The Modern Soul took a back seat whilst Guy and Keb were racketeering through the Stafford Story but Robin is back with some more Modern Magic from the mid 80's.
Hi Chalky
Thanks for the Robin podcast buddy. Just down loaded it - some great memories on this one too.

Cheers Peter. There's actually 30 Backbeats mult-artist comps and 10 Backbeats artist-only comps out now with another 10 multi-artist comps coming in early February - details shortly.
Advance warning: the first 10 Backbeats comps will be coming up for deletion shortly unless we renew 'em, so here's a quick checklist of everything I think:-

Thanks Ian - I'll take a look.

I bought three of the Backbeat cd's recently - can't remember the titles. Two of them were compiled by Sean H - so I knew they'd have some good soul music on and the other was more of a well known sixties fest! I've enjoyed them all and added some new 45's to the collection which I didn't know of before I had the cd's. I'd recommend you pick em up.
So, well done Mr D and Mr H.

If anyone else would like one if these videos of Darrow at the Wilton can you shout up, there's not many left and I don't think I will be doing anymore.
Quality isn't bad, Peter99 will vouch for that as he has watched his already.
I've watched the one with Darrow on - it's professional quality stuff. Chalky only gets the shakes once!
Well worth a tenner - they're top draw. Well done Chalky - again.

Peter, I've got an early christmas present for you (signed)
I wanted Darrow to write "Enjoy the journey" but it was too busy & loud to get my message across to him, so he wrote "best wishes" ,but it is especially for you and that's what counts .
PM me your address fella
Regards

Hi Ali
I can't believe how kind you are - I'm over the moon! I very much look forward to receiving my very special gift.
Thank you so much.

Peter, you've made my day, as when I first discovered Darrow in the mid 80's, I was as excited as you are now about him (you made me smile), and it's brilliant that he's still reaching people.
Want to do all I can to spread his music, and you will love the new cd
Ali x
Ali, I only really knew his big northern 60's 45's from way back in the day. Then over the last few months I've picked up some of his other stuff - via sets from people like Mr Soul Sean Hampsey and perhaps Tats and people like that. All of which I've found via SS and some other sites. I've been blown away by some of his mid tempo 70's stuff - stunning soul music and right where I'm at in terms of style. It's great discovering such quality after all these years. Sounds like yer got good taste too gal!

Secret? What secret?

It's brilliant Peter Don't buy it yet, as I can pick you one up tomorrow at a discounted price.
I'll PM you on Sunday when I've got it, and we can sort out where to send it
Ali x
I was going to suggest one of us get the cd and get it signed for him?
That is so kind of you both - I'm bowled over. Yes, that would be great if one of you has time. We can sort out postage and payment etc if you manage to get one. You've both made my day.
Thanks so much.
Peter

Have you got the new Kent cd Peter?
No mate - can't say I've seen it - don't know why. I'll go and find oneof them now.
Cheers

Leave it with me Peter, I'll see what I can do
Do you want whatever I manage to pick up addressing to Peter99 or simply Peter?
Regards
Ali x
Ah, bless you Ali.
If you do manage to get anything addressed Peter will be just fine - the 99 is just cos all the Peter names were taken on SS. Don't go out of your way though - I was just joking. Fantastic if yer can though.

I will be videoing tomorrow night Peter hopefully, just got to set the recorder up without upsetting anyone. All money made from it will go to Darrow.
You're a top fella Chalky. Put me down for one of whatever is produced. I'd love to be able to buy summat - not like being there obviously but a memento non the less.
Thanks
Peter
-
Not sure Peter, but I'll ask him tomorrow for you
Hi Ali
I've only recently started to listen and learn a bit more about some of the stuff Darrow has recorded - coincidental really with this current visit. The studio clips on this thread have added an extra dimension of interest.
So, if you could just pick me something up tomorrow - preferably that the man has signed we'll be even bigger buddies.
Thanks
Peter
-
Are any recordings of Darrow's recent live sets available to buy?
Thanks
Peter
-
Amazing stuff - really clever.
Peter
-
Fcuk, how cool is this. Great stuff and so interesting.
Peter
-
Very sorry to hear that too. Mr Callier had a very special kind of relationship with the people who enjoyed both his music and him as a person.
Peter

Here you go pal, posted on the Keb cover up topic...
Cheers mate.
-
I can vaguely remember the record but can't remember who it is.
I think it is Dave T playing at this point, sure he starts off where I stopped with the track listing.
I've asked dave what it is, will get back when he answers.
Cheers mate. It's funny how our memory deceives us - I thought it sounded like Pat's voice with Dave's records. LOL
Peter
-
I'm not sure mate, I've only done track list so far for he first 45 minutes or so. Where in the file is it, time wise?
It's at about 56.40 - I think its Pat sounds like him and his set from back then. Haven't a clue about the version of Alfie Davidson but I think Im starting to remember it existed.
-
Another live recording for you, this time from Stafford late 1983, Pat Brady, dave Thorley & Keb.
Thanks Mr Chalky!
Bloody hell - forgot all about that Love Is Serious Business cover - I think. Who was that? Was it Dave playing that or Pat - yep it's Pat I think. Sorry, mate, so many questions!
Cheers

Sad news Roburt. Thanks for the information - you are very knowledgeable about lots of stuff. Sounds like Cecil and Linda really returned to their roots - quite poignant.
Cheers
