I'm not sure if I know Micky - perhaps from back in the day. That matters not though - I am genuinely saddened to hear that he has passed away. However, what a tribute the man has received from his friends on Soul Source - he was obviously a very kind man who was loved by many, many people. Condolences to his family. Peter
  2. I agree. It's a great soul record. Peter

It's a very nice record. Peter
  4. I emailed Richard via his website last year to enquire about any progress - as Steve G says, Richard has been talking about it for a few years. I seem to recall him saying that he was hoping to make a start/had done a bit of research for it. As has been said it would be a top read from a man who has great taste in soul music and really set the bar. Peter
  5. Yes it is - super, super soul music. New to me too. Nice one. Peter
  6. Blimey, how tragic. I'm really sorry to hear that. Peter
  7. The Mashed Potato - Gene Chandler There Was a Time from memory. But I could have heard it all wrong and made it all up! Long, long time ago! Peter
  8. Smiffy agree? You must be joking. Sorry Pete - it had to be done! LOL Peter
  9. I was going to ask that Kev. I don't understand/know much about stuff like this so thanks for the reply John. It's as simple as a thing like that? Some fcuk up isn't it. I wonder what that costs in terms of not recouping what anyone has paid out to get it to market? What a shame - a whole project ruined. well I guess it is? I meant to copy Kev R into this - bugger messed up. Kev R - any more details information? Cheers P
  10. Hi Russ Jerry Butler"Ž— Iceman - The Mercury Years double cd - a few on amazon but not cheap. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000001DUG/ref=tmm_acd_used_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&condition=used Peter
  11. It's an epic fecking journey by any mode of transport! Not so bad now with the Lincoln and Newark by passes. Havind said that I haven't been back for years - the nearest I go now is Lincoln to see my brother. Back in the day - before the Newark by pass, on our way to either Nottingham, Derby or Leics we had a regular habit of stopping at the Newark Little Chef for a last eat and brew of the weekend before necking our gear - anywhere between 10 and 11 pm. Peter
  12. And you lot are much older of course. Me, I'm Peter fecking Pan! Peter
  13. You boys play some good stuff up there - might have to get mesen out later this year and pay a visit. Nice choices. Peter
  14. I used to thumb if from Mablethorpe in my very early days - soon got mesen a car! It was ok thumbing it to the niter - looking forward to etc. It was another thumbing it back - tired, paranoid and on a bad come down. I remember thumbing it to Derby - probably assembly rooms. In the morning Chris King picked me and my mate up and dropped us in Nottingham. I didn't know who Chris was then other than a dj who had been on at the niter. Chris had a white mercedes sports car and bollocked me mate for slamming the doors. We felt so shit and down we ended up trying to sleep on some benches at Nottingham train station. We were "rescued" by three northern soul lads from the Meadows - hardly knew them really. One was Vernon - who has recenly joined SS. Anyway one of the lads took us back to his house and his mam put us up for the night and fed us - not much of an appetite but got summat down! We were back on our slighty merrier way the day after. They were good lads them three - they dropped off the niter scene pretty soon after that I think. Made lots of mates with the Nottingham lads and lasses - some of them are on here. We used to travel a bit with them on buses I seem to recall. Used to meet up in the King John pub by Broad Marsh station. I remember driving Shippo - Alan might have been there too, home from Mablethorpe one dark winters night. No heater in the car it was fecking freezing - had hot water bottles and blankets! Them were days. Peter
  15. It has a very good groove indeed Richard. Maybe not too high on tempo but this is a great dance record with style. In my very humble opinion of course. Peter
  16. Some cheap records in that lot - no wonder lots of quick sales and trolley dashes. Peter
  17. Cheers Richard Some classic stuff. I seem to recall that my next door neighbour gave me this album and some motown albums about twenty years ago - I'll go and dust em off at some point. I think Wilson Pickett is a tad under rated. Peter
  18. I've got that somwehere. Haven't a clue what's on it. Peter
  19. Sorry - couldn't resist it. Played them so much I still know all the lyrics. Peter
  20. I was well into the smooth philly sound of the Stylistics - bought a few of there albums in the 70's before I was into soul proper like. Of course I didn't know what the philly sound was back then. Wow! Them boys could sing. Peter
