  1. Interesting to hear Brian Mathew on SOTS this weekend, "Written and performed by four sisters from Liberia as Flamma Sherman, they were in fact the daughters of that countries ambassador in London, George Flamma Sherman". BBC iplayer 41min.30 Didn't know that. Googled Flamma Sherman to find info on The artist Corina Flamma Sherman: "She later developed as Musician and song writer(as part of the 4 sister act group called the 'Sherman Sisters'wrote songs such as Bassa love, and became Englands first all black girls pop group who worked with the Beatles) documented and photographed by Vogue." Didn't know that! You could fill a library with what I don't know. Still love Where is He and play it out sometimes, remember it from East Anglia Soul Club St Ives and Phoenix at Peterborough (76/77?). Any other recommended tracks by Sherman Sisters or Flamma Sherman known and played?
  2. Thanks Steve, interesting regarding Just Can't Get Enough of you. Not sure if it wasn't album only? Thought I recalled flip to No Matter What You Do was ok, just checked to see it's I Won't Love You Anymore, which I now notice is the A side of UK Mercury 889.
  3. Played this out a few times to mixed responses. I do recall it getting a thumbs up from Karl Heard at an Attic night. Both sides are good (can't remeber flip title on uk mercury, not at home at moment) but No Matter What You Do shades it as a potential dance floor tune. I beleive that Her version of I Just Can't Get Enough Of You was a played sound way back in the day. There's a credible version by the Apollas on Loma but Lesley's version has a lot more 60's thump. I'm too young to to rembember this being played but at the age of 15 I picked up an EMI with this on that had seen a lot of wear before I owned it. Owned previously by Eric Hetherington if anyone remebers that esteemed name.
  4. I'm gonna start asking Djs at local nights to play this ............. "haven't you heard it, it's a big Sean Hampsey play (in his head)"
  5. I'm rubbish at who played what, where, first, but my memory of Dry Well was as a Cleethorpes sound. I think I knew about Dry Well before I heard of the Ellen & The Shandells title disc, but think that was the first press. I'm sure other's can fill int he gaps. I recall it played frequently at Warrington Parr Hall after Wigan and the pier. When I've played it, it's one of those records that gets as many positive comments as negative ones. For me a great dance record to loose yourself in the mood of the floor.
  6. Sorry all, not been around much, missed last weeks thread. Dean

  10. Turn out was a credit to the man, his character and his popularity, hundreds and hundreds of soul friends and Biker mates turned out. Never seen anything like it at the crem, pity the poor family who followed. Obviously there was a sadness overhanging, but you had to raise a smile for his memory and the way we all turned out to pay respect to one of our own. Good heart felt words by Jerry Lynch. Sincere best wishes to his close family. Dean (P)
  11. Doh, thought I'd found something new on the market, not noticed them before. Must be a bit behind around mansfield, they were shelved between the cat-gut and horse shoes!
  12. Might be in wrong section but couldn't resist the silly pun. Was in my local B&Q tonight. Years have programmed my brain to be on the lookout for something to hold 7", or a couple of 7"s alongside each other. Saw this box on the shelve. It would be no good at all for travelling but thought it may be ok for home storage. Not that well built, crappy little ribbon hinge on lid, metal hinges joining lid to box are cheap, handles won't be much use when full, but for all that thought it was quite neat for under £10. Just thought it worth a public service to give it a shout out on here.
  13. Had a call from JB (Phil Woods) 10.15 at crem, then onto Talbot as PhilK says.
  14. thanks for all info to satisfy an idle curiosity. The Spark release (76) would've been before the Linda Fields and the Funky Boys french RCA LP release (77). I'd always had an image of Spark cashing in on the media driven popularity of Northern at the time that may not be justified in this case. I don't recall and don't think I ever knew about the Casino spot. I was around at the time but probably only occasionally for '76 '77. Don't remember even seeing any ads for it though. That one (sounds like thankfully) passed me by completely. Sounding like it was played on Spark pre release most likely as mentioned, unless it was a turd as Pikey suggests. Probably best left as a memory but will continue to sing in my head whenever I run up or down stairs! Thanks, Dean
  15. Steve L text me earlier to let me know. Remember Dean G from his first trips to Wigan with Mark Hopes, Jerry Lynch, and a few others, and some of your bus trips too Phil if I remember correctly. Always had a good word and a smile when we bumped into each other, will remember him very fondly indeed. Dean (Penford)
  16. One of those guilty pleasure records as far as I'm concerned, I know I shouldn't like it but can't help it. It's the tune I find myself singing along to in my head without any encouragement other than running up or down a set of stairs at the time. Often leads me to condiser in what fomat was this played prior to its release on Spark. In my memory, picked up lots of plays then dropped from sets immediately upon the spark release. Seem to recall it only being in sets for a few months, but memory may deceive. Was it only available / played as an LP track from: Linda Fields and The Funky Boys - Stop (When You Do What You Do), which I beleive was a French RCA Victor release. Any other release? Just curious. Dean Later addition - see it was the flip to various '83 Euro releases of Shame, Shame, Shame on RCA, much later than the Spark 1976 release.
  17. Feel a bit like I've mugged you, buy you a beer next time I see you, £20 gift sent and address by pm. I must look in your sales box if I see you out, I know they're not set stopping tunes but some of those are silly cheap at 40% the price you state. Thanks Ray
  18. Hello Ray, how are things? Bargain - SPENCER WIGGINS - LONELY MAN - (books at 75) vg++ GOLDWAX £45 60% off = £18. If that's true Ray I'll snap this up if it's still available. let me know if I've got this around my arse or not and preferred payment if it's still there. Bestw sihes, Dean.

Steve's lookin' a lot better than I remember him!!!
  20. Thanks Yank. Anyone know of any european or wider world availability on record
  21. The LP 'The Real Barbara McNair' has been discussed several times, forgive if this has been covered previously. I'm always impressed by the depth of knowledge of some on here, and you could fill a library with what I don't know. This may be common knowledge, but time after time on here common knowledge turns out to be common presumption. Is 'Forget You Ever Met Me' album only, and is The Real Barbara McNair the only album this is on, or are there other world-wide Motown formats, or other compilation labels?
  22. I'll take the Fred Paris. Let me know if I'm the first and send email for paypal if I am. Thanks, Dean
  23. Played a couple of times at The Attic as I thought it could now come under forgotten/underplayed tag. If I'm honest I'm not quite sure about it. I enjoy the memory of it many years ago but am not convinced by it now, although as and when the mood takes me that can vary.
  24. It wasn't GC doing the vocal was it on Please don't run?
  25. Record on way to Adam weaver if you're on here.
