A youth culture left in the hands of old men'
The soul scene for many was a dance scene, not everyone, but I would suggest a majority. Holly St James is never going to be a soul record - I'm purposely not using the term "northern", but it is a fantastic, atmospheric, dance record, particularly so for the majority of attendees, who were off their faces on amphetamine. It is a record that I still like hearing. Pete

Evening Steve Yes, I'm ok mate thanks. I hope all is good with you and Lou. I enjoyed the photo thread - I'm pretty sure that I remember seeing you about back in the day. The old picture of you with a tash, looks very familiar. Pete

A youth culture left in the hands of old men'
The youths of today haven't got a clue. They're taking the wrong drugs - ecstasy and charlie wont sustain an all nighter scene, they're rubbish. They need to get some proper gear like base amphetamine down em.

Show Us Your Great Photos (2018)
I think they’re actually very nice. Wouldn’t want them in the house though. I had one living in a huge pile of rubble outside my back door once. It was in the winter and I became aware of it after hearing strange noises at the back door at night for about a week. I finally noticed that something had chewed a huge hole through the wooden weather board at the bottom of the back door. In the spring we filled two skips with the rubble - after nearly a mornings work, down to the last couple of barrow fulls, Mr Rat jumped off my mates shovel and scampered off. He was the size of a rabbit! Pete

Yep that’s a proper record. Full on stomper? I’m not so sure about that. It’s one of those records that I always did that posy, lazy walkabout dance style to. Stomper type stuff was never really my bag. Pete

Ike Strong - "Your Love Keeps Me Dancing"
I think the True Image version is Ike Stong and a band. I could be wrong. apologies Chalky I didn’t see you beat me to the Butch find.

Ike Strong - "Your Love Keeps Me Dancing"
Yep Curtis was a mega record - still love. Also two versions - with or without the disco bongos. It’s never straight forward is it. Managed to get a bingo one some years ago before prices went from mad to bad!

Ike Strong - "Your Love Keeps Me Dancing"
Wow. There’s also the mega rare alternative version with the different chorus. A Butch find and a topic previously discussed on SS.

Yes I think it was Richard at last days of Wigan. It was also a massive record for him, and others, at Clifton Hall. It was one of those modern anthems for me back then. I don’t think it’s rare but it doesn’t come up often - I don’t yhink you’ll get one for less than £200. Youre calling out some good records Stubbsy. Pete

I never said it wasn’t a factor. But 95% of the attendees were not dancing all night on beer.

I suspect it was coke Pete. Now, look into my eyes, look into my eyes. 😳

The rise of the 'NEW' soulie and the soul revolution.
Mm. I’m not sure things have progressed now beer is everyone’s poison. I don’t see how that can in any way be better than what drove the scene in the old days.

1975 Cleethorpes Pier Allnighter
MVPS was as you know a massive Cleethorpes record, so it’s as good a guess as any. One of the coolest things about that clip was the whirring of those reels of film. Nice one Mike.

Georgia Blues is a great track too.

There was nothing veiled about my comment about your time on the scene - it included the word supposition and ended with a question mark. I suspect that you could call me Johnny Come Lately - but your lately would be subject to the same time warp. It was over forty years ago. 😉

The rise of the 'NEW' soulie and the soul revolution.
One thing is for sure. This thread has been very cathartic for some - I’ve never seen such a collection of lengthy posts. Exorcism of the devil! 😝

It sounds to me that you’re stuck in a time warp. No time for records you don’t know, no time for new faces and all based on memories from nearly 50 years ago. It also sounds like your stint on the scene which ended in 1975 was quite a short one. Of course that could be entirely supposition on my part.
