Brilliant mate, thanks for sharing that. A fantastic artist - one of the best in my opinion, a super vocalist.
He's buried in the same cemetery as my dear mum - I can imagine his voice whispering through the trees, down the hilly cemetery. Me mum would like that.

I agree - Pat was up there with the best in the 80's - mixing oldies, 60's newies and modern side by side. He used to have a half decent review section in Black Echoes too - early 80's.

Good luck buddy. Hope you can make it pay in these tough times. Are you the same Lee who runs this website - https://www.rarenorthernsoul.com/ - just curious.

Some nice words from Tony Rounce as he remembers George.....
Yep, saw that Chalky. Must have been great to have met the man.
Peter
-
Thank you, Peter!
It really was a sad moment to find out about George's passing. He gave the impression of a very nice and laid-back guy, and you relaxed with him... on the phone, too.
Hi Heikki
I have read a few bits about George and there is very much a consensus on him being unassuming, laid back and friendly. It is sad that he has gone but we can continue to enjoy and celebrate is wonderful musical legacy. I also love some of the photographs I have seen of him over the years - he is one cool, southern american dude! I even liked that southern drawl of his - proper soul talk.
George will continue to be the man!

Hi!

Tony Rounce's reminiscence of George including a moment that will live with me for ever - our meeting with George, which included him getting up and singing a previously unknown song for us.
Thanks for that link Dean.

One I've been spinning for the last few years. Absolutely love this - stunning soul music. Wonderful lyrics as he pays tribute to Bobby Womack, Al Green, James Brown and Marvin - clever stuff. I suspect he wrote a few of those.
Peter
-
George's southern accent just oozed soul - even when he was just speaking. He was one hell of a cool guy. I love some of the pictures of him which have been used over the years - even in his senior years he was the man!

The Great George Jackson has sadly passed RIP and thanks for the music
One of my favourite writers, producers and performers - by miles. Sad news indeed. Thank you George for your wonderful legacy.
You opened up my heart Sir.

Some fantastic stories and memories of Mr Britt - it must have been a wonderful experience for those people who met him. He sounds like a real gentleman. It is indeed sad that he has passed away - but what a legacy he leaves behind. Thousands of people will have danced to his record(s) - and many more will continue to dance to, listen to and love his wonderful music.
I'll make a toast to you Sir, Mr Mel Britt - and turn up the volume.
Peter
-
Pleasure Robin, glad you are enjoying the whole Story. Sorry about the pics they were about the best from the time I could find
I've not seen and dodgy pics.

I seen this on Southern Soul forum, very sad, Great singer, seen them live twice and thought they were fantastic, fantastic voices and they also wrote some great songs. Hard to believe but track below was played at all nighters back when it came out.
Nice post Jocko. I love some of these vids showing tracks being recorded - it highlights all the skill and all of the different people involved.
Thanks
Peter
