    Gil Scott-Heron RIP

Shocked and stuinned to come on here and see this. Deeply saddened. Winter in America was my link from Northern to the wider world of soul music. /jazz/ world music. The world is less interesting tonight.
  2. thanks to all of you for the info, some interesting and intriguing stuff there. Dean
  3. Thanks Kris, couldn't find anything on it
  4. Didn't know this, put a bid in on ebay as a speculative purchase (thinking of Master Keys on Co-Op records - I Done Got On The Right Road), missed by one bid but not disheartened as i didn't want to speculate more than I bid. Was just wondering if anyone knew anything about it. Went for $53 so you don't have to be a genius to guess my spec bid https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220785117685&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  5. Seems to be a lottery, some get through somedon't in my experience. Same goes with sellers, some will insist on value accurately recoreded some don't. I guess the more a seller gets ripped off or let down by postal service, the more unlikely they are to not declare the full cost. By the way I'm still bloody waiting for this. Compare with $7 postage for George Blackwell - Mr Loser from seller thuds, won on 17 May arrived 23 May
  6. Well . . . . as you've started the thread Kevin I'll move these over . . . . as it's such a small list and was only the warm-up for the warm-up. But here's a few I was happy to play early doors over the road doubling up with Steve L (playing 2 each in pairs)) Soul Notes - Don't Make Me Beg ((Way Out) Oliver Norman - Drowning in my own despair (Decca) Forris Woods - Stoned on love (Abbot) James Brown and the Famous Flames - There Was A Time (King) The Jaedes - What'll It Take To Make You Happy (Athena LP) Our Brother's Keeper - The Harlem Clown (King) Roy Hamilton - The Panic Is On (MGM) J. Jame - Hold On, Help is on the Way (J. J. Records) Chris Jones - Destination Unknown (Gooodie Train) Lavell Hardy - What Kind Of Woman (Rojac) odd one at the end ... Lesley Gore - No Matter What you Do (Mercury) Couple I didn't pack that I'd intended to play but there was an incident with a blender, some milk, banana and honey before I set out that put me behind and in a rush. Glad to be a small part of such a good night, Dean
  7. If any player hasn't got Barry White in box it's well worth £25 IMO I'll take Charles Diamond at £45 if still available. Will check tomorrow for pm or post. Dean
  8. Was only talking with SteveL in his kitchen yesterday about how you sell too cheap . This isn't sales forum but I would've thought more than £60 (offers??). I was well pleased with my issue at that price. Well done for the £25 Pete.
  9. Pete - I know this isn't the done thing but I'd love to know what you paid, and what it goes for if you sell it on. I don't expect you to post in public (in fact I don't expect an answer really) but pm if ever you feel like sharing. I've just taken delivery of a nice issue (£32, happy about that) but I think that one is kinda special. Just interested no disrespect intended. Dean
  10. Meant to return to this earlier today on ebay but forgot. Was on for strating bid of $49.99, which I thought would be too much . . . but I like these Motown curios. Anyway, not mine. If anyone has any notion of estimated price I'd be interested to hear. Portuguese
  11. Sorry Andy, got sidetracked with work!! here's link to topic: and here's the orig pic posted:
  12. A few other contenders for frames. I'm leaning towards the two Marvin Gaye pics. The Dusty album has some brilliant pics inside, there's a gatefold booklet between the sleeves that oozes 60s UK.
  13. Some time ago I posted a topic about some pine boxes in B&Q (at the time £9.99). They'd be no good for traveling but are good for home storage. I thought I'd discovered something but I think they were well known by several on here already. They just take two rows of 7" in card covers, with approx 80 per row. The 80 is a guess. Don't think there in all B&Qs but I still see them around, in fact I need to pick a couple up. Dean
  14. Book looks good enough Fotr arts sake
  15. As much as I dislike the northern soul 'tat' that's on sale on-line and at some events, I do like to personalise wall space with key items that mean something to me. I've taken to having a few soul album covers above the decks at home. I think this is my favourite so far. Neater and more attractive than an historical collection that's been on the wall for far too long. What would your favourite album covers be, for the art not for the music (although I guess most of us would want the music to be credible)?
  16. Yeh, I'm sure I remember you playing the 'Old Shep' side out one night. . See you this week
  17. Not in a place I can upload a pic right now. I won the recent (3 or 4 week ago)on John Manship, Edwin Starr - Stop her on sight / I have faith in you, on Norweigan Tamla Motown (TMK 123). Thought it worth it as a curiosity to own on TM. Sure the Stop Her On Sight is a slightly different take, not much in it but still a curiosity.
  18. Thanks again for the great info. I do like the UPTIGHT scan. What struck me to start this topic was the difference in style (hard to discuss acurate difference between vocals and instrumentals, but going on gut feeling to the sound) between the Jamie Pal and the Prophets, the Verve Pal Rakes and The Prophets and the Warner Bros Pal Rakes which is a much more obvious country sound. Hard to credit the same people, admire the variety though. Must admit the Star Odyssey HIB boot had completely passed me by, didn't know anyhting about that. Don't think I've ever seen or heard?
  19. Recently didn't win this Pal Rakes and The Prophets on ebay. Never made the link to Pal and The Prophets Peace Pipe until reminded of Can't Deny The Hurt when seen on ebay. Completely different sound but obvious link (Peace Pipe also written by P.Rakes). In the days of instrumentals Peace Pipe picked up a few play but not for many years to these ears (with the exception of an early spot at Annesley one night!!)
  20. Still waiting Cookie, although did get an email warning of late shipping. I look forward to the cardboard fest.
  21. That's probably what I was remembering wrongly Dave, although I do have nagging doubt.
  22. I am by no means sure of this but I seem to recall a re-issue of this, presuming a legit re-issue. Could be top pic is a re-issue. Sure others on here will know better. I've got an orig at home I can check for other id in the run-out.
  23. Club classic Apologies, long day genuinely forgot I posted this earlier
