  1. Brings me out all poetic it does! A thing of beauty is a joy for ever: Its loveliness increases; it will never Pass into nothingness; but still will keep A bower quiet for us, and a sleep Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing . . . . . . . . . . . Made for our searching: yes, in spite of all, Some shape of beauty moves away the pall And I don't think Keats even had the demo. Amazing find, been following the threads in awe, thanks for posting the pics.
  2. Not a UK collector but needed the tissues, better than porn!
  3. For some overly romantic reason, Wigan Casino often takes on the mantle of being Northern Soul to some people. It was great at times, but there were plenty of people who went to Wigan as one nighter amongst others, with occasional preference for others. I think because of being a little tired of the prolonged closure process, with so many last nights, by the time it closed I'd already moved on. I think I miss it more now throguh rose tinted specs than I did at the time.
  4. Knew of him rather than knew him, to say will miss his posts seems shallow against what others he was close to have lost, but I will. Sincere thoughts to those close to him.
  5. Remember it from 70s but to my memory hasn't been overplayed ever, don't know why I love it. So hard to say with conviction but I think it would be in my top 100. More your thinking man's / woman's oldie, but that breed isn't as common as the current mainstream.
  6. On the plus side regarding cost, shipping's cheap. Although if I'd paid $6K (guess) for it I may want signed for.
  7. Must be at least 2 people wanting it bad in an auction. I have to admit to wanting it but I wasn't paying the £68 CM was asking, fear my chance has gone now for a few months at least!
  8. On the fair side Natural Four would seem to me like a good price?
  9. I was watching a Jannie Williams on Craig Moerer for several weeks recently didn't sell within the time a few times for $115 / £68. Sold mid way through auction for stated price. Good luck to JM but some buyers FFS
  10. Sorry Kev, not undermining your price , agree on the £70+ for an ex copy, picked up a spare that's not ex.
  11. Got a spare available for £50 plus postage, from memory strongVG+ but would want to chack condition to confirm.
  12. Keep hoping for a release of Brenda Holloway Lonely Boy, would but a set for that one alone.
  13. Ha, that Emi disc was bought about 1974/5, from Eric 'Hector' Etherington. It's c/u as Tempos, don't know if that was a universal c/u name at the time. The Emidisc sounds different but I think that's just a poor quality issue. There's another version, got one somewhere, think it's the Apollas, will have to dig it out to satisfy myself for now. I know how usual it is for items to soar in the last few seconds, just thought this was a huge leap, finished at over £900. I guess part of the surprise is built on the false hope that it will slip through unnoticed, seller didn't have anything else to link it.
  14. Saw it early week, I was fooling myself I might get it for $9.99, no other bids for 5 days! I sat waiting with my top bid but didn't get close to having that accepted, all in the last 15 seconds.
  15. Lil Lavair and Fabulous Jades went through ebay tonight: https://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=261476901829&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 Don't see many of them! I had an early bid in, sat watching to put my final bid in, last seconds it went from $168 to $1500. No SteveL and KevH - I didn't get it!!!!
  16. There were nighters at the Palais in the 70s. The first I went to was my first nighter, summer 1975. A group of lads from Mansfield hung around the bowling Alley, I don't think it opened until after 2 when the regular disco punters were evacuated. Can't be sure of times though.
  17. Not sure if I should post this in Soul Radio, please move if appropraite. Came across this on Radio 4 Sun 25 May 2014 13:30 on playback Try A Little Tenderness: The Lost Legacy of Little Miss Cornshucks Chicago. It's the late 1930's and a young Mildred Cummings from Dayton, Ohio is barefoot, standing in the spotlight on stage, wearing that same old shabby dress and a broken straw hat. This is Little Miss Cornshucks and she has the audience in the palm of her hand, a unique act and larger than life personality. By the 1940's she made top-billing at nightclubs across America, performing heartbreaking ballads. The great Ahmet Ertegun of Atlantic Records, the man who pioneered the rhythm and blues said "She could sing the blues better than anybody I've ever heard." But who remembers her now? Author and poet Salena Godden invites you to join her in downtown Chicago as she goes in search of the missing legacy of Little Miss Cornshucks, the best blues singer you never heard. Quite a good feel of Chicago, worth checking on BB player
  18. An afterthought but worth a mention, recently got a Big Frank and The Essences - I Won't Let her see Me Cry (Blue Rock), and Pete Taylor told me to turn it over and play The Secret, said he used to give it some early spins at Annesley. Good advice.
  19. Agree with several already mentioned, plus some reminders to turn a couple over, and favourite today may not be favourite tomorrow but missing from the list so far: Fantastic Four - Can't Stop Looking For My Baby / Just The Lonely. I adore Just the Lonely.
  20. wanted plus any help with pricing please: Freddie Scott - On Broadway - Colpix Thanks, Dean.
  21. We often read of poor sellers but just wanted to share a good experience. I've been habitually picking up some Motown european picture sleeve issues when I see them at a good price. One that caught my attention recently for a couple of quid was a French Stevie Wonder, Living for the City with the pic sleeve design from Innervisions album. When received with very reasonable postage there was a note from the seller discolibris2014 that the sleeve wasn't quite NM as described ( I would have let it pass) so included another Stevie wonder picture sleeve record (Sir Duke / Mistra Know it all) as a freebie.
  22. Was it first release you are after. Saw a VG- (looked a bit rough) go through ebay the other night and finish at £148. That would make the 2 (issue and demo) currently on JM sales look good value? Very curious one on JM has hand written credits?? There's a second issue that I'm sure is a legit issue that doesn't have Alley full of Trash and Bottles on flip (also on JM for £40). Just a pointer, not on commission!
