  5. Pat Powdrill And The Powerdrills Together Forever C/w They Are The Lonely A head-turning gorgeous RED VINYL promo. Barry White’s in-house Downey Records composition is given the Nick Risi treatment sparking off a pumping sister-vocal Northern Soul dancer. This lady consistently injects real-life into all her recordings, in fact everything Pat released is record to check out, whether it be on this icon California label or her recordings for Reprise, Miss Powdrill sure knows how to shake it down. This copy for the “trainspotter” carries extra appeal not just for the beautiful coloured vinyl but also for the authentic DOWNEY RECORD PRODUCTION addressed sticker with telephone numbers included. Provenance could not be more solid. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 62.00 Reflections Like Adam And Eve This weeks contender for the “Black Is Beautiful” trophy is a pristine copy of this Northern Soul anthem. So rarely witnessed as the colourful ABC Paramount STOCK copy and this example is like new! I do vividly remember the first time I heard this New York produced powerhouse dance tune, in The Highland Room Blackpool circa 1973. Whether it was Ian Levine or Colin Curtis that played it, it was one of the “Stand-out” sounds of the evening, along with Linda Jones - Just Can’t Live My Life and Dave Love’s Colalined Baby - those 3 stuck with me all the way home and long into decades to come. This tune is obviously more associated with Wigan Casino a perfectly fashioned frantic proper-style Northern Soul that was the touch-paper for acrobatics on the floor. 40n years on, today, the pioneers of dance will be more excited by that most-alluring sleeve, label scan and the perfect condition that lies beneath. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 123.00 Gift Of Dreams Better Day C/w Speak Your Mind rare 12” PROMO in glorious clean condition. Justin’s USA original issue on the “Flippin’” label is consider a Northern Soul R&B trophy, on this ridiculously elusive UK press it is serious British collectors piece, we all missed back in those formative years. Condition of vinyl only reveals a couple of light, insignificant surface blemishes. Both labels are clean and flaw free. A Wigan Casino classic spin that amazingly escaped the dubious honor of being bootlegged at the time; with the following decades adding layer after layer to it’s reputation of a tune you can drop the needle on anytime any place and gets heads and feet turning. This tune gives you a drop of the proper stuff. REAL-DEAL-NORTHERN SOUL that stomps from start to finish a wave of male vocal group backing, relentless driving bassline rhythm attacked by a searing Soul-Sister vocal…and a instrumental break to die-for. 9. Billy Young The Sloopy This records takes me back to those mystical days when reading Blues & Soul on a Friday, would help decide where you spent the weekend; as the small town gatherings of Soul-Boys & Girls would discuss which club it was going to be for the Friday & Saturday nights. Blackpool Mecca, Va Va’s, Leeds Central or The Catacombs. “The Cats” often got the vote with their thought provoking adverts in B&S listing the likes of Johnny Sayles, Richard Temple, Cigarette Ashes and THE SLOOPY! Mostly mysterious names, that were the clubs new discoveries, we were yet to hear. Mattress in the back of the transit Van and off on our weekend soul adventure we’d go. Before you today is one “The Cats” signature tunes, that enticed 100s to flock to Wolverampton from every corner of England. So why an auction item, firstly it’s great memories for me. Gary’s choice selections for the turntable guaranteed an electric atmosphere, i have good memories of him at work, but it seems like forever since our last copy of this rarity was listed; our data reveals only 3 in the last 15 years and this latest copy is in just utterly flawless condition. Frenetic Northern Soul with an insane instrumental break to die for.Listening again we think this tune is just begging for reactivation… Unless Gary Spencer would like to join the DJ gang again and belt out some seldom-heard stompers like he used to.. How refreshing would that be? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 345.00

Supported by Heavenly girls cooing and answering with chorus at every opportunity plus the extra added burst of male vocal with the shout “Nobody” taking the production by surprise, then an instrumental break lifts this street-level session into greatness. I must say I’m ashamed not to have taken the time to listen more intently, not just to the sublime lead side but also to the flip. That pleads to be included in a “Soul Essence” afternoon set. As this overlooked jewel is just saturated in emotion, but sitting comfortably somewhere between Deep Soul & NS Crossover. Two sides of pure distilled sorrow from the soulfully fertile streets Plainsfield, New Jersey. Sorry, this item has already been won! A fine, fine version and damn hard-to-find. This copy is totally flawless in every way.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 86.00 Art Freeman Slipping Around C/w Can't Get You Out Of My Mind an immaculate 1966 British release of this timeless Northern Soul classic. We all have regrets not buying records, we should have done. Circa 1970 a lad called “CETI” dropped his whole 45 collection onto a stall at Melton Mowbray Sunday Market. Every disc adorned with his tiny white sticker with “CETI” typed onto it. Me and my record-soul-mate Peter Kendall dived in, with all the minuscule knowledge we could muster and scored like pigs in an orchard, spending every penny we had… Or so we thought, what we left behind ended up on Grantham market on the Saturday & Leicester market on the Tuesday. Well how was two country soul-boy know-it-all’s be expected to have heard of Rufus Lumley, Art Freeman, Vala Regan, etc. etc. etc. This list of our rejects still hurts today, as the more knowledgeable Dave Owen of Grantham thought he’d died and gone to heaven when the remains of the hoard appeared on his market.. This 45 haunts me still today..as it is such a thumping great slab of Northern Soul that me and Peter would have squabbled over in his front room after we’d scattered out our latest acquisitions over his carpet… I would like to say in our defense we weren’t complete idiots because we captured every Major Lance 45 on Columbia, all the Soul on UK London, Chess, Tamla Motown etc. ….a little knowledge is dangerous as they say. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 211.00 Troy Dodds Try My Love C/w The Real Thing Aweome tune, awesome label, awesome condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! Here is a sadly underachieving, but highly gifted soul man you will be wanting to hear more of. Just 4 singles can be attributed to this Alabama artist, this being his only Northern Soul offering, a punchy horn-charged dancer with a hammond driving the rhythm… the pleading voice steers a steady course, as the horns raise the roof… An on-your-knees performance form Steven Dickerson, expressive and dripping in soulful despair. Jerry Powell who wrote, arranged & produced both sides borrows some arrangement characteristics from Stax or Fame studios, and deliver big!. Flipside has long been regarded as a Deep soul grail. As the sound of Mobile takes to the air, with a beseeching ballad of zenithal proportions. A record that will leave you wondering why life’s opportunities for wider recognition are mysteriously denied to obvious talents…but that’s the sad paradox of searching for “Rare Soul” Sorry, this item has already been won! 15. Jimmy Hudson & The Carnations What's That C/w He Don't Love You Especially for DJ’s and collectors seeking something exceptionally rare - you are now viewing a seriously obscure Chicago Northern Soul 45 busting with potential. Top side written by Jimmy Hudson himself - the man responsible for the equally rare Conquistadors on the same label This is only the second time we have ever had this record for sale. It’s own-rarity over the decades has hindered any chance of a wider audience, for this upbeat vocal group NS shaker. A rhythmic drum intro and haunting horns collide with Jimmy’s high-pitched vocal enhanced by a persistent girl-group chorus. But it’s the droning saxophone pumping out all manner of notes in the background that really gives it that irresistible appeal. Flip it over for an equally compelling Sax driven session. Moody, dirty grinding groove with the sax-man again steadily pumping out the purring dance arrangement. It’s a mid-paced stroller of the highest calbre as Mr. Hudson gets steadily more commanding as he tries convincing his girl “He Don’t Love You (Like I Do). This is a 45 for those of you who get a thrill out of owning and DJing with a record that very few other people on the planet have ever seen, let alone own! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 224.00 Icemen It's Time You Knew C/w It's Gonna Take A Lot (to Bring Me Back Baby) Creeping right back into vogue, as it it ever went away.. this league of quality never does. Currently becoming, yet again one of the most-wanted least seen vocal-group Northern Soul rarities of the moment. Moody and down right dirty horn-crammed production, with attitude that creeps under your skin, as the slow drag style screams play me in that 2am Niter atmosphere, and see the floor swell. I just adore this vocal-group style of ignoring every commercial aspect of the era, and opting instead to deliver the studio mood on that day. Preposterously good… and extremely sought-after, not only for Northern Soul but also for the vocal-group fans who go for the silky smooth down-beat flipside! Resist if you can.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 539.00 Little Kenneth & The Rhythmakers You Can Go On Home Kenny Janise could not have been that little, check out this rampart Texas R&B romp - a Tex-Mex motivated brass runaway truck of a tune, with the growling Kenneth fronting the relentless production. Brass burdened arrangement given a primitive echo chamber effect, but brandishing some of the effective instrumental breaks you could ever desire to load the dancefloor with. POTENT STUFF backed with a funeral march example of Texas Deep Soul again benefiting by those blaring horns. NOTE this elusive rarity invariably witnessed with a water damaged label - as you can see both sides this copy is PERFECT in every way, with vinyl to match. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 223.00 R' N B Scene August 1964 No. 2 R’ N B Scene no. 2 in this extremely rare series from Roger Eagle the leading all night club DJ and pioneer of the British R&B scene. 16. Heem The Music Monsters Wake Up People C/w Piece Of The Rock Seldom seen, highly sought rebellious Philadelphia Street-FUNK. A floor-destroying D.I.Y. production, this tiny indie label gives up a deceptive intro - as the slow rap and yawn, suddenly explodes into a manic dance production with whirling keyboard work, thumping along at frantic pace - defiant lead vocal is supported by a vocal chorus and an incessant guitar, some inventive mid-70s “special effects” all add the boiling over atmosphere. Flip over, and the group see no need to change course from this urban statement of discontent, the pace drops a notch but the horns and vocal presence ratchets up, yet again for another potent but manageable floor-shaker, Two killer sides both dead-right for today’s brand of Northern Soul funk that seems to be reaching pandemic proportions. RARE in the extreme! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 732.00 Artistics Girl I Need You C/w I'm Glad I Met You Here is living proof, there is no need for any DJ to play borderline/inferior Northern Soul recordings when tunes like this lay dormant! This 1967 Chicago coupling, offers two killer sides written by lead vocalist Tommy Green (aided by Othie Wright,& Danny Reed) TG glides through both recordings with consummate ease, driven by an inspiring Sonny Sanders arrangement, jelled together by the genius of Carl Davis, all directed by Gerald Sims. Some gathering in the studio that was! So it’s unsurprising this 45 offers two very special sides indeed, so neglected I immediately added a USA Brunswick copy to my DJ box.. But before you today is no Brunswick release, before you is the ultimate way to own this double-delight - a neat and tidy - seriously elusive 1967 UK Coral DEMO! Sound and vision doesn’t come any more impressive than this. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 146.00 Ellen & The Shandells Gypsy C/w Try A Little Tenderness AUDACIOUS NORTHERN SOUL, riddled with angst and defiance. A hammond charged psyche/soul dancer, pure attitude-driven all-niter classic, bringing back memories of full dancefloors and wind-swept winter nights at Cleethorpes Pier; when sounds like this, made you forget the cold and the North Sea waves assaulting the stanchions below your feet. FABULOUS TUNE! ..and this is the 1970 seldom-seen FIRST PRESS of the “Dry Well” - Lauren release, infinitely rarer and so much more desirable.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 593.00 Clara Wood You're After My Guy C/w Old And Grey BLACK stock copy addicts we think this 1965 Northern Soul double helping is one you very rarely see as a black label release. Two killer sides ! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 188.00
  17. thanks for replys, not worth much then although it's a bit on the rare side.
  18. hi, could anyone give me some info on this one, i've had it for about 9 years, it was the only way i could afford justin jones, i was told when i bought it it was a very limited issue ( 50 to 100 ) on the 10th allnighter anniversary of a club in hamburg, this would make it quite a rare one to have. joe. 19. Curtis Liggins Indications What It Is C/w Funky Monkey Right On Elusive Kansas City vocal-group harmony Northern Soul backed with a crazed hunk-of-FUNK! Yes this rarities delivers the goods two times over, underlining the talent of Curtis Liggins as he writes and produces both! Topside is a silky smooth n’soulful “Esquires” style, perhaps Chicago inspired gathering of vocals driven by an urgent guitar rhythm. The vocal harmony is so very strong you forget there are no horns in the production, as it races along never needing any extra accoutrements…those vocals really are that good! My kinda Northern Soul - that’s “What It Is” Flip it over and we’re off down that Funky road again - with a wild, outrageous romp into 60s Kansas Soul that this time, has a sound all of it’s own. A sound to unleash on a full dancefloor, at full volume.. and witness the possibility of minor mayhem.. Two great sides and a record that has again disappeared into the exile of great collections and DJ boxes. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 215.00
  20. Charisma Band Ain't Nothing Like Your Love Top drawer pre-disco 1975 vocal-group Northern Soul. This sound underlines what it was possible to create before the tidal-wave of dance fashion called “disco” swamped the club scene of America. With strong influences from “Main Ingredient” members and the prolific arranger Bert “Super Hits” DeCoteaux, this session thankfully ignores all the crass influences of “disco” to convey 70s soulful dance at it’s best! Expressive sister lead vocal cradled by a fusion of lush strings and sophisticated horns and inspirational guttural male vocals purring away in the background.. No other word describes this recording better than AWESOME! Luther Simmons, Cuba Gooding & Bert DeCoteaux must take huge credit for that, crafting pure-soul on the very cusp of a Soulless dance revolution! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 231.00 Degree Of Freedom Please Tell Me Why C/w Vegetable Soup Fine, fine sweet soul from Richmond, Virginia back with a Hunk-Of-Funk. 1976 delight with a rap intro - soft gentle horns, occasional brush of the cymbal then a chilly falsetto steps up and signals sweet-soul perfection is about to take place. Delicate, precise horns make sure they only enhance and not upstage a tapestry of highly-honed harmony. Interchanging leads all offer seamless purity with the brass arrangement adding structure, to what is one of the hardest to find sweet soul records on Planet Earth. Flip it over Mario Smith flexes his versatility with a FUNK trip of considerable pace and power! Two great sides one VERY ELUSIVE disc, a few light surface marks but as you can hear it plays clear, loud & true. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 211.00 Porgy & The Monachs My Heart Cries For You C/w Think Twice Before You Walk Away This weeks flawless Northern Soul classic listing is the timeless Wigan Casino favourite in it’s most admired clothes, BLACK stock copy complete with original release jacket. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 182.00 Ann Sexton & The Masters Of Soul You've Been Gone Too Long C/w You're Letting Me Down First label for this revered Northern Soul Classic! Back in the day when the Blackpool Mecca led the way with what was hip and what wasn’t; this style of sound was perfect for Ian Levine & Colin Curtis to illuminate their flawless forward-thinking. Along with James Fountain this southern style production was just perfect for the changing dance styles and mood of Northern Soul, which near 40 years on are still considered NS anthems. Here is another timeless testament to those two DJ’s who quite frankly were the trailblazers of the 70s. Listen and drool..as Ann seduces you with that sultry vocal. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 301.00
  21. Tony Daniels I Won't Cry Prodigious Detroit Northern Soul from the desk of Donald “Cool Jerk” Storball a man who had the influence to entice Motown’s “Funk Brothers” into sometimes moonlighting on his tracks. Here’s another “Storball” session soaked in the Motor City sound; essentially a grassroots vocal group recording credited to a single artist. As a full male vocal harmony backs Tony Daniels despairing wailing’s through the full length of this masterful Northern Soul dancer. Saturated in pure raw soul, woven into a rich arrangement - this is Detroit Northern Soul straight off the streets. Condition is absolutely astonishingly flawless! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 612.00 Oscar Toney Jr. Ain't That True Love C/w For Your Precious Love June 1967 FIRST British press DEMO. Yes this Twisted Wheel classic, just like Darrell Banks on Stateside, came out more than once on the same Stateside 2033 to keep up with demand created by All Nite Club spins, which of course turned this Memphis flipside into a Northern Soul classic. Oscar Toney’s first release for the doughty Papa Don Schroeder who was aided by some of the best musicians Memphis could provide. Tommy Cogbill on Bass Guitar driving the rhythm, Gene Chrisman - Drums , Bobby Emmons - keyboards and Bill Black Combo’s Reggie Young on his renown guitar. What a gathering of talent who from the first note to the last, belt out a tumultuous 60s dance performance. You may be surprised that at the time, this mighty production lay hidden on a flipside - but once you hear Oscar’s, Papa Don guided interpretation of Jerry Butler’s all time great - you can fully understand it coming in second place. TWO awesome sides in their most desirable form, and in the condition you British neurotics just love to hug. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 94.00 New Horizon I Get That Feeling C/w Sherry (share With Me) RARE 1978 New Jersey funk infused soulful dance backed with sublime sweet soul. Top side immediately catches your ear with it’s in-your-face horns prompting a gnarling vocal backed by a chanting group chorus. This is strong street-level dance that has managed to stay off the Rare-Soul radar since 1978. Ridiculously rare and sodden with Monster status potential in the right hands. Flip it over and harmony vocal-group fans are in for a super-treat. As sweet as soul ever gets, as the icy falsetto take you on a journey deep into permafrost! Silky harmony slips, slides & glides around in the background then the falsetto hits wineglass shattering heights.. Best of it’s genre I’ve heard in an age..simply sumptuous soul.. But watch the topside go, if the likes of Soul Sam etc. secure it… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 411.00 Various Artists 1983 British Ric-tic Revue Tour Program The legendary 1983 UK tour by the Ric Tic Revue, promoted by Chris King & Lilian Kyle . 22. Ty Karim You Just Don't Know C/w All In Vain The Queen of West Coast rare-soul, most-wanted 45! A lady who’s vocal prowess has seduced more rare-soul collectors into digging deep into their pockets than any other. As to own everything this Soul Queen has ever pressed to vinyl, is and always will be one of the top-quests for serious collectors, as her far to few release, are all rare momentous recordings. To quote DJ Harboro Horace’s notes from the recently release 12 track album tribute “Ty’s Voice can be as tough as teak or as seductive as an A-List Hollywood heartthrob” This offering in MINT condition, sits at the very pinnacle of her all her rare work. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,102.00 Voomins March Of The Voomins C/w If You Don't Come Back Capturing the true mood of the British MODS of 1964 - presumably this outrageously effective instrumental was a shot across the bows of The Executives and Joe Loss’s awfully wide of the mark “March Of The Mods”; As The Voomins hit dead-center capturing the very essence of early cult movement of MOD! With the flipside showing off a R&B influenced lead singer who with wishes to be “black” but his unconvincing snarling only underlines the groundswell of appreciation for black music driving the MOD club scene forward. This 1964 British release is in stunning near Mint - condition and still living in it’s birth sleeve of near 50 years, and saturated in the 1964 mood of MOD lift-off! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 84.00 I - 20 Connection Dreamin' RARE late 70s Georgia soulful dance from the desk of Calvin Arnold. Calvin was most probably inspired by the best Philadelphia production as the fuses jazz with strong orchestra strings enhancing the uplifting rhythm. Very like Billy Paul’s work in style and deliver as the arrangement twists and jerks around delivering a powerful dance production. PERFECT for today’s rare-soul dance scene - classy, precise and VERY RARE! this elusive disc has a few light surface marks but as you hear throughout te compelling 3 minutes it plays without any distractions! LOVE IT! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 271.00 Nicky C & The Chateaux Those Good Times C./w Try Some Soul RARE! Uplifting horn-driven vocal-group Northern Soul from Baltimore. This has to be not only the most-elusive but also most-exhilarating tune on the label. One of those 3 minutes that just leave feeling, so very much better for hearing it. Having said that you just don’t hear it enough, rarity has stunted it’s growth, thus stifling dance-floor awareness. Imagine something as instant as this hitting the decks full volume; of say Kings Hall, Stoke or Prestatyn - we think it would intensify the atmosphere by a notch or two. A real elusive sleeper with glaring potential for a much-bigger ticket than the perceived value. Truly fabulous, under-played proper-style Northern Soul in pristine condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 311.00

  24. Exits Another Sundown In Watts C/w I'm So Glad A meeting of the studio-soul-greats of Los Angeles craft what is one of the finest examples of vocal-group Northern Soul cross-over it is possible to hear. Jimmy Conwell, Sir Hank Graham, Godoy Colbert purr their way through a Gene Page & Arthur Wright arrangement with the finishing touches brushed up by prolific producer Sir Hank Graham. Eye-poppin’ condition an immaculate copy - tiny pressing dimple flaw on the first turn into the deadwax otherwise this would have achieved the MINT unplayed grading! As I don’t think it had ever met a stylus before we made acquaintance. You will not find a better copy… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 610.00 Fantastic Four I Love You Madly Perhaps the hardest of all the 600 series Green & White Demo’s to track down. One of the first Ric Tic releases Motown decided to promote through their own labels. 1967 recording from the desk of D-Town’s Mike Hanks assisted by long-term lyricist partner William Garrett. Eventually finding it’s way to a British release and The Fantastic Four first UK release. It never sold a bean and the promo was only half-heartedly promoted. Little wonder it fell through the cracks at EMI with hardly a whimper and certainly no Radio exposure to speak of. The rarest 600 promo to secure? we think so, as it’s our very first PROMO copy in over 14 years of documenting all purchases and sales.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 74.00
  25. Sandy Williams Pushing A Good Thing Too Far The original and dare we suggest superior version of the Barbara Lewis Atlantic classic. Bob Crewe’s habit of recording 1 or 2 release girls with fabulous voices continues with Sandy Williams; who just like Vala Regan, Laine Hill, Jessica James etc. there is very little known about the artist except Bob Crewe & Charlie Calello’s selective hearing again chooses a bewitching vocal as the vehicle for their infectious dance production. A four way project with Bob Crewe, Charlie Calello & the equally talent duo of Sandy Linzer & Denny Randell (Steinways fame) crafting yet another Northern Soul delight. Our history reveals this occasional listing for us sells with days of being made available, something of a bubbling back-burner cult item, carrying all the qualities to ignite an explosion in demand and value with DJ’s exposure. This copy in pristine! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 122.00 Astors Stax In House 8" By 10" Glossy Promo Photo Head-turning black and white group 8” by 10” of Stax promo glossy picture. THE ASTORS: Curtis Johnson,Sam Byrnes Jones, Richard Harris & Eliehue Stanback the darlings of the early 60s British All Nite R&B Club scene with their timeless Northern Soul favourite “CANDY their only single, to be issued in the UK”. Inexplicably STAX never favoured the “vocal-group” sound and only released 4 singles by this slick team. But on checking the 4 singles, you discover all the flipsides are every note as good as the “A’s”. Fully 8 recordings by these guys, and all of them absolutely superb offerings to our scene. As is this rare black & white pose of this much-loved but short lived gathering. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 25.00 Megatons Shimmy Shimmy Walk Part 1 & 2 A perfect copy! of the elusive MOD shaker! a few months from being 50 years old and not a single blemish anywher, altough the coveted original company sleeve has as expect a light wrinkle or two. The winning bid was £ 52.00 Herbert Hunter I Was Born To Love You C/w Push Away From The Table One of the Ultimate Northern Soul White DEMO’s to own. Ever since the legendary Cleethorpes Pier DJ “Poke” debuted this tune in his DJ set circa ‘75 it’s been a precious favourite of mine and most-everybody else’s to. One of those records it’s impossible to tire of. The knockout booming lead vocal weighing in just an ounce heavier than those persistent runaway juggernaut horns. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL in it’s most desirable form by far! also we are proud to announce this example is in utterly flawless conditions - Mint - vinyl and two (as you can see) utterly Mint labels Sorry, this item has already been won!
