  1. I've mentioned this before but I know a guitarist from Nottingham who used to play for Gene. I ended up on a holiday to Bulgaria with his years ago. Just saying like. Great artist - Gene, not Bob the guitarist. Made some amazing soul. Peter
  2. Bobby Taylor album is class. Having given most of my last collection away I still have a sealed copy of this. Peter
  3. I'm playing a bit of Barbara Mason this afternoon. I love her voice, so unique, there's a vulnerability about it which is so good on the ears. In my collecting days I never sought, or had any complete label or artist vinyl catalogues, but did have most of Barbara's Arctic singles. Any other fans? Favourites? Peter Mm, Mr and Mr Pinches are the posters of that vid. How's things?
  4. I'm happy to be corrected but I don't think there's an issue with selling a "boot" on here. Some are still very collectible. As long as you're clear in the description. Good to see you posting. Peter
  5. Hello mate This is the very strange world of soul music on Soul Source - take it from me, nothing is ever obvious. It looks like you're a fairly new member, so welcome to the site. I look forward to seeing your posts. Best wishes. Peter
  6. Hope I can have a second go. A man who needs a big shout is super cool soulman George Jackson. He wrote so many good records for other artists, producer, director, writer - he had it all. Mr Cool, Mississippi drawl an all. May he rest in peace. George Jackson in Muscle Shoals is well worth a listen and a listing. Peter
  7. Great stuff. I never knew about Chubby and the Turnpikes! Tavares is a much better name - made some good records with the above input I guess. Peter
  8. Good shout Chalky I picked up on this from one of Dean's "album only" show's I think. The Common Broken Heart I think was the track he played - sounds great with volume. I hope you're well buddy. Peter
  9. Just as an aside to the authenticity/rareness aspect of the thread, but a fair question I feel nonetheless; just how popular is this. How many people like it. Tin hat on and all that, but it's not something I particularly like. I'd be interested in your take - is it a big yes or a big fat no!? Thanks. Peter
  10. There's some extremely interesting information coming out of this thread. Way above my head, but still open to learning. Thanks to everyone who have contributed; the knowledge of members on here is quite something. Regards Peter
  11. I know very little of Marvin's music. Just playing this from the album. Quality The shouts for Millie Jackson are good ones. Had her on all morning. Peter
  12. Hi Chris I hope you're well my friend. Great thread, I hope you don't mind my "complimentary" comment, so; Many of our favourite artists bared their heartaches, torment, addictions and loves on their albums. It's like we had to delve into their albums to get "some" understanding of the man/woman. Keep posting everyone - this is going to be one of those "great educator" threads. Thanks Chris. Peter
  13. Because Bobby is my favourite artist I'll have to give his Poet 1 and Poet 2 albums a shout. Poet 1 marked one of Bobby's comebacks from the wilderness. The man really has some extremely diverse and prolific output. Rest in Peace Bobby. Peter Good thread - plenty of new stuff to go at already. Peter
  14. That's a good shout and one I will go with today. My "best" or "favouritisms" move with the sand. Peter
  15. We can be flexible Mickey, good post. Peter
  16. What a group. Just looking at the various line ups is a star studded soul palace. Curtis, absolute genius, Jerry Butler, Leroy Hutson etc. Of course it would be extremely remiss to not mention the groups original members Sam Gooden, and Richard and Arthur Brooks. As has been said too many to single out any particular one. Their contribution to the Black American Rights movement cannot be ignored, nor can their roots, which they kept dear to, in Gospel music. From Tennessee to Chicago, it's proper soul music all the way. Good thread. Peter NB - I seem to recall starting a Curtis Mayfield thread not too long ago, he has (notwithstanding his sad passing) an amazing following on here and most other soul related places.
  17. That's a quality post Alan. I've never seen or heard of that before. Thanks for joining in pal, I hope you're well. Peter
  18. Afternoon All Some of you may know that Bobby is my number one artist; wow he did so much stuff. I'm just playing some of his stuff and his duet with Van Morrison, Peace of Mind, (2015) came to mind, so I played it. Van has that voice that really does go with Bobby. Obviously a phenomenal artist in his own right - someone I came late to due to my silly "soul music" only mindset. That being said Van has a very soulful voice and some of his cuts could be deemed to be soulful, certainly sings the blues. So, probably been done before, but whose your favourite artist, and do you have any unusual duets that they've recorded. Keep it flexible, just post anything that comes to mind, something that you're feeling today perhaps. Over to you; do the best you can. Peter
  19. Rogers Reef(er).
  20. I'm pretty certain that some of the lyrics in that tune are taken from a "mainstream" soul record but can't quite put my finger on it at the moment. Well done Sebastian for naming that tune. Peter Edit - It could be a Gene Chandler record. It may well be of course that Soul Experience was first with the lyrics.
  21. Is there any need for comments like that? You sure can be prickly when you want to be Kev. Peter
  22. pm'd yer mate.
  23. Hi All Thanks to the site I was able to obtain a number for a soul friend I had lost touch with. As a consequence we were able to have a catch up call last night. We've both had some health issues but apart from that we're all good. Keep in touch with your friends if you can. Life is very short. Thanks to Mike and the site for helping to reconnect us.
