Can't help with question, don't recall Treat Me Like Lady being played. Just wanted to shout out for Lesley Gore. No Matter What You Do (Mercury) is a great mod/northern thumping tune. Her version of Just Can't Get Enough of You was played but before my time. I think this is quite rare, it's on the '66 album Lesley Gore Sings About Love but not sure about the 45 release. Same as Apollas on Loma.

Wish they'd still do Torch or Wheel anniversary badges like that Wigan 40th badge so I could feel part of that, feel like I'm missing out on a scene. 100 club doesn't stand a chance of overtaking Wigan brigadoon!

I wish it would have included Brenda Holloway, Lonely Boy, I would just love to play that out, such an atmospheric sound.

As a general principal I'd agree regarding the benchmark of JMs prices, and looking at 50% as realistic depending upon grading, but there are some that are undervalued in the guide. I'm going to look at posting a ROJAC (119) black/white promo (Ex) Lavell Hardy - What Kind of Woman for which I'd unashamedly ask £80+ where there's a book price of £40. John doesn't know the scarcity of each and every record and I think this one is difficult, much more than the book price would indicate. However, I grant you it's more usual the other way.

I've got an idea for a Christmas game, NS Top 500 bingo. Sat around tables at a soul night / nighter, only allowed to bring a 100 count box, have to place your (OVO) offering on the table to match the numbers being called (or played for that matter). May need a little more work but if you're reading Kev R it's my idea! Whilst I'm at it can I claim NS Monopoly, collecting nighters around the board (100 Club = Mayfair, discuss yourself what's Old Kent Road), collecting a set to play with attendance fees according for landing on it. If only I could find an NS Tat stall at a weekender to sell this stuff!

I can even disagree with myself on these lists. Recall contributing to a list on here a while ago, was it Your own Top 20 or somehting like that? I compiled a list and a few days later I'd completely changed my mind. I still put on an old tape or CD and think "Oh this would definitely be in my top 20". My Top 20 consists of around 200 records. However, that doesn't stop me criticising others and this list doesn't sit well with me, but as Pete S points out, I would be questioning myself if it did.

I gave it 3. Thought a good effort and interesting enough. I think the only true versions of "the scene" are our own, that make sense to the perspective we experience it from. I'm going to disagree with everyone's version but mine! But I will listen to anything people like Guy have to say with interest.

Hi Richard, it also had a brief spell in the spotlight at the 70s Nottingham Palais all-dayers. It's hard to generalise from local knowledge but I seem to recall as it was getting to be an established expected play within that venue there was a glut of them came into local shops, so much so that for many years I thought mine must have been a boot, on the assumption that any played out sound that appeared in the shops was a boot! (I was very young!). I think its sudden availability led to it being dropped from spots. Very much a theme of the mid 70s, big tune breaks, booted, dropped. Although I was wrong about the boot presumption on this occasion. Think I also have it on a tape from St Ives around 76 / 77, but my date recollection is quite poor. Will have to have a look at the tape.

This may be an urban soul myth . . . . . but is there a 12" 'Idris Muhammad - I'm A Believer' somewhere out there, never seen or heard but it could be in the running for my favourite just by imagination alone!

Bought the canadian LP a while back to justify the OVO side of guilty pleasures. Wouldn't want to hear it out unless I was in some emotionally altered state. There's a page inside the back cover that has some references to the photo plates, but incomplete in my copy, and some simply state something like "photo booth 1976" or something like that, don't have the book in front of me at the moment. I finished reading through it last night and really enjoyed it. I thought some of the text on the photo pages strangely didn't apply to the photo but that's a small criticism. From a personal perspective I'd like to mention the double page pic of Strat Kirby and Angela Midgely, (towards the back of the book, as I said don't have copy in front of me for the page number), I trhink it's after a Clifton Hall nighter and think I can remember that night (I'm not the Dean that's in the pic with them). Really knocked me back to see that picture, never seen it before. Angela died in a fire in Bradford 2010 in suspicous circumstances, her partner at the time Strat has been facing his own 'demons' for some time. I sent his sister a copy of the book to give to him, hopefully a reminder of happy times. Strat was a 'Mod' during the returners phase, think it was Top Cat Scooter Club, Bradford, if memory serves. He got into the music through that interest and his Sister Cathy was a Wigan regular for a while. Angela had more than her fair share of problems later on, but I always thought she was a really nice person to be around and have fond memories of her. Nice picture.

Just in from the pub, and to make it worse without glasses reading this . .. . . These threads can be very very frustrating BUT I have to say I do appreciate the paaion (just checking now sober and with glasses, that should be 'passion') on here. I don't agree with some posts, but if i can take a step back I think it's a credit to all posting, including those I disagree with that this issue stirs such passions. Most of "us" (perhaps) would prefer we didn't have boots but most of us have some. NOW back on thread can we be specific which are worth more than orig so i can sell some of mine to clear my conscience. In a drunken state I love you all . .. . . .
