with the rigors of the Northern Soul circuit. However the much-rarer Yellow label press was pressed in robust vinyl and is harder to find by a factor of at least 25 to 1. So the lucky owner can, without fear spin this Fab tune no stylus weariness will ever afflict this killer tune. When there’s a choice, it is a “No Brainer” to seek out VINYL when the disc is this good and likely to get lots of DJ attention - it’s a must! This copy is utterly flawless! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 282.00 Bobby Paris I Walked Away When this 45 was recorded in 1967, California thought the 800 miles of the San Andreas Fault was on the move - when it was first spun at Cleethorpes Pier the faithful thought an old WW2 floating mine had been detonated below… Like a rumbling Tsunami heading for shore, Bobby Paris invades the dancefloor like nothing elser - more power, more presence than any other mid-tempo NS 45 ever to grace the turntables… proven by the fact 40 years on and it still has the crowd tripping over each other to find adequate space to perform.. Potent in the extreme and seldom seen on the market - especially in this totally flawless condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 343.00 Steve Karmen Band (featuring Jimmy Radcliffe) Breakaway Part S 1 & 2 Northern Soul cover-ups many do not appreciate but when a record of this capacity get christen “The Back Ship To Hell” you’ve just gotta love the imagination and passion put into “made-up” titles like that.. I can remember hearing this at the Blackpool Mecca whether it was Ian Levine’s furtive imagination responsible or not - I personally think it’s one of the visionary titles ever thought of. Listen to this magically explosive piece of Northern Soul, you can almost see the “Black Ship” emerging from the mist on a wave of molten rock… NORTHERN SOUL AT ITS MOST PERSUASIVE!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 122.00 Bob Kuban And The In-men The Cheater Seriously Rare 1965 British Red & White of this MOD Club anthem. Twisted Wheel, Mojo, Nite Owl, and all the London 8 til late hangouts would reverberate to this top-drawer “Blue-Eyed” Soul anthem that still today gets them up on the floor. Leavin’ this slab of British Eye-Candy aside for one moment, this 45 carries with it one ironically horrific tale. Lead singer of the Bob Kuban Band was one “WalterScott”, who disappeared in 1983, as his wife was cheating with a James Williams, who not only murdered his own wife, he also murdered Walter Scott so he could be with Scott’s wife, drastic but true. The songs lyrics “He’ll Take Your Girl” “Look Out For The Cheater” came home to roost sadly in Walter Scotts real life; his body was found 4 years later in cistern. James Williams got life for the two murders and recently died in prison ..obviously cheating didn’t pay kind dividends for Mr. Williams or indeed the singer who made this song one of the mid-60s greatest “dance” tunes. Before you is its most-sought after format. But beware Red & Whites can bring out the worst in some people…some British Collectors could “Kill” for ownership. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 86.00 Robert Parker I Caught You In A Lie “You Said He Was Your Cousin - But I Found Out He Wasn’t” For decades this delightful New Orleans conceived dance stroller was a major spin for the SKA / Reggae DJ one of only a few “Soul” titles that regularly featured in top Jocks set. Johnny Taylor’s - If That Ain’t Loving You (For More Reasons Than One” is another title to be honored by the Jamaican music scene. Recently though after years of occasional Soul jock airings, this Robert Parker’s most elusive NOLA Northern Soul recording has jumped to the fore in NS DJ sets. A few times recently I’ve witness very strong dancefloor response when the needle is dropped..this 45 is on the UP! So when a flawless White Demo comes along, it fits nicely into our weekly affordable must-have category… Two clean labels and vinyl to match.. yes must-have! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 136.00

JOE TORQUAY replied to Steve L's topic in Look At Your Box

Spider Turner I've Got To Get Myself Together C/w Where I See You Baby The versatile Mr. Turner with his most-wanted 45 that has recently exploded into being one of the biggest dancefloor pleasers on the Northern Soul circuit. Currently enjoying massively enthusiastic response, on the back of more concentrated DJ plays than it received in past years. Listen to the rather slick arrangement, as the girl-group chirps away in the background complimenting Spyder’s rich vocal, giving up flawless mid-tempo Northern Soul with the addictive qualities that made some of the greats of this pace so very valuable. Bobby Kline, Tommy Ridgley, quickly jump to mind as comparison’s of this increasingly popular NS style. This 45 is on a steep climb, the NS G-Force will no doubt take it’s demand higher and higher.. maybe into another stratosphere. Flipside ain’t bad either.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,263.00 Creations Unlimited Corruption Is The Thing C/w Chrystal Illusion Over the last few years, many of Europe’s more upfront Rare Soul Jock’s leanings towards the funkier production, has suddenly toppled over into a raging lust to find the rarest 45s with Funk driven productions. This extremely rare Cleveland crafting sits tightly into that genre. With the bonus of a “DJ SHADOW” break at the beginning. The obscure but defectively christened “Soul Kitchen” street-label again serves up a proper “Ghetto” recording. A defiant vocal punches daylight into a WahWah and cowbell mix. Electric “Black funk at its most demonstrative. Flip it over the band are still on the same quest.. to destroy with bad-attitude guitar playing, whipping up an orgy of twitching plectrums.. You gotta just love these tiny Soul labels - offering up uniquely formulated Black Music.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 655.00 Empires You're On Top Girl C/w Slide On By Seems like it’s been an absolute age, since we’ve been able to list this Northern Soul trophy-piece, 6 years to be precise James Chavis certainly knew how to craft superior vocal-group Northern Soul has proven on a number of occasions on his Chavis / Candi stable of labels. But all but a few are ridiculously hard to acquire this example being the toughest! Ironic as it is also in our eyes and many other his finest work. Nothing short of Northern Soul brilliance, as the group weave a vocal tapestry through a piano and hammond arrangement crafting an overwhelmingly fine harmony dancer. The interchanging vocal pitches, change in lead and back again and the falsetto intervention provides the listener with one of the finest vocal-group performances to ever be aired on the Northern Soul circuit. Truly scintillating vocals… The flip is obviously not as good but acts as a good diversion from the inspiraionally flawless top side. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,021.00 Martha Reeves No One There C/w (i've Given You) The Best Years Of My Life Comfortably sitting at the top of the most-popular Tamla Motown NS 45s, with the added attraction, that it never received a USA release as a 45. Shimmering with everything required for the Northern Soul girl-dancer to become “lost” in - an exquisite mid-tempo from the desk of the great Johnny Bristol carrying a guarantee to swell the “floor” … But in this case as a flawless 1971 DEMO, it will also turn heads as it spins.. Musically and visually - gorgeous! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 348.00 Us Everyday People Without Your Sweet Loving C/w You're The One For Me MOTOWN MOONLIGHTING? For this weeks under-the-radar Northern Soul rarity to consider, we go to Detroit, to the label that provided the Northern Soul collector with that fine but “undervalued” 45 by Tony Birchett - Don’t Put Out The Fire & also offering the Detroit collector the only other known “Reggie Alexander” 45. Making this mostly “unknown” example huge validation as a Motor City rarity. Not overlooking the fact that this 45 is riddled with Motown connections. Both sides are JOBETTE Music guided by two Motown stalwarts Clarence Paul & Morris Broadnax - and it shows as both sides IMHO are fabulous. The side we lead with is a horn-powered mid-tempo Northern Soul Crossover groove benefiting from the pairings Motown apprenticeship, with a strong “Stevie Wonder” inspired lead vocal, shrill mixed-vocal-group chorus makes for a smooth fluid NS dancer… Flip it over to be treated for an extraordinary downbeat experience, moody, mysterious mood-changer that builds skyward on a wave of vocals and horns… listen and melt!! Soul spiked with FUNK is the flavour of the time; so check out this buoyant dance tune, as the gathering mix chants, shouts and smooth vocals into this persistent dance groove, peaking with an highly skilled jazzy guitar break. So retaining the flipside “Go Ahead And Laugh” was issued as support to “I’m Still Loving You” Tamla 54110. Tamla 54106 is a major gap in all but the very top Motown collections. This UK press by a twist of fate was issued on the strength of Kim Weston’s momentous “stand-alone” performance singing “A Little More Love” on ATV “Ready Steady Go” - not that it enhanced sales - because this 45 too is more often than not a gap in UK Tamla Motown collections. This copy as you can see and hear is in magnificent condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 105.00 Billy Clark Too Bad - Too Sad C/w You'll Never Make It Alone PROPER NORTHERN SOUL from Washington D.C.! Click the soundfile - stand back, await the scorching lift-off, as an uncompromising Lonnie Brown & Larry Davis production jolts you straight into dance-mode, with saxophonist Billy Clark heading up the credits for the raucous recording! Screeching Horns ignite visions of shiny-puffed-up cheeks, pumping the brass for all it’s worth. Leads vocal (Lonnie Brown) is just as convincing, direct, muscular and relentless. As he urgently pants out defiant lyrics after being “cheated” on and he’s in no mood for forgiveness. For many decades now this has been recognized as the real-deal without ever reaching the heights a record of this quality warrants. The only reason I can think of, is not enough copies to go round the DJ’s, with the dearth stunting its exposure or is it the flipside having been gobbled up by those Japanese Deep Soul extremists. PROPER DEEP SOUL! Now flip it over for the second helping of Real-Deal Soul! That worldwide Deep Soul aficionados have been lauding over for the same amount of time. The horns fall into a sorrowful mood, the hammond drops down to a funeral paced whirring, the girls decorate Billy’s obvious grief with subtle despairing choruses. This NORTHERN SOUL & DEEP SOUL at it’s very finest! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 199.00 Jacki Bond Why Can't I Love Him Extremely elusive British only 1966 Sister Northern Soul from the desk of Pam Sawyer & Lori Burton prolific USA pairing responsible for so many fine Northern Soul offerings. Presumably Lionel Segal boss at Strike Records of London received one of those USA publishing promo acetates for his consideration; deciding on giving his secretary her second chance to make a name for herself, her first “Strike” 45 failing completely, sadly this one too, followed suit. Sadly because the side we adore, was relegated to a flipside, even though it was a superior finger-clicking “Soul” inspired dance tune. With everything it takes to break through, perhaps an executive decision that cost “Strike” and Jackie Bond a more fruitful career. Although Jacki’s “Soul” suited vocal, attracted interest from Larry Page’s “Page One” records where she once again released a “Soul” influenced dance tune “Billy Sunshine”, even with a change of name to “Judi Scott” she again failed to achieve sales. Jacki Bond another worthy “British Soul” girl who carved out some great tunes in the 60s this one being not only her best, but also by far her rarest and most-wanted! So now listen to, strong Northern Soul - British production, influenced by two stand-out Amercian writers, performed by a lady, who with a bit of luck could have become an household name. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 55.00
