  1. Reading one of the threads about the early eighties got me thinking again about one of things that disappointed me about the modern scene - sort of 79 through to 85. There was such an appetite for new stuff back then - and the big all night venues to break them in, that loads and loads of new stuff was played for a very short time, and then discarded to make way for more quality tunes. My personal view is that we "lost" some real soul treasure in those years - in terms of stuff getting plays. If we compare the old northern scene - where many of us began - old gits, stuff that was big was played for years and years and years. I think one of the reasons why so many of us embraced the new scene when the big split came - Richard, Sam, Arthur etc. I know this isn;t a new question but should there be an "oldies" modern scene so that we can keep alive some of those "discarded" treasures? I know Sam and others do some great 70's sets - but can't help think we lost a lot of toons!
  2. In Her Own Way - prince phillip mitchell - ichiban Richard - really like this.
  3. Yep - like this. Arthur always spins soul Peter
  4. Hi Mike et al I have a remix of this track on a sony cd - which I think is even more soulful! I found the cd in my mothers cd rack after she passed away! I'll have to dig it out - I seem to recall that one side is classic jaz - and the other has some wonderful soul tracks on. Has anyone else heard the remix or seen the cd? Peter
  5. Sean Ooops - nearly forgot. I haven't seen or heard from Eric for over ten years. I hope he's ok - he was a nice guy. Take care mate. Peter
  6. Hi Sean Eric was from near Grantham. He used to knock around with the crowd from Lincoln in the mid to late seventies - which is how I met him. We used to do the Derby Assembly Rooms all nighters - where I started my all nighter career! I'm originally from Mablethorpe in Lincs - I've lived in Nottingham for the last 14 years. I still get to the odd all nighter. Eric and I used to chat quite a bit to you and Steve etc. Do you remember the time Crofty gave him his first all nighter DJ spot at Clifton Hall - Eric had quite an apetite for comestables at the time and had clearly gone over the top. I don't think Crofty was best pleased!! Peter
  7. Hi Sean - and everyone else whose kept this theme going Great reading your column from the early 80's again. Cleethorpes (ii) was a wicked place to hear new sounds - along with Clifton Hall and the latter days of the Casino. As you say the dancers were well up for it - myself included. You mentioned Eric - who was a good friend at the time. Halcyon days. Thanks for the memories. Peter
