  1. HI, I'VE GOT A SPARE EX / M- W-DEMO YOU CAN HAVE, MESSAGE ME AN OFFER IF YOU LIKE. JOE.
  2. Corey Blake How Can I Go On Without You C/w Your Love Is Like A Boomerang Muscle Shoals..meets Chicago This stone-cold winner is ONLY available as the not even fleetingly available STOCK copy. Take a taste of a composition from the genius-pen of Phillip Mitchell skillfully arranged by Tom Tom Washington, molded together by Floyd Smith and Archie Russell to create Northern Soul Crossover Heaven! Cicero Blake sways and swaggers his way through this deliciously silky production with consummate ease as a bank of strings and neatly pitched wah-wah guitar decorate the arrangement. Flawless Soul music that weaves it’s way into your heart - if that wasn’t enough the original lead side is a Sam Dees composition that if you into the “Island Music” styled ballad you know the quality of this most soulful groove. Two fabulous sides - but if you want TWO sides you have to snare this the very shy STOCK copy. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 555.00 Ballads Butterfly C/w Confessing The Feeling Catch this on the up… 1975 Oakland funk infused dancer, backed up with a precisely constructed harmony stroller of the quality you’d expect from this gifted gathering. Topside is a reworking of Leon Ware’s & Susaye Green’s composition “I WISH I KNEW” released by the Ballads on Venture 6 years earlier. This time the production takes a “Whitfield” styled approach with swirling strings adorned with a dusting of Funk! No wonder this has now attracted the attention of several upfront DJ’s in recent times.. the value can go only one way.. Flipside; the Ballads take Isaac Bolden’s New Orleans Deep Soul masterpiece and stamp their own brand of quality on it, with a rap intro then a silky interpretation develops in an exquisite journey into Sweet Soul. Point on interest is the “Butterfli” release on Balja was pressed the SAME DAY at Monarch Recording as was this Music City offering. The BALJA press is a different mix and in my humble opinion weaker. Stick with the Ray Dobard’s choice to release on this legendary label… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 60.00 Donnie Elbert Along Came Pride C/w Get Ready Funny how we forget things that have sat under our noses for a lifetime, it was until the most-respected of collectors Mr. David Ferguson reminded me just how good this British production was. Donnie visiting Britain circa 1967 teams up with the prolific Soul-Minded Keith Mansfield to craft a real stunner on the back of a worthy but not superior version of The Temptations classic “Get Ready”. CBS led with “Get Ready” that received some alternative spins on the scene over the years. But wait til you hear the flip! Horns boom the intro then Donnie abandoning his falsetto “Piece Of Leather” style by adding a little depth to his vocal-delivery, perfectly injecting Soul into the impressive orchestra backing…..But for me the real highlight is those screeching ladies hitting the Northern Soul G-spot as flit in and out this very-American n’totally dramatic production. NOT issued in the USA and the condition is glorious throughout.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 109.00 Twisted Wheel Mailshot 21st. March 1969 Original Twisted Wheel Mail Out TWO ORIGINAL TWISTED WHEEL FLYERS Original and ready for framing complete with it’s original enveloped date franked at 21st. March 1969. It’s not often in fact it’s only happened twice in the last 12 months that an auction win has not been paid for. This offering was won over 12 months ago. Hey oh, it gives someone else to adorn there walls with what is a unique offering. How many flyers can still exist in perfect condition, with the original envelope - absolutely none is my guess. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 25.00 Monorays Love C/w You're No Good This 45 had a mild flirt with Northern Soul during the previous century - whipping up quite a bit of interest and demand, then all fell quiet as like so many outstanding tunes they belong to the less active DJ’s or just didn’t reach the sets of the more influential Jock’s. Anyhow it’s obvious monster potential never materialized. Whatever the cause, today I’m hearing a tune that is far superior to many of today’s Big-Ticket spins, and it still carries kudos of real-elusivity. Take time to refresh your ears with a neglected 1965 beauty from New York, that in the right hands will again cause a long overdue dancefloor appreciation. Flute intro gives way to a sublime harmony vocal dancer, that weaves a gorgeous tapestry of soul, blending both strong male and shrill girl backing vocals, riding a persistent dance beat heighten by a strong instrumental break, more flutes are all thrown into another impressive Robert Banks arrangement. Let’s get the right tunes on those decks.. this leaves some of the NS quality control escapees way back in the shade.. Condition, btw is blinding! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 370.00
  3. James Brown I Got You (i Feel Good) C/w I Can't Help It (i Just Do-do-do) An iconic Soul Recording that has featured for decades in Soul Clubs, TV Adverts, Film soundtracks and Bars around the world. It after all Soul-Music’s busy man’s signature tune and an eternal spirit-lifter. But to see this most-famous of his recordings as a 1966 British WHITE DEMO is immaculate condition is a rare-thing indeed and an absentee from even the most complete of British Soul collections. To refresh yourself with this ageless classic - click and witness the Godfather at his authoritative best..Spy the sumptuous label scan, we think if you got it - you’d “Feel Good” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 109.00 Brenda Holloway When I'm Gone + 3 Men are just suckers for beautiful women, ladies who can really sing, works of art and stand-out music. This listing offers all and much more! Record collectors eye-candy does not come any more alluring than Brenda Holloway in sultry pose. Motown non-45 Northern Soul dance tracks like the fabulous “A Favor For A Girl” do not get easily better! Listen to the sound file provided…a dancefloor surefire winner fa’sure. Check out this tempter carefully. Front Cover is flawless Back cover has light writing on it but retains the coveted re-order tag (so often missing from all 60s French EP’s) vinyl has light surface marks but as you can hear it plays clean & true. Labels: A-side label has a light signature on it that starts with a HO and ends in a Y. ??? B-side label is Mint - For me this is a framer - it is Motown-Art at it’s most imperative. But then again for the Motown/Northern DJ, that non-45 track is a killer - ain’t it! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 159.00 Bobby Mac Shy Guy C/w How Was Your Weekend Rare 1964 ORIGINAL press in astonishing condition. Hollywood based Vended Records was a stepping stone for the likes of Jimmy Gresham, Jimmy Conwell , Len Johnson etc to spring from before their later exploits into crafting stand-out Northern Soul. This collaboration with Bobby with Bobby Mac gives up two delicious sides. Top side is a silky-smooth, ahead of it’s time, mid-pace dancer that has been highly prized for decades but suffering a little from it’s own rarity as not many DJ’s other than Ian Clark ever got behind it, perhaps never owned it. In the USA it’s the group harmony supported ballad that is the trophy, so much so it was bootlegged in the 90s. Be assured this is the rarely witness 1964 original in impossible condition, only light sleeve contact blemished on the vinyl and two PERFECT labels.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 334.00 Fidels I'm Giving You Notice Baby C/w Take Away This Lonliness Whilst we’re talking about tunes that should have been monsters but for some inexplicable reason missed the Northern Soul boat. Get your ears around this 1966 Los Angeles underestimated BEAST of a tune. Where shall we start.. so many good things going on it’s difficult to know where to begin it has everything, yes everything required to detonate the Northern Soul crowd! Perfectly paced brass-crammed production offers up right from the beginning a strident girl-group chorus; a wonderful bass male vocal drones away poking through the wealth of leading vocals. Relentless are the blaring horns, and typically the girls refuse to go away, instrumentals breaks - the only thing missing with this 45 is availablity…for as long as I can remember this 45 has always been seldom-seen. Today it cries out for a DJ with a set of balls to play this right in the middle of an oldies set - I think nobody would leave the floor, they’ll just think it’s some Wigan Casino monster they haven’t heard lately. “Get Off your “soap-box” Manship let the tune do the talkin’ …” Like those girl - I ain’t going away till I’ve said the flipside is a cool cut too.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 355.00 Chico Lamarr What Do You Think I Am C/w How About You The genius of Leonard Jewel Smith! Presented here on one of his very rarest associated 45’s giving up not one but TWO formidable Northern Soul beauties, both of which have recently featured in a couple of NS DJ aristocracy sets I’ve had te pleasure listening to. My choice of topside may bot be yours as both are equally distinctive. “What Do you Think I Am” is a mellow mid-tempo exuding elegance and precision on every note. subtle piano tinkles away in the background supporting a gently caressed saxophone and purrs horns to compliment what is a finely tuned vocal. (Allegedly Leonard Jewel himself) that a Sax Solo of pure delight. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL at it’s slickest, Noting not a girl backing vocal anywhere in the arrangement underling just how good the backing track is - frankly girl intrusion is not required. Flip it over and the production lifts into a feelgood experience with a full male vocal group chorus cradling the velvety “Chico” vocal. Again this is just PERFECT NORTHERN SOUL .. between them, Leonard Jewel Smith & the legendary Arthur Monday craft exacting Northern Soul. Leonard was so pleased with his work, he went on of course to use both backing tracks on other recordings. BUT this is the one to own it - if you can get lucky enough as the condition of this offering is PERFECT. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 913.00
  4. The Nicky Newarkers Woman A 1976 New York flipside that rose you to become a 70s Rare-Soul dance-monster across the UK & Europe. Little surprise really as the two driving forces behind this session are no strangers to the soulful-Dance sound. Jerry Ross has a long list of 60s dance production to his credit - whilst the main contributor Jesus Alvarez a year early crafted the under-rated bu magnificent “Please Don’t Go” on Vibration Records. Before you today is an utterly impeccable PROMO copy of the type of dance tune that it is possible to make when talent people take to the studio. Ignoring all temptations to bedeck the session with any of the crass disco effects that polluted great soul records of the mid-70s. This is pure uplifting, dancefloor igniting 70s rare-dance, who’s reputation has held firm for over 3 decades.. You may never encounter a finer copy. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 747.00 Alice Clark You Hit Me (right Where It Hurt Me) The things you do when your young… and the interesting way both your own and friends lives pan out. In 1970 when the “Bradford Market” avalanche of USA 45s caused a feeding frenzy, with it’s arm fulls of Verve, MGM 45s and a smattering of records in the quality of The Salvadors etc. it changed the face of Northern Soul over night as The Shalimars, Superiors, The Tymes etc. etc. became “Torch” monsters. Luckily my close friend Peter Kendall was currently at Leeds University, so off to Bradford he went to have his share of the vinyl-free-for-all, when he came home to Melton Mowbray he was armed with two copies of this previously unknown Motown-styled dancer by Alice Clark. Peter wanted a faded Levi Jacket and I desperately wanted Alice.. but I didn’t have a threadbare Levi but I knew a man who did.. My Brother had one, so as he snoozed I sneaked and “borrowed” his jacket - and the deal was done!! “Seen my Levi Jacket Bro?” “Nope..are sure you haven’t left it in the Pub” My Brother had no comprehension of a 17 year old’s vinyl-lust or the lengths a youngster would go for ownership - which I soon found out when I received a thick ear… unfortunately Peter walked in the pub wearing his purloined denim… Ouch ..that was a lesson learned… Peter, went on to head-up MARS-AUSTRALIA ….me, I’m still hanging around Pub coat-pegs in Pork Pie land! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 269.00 Little Hite & Soul Rockers A While Ago C/w Fine Strap yourself in - buckle up! Richard Hite and his Soul Rockers are about to take you on a R&B Roller-Coaster to dancefloor mayhem. Relentless, snarling, convincing Chicago Blues with a driving arrangement. It’ll creep under your skin, dig in it’s claws and never let you go. A R&B Beast of a tune.. Impossibly clean condition & rare in the extreme! needs securing ASAP before some other “Outside The Box” Jock does.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00 Marie Knight That's No Way To Treat A Girl C/w Say It Again This week’s “Black Is Beautiful” candidate is a Wigan Casino & Cleethorpes Pier anthem that became something of Northern Soul Girl-Anthem as the lyrics inspired the ladies and simultaneously packed the floors at both these iconic clubs during 1974 to 1976 then succumbing to a horrid red label Los Angeles bootleg. What pleases me about this offering is not only the euphoric recall the stylus gives us, but also the stunning condition of the vinyl and those striking black labels all of which are impeccable. Last but not least is the then overlooked flipside, that today fits the “BEAT BALLAD HEAVEN” tag perfectly, as Valerie Simpson, Nicholas Ashford & Joshie Jo Armstead composition is givenMarie Knight’s usual uncompromising working over. Looks beautiful doesn’t it… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 441.00 Otis Redding Early Otis Redding - 4 Track Ep SUE EP’s - oh so collectable! First side featuring his 1964 Bethlehem 3083 release with The Pinetoppers backing up the great man. Two raucous no holds-barred screamers. The flipside features Otis’s Trans World/Finer Arts label release “She’s Alright” when he headed up the vocals with The Shooters. Final tack is the obscurest track on the EP supported by Little Joe Curtis “Gettin Hip” is one of Otis’s hardest 45’s to find as an original. It’s SUE it’s Otis and it’s irrestible! Check out the compelling front cover, the alluring SUE label and the back cover which unusually is free of writing, tears or stains. Lovely clean example and a fine tribute to who many consider the “voice” of 60s Soul. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 87.00
  5. Devils Workshop Satan's Soul C/w She Waits, She Loves, She Cares Oh yes.. right-on-the-money Rare-club-funk with just enough flow for the Northern Soul appreciation to jump on it..too! From small town Indiana this hunk-of-Funk from the Princess City.. giving up firstly hanging trumpets cloaking the distant group-chants with skilful guitar work pumping out an irresistible rhythm, for those persistent horns to grow and pepper the production; then right on cue the hammond kicks in.. and the whole thing jells into a fluid rare-funk dance experience - just perfect for today’s Northern Soul upfront crowd. …oooh it’s a “Devil” of a tune! Flip it over for a sublime Indian group ballad… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 189.00 Limme Saturday Nights The Night C/w Party Extremely elusive British 70s dancer evolving from the LImmie & The Family Cookin’ split-up in 1976 to join a label that gave us The Foundations “Change My Life” biggie, one release later this London indie label released this British only dancer which is much-rarer than it’s predecessor. This date stamped PROMO comes complete with it’s mail-shot only 4” by 6” black & white Group Photo. The winning bid was £ 20.00
  6. Mary Wells What's Easy For Two Is So Hard For One C/w You Lost The Sweetest Boy To my knowledge this is the first example of a British Record company altering it’s release choice to take advantage of the British Soul-Club generated demand. First promo’d and released with “You Lost The Sweetest Boy” as the Red “A” side. But the pioneering Soul-DJ’s flipped it over for “What’s Easy” to take off as the dancefloor choice. EMI executives almost immediately re-Promoted the single switching the Red “A” to the other side, and the subsequent release with the “Sold Subject to..” text on the centerpiece, sold reasonably well. As early as 1963 those Soul DJ’s were being monitored. So before you today is the rarely seen and utterly gorgeous Red & White DEMO that those early 60s original club DJ’s made happen. Two stonkin’ dance sides of course and a quirky historical conversation-piece too. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 81.00 Melvin Moore All Of A Sudden C/w Tennesse No words from me can elevate this extremely rare modern soul dancer any higher than it already sits in the ratings of the finest most difficult to acquire Soulful-Dance 45s ever made. It is without question mine and many others favourite example of the genre… Listen, swoon and bathe in it’s glory! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 863.00 Bitter & The Sweet I Won't Have Any Babies For You C/w P.o.w. Feelgood 70s Detroit Soulful dancer with a dedicated dancefloor following. A pre-disco dancer with all the purity collectors of the soul are seeking whilst collecting rare vinyl. Muscular male lead, male vocal group co-operation with a seamless girl voice making up the duet and in between all manner of harmonies, chants and instrumental interludes.. 7. Marvin Gaye This Love Starved Heart Of Mine (it's Killing Me) Condition!! Condition!!! Condition!!!! Startling! like new, not a freckle, smudge, hair, dust or microbe on the vinyl.. …not a wrinkle, crease, crinkle, vein, blemish or fingerprint on the picture sleeve… ..the labels squinted like baby Moles when released…to experience daylight for the very first time The state of this 45 and sleeve could not be more magnificent. Click the soundfile lifted from a previous listing, shudder and consider what it will be like to be the first person to deflower this virgin of Motown mastery. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 425.00 Jerry Butler I Stand Accused C/w I Don't Want To Hear Anymore Chris Blackwell & Guy Stevens determination to bring the finest Soul music to this iconic venture is again evident as they release the silky vocal vocals of Jerry Butler’s 1964 release in the UK in 1966. With the lyrical assistance of brother Billy the pair forge one of Jerry’s greatest studio moments, a stand-out ballad showcasing why Jerry is considered a Giant of Soul music. This 45 is the RARE “A” stamped British promo with the treasured company sleeve. Eye-Candy for the serious Brit collector - eye-candy for those who appreciate stand-out soul vocals. Condition is flawless. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 103.00 Mr. Lee & The Frank Andrade Five Hey Mrs. Jones Here is not only a surefire candidate for NS dancefloor action it is also a steeping stone in Soul-History, from the label that gave us that fabulous Leon Peterson 45 comes another declaration of quality and rarity. A 20 year old reformed Barry White under the pseudonym of Mr. Lee leaves his brush with the law behind to growl his newly deepened voicebox through a mesmerizing R&B dance arrangement. Young Barry’s vocal is just starting to develop those “Walrus Of Love” tones which perfectly marry to this thumping production. We have no need to tell you how rare this 45 is - so listen to an iconic voice evolving; within 2 years he was recording as “Lee Barry” for Downey records; a studio he often hung out in. Shortly after that he joined Bob Keene at Bronco Records which witnessed the return to his “Barry White” moniker he used on Faro Records, as “Barry Carter” found a lasting identity that would achieve worldwide recognition. So, before you today is what we believe to be a “Monster” for the Northern Soul turntable… yet again Barry White’s influence will affect a dancefloor… this time with his rarest 45 to date.. Sorry, this item has already been won! As “Twisted Wheel” anthems reach the peak of popularity we offer up the tough to find Atlantic distributed BLACK stock copy that lifts any confusion caused by the White Promo that received a devious counterfeit during the 70s. Vinyl on the A-side is a clean Mint - flipside is Ex+ with a few brief insignificant light surface blemishes. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 171.00
  8. Register Soul Twins Quick Change Artist C/w Give The Man A Chance The “TORCH” and it’s DJ’s set the foundations for this scene to stampede forward into the 70s trampling every other British underground music fanbase in it’s wake. Little wonder, as there was no other form of music to be heard back in the Glam-Rock polluted era, that could compare with tunes of this unparalleled power and presence. At a time when we knew little of the talents of Mike Terry, Ollie McLaughlin etc. dropping the needle on this baby, detonated head-spins, back-drops and other mind-boggling forms of gymnastic mayhem throughout the night at Tunstall’s place of Soul-Worship. Before you today is a super-clean White Promo copy of one of “The Golden Torch’s” true classics. But at this time in Northern Soul developement, it’s the equally amazing flipside that is grabbing DJ attention.. “Give A Man A Chance”.. wow what a choon that is!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 234.00 Flash Mckinley I'll Rescue You C/w Milly Oh which side to choose, what a lovely dilemma whilst playing seriously rare Northern Soul. This offering is considered one of the greatest “Woo Woo” records ever to grace the Northern Soul scene. “Woo Woo” ? that will become crystal clear why you hear the most divine girl-group chorus moistening your ears as the intro glides in. This is easy-going distilled Northern Soul dripping in pure class - a mid-tempo act of brilliance that just squeezes the inner-part of you, taking you to a level of dance-subconscious only a few records have the power to do. Flip it over and Flash again “smooths” his way through another Northern Soul stroller this time moisturize with a sprinkling of Latin influence, wchich works so well. If your penchant is the mid-tempo floater with mesmerizing girls beckoning you to the dancefloor - there are not any better examples than this “Woo Woo” masterpiece. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,517.00 Laura Lee To Win Your Heart How utterly gorgeous is this 1966 head-turner from Canada? A much-loved Detroit Northern Soul that has stood the test of time, as it ripples with the power to ignite steamy-club-euphoric-recall as the opening bars catapult you back to your formative years. 1000’s of times rarer than the Ric Tic release and pressed in that high-fidelity sturdy RCA vinyl, as opposed to the Ric Tic styrene. Just altogether the most-desirable format you can own this timeless NS Anthem in…ignore it’s beautiful clout if you can. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 187.00 Nella Dodds I Just Gotta Have C/w Honey Boy A mysterious Philly Soul Princess who between 1964 - 1966 recorded & released fully six singles for Wand - this was her last 45 and by far her rarest most-wanted disc, then she disappeared without trace. Strange because this lady owned the voice of an angel. Essentially “pre-Arctic” recordings guided by the “Dynodynamics” team, the boys who crafted so many great Northern Soul recordings heavily influence by Detroit and the Motown Sound. As you will hear with the fabulous girl-group cradled dancer we lead with, so sweet is the lead as it floats on a thermal wave of girl-group chorus and horns. Killer Sister Northern Soul of the very highest quality. Which “Dynodynamics” again underline their Detroit connections with stonking version of the Holland-Dozier-Holland Supremes Album track “Honey Boy” arranged by Detroiter “sax God” Mike Terry. Two great sides - shrouded in the mystery of why this outstanding vocalist abruptly ended her career and why her last ever 45 is just so darn elusive? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 315.00
  9. sorry for the delay, had a few pc problems, power went off for about 10 seconds.
  10. Eddie Carlton Misery C/w It Wil Be Done For lovers of the ridiculously RARE Northern Soul eye-candy from far flung places - check out this Canadian double helping of pure distilled General Norman Johnson crafted Northern Soul. Wow BOTH sides are scintillating NS Stompers of the most magnificent kind - the elusivity of it’s 1966 SWAN label Philly press has hampered it’s NS DJ turntable-time since the mid-70s with the UK Cream pressing not featuring thr best side “MISERY” Click the sound file and prepare to be moved.. check out the label scan and prepare to fall in love. The winning bid was £ 161.00 Jackie Wilson It Only Happens When I Look At You C/w Where Is Love Not issued in the USA of course on a 45. And considered one his finest Northern Soul offerings - on the UK Brunswick but as the Spanish release it has another bonus beside the head-turning picture sleeve. It has utterly gorgeous “WHERE IS THE LOVE” on the flipside, in every other country it is the lead album track for his lusted-after “Nobody But You” album. This rarely seen 1977 Spanish 45 offers the collector a double musical delight and a picture sleeve into the bargain. “Where Is Love” is an El Perfecto tune for the likes of a rainy Saturday afternoon at “Soul Essence” so silky, so controlled, so easy on the ear.. this is Jackie at his most comfortable. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 21.00 Bobby Jenkins Quartet What Is Love Spying the text “Dave Polk Production” on a label and my pulse accelerates, as it should do, as his work on his own Flodavieur & Vistone labels was consistently exciting and decidedly different. If you looking for “different” this rare 45 will catch your ear, as the blend of Jazz, Popcorn & Soul melt into one memorable strolling dance groove. Nowadays an increasing amount of us “Old-School” Northern Soul fans delve into the Popcorn/ Tittyshaker genres as the more adventurous Club DJ’s stretch their boundaries. I just love all Dave Polk’s work - as he draws from Los Angeles vocal-group recordings, Jazz and R&B with most of his recordings. Check out this filthy-moody stroller, it’ll creep under your skin offering up yet another off-shoot of Rare-Soul collecting to consider. I believe the DJ currently spinning it pitches it up by 3rpm… forcing even dirtier urges to trickle through… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 104.00 Sharon Mc Mahan Get Out Of My Life So delicious is the vocal, so delicate is the simplistic backing, so lush are the quilted strings, so moving are the aggrieved lyrics. This is a tune to pierce your every emotion. “I Want You To Get Out Of My Life” is a message Ms. McMahan delivers so convincingly. “Get INTO my Life” will be the thoughts of those amongst you who need to live with the greatest soul tunes ever made. So very good… it hurts.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 177.00
  11. Tammy St. John Nobody Knows What's Goin' On Hearing this 45 rockets me back to that era of Northern Soul, when DJ’s like Nev Wherry, Alan Rhodes, Rick Scott, Ian Clark etc would almost weekly turn up a UK only release that became a Northern Soul dancefloor winner. Over those formative years scouring the market stalls, junk shops etc. turned up some timeless greats. John E. Paul, Wayne Gibson, Chapter Five, John Ford, Barry Benson, Paradox, Jason Knight Five and a Penny, Carl Douglas, Samantha Jones etc. etc. sparking a Klondike style vinyl-rush to discover the next candidate to rock The Casino, Yate or Cleethoroes Pier. This offering was right up there with the best - a fabulous British take on The Chiffons Laurie recording, a particular choice spin for Nev Wherry who with others turned it into a crowd-pleaser. As a flawless winter of 1966 DEMO copy - it still pleasures the serious about British Soul, today. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 168.00 Major Lance Ain't No Soul (in These Old Shoes) C/w You'll Want Me Back It’s a timeless NS Anthem from a Father-figure of the scene… Not only that but it’s the coveted 1966 British Promo in impeccable condition. A small point of interest is that British EMI actually on this release paired Okeh 7255 to Okeh 7266 putting two fabulous tunes back to back. and leaving the flipsides “The Beat” & “I” in the wilderness. Dave Godin picked up on “The Beat” for Soul City release 3 years later and “I” the original flip for “Ain’t No Soul” in the USA is now considered an overlooked Beat Ballad Giant. EMI made some puzzling decisions in choice of material, but there’s is nothing puzzling about this “Green Goddess”. “Ain’t No Soul” was from the start a War-cry for Northern Soul Religion. This copy is in exquisite condition.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 123.00 Troy Johnson I Want You C/w This Ain't The Way Renowned Los Angeles rarity with an enviable pedigree for non-availability… In fact this is our first copy for fully 6 years. Stunning street-art label is complimented by the fabulously soulful dance tune in the grooves. Punching keyboard rattles out the intro, squealing girl choir chorus supports the Troy Johnson beseeching vocal approach to the lyrics; making the whole session a sensational example of what is possible when writers and producers ignore the commercial outside influences and just go with their heart. Soulful rare-dance-soul at it’s rarest & most convincing. Flip it over the may pace drop a little but the soulfulness doesn’t. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 310.00 Tabby Thomas "popeye" Train This weeks rare R&B shaker comes from the prolific pen of Jay (Miller) West a name that that turns up with astonishing frequency on Excello and other Blues based labels, a spring of seemingly endless lyrics and arrangements. On this elusive 1962 R&B Juggernaut he collaborates with an artist very comfortable with delivering a potent dance tune, Louisiana Blues Giant Tabby Thomas rips into this mid-tempo chugger enhanced by dirty-filthy saxophone and horns doing a great job evoking visions of a mighty “Casey Jones” Steam Train a rolling through the dancefloor. Not one but two lengthy sexy-sax breaks elevate the tune to another level, as Tabby snarling and a growling just get more pronounced, this is stunningly effect early 60s R&B dance! Fabulously primitive in your face RB/Boogaloo guaranteed to get the house rockin’. Condition df this PROMO copy - is utterly flawless. So hard to locate these seldom-seen Excello’s in such fine condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 188.00 Jerry Williams Run Run Roadrunner C/w I'm In The Danger Zone There are no rules, guidelines or obvious reasons why a record is rare and more to the point a rare record does not carry a huge price tag. There are out there in soul-collecting record-land just oodles of under-valued, under appreciated and under-exposed masterpieces. On these pages each week we try to give some of these passed-by gems the long overdue acknowledgement they deserve. Are you ready to listen to a mountain of sound from one of our best-loved artists; a BIG CITY session that ripples with power and presence. This Jerry Williams project with long term team-member Richie Rome is every note as impressive as “If You Ask Me” and it will leave you wondering why you’ve not heard it belting out in the more adventurous DJ sets on underplayed get togethers. The simple answer is, it is damn hard to find, it has after all been a huge “Island” scene tune for decades. That didn’t help it reach the Northern Soul collections, but I feel this is a genuinely hard 45 to secure. Listen and you’ll be blown out your seat by a man with a penchant for the dramatic.. If you dig it - go to the very absorbing facebook page “BEAT BALLAD HEAVEN” where much-more of this style can be heard.. surely there’s space for a Northern Soul DJ who champions these Tsunami-powered-Beaters , they are utterly moving. Awesome tune, from an awesome artist - awesome condition - well, just altogether awesome…! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 86.00
  12. Constellations I Don't Know About You C/w Easy To Be Hard From it’s source we think this 45 was unplayed before we clean and lifted the sound file, which reveals fabulous New York vocal group Northern Soul that has grown in reputation, demand and awareness to monster proportions over the last 15 years. Not to be confused with the similarly titled “I Didn’t know How To” this recordings resides in a different league. With some of the most diverse range of vocal pitches you will hear on a Northern soul dance record. The exalted harmonies soar on the back of a Richard Tee string-propelled arrangement enriched by persistent palming of tambourines, drum rolls, piano all drive this divine recording to heights of excellence. To be honest it’s a record I’m already regretting listing - infectious masterpiece in near perfect condition. Two flawless labels, original birth sleeve and vinyl that only suffers from the merest paper sleeve brush blemish or two. A tip-top copy! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,003.00 Inticers Since You Left C/w I Got To Find Me A Baby Let’s not mess around - you are looking at one of THE RAREST Northern Soul 45s known to man. This San Mateo, California creation is more than one of those super-rare disc that lack a little in musical substance - this Northern-Soul-Unicorn offers the privileged owner TWO totally murderous dancefloor marauders. Another ridiculously rare Harold Andrews Motownesque session that “H” actually mailed to Hitsville on an acetate for consideration for Motown release. This request, for Harold was sadly declined - but for the Northern Soul Paleontologist, it was the birth of a “NS Impossible” For those of you who are fascinated by acute-rarity, we can inform you this is not a “find”, it comes from a very reluctant and eminent NS collector who doesn’t think he’ll ever emotionally recover from “saying goodbye” to one of the greatest records in his collection. LET’S GET SERIOUS! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 3,496.00 Life Tell Me Why C/w That's Life I first heard this superlative journey into vocal-group Northern Soul as a 1974 new release on a Thursday Night @ The Lacano, Leicester when Blackpool Mecca regulars Paul Rudzitis and mutual friend “Shelvo” played it. Shelvo’s told me Colin Curtis thought t was the best record he’d ever heard, I’ve never been a sycophant but I had to agree this was one stand-out tune with no comparable. This copy that pair were flaunting was an ISSUE, I was informed it was a USA new release Colin Curtis has gleaned from somewhere. The “I’ll get one then” - statement has never been so misunderstood or more inaccurate; as it was perhaps a decade before I saw a STOCK copy again. Why such sheer brilliance never sold a bean, I’ll never know. All I know are two things.. in this format it is an iconic example of rare soul collecting. As a record, it is along with “The Carstairs - It Really Hurts Me Girl” defines a course changing moment in the history, not only of “The Blackppol Mecca” but also the Northern Soul Scene as the “modern” sound became another string to pluck on the Northern Soul harp. PS for me one of the most-perfect-of-tunes I’ve ever heard.. so much so “The Lacarno” experience and the time wasted trying to order a copy, seems like only yesterday. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 305.00 Jean Carter Like One C/w That Boy Ain't No Good it’s 2014 how can it be possible to find a Northern Soul anthem still in unplayed condition? Well this particular offering was filed in a California Country & Western collection in the 60s and as far as we can tell left unplayed… until I had time on my hands and rummaged through a mass of “Country” filings. Sound quality is stunning - labels are perfect - vinyl forensics reveals only the the lightest signs of sleeve contact storage. YOU WILL NOT LOCATE A BETTER COPY of this double helping of Lori Burton & Pam Sawyer a gifted pairing that gave Northern Soul so much to cheer about. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 334.00 Blue Busters & Byron Lee And The Dragonaires Can't Believe You're Gone Extremely RARE and totally slick mid-tempo Northern Soul groove from Philip James & Lloyd Campbell with fluid backing provided by Bryon Lee and his Dragonaires. Philip & Lloyd’s vocals thaw into a clear pool of Soul as the voices play soulful-volley-ball, as the duo flow through their own composition with consummate ease and class. A mood-lifting session giving up one of those sessions that just melts into your heart. Impressive rarity and bristling with class. Reggae fans the flip is worth a listen.. a Bryon Lee production again flooded with those uplifting signature characteristics. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 174.00

  14. Passion The Spell Is Gone Brooklyn Soul - as Sweet as You Like It - and as Rare As You’d Dare Hope for.. Melting harmonies dissolve into a heavenly cloud of SOUL, the atmosphere lifted when an icy-cold falsetto pierces the air. Cradled in a blanket of beautifully timed and perfectly supported vocal-backing, listen to the amazing high-pitched delivery taking hold. ..this 80s indie from the streets of Brooklyn, New York is as perfect a ballad as you could ever wish to tune in to. Not a hint of any commercial influences, only convincing lyrics welded by a gathering seeking complete tranquility. 80s Sweet don’t come any better than this - most elusive 45. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 155.00 Sonny Fishback Heart Breaking Man C/w Won't Take Back These NOTE this is the highly coveted BMI CAMEO Publishing & KODEL MUSIC version which means it’s the rarely witnessed full-on production - the upbeat saturated with horns & girls superior mix that demands you dance. Right from the first drum-smack Robert Banks brings in the horns ready to match up to Sonny Fishback’s gnarled vocal that just tears into his own lyrics. Then comes the Robert Banks directed horn break, before Sonny smashes back into the fray to escalate this stomper even higher. PROPER ALL-NITER NORTHERN SOUL and there’s more…. Flip it over for excruciating DEEP SOUL as an unrepentant Mr. Fishback tells his girl he ain’t gonna take all the hurt she has showered upon him… PROPER SOUL-ESSENCE LOUNGE flesh-tearing DEEP SOUL! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 305.00 Groovettes Think It Over Baby C/w Ain't A Thing You Can Do About It Another highly esteemed Northern soul trophy rescued from its entombing in the 70s - lifted from storage and in the type of condition you’d have found it in 1966. A flawless previously unplayed PROMO copy of this highly effective, totally haunting Billy Jackson project, constructed during his self imposed migration from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. Billy gets right down to basics, grinding out a real-nitty-gritty girl-group mid-tempo winner with a pleading lead, and impressive prompting sax intrusions. Alluringly primitive, with a naivety that screams everything that is Northern Soul, then the saxophone elevates the session again with a solo burst of pure excellence. Truly wonderful stuff from a real talent of the studio, who takes the girls on a frantic trip on the flipside! A crazed hipshaker again epitomizing the mid-60s girl-group sound. Condition is blinding, played once and unblemished. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 746.00 Blues & Soul # 8 May 1968 One of the rarest of all the 60’s Blues and Soul edition and the first time we’ve been able to offer a copy! Bio’s and artist shots on Harold Burrage, Jimmy Lewis, Arretha Franklin, Delphonics, Robert Knight & Jackie Ross. Dave Godin two page column Record company adverts inc: Soul City, Tamla Motown, Stateside, Coxsone, Island etc. Plus 45 & LP reviews and the Charts UK & USA.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 104.00 Paul Anka When We Get There Simply the biggest dancefloor favourite of Northern Soul oldies nights in the UK at the moment. Before we get in bigotry about “white” guys singing Northern Soul and maligning the song or the artist because they’ve had a pop hit or three. It’s time to pay homage to the much-versatile Paul Anka who gave us one of the greatest Northern soul offering ever, courtesy of “I Can’t Help Loving You” but that was produced by some of New York biggest contributors to the Northern Soul Scene (Garry Sherman, Artie Schroeck, Jet Loring & the great Charlie Calello) This is a different animal, more middle-of-the-road, but arranged & produced by another provider of many NS classics, Don Costa, who injects that magical something that transforms an ordinary “pop” tune into an Northern Soul dancer. So let’s give Mr. Anka the respect such a talent deserve - full 4 contributions to the Northern Soul scene, not forgetting his call up to MUSCLE SHOALS and his work with Rick Hall and staff who obviously thought he had “soul” when they paired him with Odia Coates. The man has a great voice that he can adapt to most-any form of music. It’s the people in the studio who transformed his “white” disposition into something the NS Scene can embrace… This is ready to be embraced - because BLACK RCA that’s exactly what they your made for - to love or not love whatever your taste may be. But nobody can question this iconic artist’s prowess… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 213.00 Willie Mae ( Big Mama ) Thornton Tom Cat C/w Monkey In The Barn This week’s R&B offering we think is rather special - not only because of it’s “perfect” condition. Of course this George Allen composition on Nathaniel McCoy’s is considered the “Ultimate” British SUE 345 record to own, it is that-RARE! But as the original 1965 USA Los Angeles press it is also a mean secretive creature. One of three consecutive singles Willie Mae released during 1965 to 66. So click the soundfile to be buffeted by Willie Mae indomitable vocal and witness a lady strut her stuff like nobody else could. “Greatest Blues singer ever” producer Nate McCoy. This 45 is the very finest copy ever to be offered over the internet - most likely unplayed before the soundfile was lifted - both labels are as new! We do not think anyone will ever locate a more perfect copy! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 387.00
  15. Delores Hall Good Lovin' Man C/w W-o-m-a-n Any WHITE DEMO aficionado reading this will be nodding his head when we say - “here is a USA WHITE PROMO you just never see” it is after all like our recent listing of “Cody Black - Going Going Gone - white demo” it is totally inexplicably RARE! Stomping, foot-to-the-floor high-octane Northern Soul dragster from the office of two of Los Angeles most-respected manufacturers of our sound, the gifts of Fred Smith and James Carmichael again spew out another perfect example vibe-ridden Northern Soul. As a WHITE DEMO this is a prize… but check out this lady’s mighty vocal supported by squealing girls and the production rams up the fever-pitch. Flip it over and Fred & James draw from the Stax sound - no easy thing to do, but they capture the essence of Memphis completely with a Funky, Funky down n’ dirty stroller. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 53.00 Hard Road Featuring C. C. Neal Dedicated To You C/w If You Really Love Me Hollywood, California rarity featuring “Soul Craft’s” C. C. Neal on a Patrinella Staton styled funk flavoured Crossover Northern Soul dancer. Lovers of the carefully crafted early 70s grooves will adore the production decorated with purring female choruses and a leisurely guitar riff softly plugging away in the background. Seemingly effortless but oh-so effective! Potential in the right hands for European or Soul Essence Weekender greatness is blatant, late night Great Yarmouth shuffling would be so irresistible and the comparisons with the P.S. Sepia monster are unavoidable…Listen, absorb and enjoy this classy creation. Vinyl has a few innocuous light surface marks - flipside label has a small area of “browning. AS you can hear it plays loud, clean & true! Flip it over for a primitive funk groove featuring relentless wah-wah guitar and shrill vocal backing embellishing C. C.’s nicotine coated tonsils.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 131.00 Guitar Ray Patty Cake Shake C/w New True Love Crescent City writer and guitarist Raymond Washington again forges a fabulous piece of New Orleans dance-soul. On one of the city’s iconic labels, Guitar Ray pumps out potent 60’s Northern Soul bristling with all the characteristics you expect from this hive-of-soul-activity. Powerful throughout as it demands you to dance! But more importantly I’ve personally only experienced a handful of copies of this 45 and all have been used and abused. It is today, very pleasing indeed to handled a near perfect PROMO. From a city that long been striped of it’s vinyl wealth. Plenty of potential for the DJ here, for a bigger ticket and strong dancefloor reaction that has previously been denied by poor condition and rarity. Deep Soul fans, you will love the flipside.. a pleading performance dripping with desperation aided by equally despairing horn section. Label voyeurs, you will also find it totally irresistible. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 88.00 Mary Wells Mary Wells - Ep What makes a British 45 Rare? You’d think this 1965 EMI tribute to Mary Wells’ contribution to Motown would have sold by the bucketful, but nothing could be further from the truth. Mary had left Motown for fresh pastures with 20th Century Fox - could that be the reason this EP received poor sales? Or was it perhaps because the four tracks on the EP: 1. My Guy 2. Oh Little Boy, 3. What’s Easy For Two 4. You Lost The Sweetest Boy All sold well on the Stateside release a couple of years earlier? Whatever the reason (as serious British Tamla collectors will confirm), this 4-track EP is one annoyingly elusive piece to secure. Vinyl inspection reveals only a few brief light surface marks - not affecting fidelity. Labels are flawless, front cover has 3 light laminate veins top right hand corner (see scan), back cover is completely free of imperfections. If you collect Tamla Motown EP’s this is most-likely missing from the run… don’t ask me why? Sorry, this item has already been won! 16. Auction Help Register Bobby Sheen Doctor Love - Sweet Sweet Love EMI soon realized in the mid-60s SOUL was the new Rock & Roll for the British teenagers. So they imprinted the new slogan “DISCOTHEQUE SERIES” to their Capitol label and “SOUL SUPPLY” to Liberty & Stateside etc. Along with Alexander Patton this 1966 Los Angeles session soon became “Twisted Wheel, Mojo, Scene etc.” anthems. Which today still sparks frantic dancefloor response when aired. But for me and many others today - it’s the preciously overlooked “underdog” flipside that carries the value. “Sweet Sweet Love” is a masterpiece way ahead of it’s 1966 birth date. A fluid Gebe Page arrangement weaves Jerry Rioplle & Nick de Caro lyrics into a sheer listening and dancing delight as Al “Right On” De Lory beefs up the production. It’s just top qusality 60s SOUL with an iconic a-side tat has shok British Soul Clubs for nearly five decades. Condition is superb throughout. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 122.00 Superlatives I Still Love You C/w We're So Lonely An exquisite copy of this “Torch” anthem - impeccable condition throughout, again a Northern Soul classic that seems to have avoided the DJ circuit. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 121.00 Art Freeman Slipping Around C/w Can't Get Out Out Of My Mind What a lovely, lovely copy of this timeless “Twisted Wheel” classic. Besides a few minuscule brief very faint sleeve contact blemishes this 45 is as good as it gets. This maybe Muscle Shoals recording at it’s most-vibrant, with Dan Penn & Linden “Spooner” Oldham driving the proceedings and Rick Hall with his foot-on-the-gas keeping those renowned Muscle Shoals musicians pumping up the rythm - but it was missed by everyone in 1966 upon UK release as Art Freeman at the time was a unknown to British shores, and sold virtually nothing. Today this stands as one of the very hardest UK Atlantic’s to acquire and one of the longest standing “Twisted Wheel” spins that still rams the floors today. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 310.00 Ty Karim Lightin' Up C//w Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight The undisputed Queen of Rare Soul! Need that statement validating? Relentless, persistent, raucous old-school Northern Soul. Besides the always impressive Winfield Parker vocal we are treated to a backing arrangement mix incorporating a dramatic mix a swirling hammond, squawking Sax, barbaric brass all rise up and send this stomper through the roof. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL at it’s most intimidating! The flip is worth a listen but is not in the same league, as this full-blooded Beast of a lead side! Listen and be prepared to have your hair blown back, and your feet taken from under you, do not settle for the YELLOW label version, it is anemic by comparison… Sorry, this item has already been won! "She died today at her Los Angeles home. She passed away from natural causes. They discovered her body at 3:00 a.m.," said Maureen O'Connor, executive vice president of publicists Rogers & Cowan. more via http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/chi-marvin-gaye-exwife-dies-at-92-20140131,0,3015680.story Anna Ruby Gordy was born in Milledgeville, Georgia, located in Baldwin County, Georgia, the third-eldest of eight children of Berry Gordy Sr. (Berry Gordy II) and Bertha Ida (née Fuller) Gordy. Shortly after her birth, Gordy's father moved up to Detroit from Georgia to seek a better life for his family and to escape any hint of racial tension due to a business deal, later sending for his family after settling down. Gordy, like most of her family, became a successful businesswoman, starting out as a co-operator of the photo concession at Detroit's Flame Show Bar in the early fifties with sister Gwen, later starting her own namesake label, Anna Records with Gwen and Billy Davis in 1958, a year before her brother Berry launched Tamla Records, later to be a subsidiary for Motown. The label would later be noted as the distributor of Tamla's first national hit record, "Money (That's What I Want)". Other artists such as David Ruffin, Marvin Gaye and Joe Tex also recorded for the label, which lasted until 1961, when Berry Gordy absorbed the label and its artists. Gordy then joined her brother's label and started the Artist Development class, becoming its president. Gordy also joined Motown's staff team as a songwriter. Gordy's biggest success as a songwriter came in the late 1960s and early 1970s, co-writing two major hits for Motown group The Originals, alongside her then-husband Marvin Gaye, including "Baby, I'm For Real" and "The Bells", which also featured Anna's niece Iris, as a co-writer. In 1971, Gordy's husband released the acclaimed What's Going On, which featured two songs co-composed by Gordy, including "Flyin' High (In the Friendly Sky)" and "God Is Love". The song's musical instrumentation was co-composed by Gordy and was used in another Gaye-Gordy composition, "Just to Keep You Satisfied", which Gaye produced versions by The Monitors and The Originals before overdubbing the Originals' version for his own version on 1973's Let's Get It On. However on Gaye's version, the singer completely rewrote the lyrics and based the song on the demise of a marriage. Immerse yourself in a vocal group Northern Soul Crossover groove, rippling with the specific intention of delivering smooth-soul. Edward Nelson the driving force behind the gathering has more than one great rarity to his name. On this super-scarce 45 he again hits us with something from his heart. Jazzy arrangement incorporates flutes, guitar caresses and “Apples” lead vocal dripping with desire drags the lyrics from deep inside, then the “3 Oranges” girl-group purr out the chorus… It is records like this that makes record collecting so rewarding… Record plays perfect but te only only two copies I’ve witness of this 45 has a masterplate flaw that gives a fine ridge on the surface and another in the deadwax, neither blips affect play whatsoever - but it’s maybe the reason it’s is so darn rare - the visual glitch perhaps prevented it hitting the streets. The winning bid was £ 111.00 San Remo Strings International Love Theme Chiseled into the interior of every old-school Northern Soulie’s aortas are San Remo Strings “Festival Time” “Hungry For Love” “I’m Satisfied” But burned into the mind of the serious label collectors is the RED STOCK copy of this orchestra’s least loved Ric Tic offering. We are talking Godzilla-Rare stock copy of a record the PROMO copy is a dime-a-dozen. This will only appeal to label-completists but when it comes to the RIC-TIC label, there is an army of them out there.. and in that army there are only a couple of generals actually own copy. RARE in the extreme.. ain’t it just! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 307.00 Chubby Checker You Just Don't Know (what You Do To Me Girl) Chicago conceived but Philly delivered! This is a Northern Soul classic of classics, such an important piece in our long and varied NS history; as the first copy played came from it’s British release. Then the search was on, a few, in fact a very very few British 45’s came to light over the decades to come. But the USA copy remained unearthed, which was very puzzling to all on the CC hunt.. until we realized Cameo Parkway never released it in the USA. They didn’t even PROMO it, except for this wildly elusive October 1965 Los Angeles press. It didn’t receive a vinyl promo in any other part of the country. There is however ONE solitary test press that USA Parkway Record Archive had press for reference…in 1965., so rarity could hardly be more solid. In my lifetime so far I’ve only ever found one copy of this in the wild. That was in a different century - today if we are lucky enough to be able to list a copy - i still find myself drooling over the “staggered” Parkway logo, the iconic two shield label design…and remember how I used to fantasize about finding a copy every single time I visited California.. Still a thrill today - heart-stoppingly RARE! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 555.00 O. V. Wright What Did You Tell This Girl Of Mine C/w What About You It could have only been sheer-scarcity that prevented this becoming a 60’s club-classic or was it because it’s hidden away on the flipside - or was it because in the 60s there was an avalanche of British Soul releases to consider..? Most likely it was because of UK SUE policy of tiny pressing runs and their habit of deleting product sometimes within weeks of release - whatever the cause this is a sensational piece of Texas dance soul tat needs to be heard! Not only at Twisted Wheel tribute nights - but right across the Northern Soul spectrum…meaty, growling NS does not get more effective than this. Flip it for some staggering Deep Soul from a record that looks like it was pressed yesterday, not in 1967. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 56.00
  22. Auction Help Register Buddy Ace Screaming Please This highly regarded label’s most-wanted Northern Soul spin of the moment. A click of the soundfile will reveal exactly why the DJ and collectors are clamouring to own a copy, besides in looking gorgeous. Yet again the industrious pen of Deadric Malone (Don Robey) provides the world’s most-famous underground dance scene with another irresistible invitation to get up off your seat. Buddy Ace gives you plenty time to do so, as the slow precise horn intro opens up into a mid-tempo trombone guided floater that blossoms into one classy-mover, as we melt in the presence of Mr. Ace’s gargling with sand vocal gets to work… the now inspired brass gets up and to it. It’s magic! it’s just an utterly glorious session of distilled purely tantalizing Texas soul! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 616.00 Nabay Nabay Legendary Northern Soul from Detroit. For those who dream of owning the most prestigious NS “impossibles”, here it is in the flesh, the rarest record on a label that gave so much to Northern Soul. This is an acquisition that the serious about this “Way Of Life” will remember for ever.. This copy has a few light surface marks as you can hear it plays loud and clean BOTH sides, label has minor paper rub wear but all text bright and clear. it’s an eye-popping-piece - just the fact a copy is available for ownership speaks volumes..as i can’t even remember the last copy we had… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,509.00 Shane Martin I Need You C/w You're So Young A listing for the many off you who yearn to own the least seen forms of the real-deal Northern Soul Classics. Enough of the “Blacks” how about those seldom seen “Yellows” This Epic STOCK copy is in sublime flawless condition, hanging to it’s originall birth-sleeve.. Personally I just bloody adore these “white guys” with soul - especially if Artie “I Can’t Help Loving You” Schroeck is arranging them… Real Deal Northern in it’s least encountered form.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 210.00 Ray Pollard It's A Sad Thing C/w All The Things You Are Nothing quite catches the eye quite like the British Red & White DEMO! ..and certainly nothing catches the ear like the booming-pipes of Ray Pollard in full voice.. The winning bid was £ 50.00 Apple & The 3 Oranges Love Brings Out The Best Of You C/w My Baby For those of you who like to dig deep for those urban-private presses of staggering quality, here is a Rare beauty from the streets of Los Angeles. Whatever…it’s a gorgeous slab of Crossover that only a very lucky few own. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 380.00
  23. Bill Brown Bip Bam (thank You Ma'am) Part 1 & 2 Pre-Disco era Los Angeles FUNK! Slowly but surely this urban-slab of FUNK expands itself into an authoritative hammond propelled dance tune, as the recording unfolds more and more intricate arranging comes to the fore; So much so I personally prefer the flipside laced with jazzy keyboard work and only sparse vocal interruptions. Incredibly rare 45 from rewarding streets on Inglewood.. an area which has given up some fabulously rare Soul 45s in it’s history. Be sure to check out this Forceful-Funker that will creep under your skin revealing it potential as ideal Club-fodder for those hungry to feed the New-Breed Northern Soul Funk scene. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 47.00 Luther Ingram If It's All The Same To You Babe C/w Exus Trek CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION!! Flawless VINYL promo copy with two perfect labels.. collecting or dealing in the Northern Soul Classics does not get anymore satisfying than holding, listening and staring at records of this quality! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 700.00 August Moon Wasted Years C/w You're Together Baby Seems like another lifetime since I’ve seen this 45. Then an internet listing in horrid condition reminded me of just how darn good this “yet to make it” candidate for Northern Soul stardom is. Back in the early 70s it was the throbbing “You’re Together Baby” that caught the DJ’s attention, but sadly got swamped and lost as the plethora of Northern Soul discoveries buried it for decades to come. More recently it is the delicious mid-tempo side “Wasted Years” with uncanny Detroit influences. But this is no Motor City creation, it’s an hybrid from Richmond, Virginia and New York. So who crafted such a thing of beauty..? Step forward Richmond’s Mr. Wiggles “August Moon” the driving force behind Little Tommy, Dickie Wonder etc. on the “Sound Of Soul” label and New York’s producer of huge renowned Robert Banks.. little wonder this is one special disc..with these two doyens at the helm. Bursting with potential no matter what side you introduce the stylus to..after sleeping for far too long this begs DJ ownership. this copy, as you can hear and see is a totally flawless Mint - / Mint - Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 631.00 Kim Weston 1968 Stax / Volt Press Kit Soul Diva & Motown Northern Soul icon. Here is her extremely RARE 1971 Stax / Volt 8” by 10” glossy artist with 6 page A4 biography! we have sample three for your consideration. Stunning picture and unique insight into Kim relaunching her career after her Motown departure. Where and when will you see another one. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 20.00 Jerry Williams If You Ask Me (because I Love You) C/w Yvonne When we revisit these classics with fresh ears, the realization of just how entirely wonderful these Northern Soul presentations were hits home; so much in fact most people can remember exactly what year, month & club they first heard them at. From the very first play this record pierced the hearts of the young becoming a instant “Torch” favourite. For me, I first heard it when one of the Stamford boys brought it to “Kirby Lane Youth Club” in Melton Mowbray, the same night Trevor Hurd brought in a copy of “Lenis Guess” for an airing. From that evening Trevor was christened “Lenis Hurd”, the soul boy from Stamford name is now dissolved from my memory…. …Unlike Jerry Williams who’s debut in MM was a hairs on the back of my neck erecting experience… it was moments like that, that pinned us to a lifetime of seeking the “rare sounds” with the power to induce that feeling.. little known to me or my friends, there were 100’s if not 1000’s feeling that exact same thrill across Britain, each time, the now iconic intro boomed from the speakers.. This was then and still is now LIFE CHANGING NORTHERN SOUL …. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 155.00
  24. Martin Raynor & The Secrets Candy To Me C/w You're A Wonderful One Very rare 1965 British versions of Motown dance recordings presented as an irresistible RED & WHITE DEMO! in superb condition. This MOD group’s only single as Martin Raynor and the Secrets, this 7 member team consisted of 2 girl vocalists who are evident throughout as they sweetly replicate the Motown girl back-up chorus. The lead vocal is strong also, with the then unknown Clifford T. Ward also present on the session. Flip it over and they dare to cover Marvin Gaye’s frantic favourite “You’re So wonderful” and what a darn great job they do of it too.. not too many British attempts at Motown are worth a listen, this one being “The Exception To The Rule” as the interpretation is is such a cool fusion of England & Detroit. So why only one record from such a gifted gathering?…well they did emerge again in 1967 on CBS as The Secrets; Clifford T. Ward found huge fame as a songwriter & hitmaker in his own right during the 70s.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 51.00 Willie Mae (big Mama) Thornton Yes I Cried C/w Mercy This weeks rare R&B offering comes from the unparallelled vocal transmission of the Queen of the “Big Gal” sound! Few if any can match the brutal power of Big Mama Thornton in full flight… In 1965 label owner Nathaniel McCoy released 3 45s with a lady he described as “The Greatest Blues Vocalist of All Time” a statement that’s hard to dispute as we listen to this California rarity with Willie Mae and her carburetors wide open.. Upbeat floor-destroying performance directed by the prolific Ray Shanklin. A hip n’ Tittyshaker propelled by full-on brass back up, that is easily overwhelmed by Willie Mae’s uninhibited utterly raucous interpretation of Mr. McCoy’s lyrics. Flip it over to witness Willie Mae’s other side - singing The Blues like no one else can. Seems most-everything on this label of huge repute is elusive or insanely rare - Nathaniel McCoy stated himself, on some releases “I pressed as little as a 100 copies.” Love the label, mesmerized by the artist, intrigued about the rarity! Condition is perfect, in every way. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 100.00 Gary Sole Holdin' On C/w Swoul Light Touch Mississpi’s unsung producer of outstanding music, rears his head again with perhaps his most-famous work that became a Northern Soul monster in the late 70s early 80s on the back of it’s one and only significant find by British record dealer Dave Raistrick. a time-served vinyl-huntsman. Since those golden days of plenty this 45 has disappeared from the market sitting highly prized in amongst the world’s greatest record collections ad DJ boxes. If like most, you were too young or just missed out on ownership during the late 70’s harvest this copy looks flawless in ever way. Click the soundfile for a dose of euphoric-Northern Soul-recall, as late Wigan Casino & Stafford “Top Of The World” coming flooding back.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 511.00 Kellie Evans & Don Albert What We Gonna Do With This Feeling C/w Too Cute SO RARE! At first in the 80’s thought at first to be 12” only! Here’s is the now so seldom seen later discovered 7” 45, giving up two totally conflicting but immense dance recordings. Top side is a lush saxophone decorated soulful-stepper, hugely classy, massively soulful showing off two superior vocals bouncing of others plainly visible desires for each other, then comes a sax break of infinite quality. The whole thing is just a melting excursion into 80s soul… awesome! Flip it over for a relentless dance production that the “Boogie” fans just adore as this too offers up powerful vocals from the handpicked cast from “Crack Stepping”. Full string section backing, and a persistent dance rhythm lift this side into the quality 80’s dance league. Two fine fine sides in it’s rarest form, rarely comes to market but offers so much for the Soul DJ. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 151.00 Minits Still A Part Of Me The years between 60s Soul and the disco-boom were filled with some of soul’s finest sessions, abridged with what is termed “Crossover” Northern Soul..so what better town to find real Soul than Memphis? Sit back and feel the thrill of the classy productions this period gave birth to. The industrious Dan Greer a Bluff City studio name of huge-repute guides a orchestra backing, with Buddy Skipper arranging a rich strings and a bulky horn presence, all that is needed now are some highly honed vocals to match. Step in, a gathering of girls who’s bewitching vocals perfectly fit the atmosphere.. crafting a very special tune indeed, totally immersed in soul and shimmering class.. If that hasn’t sent you diving for the “Bid” button, the flipside is only a note behind in quality… for real-soul collectors and those DJ’s who want their sets to be remembered.. this 45 has everything.. Rare Crossover Northern Soul.. Phew.. don’tcha just adore it! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 166.00
  25. Johnny Honeycutt I'm Coming Over C/w If You Love Me At least twice as many humans have walked on the moon than have found the mythical creature in the wild. That exhausted word “Rare” does not apply to this Northern Soul Grail. This is only the second time in my life, I’ve been able to offer it for sale. (and I have a feeling it could be the exact same copy Simon Soussan sold back in 1990.) Considering the World Wide Web has only ever spewed out two copies, one that “Torvill and Dean” practiced their whole career on and the other allegedly having light vinyl renovation. This offering is a magnificent EX+ copy with two perfect labels. Rare in this case requires another adjective for a more realistic appraisal. “UNICORN-RARE” “SASQUATCH-RARE” “WALKING ON THE MOON RARE” Mythical Northern Soul that for 99.9% of the Northern Soul family have only ever previously seen in dreams… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,435.00 James Galt A Most Unusual Feeling C/w With My Baby This 45 on USA Aurora is an highly sought-after disc in it’s own right. But as the 1966 British PROMO copy it is a rare piece indeed! Benny Gallagher & Graham Lyle pair up to write for their Town-Buddy creating something that nobody appreciated at the time, as both sides carry a well-constructed vocal-group harmony sound; so seldom heard in British productions, with a bass-vocal occasionally booming out East Coast Doo-Wop style adding depth to the session. This is smoothly delivered mood-changing UK Northern Soul crafted by a couple of gifted guys who went on to earn an impressive reputation as the duo Gallagher & Lyle. Do check out the flipside we have all previously passed by - I really like that side too… British DEMO collecting doesn’t come much-more searching than this.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 79.00 Tommy Neal Going To A Happening A timeless Northern Soul that was causing the dancefloor-dash long before anyone in the UK had heard of unparallelled talents of Detroit’s Richard “Popcorn” Wylie, Tony Hester or Mike Terry; A British release on Vocalion, which Decca kept available on the strength of “shop” orders for fully two years, as the recordingsd reputation swelled as it became an instant favorite within the MOD culture and considered a “Twisted Wheel” theme tune. Still over 40 years later, it still does the business when it comes to cramming the floor. But how often do you see this Detroit press in these eye-catching clothes.. not often at all… a listing for those of you who chase the all-time NS anthems in their least-seen colours and enjoy startled faces of the turntable-voyeurs Both labels are immaculate, vinyl has some insignificant light surface marks, but as you can hear it plays perfectly clean and true. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 95.00 Dena Barnes If You Ever Walk Out Of My Life C/w Who Am I (you Ought To Know) The legendary RED STOCK copy! Check out that beautifully clean, perfect fidelity double-soundfile of sweet girl Detroit Northern Soul. The winning bid was £ 751.00 Marvin Preyer Can't Stop Loving Me This Time C/w Climbing Up To Love Deep Soul fans will think of this artist and draw a sharp intact of breath..after all everything Marvin release during the 60s portrayed despair in love so perfectly. For those of you who appreciate real-soul soaked with street-level struggle & angst, this 1968 Memphis Larry Rogers project serves it up by the bucket full. But for those interested in the overlooked possible Northern Soul discoveries, the Joe Arnold directed horn propelled flipside fits-the-bill; offering a strong mid-tempo production bristling with NS potential. Two great sides from a proper “soul” artist on one of the world’s most-collectable labels… a window into a sadly under-recorded but outstanding Soul artist! Sorry, this item has already been won!
