  1. Massive spin at Notts Oddfellows niter in Leicester - probably circa 1984. If memory serves me right it was the shamed vicar.
  2. Great stuff. Looks like they’re all best pals. thanks Pete
  3. Nice pics Johnny. It would be great to have a few pics of your dogs. thanks Pete
  4. I am crazy! Although having said that I rarely play my vinyl these days - easier to blast my stuff out via my iphone and decent headphones.
  5. How good is this? Gil Scott Heron - In the Bottle live. Pete
  6. Hard to dislike this Dave. I was never a huge fan of Guys 60's newies stuff - but this is a barnstormer of a dance record. Love it. Pete
  7. One has to be fairly smart before embarking on a tad of sarcasm.
  8. David and the Giants was a very popular record at one time. It has nothing to do with soul music though. As Dave said, back in the day people would dance to anything - cos most people were off their heads on amphetamines.
  9. Look if you're into half the crap that was played under the banner of "northern" that's your prerogative - it wasn't soul music thought was it.
  10. Absolutely Pete. In the Bottle is a fantastic soul record - to try and label it as "Northern" is sheer music folly. Gil's is one of contemporary musics finest writers, producers, performers and poets. A real superstar of music and black american rights. Right up their with the best. Pete
  11. I mend shoes. What a load of cobblers.
  12. It would be good to maybe post up a title or little poem for some of the great pictures that are very inspirational. Would that ruin the thread? Russ - its your thread, what do you think? If that was a goer we could restrict it to serious words/poems, and only have one per picture - the first person to post up bags it? Any views - maybe a separate thread where we could copy the pictures across with a caption/short poem. What does everyone think? Pete
  13. TFFT! That's not a trumpet on its own at the beginning - well not to these cloth ears! Pete
  14. Just because someone dislikes one particular record cannot, and does not mean, that they don’t know the meaning of northern soul. It’s a silly thing to say. Just because I don’t like Pukka pies does not mean that I don’t know what a pie is.
  15. That's a silly thing to say, and obviously rubbish.
  16. £175 On discogs. 😲
  17. I don’t have a fancy set up at all. Technics separates - amp, deck, CD player etc, ploughed through some old JVC speakers. All very entry level, old kit - they were my mums who passed away 14 years ago. I miss my mum - it would have been her birthday today. What is really cool is that my mum had an awesome Technics released cd - jazz and modern soul. I’ll go and find it in a minute - had some awesome soul on it including Ike Noble etc. Here you go - awesome track list. https://www.discogs.com/Various-Music-Lovers-Choice-Vol-5-Modern-Soul-Jazz/release/5189424 Pete
  18. Certainly one to look out for. I emailed Richard about the progress a few years back and it was still a way off. I’d like to read it for sure. As Sam Cook said, It’s Been a Long Time Coming ................... but...........,,.,.,
  19. Teddy Pendergrass's first two albums - and lots of his others. P
  20. Great list Josep For some reason it reminded me of this - Mr Dimples Where do you live by the way? Pete
