  1. Hi Steve Some great tracks listed there. Some of the stuff you wanted to hear in the main room at the Winter Gardens made it. There was always more than a few of us who wanted to hear the same stuff. You should have given us a shout the night you were "offered outside" - we would have been too pissed to help but would have shouted encouragement and waived a stick on your behalf! Will you be there for the last do on the 3rd? Pete
  2. Yes nice track mate. I'm still trying to work out how to upload stuff! Thick Pete
  3. Despite some strong views on this one it;s good to read the supportive posts of PeteS and Playfair - nice one guys. The differing views simply remind us all of the shared passion we have for the music - long may it continue. We're all in this together. We do need to be encouraging to each other - we all got soul! (We might not have all the soul we want in our boxes - but it's sure in our hearts.)
  4. The list does seem endless! I think we have lists of lists of lists...................which is great. It seemed just a simple, straightforward thread - what as I created? Some really good stuff has come out of it though.
  5. Paul Just off down to TK Max! That is amusing. Shall we say it's a damn good pop record!
  6. I know this morning sounds like one long sales pitch from me, but I do have a few of this. But I put it up cuz I think it is that good. I might have just bought into that morning long sales pitch! If you can remember to pop one in yer bag for the March Soulshakers do I'd appreciate it. Peter

  8. Not heard the CD Dave - some nice stuff on there. Cheers Peter
  9. Some great stuff there guy's - both in terms of posts and some of the track listings! Peter
  10. Dave You are right - it should be about quality, plain and simple. I'm not sure that's always the case though. Incidentally - your do at Solihull in March looks quality - I'll certainly drag myself out of retirement for that one! Cheers Peter
  11. Simon I think we have the same ears! I think you're right. I have to be careful as I don;t get out and about as much as I used to and should - but I think a lot of the new release stuff getting plays lacks that real killer soul touch - which is what has always set our scene apart. Certainly so if you compare them to some of the stuff that has been discarded. I don't know Simon - are we running out of undiscovered 70s and 80's tunes. Have we given up looking, and instead opt to go with newly released stuff. That's not to say of course that newly released stuff isn't any good - some of it clearly is, and warrants getting spins. Perhaps I'm just a purist old git - stuck in the 70's and 80's. Now I seem to have heard that before - circa 1979 at Wigan!!!!
  12. Hi Mark I wouldn't want an oldies modern scene at the expense of any new stuff - obviously we need to be progressive - which is what the modern scene is all about. I guess I'm not sure what I want !! Perhaps I'm simply trying to say that I think there are some huge, huge modern tunes that have never had the playing longevity of the traditional 60's northern scene - because of the progressive nature of the music I - we prefer. Which I think is a shame given the quality of some of the stuff that was unearthed and played.
  13. Reading one of the threads about the early eighties got me thinking again about one of things that disappointed me about the modern scene - sort of 79 through to 85. There was such an appetite for new stuff back then - and the big all night venues to break them in, that loads and loads of new stuff was played for a very short time, and then discarded to make way for more quality tunes. My personal view is that we "lost" some real soul treasure in those years - in terms of stuff getting plays. If we compare the old northern scene - where many of us began - old gits, stuff that was big was played for years and years and years. I think one of the reasons why so many of us embraced the new scene when the big split came - Richard, Sam, Arthur etc. I know this isn;t a new question but should there be an "oldies" modern scene so that we can keep alive some of those "discarded" treasures? I know Sam and others do some great 70's sets - but can't help think we lost a lot of toons!
  14. In Her Own Way - prince phillip mitchell - ichiban Richard - really like this.
  15. Yep - like this. Arthur always spins soul Peter
  16. Hi Mike et al I have a remix of this track on a sony cd - which I think is even more soulful! I found the cd in my mothers cd rack after she passed away! I'll have to dig it out - I seem to recall that one side is classic jaz - and the other has some wonderful soul tracks on. Has anyone else heard the remix or seen the cd? Peter
  17. Sean Ooops - nearly forgot. I haven't seen or heard from Eric for over ten years. I hope he's ok - he was a nice guy. Take care mate. Peter
  18. Hi Sean Eric was from near Grantham. He used to knock around with the crowd from Lincoln in the mid to late seventies - which is how I met him. We used to do the Derby Assembly Rooms all nighters - where I started my all nighter career! I'm originally from Mablethorpe in Lincs - I've lived in Nottingham for the last 14 years. I still get to the odd all nighter. Eric and I used to chat quite a bit to you and Steve etc. Do you remember the time Crofty gave him his first all nighter DJ spot at Clifton Hall - Eric had quite an apetite for comestables at the time and had clearly gone over the top. I don't think Crofty was best pleased!! Peter
  19. Hi Sean - and everyone else whose kept this theme going Great reading your column from the early 80's again. Cleethorpes (ii) was a wicked place to hear new sounds - along with Clifton Hall and the latter days of the Casino. As you say the dancers were well up for it - myself included. You mentioned Eric - who was a good friend at the time. Halcyon days. Thanks for the memories. Peter
