Not too concerned but worth a check. No stamped S matrix but scratched number is 15218 (as opposed to usual boot scratch of 125218). AT isn't angled but notice it isn't distributed by Atco Div of Atlantic but simply by Atco. Authentic? Thanks Dean.

I like this post, it's got passion. I think it's something many of us feel on the back of some (not all) poor current observations and experiences. Somewhere along the line the 'scene' lost it's aggression in my opinion. We seem to want to portray a happy clappy image. I was terrified at my first nighters, and whilst agreeing with many above that it isn't all about Wigan, the casino was a scary place for a young skinny lad until you got recognised. But of course there's no money in terrifying venues. Russ, play a few tunes and think of good times to come, they may be hard to find but they're still out there, hang in there and put scary back into the scene! -

Came across this new release track by Jermaine Peterson https://atarecords.bandcamp.com/track/saturdays-child Some good stuff coming out of ATA records in Leeds, previous release by Rachel Modest is very cool but much less northern. Enquired about a vinyl release and received following message for anyone interested: Hi DeanThanks for your interest in Saturday's Child. The track is part of a series of free downloads we're currently putting together called "Hard Work, No Pay" that began with the Rachel Modest track "I who am nothing" we released earlier this year (Jermaine's track is number 2 in the series). The plan is to release a vinyl only compilation of the series when we reach enough tracks (probably around 10-12 tracks). You can keep up to date on this and other releases by following us on Facebook or Twitter or by signing up to our mailing list on our website Hope that helps!CheersPete

You'll never manage to keep everyone happy Maryam, especially in promoting. There are some sharp keyboards and wits on here, but mostly people mean well, even if experience has taught us to be sceptical, or perhaps we started as sceptic and grew into grumpy. There's no rules, similar to there is not a northern soul dance (I'm sure the BBC would like there to be a northern soul dance to show how to do it!). I think your best advice on here comes from Paultp above. Be wary of a minibus pulling up that looks like it's come straight from the BBC wardrobe department, as you said above this night is 'out there now', not a night in the 70s. I cringe at the fancy dress portrayal often seen, together with the mock badges that claim membership of something people wish they had belonged to rather than engage with the northern soul scene circa 2015. Or perhaps the retro outfit is the NS scene 2015? Take note of Paultp's post above, and get ready for the flack IF it turns into another Oh FFS moment on TV. And please try to ensure anyone interviewed has some teeth in. -

I would be wary of "They want to film a regular night". The BBC will understandably want to film a programme that appeals, either by curiosity, revelation, fun, but I doubt "regular". Whilst applauding and agreeing with your sentiments around embracing the demise of any underground nature and looking forward to a more public aware future, along with good marketing, I would be aware. If they wanted to film a regular night why not just have the regular attendees without the request for "dancers". You are more likely to attract "15 minutes of fame" wanabees than people with interest and history. -

Maryam, however well intentioned I think some of the sniping and concern comes from many examples of misrepresentation, and embarrassing misrepresentation at that, together with the reasoning that for those joining in the early 70s there was a sense of belonging to something created by enthusiasm outside of mainstream media driven culture. I can't speak about earlier. I tend to think if it had been as easy to access then as it is now I wouldn't have bothered. The more we shine a light on this the more we lose what was special about the scene. And before I'm shouted down about attracting younger people, I'd rather have 1 young person at a venue who has found the scene rather than 10 where the scene found them. -
Would you consider part exchange for a second issue voices of East harlem?

I've always thought the black text was a boot rather than legit, but I think that's based upon 40 years of presumption. The black text has has VIRTUE STUDIOS scratched in run out groove, together with F - TRO - 3 - RE, with Heartaches side similar but TRO - 2 scratched in.

Just thought worth sharing for an idle moment. Swapping some album covers in picture frames, putting Stevie Wonder's Innervisions up for a while (love the art work), came across this letter. My brother and I would have been saving money from part-time jobs and going down to hand it over the counter at Syd Booths Mansfield. Remember we had a problem with this, with 2 copies from the shop jumping so Phil sent a letter. Great response I think, and nice bit of social history, even down to the mention of the 3 day week!

Realise I'm contributing to off topic discussion but just a shout out for Les Chansonettes- Deeper as a really cool 'Northern' track. What would that command now £1000 - £1200?

Was following this on ebay earlier (didn't get it) https://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRA-RARE-Dorothy-Berry-You-Better-Watch-Out-Northern-Soul-45-EX-EX-Danish-PS-/121665753737?ssPageName=STRK%3AMESINDXX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=YXhvTOewTRCg1X%252FyhtPLgfeGWg8%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Danish Dot! Are there any other Planetary on international Dot, in particular Shindig City? Thanks, Dean.

I messed up a few months ago, on ebay late after a few glasses and rushed to snap a Charles Spurling Let Me Be (A Stepping Soul) without really looking properly as it was just finishing. What I'd snapped up was a 2007 re-issue, I can't entirely blame the wine, to be honest I didn't know this had been re-issued (I say re-issue I think it's legit). A closer look would have been useful! Anybody advise a fair price to off-load?
-
Don't blame you Rob, so did I, but in my haste and enthusiasm (plus lack of knowledge - didn't realised this had received a legit reissue) I got the re-issue. Personally I blame the wine. I must find out how much I could offload this for, I'm not really into buying re-issues or boots.
-
Got one to offload but it's the 2007 re-issue King. To be honest I didn't know it had been re-issued and bid on it without a close look and thought I'd grabbed a real bargain. I should have looked closer but saw it late (also probably through a glass of wine). I have no idea of price of re-issue, think I overpaid in my stupid enthusiasm. let me know if interested and I'll try to suggest, or let you suggest if you prefer, a price. No offence if not interested.

Benny Scott and the Soul Masters has 2 on Popsike (only a guide I know), £438 and £324, makes this one at £203 respectable for a collector?
-
Given the good (as in near identical) state of one of the boots I think some of the Popsike examples would be questionable given the vague descriptions. Although if the example that Kev quotes above is the one I'm thinking of, I remember not bidding for it presuming due to price it must be a boot. Saw the buyer who confirmed it was an original. How sick did I feel.
