  1. I do some work in schools around that area, (Henry Mellish, River Leen, Ellis Guilford), I'll keep an eye for the missing two in case they've been dropped / thrown. I know it's silly given all the ills in the world and all the real problems some people face on a day-by-day basis, but I can't help but feel sick to the stomach at the thought of those two records laying out there somewhere, getting damaged. Post or Pm if you find them (or any others are found to be missing, but obviously if I see any 7" I'll contact you). Best wishes, Dean.
  2. A very skinny lad from Mansfield used to finish day shift at the pit some fridays, shower, eat and change, bus to Nottingham, Barton's bus direct to Peterbro. Some locals used to think I was wearing eye-liner (never that trendy) with the pit dust still in my eyes. God, it all seems such a long time ago. Pit's have gone, lad I sometimes travelled with hung himself about six months ago (twat should never have given up soul nights . . . . . . . . I do have a soft side). Wonderful piece Paul, send you a donation in th post. Dean
  3. I don't think I've ever seen a Goldspot boot, but that doesn't say much. Do you recall it looking like the G101 issue? Manships guide (getting dated now 3rd Edition) only refers to GAR boot.
  4. Kev Holmes just text me to alert me to the Kenny Smith unplayed Lord, What's happening to Your People on Pete S current sales on here. Tempted but spent up at the moment. That got me to thinking, there are GAR djs (and booted), GAR issues, and Goldspot (Lord What's Happened) G101. I don't ever recall seeing a Goldspot DJ/demo. Do they exist?
  5. Should put this on ebay Malc, bet you'd get more than £40 with the slogan " Genuine casino record box, still contains some air from the record bar".
  6. Five for your halloween party: 1) Cobblestone - Trick Me Treat Me (treat) 2) Big Boris - Devil's drive (treat) 3) Ted Cassidy - The Lurch (trick) 4) R. Dean Taylor - Ghost in My House (treat) 5) Spooky and Sue - I've Got the Need (trick) IMO of course
  7. You'll be back, you can't keep quality down, even when short on punters you generated a good night. Hope to buy you a baycham soon. Dean
  8. Shame on you Toad, you mean you didn't tell the charity shop that saves the lives of thousands of people that it was worth much more!! If it eases your conscience, I'll give you £30 for it, you can give £20 to Oxfam and you're 300% up on the deal - everyones a winner
  9. Just watched an "Excellent" Piece of the Action LP go through on ebay, finished at $70.98 (£41.43), from Portugal. Raised a few of questions in my head: Was this a bit of a bargain? For OVO enthusiasts is this the way to play "Lend a Hand" out (seem to hear it out more than I see 12" being flashed!)? Are any other tracks from this played out by anyone? Apologies in advance if this is common knowledge, I've got some pretty big gaps in my knowledge.
  10. NORTHERN SOUL WIGAN CASINO ADVERT/MEMBERSHIP FORM 1974 Item number: 380071725444 https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NORTHERN-SOUL-WIGAN-...id=p3286.c0.m14 Credit to you, £5.50 (five hours to go) for one page from an old Blues and Soul, where's that staple remover?
  11. Sniped on ebay again today for a Betty Turner - Be Careful Girl, USA Liberty. Bid $106 went for $106.35 . Still no complaints, bid what I thought fair. Anybody want to part with one, must be Ex side of VG++ or better for £60? Obviously orig only - ...."And I will strike down upon thee with with great vengance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers, or pass bootlegs, and you will know my name is the Lord, when I lay my vengance upon thee" Thanks, Dean.
  12. probabaly vary around understanding of "anthems". Do you mean played to death? Many anthemic sounds are now the more embarrassing ones IMO - would 9 times out of 10 have been big if not played again and again at wigan? There will be many personal ones, for me Richard Searling's discoveries are my wigan anthems but that's probably because they were the reason I kept going to Saturday nights - only way to hear them. That brings up another "anthem" sub-section , Friday "Oldies" nighter anthems. My memory is really crap but this may shed a tiny interest. I think it would be about 74 or 75, I'm sure I was at school. I think it was in Black Echoes (can't be sure - when did BE start?), one of these top 10 lists, Top Ten at Wigan - I remember number one being the vocal to Bok to Bach (Dance of Love?). I've just pulled out of an old record box a copy of Northern Noise #3 - Special Wigan 4th Anniversary Oldies Edition (!) Which includes "Full results of our Top Poll"!!!! Top all-time single .........Do I Love you . 2) Out on the floor 3)Time will pass you by 4) What 5)Sweetest feeling. There's a more intertesting Richrad Searlin's Top 20 Oldies of all time (#1 Frank Beverley) and his top ten Newies (#1 Ivy Jo Hunter). If you want I can list later, got to go and get my daughter now. Nobody mentioned - I'm On mY Way Yet??? We've just done a top 20 Attic Cd for an internet radio show, don't think any of the above get a look in!
  13. Risking stating the obvious, there's currently one on John Manship auction www.raresoulman.co.uk , 14 days left £363 current bid if your looking for a bargain.
  14. Edwin Starr appeared a couple of times, I've got a tape of one of the nights somewhere, both Edwin and Searling's spot that night. As I recall Edwin was better the second time, first time a bit phased when someone near the front of the stage asked for Accident, backing band didn't have a clue. Got a tape of Jr Walker at Wigan too, must look those out. On the whole I'm not a fan of live acts other than to show appreciation for the history, but I think both Edwin Starr and Jr Walker gave a good account of themselves. I remember running accross the stage at the end of Jr Walker to get the sleeve of a Roadrunner SOUL promo signed (still got that), he showed a real enthusiastic interest in the promo copy (not that hard I know) wanting to know where I'd got it from. Dean
  15. Not such a daft call after all, thanks, I think I've got a deal sorted. Dean
  16. Friend offered to try to buy me Stemmons Express - Woman, Love Thief - that went through on ebay tonight, for up coming birthday present. Bid dollar eqivalent of £262, went for next bid of dollar equivalent £265. Before she changes her mind . . . . . . .anyone want to part with one on Wand for £262, needed in Ex condition. Would of course accept same on Karma but can't offer more £, but accept VG++. I know . . . .but worth a try, better than a pack of socks!
  17. Can never predict ebay. Was showing friends my items not won list the other night . . . . . . . dozen beaten by one snipe bid, so there's always one too many on for me. Have just got a couple of real cheap deals from Barrie Waddington's A45 Heaven list on ebay: Grover Mitchell - Loving You (Decca Demo) plus Luther Ingram - Since You Don't Want Me (Ko Ko Recrods). I know neither are expensive by any reckoning but got them both, including postage for under £10! Mussant gramble eh. You can still pick up cheap sounds that are imo very good. Thanks Barrie
  18. Lesson learned Trevski, usually bid now just in case, even tho I don't expect to get them on my budget. Would have happily paid out for that one, great dancer . . . . . . . . if only I could dance!
  19. Not had time to look back through but I'm sure the Ellen and the Shandells one on JM only went for under £200, I can remember being disappointed I'd not gone for it thinking it would go too high for my wallet at the time. I got one (Dry Well) of ebay (Ex) a couple of years ago for £84. I did get another (Ex) about a year ago for under £40 and sold it on for £90. Played it at The Attic recently and someone was telling me about an album track version by The Hollies? I can't confirm that, and it was towards the end of the night so I could be remembering that wrong - anyone know? Dean
  20. Johnny Copeland - Just One More time is one of my very favourite home plays, beautiful record, but easy available for £10 mark, although many are a bit on the rough side.
  21. Luvin the optimism, started at $9.99 and there was a bid for $10
  22. For a label collector this is solid gold and prob worth every penny to the owner. The label design had changed several records earlier. I remember writing to motown when i was still at school and getting a label listing for SOUL, long before Frank Wilson was Eddie Foster. By rights this shouldn't exist! First I've ever seen, I've got every issue (that were issued) and most white demos. Bid on this but didn't get it, congratulations to the person who did. If I'd had the funds I'd have gone more, lovelly just to see it. Scene has always been about rarity - long may it continue to be so.
  23. I seem to remember being at Wigan one night, and I think it may have been Brian Rae finishing off, trying to establish Geri Grainger - I Go To Pieces as the 4th before 8, announcing his intention over the mic to make it so. Can't be sure if it was Brian, but sure I recall the moment. Steve Lydon likes to try and finish with Little Anthony - Hurt So Bad at The Attic night, that seems to work, although I have spun Cathy Carlson as an alternative a couple of times - just to annoy Steve.
