  1. And Pikeys!
  2. Cos us northerners are too scared to go south! I agree about the mix Bearsy
  3. Hey Barry I do like your drunken ramblings! My answer would be a nighter that plays a truly cross section of music - from underplayed quality 60r's through to refreshing, quality new releases. As long as it's good quality soul music. All in one room so that everyone could unite behind the music. Perhaps I'm living in a soul utopia! Best Peter
  4. Hypocrisy? Perhaps a little maybe. I think this is far out weighed by the passion that people have for the music and those mainly unsung and unrecognised artists that have brought us the music we love. Most of whom would have lived their lives and passed away without any recognition for their work. There's a genuine love of these people - I would say affection, but I believe it goes way beyond that, and the music they have brought us. I feel privelidged to be a tiny part of this music scene - and a certain affinity with many of these people. I know the majority of NS people share this. It's not a one sided love affair either - just look at the many artists who have been tracked down in the states over the years. Many had no idea of the passion that existed for their music - many had been forced out of the industry due to little or no success. I don't know of many of these artists who have been unhappy at discovering just how much we value their often small, but not insignificant, contribution. I may have missed the point - but I like many others have enjoyed the special relationship I feel that I have had with these unsung heroes. It has brought me much pleasure over the years - and I know that is shared by a great number of the artists too.
  5. Boo! How are you? Yes - we used to meet up with the Notts crew here before heading off for nighters in the early 80's. The usual motley crew - shippo - God bless him, curly, pickles et al. Also a geezer from Clifton who had a little girl - can never remember his name though! Obviously you must have been there - I'm not sure if I know you!?I'm pretty sure Byrney would have been there and can probably add more than me. We used to travel from Lincolnshire at the time although I've lived in Notts for 18 years now. Peter
  6. Nice one Mike!
  7. Hi Doc thanks for the good wishes. It would be great if you could get me a copy - and it would be nice to have it signed! I'll pm you my details. Unfortunately I won't be out and about for a few months but am well on the mend. Thanks mate. Peter
  8. I seem to recall a couple of his records getting played - I think Tony is correct on his post, but can't remember the others. A lot of his stuff has a bit of a soul edge to it - particularly some of the intros. Not sure any of em are worth anything - they were mass produced weren't they.
  9. Hi Everyone I ordered Reg's book from Amazon back in October and it still hasn't arrived. I've been ill since then and haven't been able to check my amazon account on my other computer at work. Has anyone else had a problem? Thanks peter
  10. I agree there are some great sixties tunes that should be reactivated too - as many of you have said already not the same old same old stuff. Take a listen to Pat Brady and Gary Rushbrookes 1980 wigan sets posted up earlier - there's some great stuff on there that could do with being spun again.
  11. I understand mate.
  12. Those are exactly the tunes that I mean Simon - stuff that only got a little air time cos there was so much quality stuff about. I've forgotten hundreds of similar tunes - it's easier to recall some of the bigger tunes that were played for a little longer.
  13. On a serious note Bearsy - I'm sure I read on some thread somewhere that you'd spun a few seventies or even eighties items? Have you any particular favourites? You can pm if you don't want to come out!
  14. Not sure I recall this one Simon - I've just had a play and it's a from me!
  15. Some of my choices would be Brothers Gilmore - I feel A Song Tony Fox - Love, Let Love and be Loved Tower of Power - So Very Hard Bobby Hutton - Wanting You, Needing You Just a few favourites of mine
  16. I knew I could rely on you Simon.
  17. I hear you've been spinning a bit of moderrn recently Bearsy. Well done.
  18. Just to be a pain - and I know we've done this before cos I started it, but....................... never mind the reactivation of oldies. How's about reactivating some of the hundreds of modern tunes that saw the light of day - or night, for a very brief spell in the 80's.
  19. I agree with your take on this Russ.
  20. Yep you're right Belly! The Glen I mentioned was Glen Unwin. I seem to recall that we managed to drag em to one of the Cleethorpes all nighters - but I could be wrong! Twas a long time ago.
  21. Aha - Dave Lindley! I used to know him quite well - he spent quite a bit of time in Mablethorpe when I lived there. He used to knock around with Glen (can't remember his surname at the minute) and another tall blond haired lad.
  22. Cracking tune in my opinion. Haven't heard it for years.
  23. Hey Barry! Your posts always make me smile mate! Did you replace your Lucky Davies? If you didn't and you still want one for the memories pm me. I've got a copy that you can have gratis cos you make me smile and I like yer drunken fooking ramblings!
  24. Hi Byrney I remember this one too. I seem to recall the opposition being a group of skins who started everything off by shouting racist bullshit? It was the same night that someone undid the wheel nuts on me Ford Cappreeee Ghia!
