  1. I'm told there are lessons available for this now though. Thank goodness.
  2. Following a question raised on thread in Look at Your Box. Looking for a stock abc Do it by the Marvelows (not to be confused with Marvelows I do)
  3. I think that this is Marvelows I Do, can't find a stock of Do It. I'll post in wants and see if I'm flooded.
  4. Thanks Chalky, one of those things that's going to drive me nuts even if I am embarrassed by the answer. Sure it was a 45.
  5. I'm not confident at all that the tune Matt played was Be Cool Be Calm, just that's the only Stevie Wonder track my brain is tracking down but I think I've lost the tune that was played in my mind now and my brain has gone back to what it knows, humming Be Cool Be Calm to itself! Given the rest of Matt's set I would expect it to be not easily available (not that there's any complaint if it is). Just one of those times when a tune catches your ear and starts to bother you later. Any one on here who was in the room? It was pretty busy at the time, think it was Matt's last record before Andy came on? I'm going to be so embarrassed when it turns out not to be a Stevie Wonder track at all!
  6. Perplexed as to just how scarce the Marvelows version of Do It is? I'm looking at a guide that lists it as £20. None on Discogs, non on popsike, whilst there's a page full of Pat Powdrill on popsike. I can recall a few years ago playing the Marvelows out and recognised collector/DJs asking who it was? Is this overlooked because it's too common or is it just simply under the radar? I was going to try and pick up an issue (got an abc demo) before posting but just not seen one come up? Any info? Dean.
  7. Should have asked at the time but was mid conversation. Last record played by Matt in the rare room at Radcliffe. Stevie Wonder (?) , thought I knew it at the time. I have been less sure as the day lengthened. The only thing I have in my mind is "Be Cool Be Calm (Keep Yourself Together) but don't think that had a 45 release? Anybody know, or anybody pass this onto Matt?
  8. A big thanks to all involved for these write ups. leaving a comment here but reading through 'em all, a thorough education. As a skinny stuttering kid Crackin' Up was the epitome of NS, listening to Phil Kingswood spin his RCA collection in Mansfield. 40 years later it feels like I've grown up with this man's music, and am still growing in appreciation. Thanks again Dave and all.
  9. Pm'd you paypal address, PM me postal address to send, thanks, Dean.
  10. You know what really annoys me, is that bloody KevH "Likes This"! With supportive friends like those eh? Steve - the photos are like that to confuse buyers like you into thinking they're really mint! See you Sat mate for an expectant big night out. Post updated with sold items.

  12. That's what I love about lists like this, it challenges the memories. For whatever reason I didn't have Al Williams down as 79. Thanks for posting Pete, agree with the great set comments, he was King for a long time in my opinion.
  13. I'd love to see the coach pulled up outside a remote chemist on the way . . . . . . pssst got any Anusol? Perhaps more seriously many who go to soul nights these days look for local hotels to lay-over, have a few drinks and not bother with the journey home. If someone wants to try a package then, not for me - but neither is a lot of what's on offer out there at the moment, but let them try it. My guess is inevitably following media interest and film releases it could turn into a baggie bus with full circle skirts and the shallow approach that comes with that, in my opinion. But heh, it could be different, proof pudding and all that, and if it is that then it will suit those on the bus. Be interesting to see the guest DJs.
  14. Counter intuitive isn't it, I thought when it was pressed as a look-a-like demo originals would come to the market but seems to have become scarcer?
  15. Pete, did anybody buy that off you, I could do with another?
  16. I'll have Winfield parker if still available. Will check later, pm paypal address if it's mine. Thanks, Dean.
  17. Am sure I have a Gloria Walker I can part with but think there may be some minor label damage from memory. If you're interested in a VG+ rather than Ex I can have a look later and PM a price, no worries if you not interested.
  18. Meant to bid on the Prince George, fancied that but distracted by life, and agree, think the buyer did ok at that price. Don't see them come up?
  19. The Attic in Mansfield used to have soap in the ladies toilets (Steve Lydon told me), and it served lager beer!! PFM (posh for Mansfield)
  20. Pricing is a personal thing that we all sometimes sell too cheap or pay too much. About a year ago happily paid £250 for a clean Big Frank. JM auctioned one 6 months ago for (from memory) £340 ish. I was happy to pay £250, couple of marks on flip, but def vg++.
  21. Limits are there to be broken. Each time it only lasts until a must have comes along, and then there's a new limit, just waiting. It's a creeping sickness, but when that shiny original vinyl drug turns up. Wow!
  22. Well better than Soul Boy but that's a low bench mark. Thought it was ok as a film, although I don't share Mark Kermode's enthusiasm completely. I tend to think the effort gets caught a little between a period documentary and a story, doing both well in small parts but not enough throughout.Thought it was all a bit too dour, the strap line "If you were there etc etc" I think if you weren't there this wouldn't sell it to you. Doesn't capture the friendliness, the meeting up, seeing who's there this week, living for next weekend. I thought it started really well and the early youth club scenes were good IMO. The "Wigan" scenes did send a memorable shiver, although there were lots of cringe moments, the things DJs would never say! I do think that given the research available the chronology of the music could have gone for more accuracy. The big "Cover -up" record being the Salvadors . . . . . "You've only got one big record" as he's playing The Originals Suspicion? An enjoyable memory jog good, but not a must see for me. Sheffield Showroom was packed, and some people need to get out more! The person who insisted on clapping to every record played, not in time, or at least not in time the record outside of his/her head . . . . . . thanks, not a bit annoying!
  23. You're spot on about personal perspective, we all have our own truths about the past, particularly around this past! I think most would give more energetic dancers some space out of dance floor etiquette, or perhaps as much not wanting to be too close for comparison, but I don't recognise any description that gives an image of a no-go area of the dance floor. I didn't go the night Granada went, I think quite a few stayed away that night, wanting to turn our back on the media attention. There had been a stage 'vote' previously that clearly rejected allowing cameras in. To be honest I regret that now, wishing I was on some video footage, although given my dancing the cameras would've probably avoided that shot.
  24. On topic just booked for Friday 8.45 at Sheffield Showroom, although taking my partner Anne so feel like I'll spend the rest of the evening explaining! I'll be in the showroom bar before if anyone wants to say hello, (I'd rather you not if you're in fancy dress though, I really am a bit of a soul snob!) Slightly left of topic regarding quote above, agree entirely. Not a good dancer by any measure but I've danced every inch of that floor times over. It makes me wonder if those who state or continue these myths were involved or just went. By went I mean, "got it", not just turned up once to see what the fuss was about after the media rush.
