Radio 2 "the Definitive History Of Uk Dance" Northern Soul
So many of these revealing looks it's hard to be bothered by anything reported anymore. Had to smile at a few things (could've easily mis-heard any of these by the way). Chris Hill going to Cleethorpes "disguised", why?? I think it was also Hill (who I do think deserves respect) said "It was like a northern working mens club, men on one side of the room and women on the other" . Grew up in miners welfares, didn't see many women in them at any side of the room (apart from Sat night, then it wasn't a gender division). The idea of a nighter resembling a school disco is funny, seem to recall quite a sense of early liberty and equality. About as useful as the previous channel 4 gaf, "They didn't let me into Wigan because I was black ". Would've thought Zoe could've asked Norman Cook about all that. Good music clips though. Nat as good as Little-Stevie's short with those handsome supporting actor types

Its The Same Old Song
For reasons outside of my consciousness, don't know why , but for over 30 years Linda and The Funky Boys - Climbing The Steps Of Love, has been buzzing around my head whenever it empties of daily thoughts. Which makes me think. . . . . . . what label is this on prior to the wonderful Spark Northern Soul! Monday morning preacher Davies would cry, everybody here is Jesus's child . . .. . PLEASE TELL THE VOICES TO STOP NOW!

Few For Sale

What 45's Were Released In The Last 10 Years
Was telling Cunnie how much I was liking Angel at Qube recently. "You bloody northern lads, we've been playing that for 3 years"! Great sound that fits within the last 10 certainly, and would never want to argue with Cunnies taste, not with that tongue.

Just Curious, Anyone Playing / Played This
Within this broad church of NS, does this get any plays, just curious because of obvious link. Unusual sound that grows on me.

40 Boots - 1 New Seller On Ebay
They do listen sometimes. Couple of months ago I had 6 items removed as someone complained that I'd put I accept cash at payers risk, alongside usual paypal and cheque. 100% positive feedback, no warning, no notice, all with bids on. Happy to add to complaints with this though, Dean

The Ones Happy Day
Ridiculous coincidence, just seen this finishing in a few minutes on ebay, doesn't look like condition to buy but there is one there.

The Ones Happy Day
Ken was tha a fiver for a SPIRIT label or Motown. Don't think the Spirit should be that difficult just don't see them.

The Ones Happy Day
With a cross-reference to the Kings Go Forth thread on here and Danny Hernandez. Been playing The Ones "Happy Day" at our Attic night, also gave it a spin at the last Vault of Soul, at Qube Sheffield. Sounds great out on the floors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Febspj8GV4 (think you'll have to copy/paste into your browser) Question is: I believe this sold considerable numbers on local Detroit label SPIRIT before being taken up by Motown, just don't see them around. John Manship had one on his list a couple of months ago when I was trying to track down a few for friends, but turned out to be a listing error (anyhow thanks for the Ex Motown copy John, much appreciated and great value). Are there plenty around and I'm just not seeing them? "Happy Day" is the flip of this: By the way KevH, just picked up another M- copy on Motown if you want to do a swap deal for that battered copy. Tempos - I'll Be So Happy (?)
Same song but tone and tempo (no pun intended) different. However, possible it could be such a poor reproduction (or purposely so?) making it sound so different. Not much information forthcoming so I am presuming it isn't genuinely The Tempos - making the possibility of a poor quality cover more of a possibility. Thanks for response. Anybody know if The Fabulous Jades was ever covered as Tempos well back in someone elses day? Dean

Tempos - I'll Be So Happy (?)
Decades ago I purchased what we referred to as an EMI disc from a local dj, Eric Hetherington, used to DJ at Dukeries Soul Club, was a mate of Phil Kingswood I think. One side of this EMI is a track by The Tempos, I'll Be So Happy. 35 years later I've still never heard or seen one, of course it could be a cover but I don't think it is. Sound quality is dreadful (as you'd expect) but it's a thumpin' oldie track. Sorry can't post a sound clip. Anyone shed any light? Just for interest the other side of the EMI is Lesley Gore - Just Can't Get Enough of You, just to give you a flavour of the time. Thanks, Dean.

Soul Shack Starpoint Radio Update Reminder - Sunday Night Show
public response rather than private Mark, just hearing 12 Red Roses, missed first half hour but got on it since then. Great choices tonight, couple unknown to me. Do you hire 'em out?? Keep on Mark, best wishes, Dean (too sick for lifeline!)

C4 Tonight - 3 Min Wonder - feat Stevie Cato and Soul Revolution
We got the box, turned out to be full of cans of warm lager! Well done Steve, serious portrayal with passion and commitment. thought you came across well, which is always nervy not knowing how the edititng is going to go. I guess there's a whole 30 minute programme of out-takes featuring the iron burning and the first 3 attempts to open the can on the train . Is my nose really that big

Orig / Boot Info Please, Billy Kennedy - If I Was A Kid
Hopefull, I'm often guilty of presuming some I've had for many years are boots as they were purchased in the height of 70s boot selling from local shops. Had a Frank Beverly and the Butlers Sassy demo for £2 off the same display wall - thought that was a boot for a while! Thanks for the info

Orig / Boot Info Please, Billy Kennedy - If I Was A Kid
All info welcome. Just got a package from a reputable dealer Billy Kennedy - If I was A Kid on Silver Records. Big record around 1976/77 if memory not failing too much. Exactly the same as what I presumed was a boot. Vinyl, no stamp or delta, neatly etched in run-out is JE UR528-A IF I WAS A KID . Flip side Secret Love (similar style markings). Either I now have 2 nice originals or I have a frown and 2 boots. I fear the latter, but it's occured to me that I don't think I've ever seen a different one. Any help? Thanks in anticipation, Dean.

What Passes As Northern Soul On Ebay
You know when you're trying to explain to a work colleague or some acquaintance where you spent the weekend, and you find youself trying to define Northern Soul - don't you just love it when they've seen something like this! There goes the cred! Amazing what passes as NS, I know someone is going to come on and quote "9 times out of 10" and pop wigan sounds, or claim this is super rare and I'm blinkered, but come on...... northern soul popcorn - cliff richard listen - some of these daysItem number: 110244614366

Counterfiet 45s
Just going right back to start of this thread to make an observation that someone may well shoot down in flames . . . . . . . . But, we (should I say I) don't tend to see UK rarity bootlegs. Is it that most are insufficiently rare (!!?? can feel the collectors steaming now), harder to boot, more focussed legal protection? Could the future for collectors be more in Uk rarity market. I suppose there's no stopping the criminal abuse of rarity and price. I still think the odd thing about our 'scene' is the destruction by those who claim to be part of it by producing fakes for the hungry market. Think I'll just keep buying cheap records! Dean I'm getting the idea why you're referred to as Cloth Ears . I was making an observation, that's observation, that it may be more difficult to counterfeit UK records, hence some safety for collectors within that market. I'd hoped to be contributing to the point, if I was missing it then I still am. I was agreeing in the difficulty if not impossibility of stopping criminal abuse relating to rarity and price. The "odd thing" comment is me missing your point but elaborating and making my own, connecting your comments to what I don't like, those part of the scene and abusing through greed. That's just my opinion. I wasn't intending to insinuate that serious criminal replication would be done by small time bootleggers on the scene. I hope you get your keyboard fixed, that exclamation mark is being a nuisance isn't it, or perhaps some therapy . . . . . . . . . . and breathe out. And best wishes.

Counterfiet 45s
Good points. Also the size of the states which contributes to different pressing plants would make it more believable for sudden finds of hidden records. I'm sure the states is fairly dried out by now compared to 1970s but the size of the place lends itself to believing in still hidden backwaters. I think it's fair to assume that all there is of Alexander Patton etc are out there, if not all then the very very few odd hidden ones, but not a box of 50!
