  1. Just 2 more to throw down memory lane: Remember hitching it to Coalville without really knowing where Coalville was (Doh!). Picked up at a roundabout in god knows where, drove around with someone clearly as lost as I was to be dropped off "near" Coalville, only to walk on thumbing for 30 mins to find myself back at the same roundabout. Last minute decision to go to Sheffield Sam's one night, with Veronica Lynch (Mansfield lads will remeber her), got picked up by police walking up M1 after a lorry driver changed his mind about his route. Bless them, they took us to Sam's and dropped us outside to some very questioning suspicious looks from the queue outside. You'd always see a nighter bag in any transport cafe.
  2. Don't know what brought this to mind but I was remembering the Journey made many years ago, Mansfield to St Ives (Cambs) for the East Anglian nighters. Bus from Mansfield to Nottingham, Barton's bus Nottingham to Peterborough ( a well traveleld route due to Wirrina nighters), service bus Peterborough to Huntingdon, service bus Huntingdon to St Ives. I don't know how I worked out the route, probabaly just a guess at an AA road map, and presume the bus times were a hope and pray. I do recall there was never a connection back which involved a long day thumbing after the nighter. I know this isn't the longest by a country mile, but it was an effort on public transport. Any other testing journeys?
  3. Thought I had one, took a while to find. Still in shrink wrap, but opened at sleeve opening. 1974 issue. Import sticker on shrink wrap. Ex condition I have no diea of price, realistic offer or suggestions from others on here. Let me know if interested. Dean.
  4. Idris Muhammad - I'm a believer - just in case there is a god At JBs (Phil Woods) funeral the room burst into applause as he went out to Time Will Pass You By, which just felt right Last one isn't a soul one but told my daughter to play Smith and Burrows version of Wonderful Life Steve L - if you go first I'm gonna play Mike Watson - Dig Your Kind at yours my friend.
  5. Have a look at Sean hampsey's Top Tips for 2013 thread in Look at your Box. You'll find some new to your ears as well as some you may well remember, some reasobale priced some not. There's been similar threads in previous years to look back at if you find the thread interesting. Enjoy Dean
  6. Book price which reflects Ex condition is £250 / £200 for issue / dj Would think with some patience tou could do £100 - £150 depending upon condition you want. Never sure how scarce or just tucked away. There used to be plenty about in cheap boxes whilst everyone wanted Dearly Beloved / Do You Believe It
  7. Can't see too well as I'm at work on iPhone. This sounds more deceitful than misinformed. Don't recall these being available until recent, states bought it 2 years ago (didn't make it) . I guess you could claim it to rare whilst not claiming it to be original though. Worst kind of crap, btw love the orig track.
  8. Ok my little fishing friend, I'll bite! 1 & 2 shouldn't IMO be mutually exclusive, educating and entertaining are better together, making them have it isn't the individual dj responsibility. 3 is what I remember from across the years, may be a new tune; or right tune, right place, right time moment. Hard to manage for a wide audience but great to make it happen. 4 is interesting, probabaly depending upon the dj. If it's a dj I've gone to listen to a set I probabaly want to hear some of what I hope for, guess it's down to how boring it is or how critical to the reason for going. I guess see 3 above.
  9. I'm plagued by the vague memory of Fathers Angels (was this Wigan or per Wigan, I wasn't pre Wigan so don't know), but also the vocal Dance of Love which I'm sure had a brief limelight at Wigan never to be heard again.
  10. I'm guilty of moaning about poor packaging on the odd occasion. However. thought I'd share this top packaging. Record from US arrived inside this box, packed between 2 of these discs. Box is only VG but discs are M-. They're both a little "White" but good enough. Unfortunately all 4 sides are instrumentals, from my understanding they're both Tittyshakers, definite oldies though. RCA Red Seal Records, Boston Symphony Orch, 1 Mozart and 3 Tchaikovsky. As JM would say, just waiting the right forward thinking DJ to pick them up . . . . . offers?
  11. Had to smile, his first email to me stressed how I needed to quick as several others were after it and it was first come. Then an email saying I could at least be polite enough to reply, which i did saying I could get it cheaper with patience, then a further email asking if I could go to $160. Sorry to drift off topic a bit, I presume Paul is still after one. As you may gather Paul, there's an opinion that $160 was a little high. Saw one go last night for $143.50 (£89) with $14.25 postage.
  12. Had a US eBay seller making repeat offers to me to sell me one at 160doll, think I bid about 120, didn't win but winning bid didn't pay. This was a week ago but had another email few days ago. Let me know if you want sellers email. Dean
  13. It got a release on Route but that was 1975 (i think) Sorry repeat answer, wasn't quick enough!
  14. This thread is always a good one one for recommendations, just picked up Ascots LP from Craig M, sure I paid more than those in the know earlier but still happy for it be in the post. Thanks to Sean for the thread and thanks to Cunnie for the Ascots post.
  15. Can I add another. I was considering a thread along the lines of "What 3 tunes do you play at home to refresh your enthusiasm after returning from another mediocre oldies night - a sort of 3 Before Bed", but thought it would be less offensive to post 'em on here. At the moment one would be The Fabulous Denos posted earlier above, another would be this one. Jimmy Radcliffe - Lucky Old Sun; on Shout. Don't expect to hear it out but for me it's one hell of an uplifting ballad. Worth starting a nighter just to have it as an ender! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYdz_LtBiaQ
  16. Look forward to this thread Sean. I know you said no need for sound clips, but following the pattern of previous posts: Picked up a King demo of this during 2012 and it's been my favourite home play of the year
  17. If Fabulous Denos doesn't go (current on hold) I'll take it
  18. Not trying to be an arse, no idea of value? Feel free to make an offer, feel free to ignore. b/w Nobody knows the trouble I've seen, only VG+ few minor scuffs, boths sides play well.
  19. I may be losing my mind but it's there in my purchase list this morning. I looked and looked last night as I was leaving feedback for previous weeks purchases. I looked before I had any wine too? Thanks for responses anyway, still think it's strange.
  20. Following a previous thread about excessive postage from musicman59, record arrived ok (unlike previous where heavy duty tape had been placed over label). Did intend to leave feedback but record has gone from my ebay purchase list? it hasn't timed out, purchases from week before are still there. Any other experiences of this, can seller remove item after sale?
  21. What an idiot I am! Thanks for the link boba. They were my threads! This is the same seller who previously charged me $30+ for postage for Harold Melvin - Get Out on Landa, only for it to arrive weeks late with heavy duty packaging tape stuck all over the label. untitled.bmp Don't know who's the bigger twat, me I guess for buying from the guy again. Can't wait to to see what this arrives looking like. Remember: musicman59, musicman59, musicman59, musicman59, musicman59, musicman59, musicman59, musicman59, musicman59
  22. Useful info on here. Another through ebay tonight https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221145411891?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649 $51, didn't want to post before end of auction. Dean
  23. I know I've posted about this kind of thing before, and it's part my fault for not checking more thoroughly. I've not had time for as much ebay and so have been limited to leaving it late and checking what's closing soon. Thought I'd done ok with a Lou Roberts - Everything You Always wanted to Know, $49 (£30), seller posts international but no postage price given, no time to email. Request postage amount to UK after auction win . . . . . $29!!! Now I'm aware there are different postal services but also won tonight Jr. Walker & the All Stars EP Little Lp soul 45 Shotgun (for label collection) , postage $7. WTF?! Last time this happened I made a fuss and received a record after paypal/ebay complaint timescale with heavy duty tape straight over label fixing it to packaging (not same seller by the way), making a damned mess of a Landa label. Paid up for Lou Roberts, and as much as sellers may disagree definitely intend to leave negative feedback after record received, unless postage on package reads $25+. Emailed to ask for justification. Seller with $29.90 postage musicman59 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LOU-ROBERTS-EVERYTHING-YOU-ALWAYS-WANTED-TO-KNOW-ABOUT-LOVE-NORTHERN-SOUL-WLP-/261118586523?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&nma=true&si=1xZKIRnX6%2ByWMsgWkL8AAbpDp9M%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Seller with $7 postage burl*one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150932056527?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
  24. Thought I had an orig of this but doesn't seem to be very clear. So just to throw into the mix mine is: Quality thin flexi vinyl. Holding label in correct position (Ideal at top 12 0-clock) scratched F/W at 2 O-clock (top of letters nearest label); scratched 1168A (same position as label print 1168A) at almost 9 O-clock (top of numbers /letters nearest label) Holding 1168A (both scratched and lable print) at 6 O-clock, F/W at 10 O-clock. Flip side holding scratched 1168B (opposite side of record to label print number) at 6 O-clock scratched F/W at just after 4 O-clock ( above l on Ideal). e from Dame Francis on A side has slight smudged , slight bolder print. Steve - bring it round next time we have a thursday session and we can compare 7"s.
