  1. Look if you're into half the crap that was played under the banner of "northern" that's your prerogative - it wasn't soul music thought was it.
  2. Absolutely Pete. In the Bottle is a fantastic soul record - to try and label it as "Northern" is sheer music folly. Gil's is one of contemporary musics finest writers, producers, performers and poets. A real superstar of music and black american rights. Right up their with the best. Pete
  3. It would be good to maybe post up a title or little poem for some of the great pictures that are very inspirational. Would that ruin the thread? Russ - its your thread, what do you think? If that was a goer we could restrict it to serious words/poems, and only have one per picture - the first person to post up bags it? Any views - maybe a separate thread where we could copy the pictures across with a caption/short poem. What does everyone think? Pete
  4. TFFT! That's not a trumpet on its own at the beginning - well not to these cloth ears! Pete
  5. Just because someone dislikes one particular record cannot, and does not mean, that they don’t know the meaning of northern soul. It’s a silly thing to say. Just because I don’t like Pukka pies does not mean that I don’t know what a pie is.
  6. That's a silly thing to say, and obviously rubbish.
  7. I don’t have a fancy set up at all. Technics separates - amp, deck, CD player etc, ploughed through some old JVC speakers. All very entry level, old kit - they were my mums who passed away 14 years ago. I miss my mum - it would have been her birthday today. What is really cool is that my mum had an awesome Technics released cd - jazz and modern soul. I’ll go and find it in a minute - had some awesome soul on it including Ike Noble etc. Here you go - awesome track list. https://www.discogs.com/Various-Music-Lovers-Choice-Vol-5-Modern-Soul-Jazz/release/5189424 Pete
  8. Certainly one to look out for. I emailed Richard about the progress a few years back and it was still a way off. I’d like to read it for sure. As Sam Cook said, It’s Been a Long Time Coming ................... but...........,,.,.,
  9. Teddy Pendergrass's first two albums - and lots of his others. P
  10. Great list Josep For some reason it reminded me of this - Mr Dimples Where do you live by the way? Pete
  11. Thanks Neal I play what I like and I like what I bloody well play! (needs to be spoken in a yorkshire accent) Pete
  12. He’s twenty from my extremely humble collection – OVO O. Some are album only. I’m toying with the idea of selling up again – they’re all in cardboard boxes. In no order; (apart from my ender Charlie!) · Wake up and live – James Brown · I can’t make it anymore – Richie Havens · These Things – Blue Sharks · Rules – Gil Blanding · What’s it Gonna be – Sam Dees · Take The Weight Off Me - Jackie Ross · Come Get To This - Marvin Gaye · Get To Me - Luther Ingram · This Love Is Real - The Lovelites · Georgia Blue – Joe Simon · I'm Afraid Of Losing You- Quiet Elegance · The Beginning Of My Life - The Chimes · Love Don't Come No Stronger - Jeff Perry · Got To Find Ms. Right – Buddy Miles (awesome track) · Brick Grits – Betty Wright · How Can I Get Next To You – George Jackson · Just Loving You - Garland Green · Tried and Convicted – Bobby Womack · Just Be Yourself – Pretenders · You Fooled Me – Lou Roberts · It’s All Over – Charles Mann Pete
  13. Nice record - dont see too many for sale. Happy New Year mate. Pete
  14. Yep, its a record that I like. Plenty about - cheap, but mostly vgs. Some on discogs now. Pete
  15. Yep I know it was a big spin back in the day. As you say someone obviously wanted it pretty badly. Mm, something just struck me. I wonder if people collect vinyl for tv/film soundtracks and if they do what sort of prices/market is there? Im going to start a new thread in freebasing!
  16. Why would anyone want that? I wouldn’t give you four bob for it. It’s shite - it’s pushing it a bit to define it as northern soul, yet alone soul. Horrible, nasty thing.
  17. Not much beats Al Wilson, one of my favourite artists. But Johnny Deans cover of Ive Got A Feeling does it for me. Love this label design too. Bought this off Pat Brady early 80’s
  18. Bollox. I was going to suggest that.

    Discatron Revisited!

With regards to colour got to be Bakerlite cream?
  20. Nah. I diasagree. But that’s just me. Putting it out there that someone is a potential thief just ain’t cricket. Anyway, I’ve made my point and won’t post any further comments on this thread.
