David and the Giants was a very popular record at one time. It has nothing to do with soul music though.
As Dave said, back in the day people would dance to anything - cos most people were off their heads on amphetamines.
Absolutely Pete. In the Bottle is a fantastic soul record - to try and label it as "Northern" is sheer music folly.
Gil's is one of contemporary musics finest writers, producers, performers and poets. A real superstar of music and black american rights. Right up their with the best.

It would be good to maybe post up a title or little poem for some of the great pictures that are very inspirational. Would that ruin the thread? Russ - its your thread, what do you think? If that was a goer we could restrict it to serious words/poems, and only have one per picture - the first person to post up bags it?
Any views - maybe a separate thread where we could copy the pictures across with a caption/short poem. What does everyone think?

Just because someone dislikes one particular record cannot, and does not mean, that they don’t know the meaning of northern soul. It’s a silly thing to say.
Just because I don’t like Pukka pies does not mean that I don’t know what a pie is.
I don’t have a fancy set up at all. Technics separates - amp, deck, CD player etc, ploughed through some old JVC speakers. All very entry level, old kit - they were my mums who passed away 14 years ago. I miss my mum - it would have been her birthday today.
What is really cool is that my mum had an awesome Technics released cd - jazz and modern soul. I’ll go and find it in a minute - had some awesome soul on it including Ike Noble etc.
Here you go - awesome track list.

Certainly one to look out for. I emailed Richard about the progress a few years back and it was still a way off. I’d like to read it for sure. As Sam Cook said, It’s Been a Long Time Coming ................... but...........,,.,.,
He’s twenty from my extremely humble collection – OVO O. Some are album only. I’m toying with the idea of selling up again – they’re all in cardboard boxes. In no order; (apart from my ender Charlie!)

Yep I know it was a big spin back in the day. As you say someone obviously wanted it pretty badly.
Mm, something just struck me. I wonder if people collect vinyl for tv/film soundtracks and if they do what sort of prices/market is there?
Im going to start a new thread in freebasing!
Why would anyone want that? I wouldn’t give you four bob for it. It’s shite - it’s pushing it a bit to define it as northern soul, yet alone soul.
Horrible, nasty thing.
