Gold Brick I've Been Trying This weeks Sweet Soul offering makes the word “rare” seems rather inadequate in this case of the unknown band “Gold Brick” getting to grips with The Impressions timeless masterpiece “I’ve Been Trying”. This is without question not only the most obscure and rarest version of the song, but also carries an unique identity of it’s own, as the D.I.Y. homemade atmosphere seeps into your skin, as the lead vocalist bares his pain with a gently-tortured-fractured approach to the lyrics; then joined by an ice-cold falsetto, gliding around in the background, only coming to the fore at exactly the right moments. QUALITY!! and EXTREMELY RARE Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 139.00 Anderson Brothers I Can See Him Loving You Before you today is the 1974 ORIGINAL 10” studio acetate! A Northern Soul classic that was so popular in the 70’s, the NS counterfeiters bootlegged this title, fully there times. The counterfeits often appear on other auction-sites with ambiguous descriptions, with the latest misleading counterfeit listing sold for £150+, ouch! The original GSF promo is ridiculously rare, but here is an opportunity to own the unique original “Direct-Cut” airing real depth of recording, lush strings swirl around, as the Anderson Brothers deliver pre-disco Northern Soul! FOOTNOTE: I have to tell a humorous story Val Shively told me decades ago. A notorious English bootlegger walked into his shop - and after a few minutes declared “I want all those up there” on the upper racks of his vinyl-emporium. Val asked “What..All Of Them?” “Yes I’ll buy the lot!” Val thinking what a fantastic sale, he’d just moved all his 100’s of GSF 45’s in one shot… as he got them down onto the counter, the buyer announced “NO not the records, just the GSF sleeves” Within days the first Anderson Brothers GSF counterfeits with the prominent New York press “ridge” style label were on sale in England, masquerading as mint original PROMO’s adorned with the company sleeves. Oh, the tricks pulled on collectors back in the good old days! …no tricks with this listing, just exclusive ownership of a Northern Soul Legend! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 487.00 Felony Theft When You Have Love C/w Run For Cover 1972 soulful-crossover Northern that gives you twice the pleasure - both sides giving up rare inventive independent dance soul! Top side is an uplifting feel-good vocal group relish, that currently enjoys residence in a few lucky play-boxes of some of the most-renowned upfront DJ’s. Not surprising, as it’s an instant reaction dance tune, at dead-the-right pace for today’s scene Soulful dance scene.Vocally it is slick, precise and together; a persistent guitar riff drives the rhythm for the interchanging leads to weave in and out of.. LOVE IT! Flip it over and the pace goes up a notch and the arrangement becomes much more adventurous, with the same vocal presence but much more urgent in it’s delivery, emerging as a more funky/Jazz dance presence, with a wild sax break adding to it’s unusual texture. Not such an ideal dance tune perhaps but certainly a strong enough to be worthy of your attention. So getting back to the A-side ….it’s rather special isn’t it? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 300.00 Mark I I I Should I Believe You C/w Peaceful Lonely Fire From the same man who crafted the Unlimited Four & Mel Hueston 45s on Chanson; comes this double-helping of vocal group Northern Soul that I’m having difficulty deciding which side I prefer, as both sides submit slick Northern Soul dancers. Topside arranger / producer Howard Collins leads with thumping brass which collides head-on with aggressive vocals supported by smooth vocal harmony backing and chorus, peaking with a brass & bass guitar break before the attitude returns… fabulous vocal-group Northern Soul with big-balls! Flip it over and Mr. Collins again shows off his talents with an altogether different animal - a super smooth Northern Soul crossover dancer seeps from the headphones like a creamy soup of soul. Personally I adore this side as it builds the atmosphere on a raft of rippleless harmony and subtle trumpet flurries to end in perfection. Note: “Peaceful Lonely Fire” does not appear on the group’s silly-rare Canadian Quality #1936 release, it was replaced by another raucous NS stomper entitled “Anyway”. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 300.00 -

Johnny Watson I Say, I Love You 1964 PROMO in spanking impeccable condition! Johnny Otis & Ray Agee join forces to guide the Johnny Watson through this top-drawer R&B dance tune! Compelling n’meaty stop-start production contrasting a feisty girl-gathering against Johnny Watson’s snarling defiance against the plea of.. “Get Those Women Off Your Mind” A hopeless request which Johnny tries to convince his fidelity with words of love, but his voice hides none of his scheming - you just know he’ll be after the ladies the first chance he gets .. this is Northern Soul R&B story-telling at it’s very best. Only the likes of Charles Sheffield have stirred my legs into wriggling under desk like this statement has..an awesome song - in unbelievable condition! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 287.00 Barry Benson Stay A Little While Red & White’s you just can’t ignore a Red n’ WHITE. How cool to hear this British release Northern Soul charmer again. Straight from the center of that Golden Era of DJ’s like the legendary Nev Wherry, Alan Rhodes, Rick Scott who almost weekly would unveil some catchy British discovery. It was an era of “Pop” but very good pop that went hand in hand with Barry St. John, Micky Moonshine, John E. Paul, Mark Lloyd ..we could go on and on listing those British only releases that reverberated around Wigan Casino, Cleethorpes Winter Gardens, Yate etc. during the mid-to late 70s before the Stafford’s Top Of the World DJ’s like Knights on White horses came charging over the hill to rescue, to put Soul back on the menu. Having said that, this 45 was some much better than some choices, take a long listen, it has undeniable charisma, that is why Nev Wherry turned it into a Monster tune causing more Junk Shop frenzy he so often ignited. There is also of course the seductive allure of the RED & WHITE Demo and it’s palpable gleaming condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 85.00 Satisfaction Unlimited Think Of The Children Seriously rare 1972 USA Soul album, crafted by Ron Dunbar & Winford Terry (aka Johnny Terry of Just Brothers & Jack Montgomery fame) the pairing forge vocal-group-soul so divine, we have sound-filed SEVEN tracks of the 12 tracks on offer. An album crammed full of real-quality, with four tracks delivering fabulous examples of vocal-group Crossover Northern Soul. Here comers the astonishing fact - not a one of the 12 tracks ever received a 45 release! Every track album only - offering LP & DJ collecting at it’s most essential. Condition is impeccable, as you can see sleeve still shrink wrapped label perfect & vinyl flawless. Listen and melt… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 184.00 Tripplettes That Man Of Mine Get ready for girl group soul at it’s most passionate. The 3 girls serve up a beseeching testament of aching frustration, as that old, old story unfolds of “that man of mine” is running around with every girl in town, but she wouldn’t change him. Listen and hear some tangible pain delivered in the sweetest way possible. A Bittersweet session of pure quality and genuine feeling. From a city that gave up so many great songs & artists over the decades, Albany, Georgia this is one of your very best offerings. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 410.00 -
Johnny Hampton Not My Girl C/w Don't Lead Me On A magnificent copy of this Detroit Northern Soul trophy! Over the decades we’ve seen it all, yellow bootlegs bleached and passed off as promo copies. Fake Nashville Matrix’s scratched in the deadwax by a devious drunken hand late Friday night, ready to slip in the sales box for that poorly lit local all-nighter sales box or worse the ill informed buy the styrene repro…. Before you today is the RARELY seen authentic original press with the Nashville Matrix in the deadwax. As you can see BOTH labels are flawless, with the vinyl to match. Listen to Detroit at it’s raucous potent best, and then enjoy a nearly as good flipside that has been neglected by all, for nearly 40 years. A Northern Soul trophy-piece in the condition that will retain and increase in value through the years. Dare we say, those who seek safe vinyl investments, you should not pass by… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,614.00 Blues & Soul Edition 12 Edition 12 July 1968 An issue that digs deep, cover picture cover is The Valentinos which is the starting point for reviewing some obscurer soul artists, some of which were previously undocumented… Where else could you find a artist picture of Lisa Richards a one recording only lady who 45 on Jovial is considered one of the greatest Deep Soul sister sessions of the 60s, or full group picture & bio of Sari & the Shalimars who obscure Veep release has just been made available in the UK by United Artists. Vivian Reed also receives the same treatment, great artist pic and bio. More well known Soul are artist enjoy full page pictures & bio’s like The Dells & Aaron Neville. Looking harder we find a rare pic of Dennis Edwards. Plus all the usual eye-catching Record Company ads, charts, reviews. This copy is utterly flawless other than than uniquely additicive scent of 1968 paper, that only historical artifacts share.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 116.00 Robert Knight Love On A Mountain Top According to an early 70s Radio One Northern Soul documentary, Blackpool Mecca DJ Ian Levine was single-handedly responsible for launching this over looked flipside from obscurity, to Northern Soul top classic status. Earlier in 1967 Mr. Knight was pick-pocketed when his wonderful “Everlasting Love” was Xeroxed by the “Love Affair” with a lone Steve Ellis backed by girls-of-substance in the form of Kay Garner, Madeline Bell, Kiki Dee & Lesley Duncan to achieve a UK #1. Those plagiarists tried it again with “My Rainbow Valley” and would probably had made it a hat-trick of Robert Knight copying had “Love On a Mountain Top” not been obscured on a B-side. From Ian Levine’s turntable to countrywide notoriety, not only an all-nighter favourite, but also a Youth Club tune, that influenced hoards of teenagers to join the early 70s in-vogue Northern Soul movement. So today I’m quite happy to offer it in by far and away it’s rarest form - the 1968 British DEMO! Any serious British Soul collector will confirm this is no easy find.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 107.00 Claudine Clark The Strength To Be Strong C/w Moon Madness SUE 4039! OK so how many of you who have spent a lifetime foraging British rare-soul vinyl actually own this SUE rarest-of-the-rare 45. Well, now we’ve narrowed that down to hardly anyone - who can now honestly say they own a flawless LIKE NEW copy of this 1967 vinyl-mirage! Click the sound file, rarity, condition will then not be the only thing you’re impressed with. As this 1964 Philadelphia Bob “Girl Across the Street”Finiz session, serves up two spectacularly emotional Soul screamers Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 213.00

hi, he was selling records on here not very long ago, many thanks for your thoughts, i'll pass them on to fiona and calum his wife and son, regards. joe. -
hi, my friend of more than 40 years has passed away today after a short illness, he's been buying and selling records for about 50 years so i guess just about everyone must have sold or bought something off him. he was very knowledgeable about soul music,he went on buying trips to the usa on a few occasions, martin koppel was one he went to see. we stayed together at prestatyn nearly every year along with other friends, i think he was happiest in the queen vic listening to R&B, or going through the record dealers boxes, with deep sorrow, joe.

Harvey Averne Dozen I Never Learned To Dance C/w Dynamite Popularised at London’s 100 Club in the 1980s, reincarnated with a bang in the 90s and reborn yet again in recent years, this 1971 latin boogaloo gem ensures a teeming dancefloor like no other and is probably the most in-demand of its genre on the northern soul circuit right now. This is legendary release number 007 on Up-Tite, and rarest issue on the label, treasured by DJs, collectors & dancers alike. Jewish New Yorker Averne demonstrates his lifelong passion for latin rhythms in the writing, with arrangement by master-trumpeter Marty Sheller, and vocal from Kenny Seymour Snr. (of Little Anthony & The Imperials) loudly lamenting the neglect he’s suffering from his girl since she learned to dance. The instantly recognisable singular bass riff intro sends dancers sprinting to the floor, where the track explodes into life with staccato horns and funky piano, interspersed with that repeating riff that gives more than a nod to Archie Bell’s Tighten Up. With ‘stop on a sixpence’ breaks throughout to satisfy the most demanding dancers, the infectious beat is incessant until Kenny’s final gasping ad-libs. Flip is a meaty “Funkier” groove - that’s worth a moment of your time also. Vinyl condition has a few surface blemishes, not scratches more signs of over-enthusiastic handling as it’s retrieved from the turntable. Check out the perfect double soundfile lifted from this crucial disc. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 690.00 Dee Dee Warwick Worth Every Tear I Cry I think this is Dee Dee’s greatest offering to Northern Soul and it’s a UK ONLY 45 release. Click the soundfile and listen to an Angel deliver her best with the aid of some of 60s soul most-talented controllers. Written and arranged by Horace Ott, Produced by Motown tutored Robert Bateman and his long time workmate Robert Moseley. This is the only way to own it - and this copy is utterly flawless! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 222.00 Milton And Winston (hall) You Lied C/w My Love Starts Tumbling Down Prepare yourself for the most infectious slice of soul you could ever wish upons your ears. Distant horns reverberate to lay a trail for the Hall’s (Milton & Winston) to follow, a tinkling piano chatters away in the background with the duo complimenting this unique arrangement with high-pitched-vocal and echoing vocal chorus. TOTALLY BRILLIANT! and the fipside is good too.. Not only a very elusive 45 but also never seen in such glorious condition. Our last and only other copy some 10 years ago was in awful condition, label and vinyl trashed and we had collectors begging to own it.. but who could blame - this tune has everything it takes to never leave your head… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 380.00 -

Vibrations Vibrations One of the greatest five-man gatherings in the history of Soul Music with their very RARE 1972 UK release of a 11 track 1971 Philadelphia recordings. NOTE: for some strange reason this LP was NOT issued in the USA. This album showcases their Philadelphia duration for Mandala Records which lead vocalist Carl Fisher wrote most of the material for. Includes a great non-45 Northern Soul dance-track “Man Overboard”. Plus a spectacular sweet soul sensation “Take A Step” + several Funk grooves. Check out the sample sound-file provided from this near mint flawless British beauty! And wonder why such a great album was ignored by it’s USA counterpart? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 51.00 Home Of The Blues July 1966 No. 3 Way before the egotistical boast of “I only collected records by black artists” came the groundbreaking prejudice-free fanzine “Home Of The Blues” the steppingstone for what was to become the world renowned “Blues & Soul”. Jerry Lee Lewis on the front cover of the rare issue #3 from July 1966 but inside is a feast of Northern Soul history from an embryonic scene as it was then. Documenting unique groups like “Rick n’ Beckers” a 5 man black artist Soul band tipped for major success as they bring the house down at the legendary Dean street, London club THE TILES. Unfortunately Rupert Carlton Alfonso Cahar, Eugent Stirling, Ernie wright, Abe Strean & Clive Williamson as a band never cut a record. Edition 3 also covers Roy C’s new 45 and his “Tiles” performance June 9th. 1966. Jerry Lee Lewis bio and new release for the Smash label & their UK counterparts on Philips. Ben E. King bio & discography, plus review of his “Tiles” performance May 23rd 1966m + two pics (see scans) Jimmy Reed Bio, discography covering fully 5 pages. 1966 new releases from the USA! plus some most interesting reviews on the British new release soul 45s - (scans provided) This rare edition #3 is in stunning immaculate condition throughout. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 61.00 Robin Rice I've Had It C/w Wanted The original 3 11-2 863 mix A monster double-helping of the BIG CITY SOUND. This is BEAT BALLAD HEAVEN twice over! Both sides shudder with the mighty influence of Tony Bruno, a maestro of the atmospheric mid-paced New York production. Note this is not only the FIRST 1962 label it is also a far grander version to the SUE distributed 1963 Crackerjack 4016 release, which unfortunately loses so much in an attempt to update the sound. Not only rare, authentic, powerful & superior - but also in PERFECT condition, finding this record utterly flawless is insanely difficult. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 166.00 Danny White Keep My Woman Home C/w I'm Dedicating My Life British SUE addicts, serial up-graders and O.C.D vinyl nuerotics seeking perfection, pay attention. You will NOT find a finer copy of this Twisted Wheel anthem on it’s British release than the one before you today. Perhaps UNPLAYED before the soundfile was lifted, still snugly tucked away in those glossy 60s sleeves that most of their releases hit the shops in. (UK Sue company sleeves were not always used) in fact more often than not SUE left the factory in these plain gloss finish sleeves - some with wavy tops some with straight tops. This listing after very careful inspection show not sign of spindle contact with two perfect labels, vinyl forensics reveal only the lightest of sleeve brush blemishes. A strong clean MINT minus in all respect and absolutely the finest copy I’ve seen. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 139.00 -

Willie Kendrick Change You Ways C/w What's That On Your Finger It’s BLACK It’s IMMACULATE It’s PIED PIPER it’s DETROIT at it best! it’s has TWO SIDES to die for.. It could be yours click the soundfile - cast your gaze over the label scan resist if you can.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 537.00 Romona Collins You've Been Cheating C/w Now That You've Gone This is extremely elusive and relentlessly sought “TM-4320-1” mix with the desirable long instrumental intro. Street-level Toledo, Ohio Northern Soul dancer from this single record artist. Surprising really as the lady has an exquisite vocal, with an ease of range that develops throughout the record, as she defiantly announces she’s leaving “and ain’t coming back”. and uncredited heavy-duty girl-group backing support to her annoyance. I’m a big fan of recordings where the girl shows the guy “the Door” and Ramona does it so well with that “spike” in her voice. Just to remind you this is the LONG intro rarity, not the shortened take that received a brief release the “Sevens” label. Vinyl is neat and clean, plays beautifully as you can hear. A-side label is excellent, flip side label has a light water stain induced ring wear - see scan. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,824.00 Jr. Walker And The All Stars Shotgun 1965 UK mono press, covering Junior’s early work Motown’s Soul label. Including: Soul Club favourites like: Tune Up, Ain’t That The truth, Shotgun, Roadrunner, Monkey jump etc. Every track driven by Junior’s “out-of-step- with-Motown” rasping vocal and crazed sax blows, that became Autry DeWalt’s signature, that would give him near 15 years of hits. This his first album captures the very essence of the man and his 3 teammates. This mono copy, has 2 immaculate vinyls, 2 flawless label. Back cover only reveals light age-browning - totally free of writing, stains or tears. Front cover is clean also, only light occasional laminate veins. Top left hand corner reveals a light surface scuff. Still retains inner-sleeve - completing a fine copy. Hard to find non-hit 12 tracker - essential British Motown Collecting! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 54.00 Bob Relf Blowing My Mind To Pieces C/w Girl, You're My Kind Of Wonderful A record for those of you who seek the rarest format of the very best Northern Soul ever played. Northern Soul legend has it, that the first copy discovered was taken to “The Torch” and given to a DJ who, when the slow middle bit starts, took it off the decks! (if anyone can add names to that story I’ll be glad to tell it). Lou “Gone With The Wind Is My Love” Barretto’s song recovered from it’s early-dismissal, to rise to the most popular of Northern Soul crowd-pleasers circa ‘72 thru ‘75. Invariably seen as the ORANGE label original, bootlegged using the seldom seen YELLOW label as a template, which follows in sequence in colour and style to the previous from #0007 & 0008 releases. In 2013 the YELLOW label original with it’s light gloss paper finish is seldom seen for sale - perhaps rarer in our experience than the orange variation by at a ratio of 50 to 1. One for the Northern Soul classic hunters, who seek there vinyl in it’s rarest format, and of course label run collectors who appreciate continuity. This copy is utterly flawless - having never met a Northern Soul jock before, with no fear of rejection this time round. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 185.00 -
Gene Chandler (i'm Just A) Fool For You - Instrumental You are about to witness a WORLD ONE-OFF Northern Soul masterpiece! The 1966 instrumental version of Gene Chandler’s - Constellation 167 release. The session credits read like a “Who’s Who” of Chicago Soul! Written by Gerald Sims, co-written & produced by Carl Davis; The soaring strings arranged by Sonny Sanders. All under the supervision of Bunky Bill Sheppard. A KILLER tune that will grace the winner with an exclusive; and please let it be a DJ cause this needs to be heard, loud at a packed all-nighter. As this is Northern Soul instrumental time at it very, very rarest and most impressive. A renowned NS collector David Skeen sums it up so aptly with a facebook message “That Gene Chandler is sublime haven’t heard anything as good as that for a long long time… it’s got the lot!!!!!” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,314.00 Vibrations Shake It Up C/w Make It Last The Vibrations rarest soul 45, is another product of their Philadelphia years. Why this 45 is so rare is a mystery but I can count on one hand the number of copies I’ve had the pleasure of listing throughout my lifetime and having only ever found a solitary copy whilst digging, was near 20 years ago, whilst in Hawaii searching for records, I can vouch for it’s serious elusiveness. Topside is a dance trophy just drenched in quality. With everything Philly just dripping from every note, with Vince Montana’s string arrangement decorating the background. For a long time a London area monster, now surely perfect to rock the Northern Soul upfront scene recently invigorated by an injection of FUNKY tunes. Flip it over for another Philly masterpiece a vocal-group stroller from the constantly occupied pens of Thom Bell & Linda Creed again embellished by Vince Montana & Alan Felder no expense spared W.M.O.T. production. Both sides are frighteningly good… but even scarier is it’s rarity! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 204.00 Tony Middleton To The Ends Of The Earth C/w Don't Ever Leave Me What a label vista! This excruciatingly rare and beautiful 1966 Australian release. Offering two sides of the Big City Sound at it’s most convincing. Check out the rumblin’ vocal of Mr. Tony Middleton an icon of the Northern Soul scene, lust over the label, then consider would you enjoy ownership of this 47 year old in utterly perfect condition. Silly question wasn’t it? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 243.00 Steve Parks Movin' In The Right Direction C/w All In A Day Very Rare Bay Area modern soul dancer, that for many years was thought to be a LP track only Solid Smoke apparently only pressed a ridiculously small amount, putting all their efforts into promoting the Steve Parks Solid Smoke 8012 album with the 45 disappearing without trace. The side we lead with was originally the flip, is a subtle production with an easy intro that gently build up pace and substance with a persistent jazzy guitar riff, joined by smooth horns, flute and Mr. Parks emotional vocal. PURE CLASS - RARE CLASS! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 263.00

Darrell Banks I'm The One Who Loves You Everybody’s favourite artist, performing mine & near everybody’s favourite recording! So to own it in it’s rarest most-desirable form possible, should be on every soul-vinyl-head’s bucket-list. Before you today is the July 1969 British DEMO in definitive Mint - condition All that’s left to do is listen to one of the great Soul records EVER made, then make your decision, do you have it buried with you or not. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 166.00 Metaphors Come On Back (to Me) C/w You Have Everything (that A Man Could Love) SWEET SOUL HEAVEN - twice over. Seriously obscure Jimi Ingram project giving up two delicious harmony ballads featuring an icy falsetto lead cradled by elaborate group-support, forming a lush vocal expanse that the lead-vocal pierces with emotional high-pitched pleas…just fabulous. But flip it over and the quality does not dip for a second as the same formula is followed, with same effect, a sweet soul understanding of epic [proportions. I repeat - SWEET SOUL HEAVEN - twice over! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 112.00 Tommy Ridgley My Love Gets Stronger I just adore this record! Could you ever tire of such simplistic genius! Tommy’s soulful-purring is embroidered with some of the finest girl-group backing you could ever wish to encounter. Dorsey Burnette Jimmy Brown C/w Everybody's Angel EMI’s decision to release this Motown country-subsiduary “Melody 116” recording ran against all common sense. The label was building a huge cult-following in the UK in 1965 as the Motown Sound was the “IN” club music. What must those more-dedicated Soul collectors have thought as the ordered another Tamla Motown release from the Friday “release sheets” and received this on the Tuesday; and I wonder how many tried to renege on the order. Thus the legendary UK TMG 534 serious rarity was born. They did the same same mistake 3 releases later with Tony Martin’s - The Bigger Your Heart Is - after that, you would like to think, there was a dismissal of an EMI executive. Then was back to usual business with uninterrupted wave after wave of Motown hits. But if you like 1000’s of others you collect TMG 500 series, t=you will not need reminding how essential this release is to own. As a Red & White DEMO in Mint - pristine condition it is perhaps the most wanted “horrid” 45 on Planet Earth. TMG 534 immaculate DEMO - you will not locate a finer copy! So just do it! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 240.00 Joe Wilson Headed For A Fall C/w Goddess Of Love Stomping New Orleans rarity - on a label that again is causing huge interest on forums as they debate the wealth of rare soul vinyl this Crescent City enterprise churned out. Before you today is one of it’s seriously RARE 45s; A great-big-hunk of Northern Soul that just drips with the capacity to cause-dance-floor-harm. The uncompromising brass production is enriched by Joe’s snarling voice and off we go. This guy was sadly under-recorded, sensational voice with a focused delivery on all his few recordings. Check out his UK Pye release “When A Man Cries c/w Sweetness” because it could possibly be the only way you’ll be sure of owning some of the man’s work. This is RARE - widely unknown, just begging for the right DJ to get it to those hungry masses gagging for new NS stompers to throw themselves around to. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00 Lee Dorsey The Best Of Lee Dorsey SUE - BOYS this is the incredibly elusive 1965 UK press covering his pre-Sansu era and his work on the Fury label. This copy has pristine vinyl & labels - cover both front & back only reveals light age wear and as the scan reveal only minimal insignificant creasing. Rare, Rare, Rare album on Britain’s most-collectable label. Sleeve notes by the legendary Guy Stevens Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 61.00 Lloyd & Glenn What You've Got C/w Feel Good Now Hidden on the flipside of this revered SKA label is a thumpin’ horn-forced Northern Soul dancer, relentless in it’s power & attitude! Check out this stomper, that encapsulates the 60s London MOD, that more and more artists of the period tried to emulate the records feeding the all night Club-Scene; Most likely inspired by Stax & Atlantic recordings that pleasured the club-faithful of the era, Lloyd Robinson & Glenn Brown capture that atmosphere completely, serving up what is today still the right sound to make ‘em move. Flip side will also cause interest from the SKA collectors - the label will cause interest from everyone! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 114.00 Lynne Randell Stranger In My Arms + Picture Sleeve The beautiful London born Lynne Randell - moved to Australia as a little girl and by the age of 16 she was a celebrity. How, as a 17 year old she came under the tutorship of the “great” Bob Crewe is unknown to me. But what a combination with Lynne’s vocal prowess and the inimitable New York team of Bob Crewe, Gary Knight, Herb Bernstein & Ted Cooper crafting yet another Northern Soul monster! Amazingly this Blackpool Mecca, Catacombs & early Wigan Casino dance-floor-pleaser originally sat on a the B-side of a rather ordinary pop recording, until those Northern Soul pioneers again struck “gold” when the rare UK CBS release was discovered. Before you today is this Northern Soul timeless classic, in it’s most-wanted, least seen USA original format. A seldom-seen yellow STOCK copy complete with Picture Sleeve with the gorgeous Lynne in triplicate and a bio on the back cover. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 200.00 -

Groovers I'm A Bashful Guy C/w Just Go For Me The real-heroes of Northern Soul, there are many but not many as consistent as Leonard Jewel Smith Smith. Here are twon of his best on one of te world’s most-wanted labels. Most everything this Los Angeles genius touched met all the criteria that would, in later years, be considered fine Northern Soul. This example is a double-helping of this man’s gift for the 60s dance recording. Aided by Jimmy & Ben Gresham the 3 get everything right! Topside is a vocal group gem, supported by blaring horns, persistent piano and his teammates wailing chorus and the compulsory instrumental..the lead vocal just spews out the poetic lyrics. Validating my statement that Leonard does not miss a trick whilst building a session. On the flipside the team display their versatility with the addition of a prominent Mike Terry style saxophone, prompting a soothing mid-tempo harmony stroller. Two terrific sides - but that what we expect from Leonard “THE JEWEL” Smith. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 312.00 Blues & Soul No. 5 No. 5 February 1968 Ironically Otis Redding’s tragic death December 10, 1967 went unreported in issue #4 January 1968 as Blues & Soul had already gone to press, editorial being prepared early to allow for Christmas. So, it was nearly 2 months later when this iconic magazine could report on the King’s passing. This issue contains “The Otis Redding Story” plus 3 full page Otis pics. Other artist bios and pics include. The O’Jays, O. V. Wright* pictured + bio, The Bar-Kays, Gladys Knight, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell. Plus the feature L-I-V-E which reviews 4 live acts witnessed in the UK in January: Gladys Knight & the pips, Eddie Floyd, Felice Taylor - her debut appearance &Chris Clark. plus the charts and reviews on new vinyl releases. This copy is in the finest condition possible;e it looks like the day it arrived in the mail, February 1968. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 62.00 Conquistadors Sadness And Madness C/w Lonely Was I Two sides of vocal-group Northern Soul that are at last starting to receive attention. Top side is the one that used to send a shivers through you, when hearing it’s frantically paced arrangement, showcasing the slick team work of this Chicago vocal group gathering. Upbeat proper, foot-to-the-floor adrenaline rushing Northern Soul for gymnasts only. But in more recent times it’s the easier to dance to, decidedly soulful harmony dance-groove that has been catching the turntables of the upfront NS Jocks. This 45 has always been a tough-to find rarity - as a WHITE PROMO copy n “like New” condition - I think it could well become a future trophy-piece, as this recording has a long, long way to go to reach it’s peak of awareness. Two great sides just saturated in NS potential .. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 410.00 Dorsey Burnette Jimmy Brown C/w Everybody's Angel EMI’s decision to release this Motown country-subsiduary “Melody 116” recording ran against all common sense. The winning bid was £ 240.00 -
Patterson Twins Gonna Find A True Love Instantly interesting 70s club intro is swept aside as The Patterson Twins inject the level of soul that Southern Soul exponent Terry Woodford intended it to be sung with. It’s one of those songs that just enters your heart on the first hearing and remains filed in the favourite part of you brain with your feet awaiting patiently for it’s next visit. Blending Southern soul lyrics with a Bongo driven dance arrangement can be no easy task. A task made easier by the intensity of the lead vocals and the depth of the girl-group chorus. What you have is SOUL woven into a great dance production… What more does a dance-floor require…? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 277.00 Johnny Ace Mermorial Album The mythical 1961 British original FIRST press! The Godfather of Deep Soul - the first artist I heard perform what was to become the platform for the likes of Otis Redding, Percry Sledge, Arthur Conley to spring from. This album is a tribute to a man ahead of his time, the founder of the aching soul ballad with “Pledging My Love” becoming a trailblazing standard for the emotional lament and arguably the birth of “Soul”. This Memphian tragically died, accidentally in 1954, perhaps after that great recording he was “called” to a higher place. Whilst collecting British release “Soul” albums there is no “higher Place” than this ridiculously hard to acquire rarity! The fully laminated cover is immaculate, labels has a small initial on it, vinyl has some light insignificant surface blemishes, as you can hear it plays superbly clean, clear & true! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 149.00 Metros Since I Found My Baby C/w No Baby PIED PIPER! in it’s most-desirable form This is the seldom witnessed 1966 German press complete with a very neat & tidy picture sleeve. I must have heard “Since I found My Baby” countless times in my life but the magic of the Pied Piper production always makes it a fresh experience, which brings seamlessly to my next comment; How darn good is the flipside which I’ve heard only a very few times in my time on the planet. This tune is every note as good, has been undeservedly neglected over the decades of it’s twin evolving into a timeless Northern Soul classic. From now on none of us has any excuse for playing the obvious - flip it over and turn a few heads. Then show the turntable voyeurs the label and that magnificent sleeve - that few collectors can boast of owning. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 309.00 Sea Shells Quiet Home C/w Another Tear Must Fall Utterly delicious Detroit exquisitely constructed by the one and only Mike Terry. Surely only “the Sax-God” could weave such as eerie atmospheric girl-group session and still make it a truly enchanting Northern Soul winner. It has been quite some while since I’ve seen or heard this truly beautiful tune and how welcome is it, to my ears this 45 never received the full attention it deserved first time round in the 80s, surely a strong renaissance beckons for this Terry-tantalizer from the top-drawer! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 277.00

Errol Dixon The Hoop C/w I Don't Want Tell me a more convincing slab of 60s Dance Soul ever released as UK ONLY than this explosive nugget. Drop the stylus and rock the house, as Errol Dixon takes the style to a new level. This copy is utterly perfect, check the label scan for the astonishing sight of the paper shards still hanging from the machine dink of 47 years ago. Does it get any MINTER than that! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 109.00 Black Music Edition 1 - December 1973 The very first edition of this monthly rival to Blues & Soul. December 1973 IPC Specialist Press debuted with a 56 page colour magazine, which includes Dave Godin’s debut column after leaving Blues & Soul in 1972. Plus a 3 page 15 year history of The Isley Brothers, also boasting a full colour centerfold of pose of Sly Stewart. Black Music aim was to broadened the spectrum of Black Music collecting journalism in Britain not just covering UK & USA Soul but also Reggae, Afro and Jazz. This first edition actually outstripped Blues & Soul at the time - the wars of the British Soul magazine had begun! This edition for obvious reasons is incredibly hard to find - as subsequent monthly releases circulation grew on the back of outstanding writings of Tony Cummings, Carl Gayle, Dave Godin, with USA contributors Bob Palmer & Vernon Gibbs in New York & Dennis Hunt in Los Angeles “Black Music” had the scene covered. Needless to say this issue is full of Artist Pics, Biographies, USA & UK charts, fascinating record company and fashion adverts that give a unique insight into the 1973 black music culture. an essential starting point to collect this highly informative series. Tams What Kind F Fool (do You Think I Am) C/w Laugh It Off A gorgeous 1964 British Red & White DEMO. This 45 The Tams first British 45 release paved the way for groups iconic HMV “Hey Girl Don’t Bother Me” that has for all-time been consider an ultimate British Soul collectors trophy. But just like “Hey Girl” it’s predecessor “What Kind Of Fool” was created by the prolific lyricist Ray Whitely’s who skill in telling a short story to music. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 70.00 Robert Parker Barefootin' The RARE 1966 UK white and red Island press in stunning condition, we think the scans say it all. From the streets of New Orleans to worldwide dance hit! The collaboration of Robert Parker & Wardell Quezerque crafted a dance-craze that became a huge MOD favourite and today still packs the floors at those “Twisted Wheel” rival evenings. The single is now considered a timeless classic - but the album is a different matter. As the original USA press with the yellow label it is seldom seen, but this British 1966 Island release is ultra-difficult album to secure. The condition of this copy is ridiculously clean, as if been filed since it’s release in 1966; hardly a blemish can be detected on vinyl, label or sleeve. If your neurotic about condition and seek only the extremely elusive 60s SOUL LP’s this is for you! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 47.00 Exits Another Sundown In Watts C/w I'm So Glad If you cram Jimmy Conwell, Sir Hank Graham, Godoy Colbert, Gene Page and Arthur Wright into a studio you have every right to expect something very special - and thats what you get with this commercially failed 1969 Los Angeles work-out. NORTHERN SOUL HEAVEN We’ll let the sumptuous sound-file do all the talking as it exhibits beautiful marierd harmonies woven into a classy mid-tempo dance groove. Sweet soul fans will also enjoy the slick flipside. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 410.00 Sonia Ross Let Me Let Free C/w Every Now And Then For lovers of the obscure Sister-Soul tunes that stir your passion and your need. Topside is crossover delight on the highest quality highlighting a boundless vocal that expresses pain and suffering but at the same time beckons you to dance! Rare soulful dance at it’s most captivating. *So on to the other side The flip is a slab Deep Soul capable of tearing your heart from your chest, a young girls torment could hardly be portrayed more painfully as Sonia serves up a hand on broken-heart performance, soothed by considerate male vocal group backing. This is without doubt my favourite Soul-Sister record of the moment. Listen and weep… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 420.00 -

Winfield Parker & The Shyndells I Love You Just The Same How time flies - This 45 is our very FIRST copy for sale in over 15 years, it only seems like yesterday when me Spanner, Butch, Eddie Paz, Rob Underwood would travel that winding 80 miles from Melton Mowbray to Cleethorpes, at the time 1977 the only serious rival Wigan Casino had for the crown of Northern Soul Central. In those days Winfield Parker was firmly in my play list, an all powerful thumpin’ slab of Northern Soul, a dance-floor dismantler of devastating proportions, a stomper all the way from 427 Laurens Street, Baltimore, Maryland to Lincolnshire’s coastline to shake the Winter Gardens to it’s core. Even back in the late 70s this 1965 release was darn difficult to find, today I was rather shocked to find I had no sales history on it whatsoever. Check out this runaway-Northern-Soul-juggernaut and remember you ONLY get this tune on the incredibly rare BLUE label release # 0017. Winfield did re-cut the record for Ru-Jac 0024 a yellow label in 1967 - this version is a dull water ed down Reliant Robin of a version.. and is to be passed over. Do not pass by this one though - when are we gonna see another? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 300.00 Eddie Foster I Never Knew No words from me can elevate this Northern Soul anthem any higher than it already sits. A timeless, enduring classic that never fails to ignite the masses to dance. MINT is a near impossible grade for this record. But this is an utterly flawless copy, label retains FULL depth of blue, vinyl both sides is pristine! This s the “Title” & “matrix” numbers in deadwax variation of the ORIGINAL press. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 500.00 Carolyn Crawford When Someone's Good To You C/w My Heart Bemusingly this Detroit Songbird only released 3 45 for Motown, all of which are fabulous Northern Soul dance tunes BOTH sides. So in all this ladies brief Motown career gave us fully 6 tunes to consider. This her only UK release and sadly the last of her 3. This rarity is a near perfect 1964 UK press offering not only seriously elusive British Tamla Motown but also two of this under-recorded lady’s Northern Soul dancers, both sides of the highest order. So hard to find as this 1964 Stateside release, in any condition whatsoever - so to be able to list a near perfect example is more than pleasing. Do not pass by by - we may never see a copy in this flawless state again. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 166.00 Dysons Faces Original 1977 Washinton D.c. Press WOW! What an album! Conceived in Washington, D.C. mixed by Detroit doyen Clay McMurray. This album serves notice on what 70s should have sounded like throughout the decade until the intrusion of “disco” Every tracks drips with soul, no matter it be upbeat or a tortured harmony ballad, top quality, an affirmation of what was possible whern all in the studio ignore outside commercial influences. We’ve picked four tracks but we could easily have sound-filed all 8 delicious tracks. A sample of two dance tunes & two sweet soul ballads - so listen to till I’ve got this feelin’ of love welcome to all this love again don’t worry about the jones you and me and imagine this album at your fingertips in the record den… Sorry, this item has already been won! Butlers With Frankie Beverly Because Of My Heart C/w I Want To Feel I'm Wanted It was always gonna be pretty hard to follow the euphoria of selling the Larry Clinton issue this week. But we think Frankie Beverly’s different take of his Fairmount 1014 trophy on the impossible to acquire Washington D.C. ROUSER label, is the perfect sequel. Take a listen these two raw-cut versions that were abandoned by Fairmount to emerge some 150 miles south in Washington, D.C. and the legend was born. The simple piano intro is the Green-Light for the dance-floor dash, driven by an insane saxophonist, who supports Frankie’s leathery vocal style throughout. A lush harmony chorus from The Butlers, then one of the ultimate sax breaks, horns, shrill girls…well this recording just has THE LOT! THIS IS MATCHLESS NORTHERN SOUL. So flip it over and you’ll be treated to a finger-popping groove that is every note as good, in fact some would say better than the usual preferred DJ side. I could run the full spectrum of superlatives, whilst reviewing these two killers but I think the soundfile will do all the talking required. So to the label - less that 5 known copies known? may not be an exaggeration of it’s rarity! This 45s offers Northern Soul collecting, not only at it’s most challenging, but most arousing too…spine-tingling stuff. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 3,063.00 Effie Smith Dial That Telephone Part 1 & 2 A PERFECT copy. As you will already know this example is one of the really scarce #’s in the series, this copy was most probably unplayed before the soundfile was lifted, the spindle hole was virgin, both labels are like new, as is the vinyl both sides. Sue searchers, you will not find a finer copy of this Los Angeles Black novelty recording. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 110.00 Court Davis Try To Think (what You're Doing) C/w The World Keeps Spinning Herbie Williams - The Lover Who Loves You Not! Richard Searling’s Wigan Casino Monster, the one that had the punters ripping their hair out with frustration of not knowing who it really was. That bank of strings would reverberate around the cathedral of Northern Soul; the lone piano break signaled arms held aloft, as the sea of dancers would dreamlike spin and shuffle to down-beat NS that Wigan Casino had not witnessed before… such was Richard Searling’s ear-for-a-tune. Today this legendary 45 still has the same effect.. but is rarely heard - sadly oldies venues are virtually devoid of real top-quality NS oldies - predictably replaced by the tried-tested-terminal-tunes. Hopefully soon oldies DJ aspire do whole sets of the stand-out tunes of yesteryear that refresh both the memory & the soul Wigan Casino - this spin was surely one of the greatest spins ever! NOTE: of all the few copies we have had though our hands over the decades were pressed in “contaminated” vinyl that gives varying levels of pimpling. Some resemble a bad case of acne, a few you can hardly notice the blemishes at all - this copy is THE BEST playing surface I’ve witnessed, check out the flawless soundfile & two immaculate labels. Also we’ve sound-clipped the flipside to showcase the 2 record only artist’s vocal power. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,914.00 George Freeman Down And Out The RARE “Gold” text 1962 press as opposed to the not so rare 1963 Silver Text press. BEAT BALLAD HEAVEN The New York Big City Sound served stone-cold with George’s convincing vocal descending into despair on a full orchestral arrangement. Master arranger Perry Botkin uses all his movie score potential as he constructs layer upon layer of sound. Starting with a few plucks of the violin, lazy castanets drift aside as George’s bellowing vocal takes over, then Perry mounts an a front off timely horns as the session transforms into an unstoppable force. As 49th Street in the Manhattan generates another Brill Building masterpiece. George went on to record a few other great soul tunes, and Botkin’s talents took him on to Movie & TV scores that includes Mork & Mindy, Happy Days and films that Jack Nicholson stared in…. The roads of life … PS this Gold Text beauty is utterly pristine! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 243.00

Larry Williams & Johnny Watson A Quitter Never Wins Classic Northern Soul! But it wasn’t in 1967 when EMI continued to release selected OKEH releases through their Columbia label, it was just a B-side. To try and catch the attention of the burgeoning countrywide Soul following EMI used the moniker “SOUL SUPPLY” on Columbia, Liberty labels or “Discotheque Series ..” on Capitol. The A-side was a forgettable Memphis inspired dirge that didn’t ignite the body to move. But it didn’t take long for the 60s NS pioneers to uncover the upbeat dance flipside. Smack! Bang! Wallop! the Mighty Duo from Los Angeles just give it up loud & powerful; relentless horns support the attitude driven pairing who spit out the message “A Quitter Never Wins” - for it to become something of a Club-anthem for the disenchanted teenagers of the era. Before you today, is an immaculate PROMO trophy-piece dressed in that irresistible EMI green with the alluring big White “A” flaunting itself in front of you… who could ignore such beauty! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00 Vicki Starr Cut Me Loose C/w I Need Your Love Relentless horn driven Funk infused Northern Soul, just perfect for the current dancefloor tastes, in this ever changing scene. Local Mississippi Soul queen Vicki Williams, changed her stage name 3 times whilst switching local labels, in Greenville, Miss. Whether the label bills her sas Vicki Starr, Vicki Styles or Vicki Williams the result is the same; expect to have you attention aroused by this lady’s potent style! A-side instantly moves you, bass guitar intro is peppered with solid horns, before Vicki’s no-mess vocal rides the rhythm - simplistic but totally effective dance groove I can see, in the right hands, taking the Northern Soul scene by a storm. Solid, punchy and perfect dance material, with a late on sax break that tops it all off - awesome! Flip it over for the same instruments & girl group ingredients but a totally different groove as Vicki slows it down and dirty! Wailing girls decorate the background as Vicki bleeds the lyrics into the heavyhearted arrangement. If you like your sounds from the streets, raw to the bone production this rarity is not to be passed by! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 306.00 Mr. Percolator I Can't Get Enough C/w Come Back To Me You will not find a more apt example of extreme talent struggling for recognition. One of three “Perk” Badger 45s released on his co-owned street-level Miami label Wax-Wel. All three give up finely honed Soul performances covering three different genres, Deep Soul, Funk & Northern Soul. Take a listen to a strugglin’ artist that never received the acknowledgment his outstanding work deserved. This his last release for the label, sees Mr. Percolator living up to his name, as his soulfully-harsh gravel vocal instantly permeates your space with pounding foot-to-the-floor Northern Soul. Currently residing in the DJ boxes of Soul Sam & Andy Dyson, with the later often airing it at upfront venues who’s punters receive real rarities with open arms. But that’s only half the story, whilst Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, Arthur Conley etc. were carving out worldwide reputations, Pearstine Badger was matching all the greats, note for note with his own style of D.I.Y. Deep Soul, saturated excruciating anguish & despair. Far too late Mr. Badger is now rightly heralded as one the the world’s greatest examples of “Lost Soul” voices. Listen to this hideously rare 45 and enjoy a man delivers killer rare soul, what ever style he chose to perform. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 614.00
