  1. Hi everyone I hope I didn't read this on another thread - I'm a bit forgetful and mixed up at the moment; but, I recently read that legendary Philly stalwarts Gamble and Huff recently said that Teddy was the most composite, complete all round singer they had ever worked with. Given the many, many top vocalists that they worked with that is some accolade. I loved Teddy's work, I still do even though he's no longer with us. His album Getting Ready for Teddy was one of the first soul albums I ever bought. His work with Harold Melvin was also top class - not many non soul people knew it was Teddy on lead vocals for most of HM's biggest hits. Again,. not many "non soul" people know that Lenny Henry's impersonation of a bearded, loved up singer on his old tv show, was based on Teddy. I love that sweet Philly sound - a sound that started my soul journey in 1976. Here's one of my favourite Teddy songs; Thanks for reading, sending my lurve to all of my soul source friends. Peter
  2. Good thread Tigger Some interesting posts and response's - much more to come I suspect. Come on guys get posting. Any people from the Lincolnshire coast (where I originally come from) involved at the Twisted Wheel, whose still spinning records. I'm not hijacking your post tigger , just prompting a bit more information. Peter
  3. That's very cool Mike. I hope you're well my friend. Peter
  4. Hi Kev Thanks for this. I'm going to give it a go now. Peter
  5. Ah, Cleethorpes, my old stomping ground. I was engaged to a girl from Humberstone back in the day. I did the Pier and the Winter Gardens. My nephew lives in Cleethorpes. We may know each other - well we do now anyway. It's really good to have you here. Work your way through some of the forums - everyone is friendly and very accepting of new members. Peter
  6. Put them up in record sales - mods will advise. Welcome to the board - people will be interested in your records and will be positive. Good to have you here - my names Peter - forget the 99 it's a long story. What's your name? I just got my 18 year member badge. It's a great place - -just dive in. don't me shy, we need new members. All the best. Peter
  7. Not genuine perhaps; but, it's a nice looking disc. There are some very good looking carvers. Valueless, but a nice thing all the same. Please post some other stuff up - if you're selling your collection you might do better on here than with dicogs. Go on @Anothergirlx
  8. Just catching up and I've run out of likes; but I like lots of the contributions. Well done guys. Peter no likes left.
  9. Exactly - I collected, and love soul music. So that's two spot on's, if you get my drift. Peter
  10. One of my favourite oldies which I got hooked on when I started going to all niters in about 1978. Peter
  11. I've run out of likes, so, I concur with Chalky and Mal C. Some nice tunes added by fellow SS members. Just to repeat myself, the awful Lou Pride thing, is neither modern, crossover, or a newie. It will be interesting to see where we go with this one...................... Yours Cloth eared Peter
  12. Of course my friend; we all have different tastes and opinions. It could be an interesting thread with all sorts of ideas and records being posted. Thank you very much for your kind words, I appreciate your sentiments, thank you. Just to reciprocate, I hope all is well with you and yours. Peter
  13. I never understand why England, as a team, packed with quality players, always perform so badly. Just an opinion on a thread I haven't followed. Surely England vs Switzerland, has got to be a home banker; or have Switzerland become a good team in my not having had my eye on the ball. Excuse the pun. Peter
  14. Wow! Some work has gone into producing that introductory and opening post; thanks Roburt. Very interesting. Peter
  15. Now, Lou Pride's, I'm Com'un......................... I know I'll get lynched for this, but; there's a record I just don't like. Modern, mm, I think we're veering off course? Tin Hat Peter
  16. Wow! You got some user name there..................... Do you have a first name that you're willing to share; I'm Peter, the "99" tag has probably been almost a twenty year SS member user name tag. I think Mike thought I looked like a tea bag. Mm' funny that. Anyway, I digress. It might be really helpful if you look through the recent "most expensive/rare modern soul" thread. I'll try and find it for you Para bloke. Yours Tea Bag Pete Sorry pal I can't find it, but; Mike or one of the mods, will I'm sure find it.
  17. Hi Kirsty How are you? All good I hope. You're a lot cleverer than me - subgenre, etc.
  18. Gladys is definitely the finest female vocalist to have graced our ears and entertained us. Took a long time for this dumbass to realise, but hey, I got there in the end. Immense talent. Peter
  19. I've not been on for a bit again - I've been unwell again. So, I hope all of my friends on here; that's you - everyone, are doing ok. Peter
  20. It don't make me happy! Sorry, but that's awful; from every perspective. Martin wouldn't have touched that with a barge pole, I can't think of anyone who would have played that. LSD or perhaps a magic mushroom fest! Drop it on the floor perhaps.
  21. Hello Simon I just posted one. I also watched a good Brazilian series - I'll go and find the title. I hope you are all good my friend. El Pedro of; well, all over really.
  22. I might be a bit late to this but: has Snowfall on iplayer, BBC2 been mentioned yet? I'm just watching season 1 and I'm enjoying it - quality acting and varied story line, with a sound LA culture airing. I caught the end of a Bobby Womack track - just a few seconds in a scene, followed by Teddy Pendergrass, most of his "The whole town..................". I think the Bobby track was "That's the way I feel about cha". Peter BBC iPlayer - Snowfall
  23. I'm too thick! Peter
  24. I originally thought that the thread was about newbies to SS rather than the "scene" itself. I'm never going to be a fan of the so called "flash" dancing sessions that pop up all over the place. There's the geezer - I think his name is John, who wears the huge baggies, which are half way up his legs, who dances at various places, including Blackpool seafront I think. It's just not right, contrived, and attention seeking, I would say "well their just having fun", but I would get hammered if I did.
