  1. Agree entirely Roburt, part of the reason for posting the list was my suprise at some of the stuff RS was playing, and as Steve L put there's also several repeats, must have been time when the tape was stopped and restarted but I think Dawn is on this tape (prob C90) twice and Steve L mentions it on his from the same night. BUT, whislt taken out of context we can question some of the record choices, at the time, on the night, is a very different experience. For example I had to find a clip of Peter Jarett and the Fifth Circle (Velours Cover) - Run Babay Run to check the group, only rembered it as Velours, on JM, sounds bloody dreadful as a sound clip, but on the tape it sounds brilliant and I just want to dance to it.
  2. Dave, I'm going to get a couple of the clearer tapes tranfered to disc, as I'm sure cassettes over 30 years old must be vulnerable. When I get to do that I'll pm you and send you a couple. As you'd expect the quality of the sound isn't brilliant in parts but the atmosphere really still comes through.
  3. Knew you were there that night Steve L. I've got a tape from around this time somewhere that's got your loud voice on all over a track or two! I'd forgotten about "Peter Jarett and the Fifth Circle (Velours Cover) - Run Babay Run" Agree that several aren't vintage, but we loved 'em at the time. You could pick several of these up cheaper now! Did enjoy listening to the tape though - perhaps a theme for a Thursday night session Steve?
  4. Clearing houseand came across some old tapes, put one in a tape deck whilst preparing dinner. Taped from a bog-standard cassette recorder, probably left on a bag on the stage. 10/11 June, 1978, 35 years this last weekend!! Some I'd just about forgotten Ben Zine - Village of Tears Carol & Gerri - How Can I Ever Find a Way Inspirations - Your Wish is My Command Prince & Princess - Stick Together (lot's of requests according to RS) Johnny Hendley - My Baby Came Out of Nowhere Paula Durante - If He Were Mine Ronnie Love - Let's Make Love Mike McDonald - God Knows Cobblestone - Trick Me, Traet Me Stemmons Express - Woman, Love Thief Peter Jarett and the Fifth Circle (Velours Cover) - Run Babay Run Tamala Lewis - You Won't Say Nothing J C Messina - Time Won't Let Me Helen Shapiro - Stop and You Will Bexome Aware Dusk - Point of No Return Pat william Orch - Police Story Betty Boo - Say It Isn't So Peggy March - If You Loved Me Paul Anka - When We Get There Teddy Van - Theme from Coloured Man Happy Cats - These Boots are Made for Walking Holly St James - That's Not Love Demures - Raining Teardrops
  5. Not just you, had an interesting conversation with SteveL last week regarding encroaching memory loss. "Looking forward to dementure, imagine hearing Mel Britt or Salvadorsfor the first time, again and again, for the first time" Apologies to anyone dealing with dementure, obviously aware it's more serious than that. Stupid number of times I've nabbed a bargain on ebay, really pleased with myself until I find I already have one. Likewise, please don't come up to me at a night and say "What's this?" I can always picture the label but can't read the artist or title from that image in my mind, so rubbish at that. Even found myself dancing to something then realising "mmm, I didn't think I liked this!"
  6. I've got a white demo (rarer than the black demo, can't recall book price, at work at moment) and an issue, I don't need both. Problem being that from memory both are only the right side of VG, although sure both play well. I can have a look at condition tonight but let me know if you're after an exhibition copy as I'm sure both of mine would only come in at VG/VG+ (think the issue may be cleaner and VG+)
  7. Hard to acquire modern soul from Budweiser Showdown, Tourament of Jams (BSR 702) 12" Crosswind - Get Ready b/w Kontrol - Love's Tearing Me Apart Still in shrink wrap, opened at one side. Record is played but surely M-, no marks on lable, record or sleeve £70 + postage UK £4 first class, £5 signed for, £6 if insured for full value, rest of world please enquire but will try to be reasonable. A rare item from a collectable series that rarely comes to sale these days
  8. Thought this was rare as an issue (Jerry ganey - You Don't Love Me, MGM) then after JM auctioned one about 4 or 5 went through ebay in quick succession (same seller I think) so maybe not as rare as thought. Image isn't mine, just for interest. Thanks for the other scans/pics, I do enjoy looking at the labels. As others mentioned, I won't believe a Holly St James until I see it!
  9. I'm feeling a strong need for this one fron John's auction and I'm not usually affected by the British bug Sorry forget that some can't access pics at work, it's the image of UK Stax yellow demo Darrell Banks, I'm the One who Loves You.
  10. Did it have a $4000 reserve? Just lookign at bid history: prior bid $3499 then two bids by (presumably) same buyer at $4000. I would think the further in time this gets from the original source the harder to establish authenticity. Can think of other 7" I'd rather have for $4000, and this is one of my personal all-time favourite tunes. But as Kev says, happy witht he £50 pink in this case.
  11. Hi Swifty, that originally confused me too. The Brothers of Soul I'd Be Grateful was a polite soul reference regarding the act of forwarding an item on. Not for me to say too much about the item as I'm just the post-man. The bid I placed won an item for Psamsara, he paid up immediately with expenses. All sorted out well, just awaiting delivery to post on.
  12. Well, I like both kinds of music . . . . . Northern and Soul (I know, blatant rip off from The Blues Brothers). Just a few more Tittyshakers before bed!
  13. Without revealing buyer would you be able to say how much you sold this for? It's only my curiosity so no problem if you would sooner not.
  14. I've got a nice clean RCA black issue but it would take £160 plus postage to leave the box it's in. You may get a demo a little cheaper if you hold out, they go through ebay more often than issues.
  15. Looks great. My daughter (Molly) likes to shop around Brick lane when we visit that-there-London. She's a keen 17 year old Vinyl collector now, not soul, more Bowie/ Iggy / Eno and punk, but at least it means she understands my personal desire to sift through, and she does like some of the stuff I buy (law of averages I guess). Hope we can call in next time we're down.
  16. Can you offer some kind of therapy Pete, I just can't do it.
  17. I'm very tempted reply that "Today I am mostly liking Tittyshakers"
  18. Anybody aware of any UK screenings? Just looked at Nottingham Broadway and Sheffield Showroom, couldn't see anything?
  19. I had a vague memory that the sound quality wasn't as good on the Phil La as on the Route, but that could be based on very little evidence . . . . . and even less memory!
  20. Looked on US and UK, searched under Brothers of Soul and I'd be Grateful, couldn't see it? If you want to send a link and how much you want to bid, Dean
  21. US orig is on Landa, prob £50+ depending upon condition for multi coloured issue, there's also a black label silver text that's rarer. Also on UK Route for £5 - £10, thought that would be better than Phil-la unless you want label for specific reason, would have thought about same price. Prices are a guess for ebay auction

    Jerry Ganey

Issue thought to be rare, JM auctioned one a year ago but don't remember price, shortly after a seller put about 5 issues through ebay, I think all went for around £100, perhaps a, little more (can't recall accurately). Sold a couple of yellow demos, put first on for £50 (think) had multiple pms, I think I put next one on for £75 and sold quickly.
  23. I don't know if I've heard this or made it up, and can't evidence in any way (sounding like a strong argument eh!) but I seem to recall it denoting a non-returnable item, which links to the old stock theory
