That Dependables on Vestpocket is 70's Detroit indeed. The Posse record on EJK is likely the first thing Eddie Kendricks ever did, I'm thinking. He's not even the lead on the Come Out And Play side, interestingly. As far as Percy and Them 'Shake It,' it must just be a matter of personal taste. It's obviously very disco-ey, they even use the words 'disco beat' in the song. It's also somewhat lo-fi, in terms of the production values, but the lead and harmony vocals AND musicianship are extremely soulful, and if you have an open minded dance floor, it's like wildfire. Been playing it for 10 years, (to naive yanks) and people always run up and ask what it is.

Very sad news, I can't even tell you how much she was loved in Detroit; her talents truly had the respect of the community here, which is no small feat.
-
This type of thing truly never happens anymore-- but my good friend Breck found one in a thrift shop in Detroit about 2 years ago. The cost? A whopping .25¢ U.S... He saw it, didn't know what it was, drove home, looked it up, almost died, and then ran back and bought it. Now, we get to hear it in Ann Arbor every month. Dangerous tune- induces ovulation.

Excuse me fellows - was Mancha one of the voices in the Professionals?

For whatever it's worth, GET A REAL TECHNICS 1200 before it's too late, if not two or four of them! They will outlast all of us. You would be shocked how much better your entire collection would sound if you used one of these, with the mighty Shure N44-7 cartridge. If you are using Stantons (or Ortophons, which are VERY hard on acetates and styrene) STOP. With the Shure N44-7, records that look like they had slept on the basement floor for 30 years (and ones that actually did!) will still track well and perform decently. I can not do enough to sing the praises of this specific set-up. If you compared the sound of the Shure cartridge with a 1200 to the Ortophon, the Stanton, or even the Shure White Label carts, you would surely never go back. Much louder, much clearer, more defined, more full... even with VG or VG- condition singles. The same records would skip on a Stanton deck with a straight arm. They weigh about 1/2 as much! I'll shut up now, I'm just trying to help. (I don't work for either company, by the way.)
