  1. Blue Sharks for me - every time, the production is better and I prefer this version. Probably the first of the two that I heard - maybe that's a reason The Blue Sharks always reminds me of Soul Sam and Nev Wherry I love the story behind the Sharks - the name of the group, the up until recently belief that they were unknown Italian's Soul Sam buying his original copy back from someone in Italy so that he could play it at the last Cleethorpes Winter Garden All Dayer I like the Gran Prix label design I have one in my very modest collection. Pete
  2. Because you can't have your cake and eat it! Pete
  3. Never heard that before mate. Nice one thanks. Pete
  4. We did have a thread once where we posted up some pictures of ourselves - obviously very well handpicked! I'm stuck in a time warp - I think everyone still looks like they did back in the early 80's! Pete
  5. Cheers Ted That looks very nice indeed. Easy in my top five "modern" tracks and has stood the test of time for me ever since I first heard Sir Dickie play it at Wigan as Tyrone Edwards. Sold my issue many moons ago and half tempted to get another one since I started collecting again a couple of years ago. Pete
  6. A little self indulgence! That man George - How Can I Get Next To You. Super, super soul with very, very clever lyrics and links to other soul brothers. Got this on a minty white demo - its thing of beauty! Enjoy. Pete
  7. I really like that John - new to me. You generally can't go wrong with George Jackson on the credits - one of my favorite artists ever - he was a real, cool soul man, love all of his stuff. Pete
  8. Never seen one of them Ted. Pete
  9. I keep thinking I might sell up again. A truly modest collection which I only started building again recently having sold up in the 90s.
  10. You posted that in the right thread Mick?
  11. Travelling to all niters was never a problem - hitch hiking, driving or on a coach. Driving your own motor when a bit older was preferable - although not an option when I first when I started out. A nice, slow burn lift into euphoria as your stash kicked in - and then into the ritual of talking complete bollocks until you reached the venue and got on the dance floor - where i stayed all night. Although it is probably worth pointing out that there was never any slow burn if your stash was 3 for £2 blues! The journey home was often a nightmare - paranoid and sick as fcuk depending on you're stash. Having my own car made life far more bearable. As for how far we would travel - who cared, it was part of the ritual. As was breaking down, running out of petrol and having a car with no heating. Them were the days - I think we even had rickets and diphtheria! Pete
  12. Ah, thats lovely mate. Thanks. Pete
  13. Looks lovely Mal. Pete
  14. Yes that's the one. I think there were a few misunderstandings regarding one of the individuals and as a consequence Len closed it.
  15. I can vouch for Rick on that one. Pete
  16. I listen to the Dave Raistrick one later. Dave was the first ever DJ I heard play when I was really young - him being from Skegness and me being (at the time) from Mablethorpe. First time I ever went to Wigan was with Dave in his car. Long drive! Pete
  17. We used to have a thread about different people on the scene. I can't remember what it was called.
  18. The show with Gilly and Tats was was absolutely stunning. Well done guys and thanks for sharing some of those wonderful stories. I think I've listened to it seven times now. Pete
  19. I'm sorry to be picky but you left the grunts out.
  20. Bernie for me. And I like the grunting! Pete
  21. I get stuck in a time warp on SS. I look at friends avatars and ............ I thought you were only 27 Ed. Lol. The Tomangoes handle should have given me a better steer! Pete
  22. New to the thread so not really followed it. I get the Babe Ruth and Worlds Column - massive when I started. Cats Eyes and The Kid - no thanks, always destined for my shite bin - even as a youngster. I remember the dance floor bouncing to So Is The Sun at my very first all nighter - Derby Assembly Rooms circa 1979. I was aided and abetted on the dance floor by my first three for two. I hitch hiked all the way from Mablethorpe, Lincs. Chris King picked us up in the morning onn the A52 and gave us a lift to Nottingham - in his white Mercedes Benz convertible. Happy days. All subjective of course - one mans rubbish is another man's treasure. Pete
  23. Yep thanks Russ - some great photographs. I'm no expert - but I know what I like, and I would put some of my SS friends photographs up with them. We get plenty of "wow" pictures on here. Pete
