Thanks for that boba, sorry - I meant SALVATION - ROBERT THOMAS, (Charay). Don't know why I put my salvation - think I was singing it in my head as I wrote. Dean

Apologies in advance if this is common knowledge and I'm the only person not in the know (wouldn't be the first time!) Picked up a great (imo) version of Mr Pitiful by MATT & ROBERT on Soft Records (S-1036). Got it from Barrie at A45heaven (which I would take the opportunity to praise through the roof, both via set sale and ebay, always great condition great service and value). Seeing flip was 'Soul of a Man', remebering this is flip to Robert Thomas -Salvation (plus Bobby Skel link to Salvation), and sounding like him - Am I right to presume that ROBERT is Robert Thomas on this? Is Pete Smith out there when you want him, seem to recall he collected Soft as well as Red Coach! Anyway, great playable tune, I think. Thanks for any info, Dean.

Dean replied to Mark Bicknell's topic in Record Sales
£7!!!!!! Was this ever £7?? Unless my memory is filling in false info this was playing as I walked up the red carpet steps into the main hall at Nottingham Palais nighter 1975, a terrified skinny kid heading onto the dancefloor . . . . . . . . funny how some things don't change. Whatever your profit Mark I'm happy at the price. Dean -

Record received Mark, good clean record at a bargain price. Many many thanks always been one of my favs and never owned - will be on my playlist. The only bright thing tonight after that shower of football HEARTBREAK IS SOMETHING WE'VE ALL KNOWN.........!!!! -
Jimmy Scriv - how much for that Mecca badge? Only joking. I can recall being part of the habit/religion that toured the country with de-rigeuer bag adorned with badges, in a different century. That bag was savagely attacked one night whilst amongst a pile of similar bags on the casino stage, and was stripped of quite a few teenage sewn-on treasures (was hard work getting that needle through the pvc). If the thief is reading this, can I have 'em back now please, I want to put them on ebay! The fav missing one was a Dukeries Soul Club badge with an oak tree in the middle - probably only means something to local Mansfield/Notts. Me thinks the crime has now been promoted from petty theft to grand larceny! Planning my retirement I'm gonna look into producing some white demo badges of The Attic (semi-known) and pin my financial future on that being fashionable! I do have several bottles of Wigan Casino air if anyone's interested?

Mark - emailed you regarding Idle Few. Tried to pm but don't think it went. Dean -
Don't have any problem with the snipe Pete. I put my bid on, you bid more, that's fair. Often end up regretting not bidding more on several records but that's just part of my indecisiveness and trying to grab bargains. Think I'll regret this particular one for a few weeks yet, but get the feeling I'd have only pushed up the price - not really sure how rare this is but getting that "doh" regret, did look in top condition. Good luck bidding and best wishes.
-
What are you putting Gayle Harris up for? Would you believe I got sniped on this recently by someone, can't recall, minty fag or something! All's fair in love, war and ebay. You're right, really good ballad - is it still in company sleeve?

Soul Shack New Show Update Now Confirmed - Starpoint Radio
Dean replied to Mark Bicknell's topic in All About the SOUL
better let Joe see to that Kev, Sunday: 7pm-9pm couple of beers, after 9's = red wine, by 10pm you're tryin to get the sky box to do toasted cheese sarnies. Remember Mark has seen you mentally crash (fag ends in record boxes!!) No luck needed Mark, best wishes for the show. Good time of night for me, have to be on-line as I'm with Virgin (no comment necessary), but good for listening and scanning ebay 10-12. See you soon, dean. -
Known Rob for decades, met Karen a couple of times now and always impressed by them as a couple. If this is a case of offering support to two genuine, honest, friendly, reliable people . . . . consider that support there, always. Dean

To his credit he recently alerted me to a boot I was bidding on, me not knowing it was a boot (presume he was being genuine, no reason to think any other)

Now there's news to brighten up a Monday, as they say Mark - You've got the right face for radio! You belong on the airwaves mate. Any notion when the regular spot will be day / time ? Have circled Oct 14th on my Scenic Views of Mansfield Calendar 6 'til 8, I'll be listening in. Be good to hear the "OOOOOOHHHH"s ringing out again. Best wishes to you, Dean.

errrrm.................There's a sceptic in me that thinks there's some clever witty dude starts the topic and takes bets on how many posts it will run to, or hands out word bingo to play. Tailor made to get us going. Some interesting points, lot of person baiting. Seem to recall a recent topic "What makes a good northern DJ", presume that got sorted then. Perhaps we should get out more, only to worthy nights of course. You do know there's porn on the tinter web don't you?? (Just in case you were waiting for "porn"...BINGO!)

Similar but not as financialy rewarding. 1977 a second hand record store in Jersey Channel Islands, picked up Tony Middleton and Bobby Matos - Already Satisfied, off back of Paris Blues. Still got it, still play it, still think it's a top tooooooon, just unrecognised. Dean

As for your comments which seem to be aimed at THE ATTIC , sorry m8 two totally differant venues(UNION) , both absolutely fantastic in there own right. No clashes, no back biting , no politics and none of this Bollox about overkill FFS

Thanks for response. Also on Galaxy as Thompin, quite easy to get. John Manship has it (35007) on his site as N/A, does that mean he's had it on? I'm aware this thread is self- indulgent but all advice gratefully received. Dean

Yep, got that one. On orig Motown lists 112 is Edwin Starr, WHICH appears on Motown M1284F siNgle but don't know if there was ever a 35112 promo or studio of this. Number was withdrawn and re-assigned to Originals single. BUTTTTTT - just picked up a promo 35121 from Craig Moerer really cheap. No idea if this is a sound (title not particularly promising) but any label addict will understand, COME ON MR POSTMAN!!! Bless you Craig Moerer. Thanks for the scan of that one, just coincidence have picked it up today - 121 is on Motown Co list as never issued.
-
I'm sure that in between all the funding issues you've enjoyed providing us with this gem over the last 7 (is it really 7) years Mark. There should be some sort of "Contribution to the Northern scene" award.................. Consider yourself nominated. Top show from the heart Mark. Look forward to seeing on at some venues. Always a deck for you at the Attic (you do so well on just one deck!), expect to see you in bigger venues than ours though. Very best wishes in all you do, Dean.

Thanks for the advice wilxy - appreciated. Dean

Recently completed (I think!) Motown SOUL label collection S35001-S35123 issues (still working on demos - a man needs a hobby). To my knowledge there are 9 unissued: 35007, Merced Blue Notes - Do the Pig 35009, Earl Van Dyke & The Soul Brothers - All for You 35019, no need to mention really 35086, David and Jimmy Ruffin - Lo and Behold 35089, Blinky - How You Gonna Keep It 35101, Bob Babbitt -Gospel truth (missed an acetate of this a few years ago on ebay - although listed as B side 'Running like a Rabbit' at the time) 35112, Edwin Starr - Ain't it Hell Up In Harlem 35114, Jr Walker - You Are the Sunshine of My Life 35121, Originals (Call on Your) Six-Million Dollar Man Any information? Anyone seen promo copies of any of these? Anyone have promo copies of any of these??? I know some are available on other Motown labels, some I've got. Just curious, thanks, Dean.

I think there's only so much you can do. Honourable people bother about these things, the others don't. Did you include a photo on ebay that you could refer to? I think for items expecting £50 and above it's worth a picture or scan of more than the label. May be worth asking if the packaging is damaged at all, under the excuse of following it up with postal service, or more directly ask if he's opened it with a pair of garden shears! Hope it works out

Any news on Carl? I've just had a text (won't say who from) adding to the rumours mentioned above on this thread. Heard off Steve Studge and Phil Kingswood that a Folk House reuinion is in the offing, he needs to back on the floor for that one surely. Best wishes Carl, hope to see you soon, Dean

payment sent for Jamal Trice. Big thanks to Kev Holmes for phoning me, drinks on me Kev.............that's it, last issue collected!!!!
-
PM sent, let me know if still available, that's a definite want. Will have a look through others, some bargains in this list. Dean.

Not read it all, and don't expect people to read this. I did notice that Carol who won at prestatyn was announced as Carol from Burnley. What happened to Carol from Todmorden Carol? That was the day when everyone was somebody from somewhere rather than their pseudonym on SS. For my note Carol is a worthy contender. For another I'd like to recall a bloke called Pip who I met at Warrington Parr Hall, he was going out with Cathy Kirby (no, Cathy queen of the go-go from Bradford) ......... he was bloody good. Anyone know him or what became of him? Oh, and by the way, whilst I'm on here........... Mandy where are my tapes? Have you fell out with the Attic, check out our next guests........................... and see Gary Churm in flambouyant action ( nice post Kev H). Dean
