Just a bit of Tamla Motown trivia '74 letter
Just thought worth sharing for an idle moment. Swapping some album covers in picture frames, putting Stevie Wonder's Innervisions up for a while (love the art work), came across this letter. My brother and I would have been saving money from part-time jobs and going down to hand it over the counter at Syd Booths Mansfield. Remember we had a problem with this, with 2 copies from the shop jumping so Phil sent a letter. Great response I think, and nice bit of social history, even down to the mention of the 3 day week!

Jd Bryant You Won't Be Coming Back
Realise I'm contributing to off topic discussion but just a shout out for Les Chansonettes- Deeper as a really cool 'Northern' track. What would that command now £1000 - £1200?

Charles Spurling Let Me Be, 2007 Reissue Price Please
I messed up a few months ago, on ebay late after a few glasses and rushed to snap a Charles Spurling Let Me Be (A Stepping Soul) without really looking properly as it was just finishing. What I'd snapped up was a 2007 re-issue, I can't entirely blame the wine, to be honest I didn't know this had been re-issued (I say re-issue I think it's legit). A closer look would have been useful! Anybody advise a fair price to off-load?
-
Charles Spurling Let Me Be (A Steppin Soul)
Don't blame you Rob, so did I, but in my haste and enthusiasm (plus lack of knowledge - didn't realised this had received a legit reissue) I got the re-issue. Personally I blame the wine. I must find out how much I could offload this for, I'm not really into buying re-issues or boots.

Charles Spurling Let Me Be (A Steppin Soul)
Got one to offload but it's the 2007 re-issue King. To be honest I didn't know it had been re-issued and bid on it without a close look and thought I'd grabbed a real bargain. I should have looked closer but saw it late (also probably through a glass of wine). I have no idea of price of re-issue, think I overpaid in my stupid enthusiasm. let me know if interested and I'll try to suggest, or let you suggest if you prefer, a price. No offence if not interested.

John Manship Auction Results 27 -5-2015
Benny Scott and the Soul Masters has 2 on Popsike (only a guide I know), £438 and £324, makes this one at £203 respectable for a collector?
-
Johnny Hampton Dotty's
Given the good (as in near identical) state of one of the boots I think some of the Popsike examples would be questionable given the vague descriptions. Although if the example that Kev quotes above is the one I'm thinking of, I remember not bidding for it presuming due to price it must be a boot. Saw the buyer who confirmed it was an original. How sick did I feel.

Leon Bridges
Check out Leon on Later with Jools now, also new album. Not going to say he's brilliant, very good compared to contemporaries , but damn he looks cool. Typing without specs, forgive mistakes!

I didn't think this price too bad for an issue? Am I out of touch? Flip is brilliant.

3 Bossmen (Pipas Records) Curious?
Thanks for info Steve and RobbK. I was interested in that general opinion Steve, particularly your comment "its been into and out of my playbox several times over the years....to no real audience reaction.". I don't recall playing it out when I was playing out. Played it some time ago to a couple of friends at our regular "Play what you've recently purchased / found and drink as much red wine as you can" evenings, all thought it sounded very college band. Likewise googled to only find the silly inflated speculative priced copy, 3 wants on discogs made me query if it was receiving attention. Further search on discogs finds an LP on PIPAS, introducing the Bossmen with the following track list: Tracklist A1 Introduction A2 Simple Song A3 It's Too Late A4 Do Me Right A5 And I Love Her B1 Funky Nassau B2 Cucamonga B3 What You See Is What You Get B4 The Thrill Is Gone B5 Them Changes Further searches on Bossmen rather than 3 Bossmen will find a photo of the inner sleeve of that album: Searching on Bossmen reveals singles on a variety of labels but haven't checked if it's the same as the PIPAS Bossmen/ 3 Bossmen. Thanks again for the info, Dean.

Willie Hutch Boot?
Has Love Runs Out been booted or is this simply a label photo/scan on a carver. Doesn't look like and UK abc with centre pushed out. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Northern-Soul-WILLIE-HUTCH-THE-DUCK-LOVE-RUNS-OUT-Hear-/371327056113?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5674d138f1 Seller states it's a boot and label looks a little blurred, but worried about these being sold-on.

Soul Label Pre Motown
Reading Detroit 67, reminded of the origins of the SOUL Label as part of Carmen Murphy's HOB stable. Does anyone know of a discog? Believe The Barons (previously Peppermints which included Lee Rogers and Duke Browner) had a couple of releases on the early SOUL label, also Buddy Lamp under another name, Johnny West.. Good info at Soulfuldetroit.com . Anyone have any of these? Any others? Quite liking this one , Barons while the cat's away (flip of Who's in the Shack) Also Johnny West's Tears baby / It aint Love
